Excellent podcast about pop culture
This is a great podcast covering pop culture of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. The hosts have great chemistry. The humor can be a bit wacky at times, but the episodes are consistently top quality. The hosts have an excellent knack for identifying what it is that make the movies, show, video games, artists, etc. that they discuss meaningful for the larger culture.

I do NOT care about ads
I’ve been listing to wiz brew from the very first day they put out an episode and started, but recently there’s been something wrong with the feed where the more the show goes on the more the episode will skip back and by the end I just shut it off because it’s unlistenable. I can only think it’s because I skip pass the ads, but not offering a ad free version on patreon made me unsubscribe there a few days ago. I DO NOT CARE about ads. Y’all get that money, but I just wanted to pay directly to not have to listen to them and enjoy an ad free show along w the bonus episodes.

I liked the show but….
I really liked the show and wanted to support their Patreon but I can’t do this anymore. It’s really difficult to listen to a show that’s supposed to celebrate pop culture and nostalgia when the hosts insist on belittling the beliefs of their subjects, and consequently their audience. It’s one thing to say that you don’t share someone’s opinions while remaining respectful towards them and another entirely to go on rants, seemingly every episode, about how ridiculous someone else’s convictions are when they don’t match their own. At best, the show is biased. At its worst, it’s bigoted and ignorant. Jake will agonize over whether or not he’s using the correct pronoun but can’t take the time to educate himself on other's religious/spiritual or political beliefs is indicative of the culture issues in current media: either check the right boxes for protection or be ridiculed for being different.

I’ve been listening to WizBru since 2018, and these two yabbos have introduced me to so much: Junji Ito, Berserk, Neon Genesis Evangelion…the list goes on! Essential Listening
I’ve been listening to Holden and Jake for years and couldn’t imagine each week without a new installment. Excellent pairing with the Page 7 podcast. I recommend the Doritos and Mountain Dew episode as perhaps not the most indicative example, but one of my favorites that I bring up constantly with friends. All hail Yabbos?

Jake and Holden make the good hahas and hehes. Listen to two bearded white men like never before, on radio. I’ve been listening for 4 years and it’s a top tier infotainment podcast about anything and everything nerd. They provide great in depth views about anything they cover and the background of it while also being able to poke fun and not take anything too seriously. Jake young is the truest treasure of the LPN network. Holden’s cool too.

Honestly the best pop-culture podcast out there. Enough variety in topics and episodes to appeal to any- and everybody’s taste(s), their humor is never denigrating or offensive and no matter how sophomoric it may descend, it’s always hilarious and in good fun. Their research is thorough and they always do a great job of explaining not just the genesis of the cultural phenomena, but also their impacts on society and culture writ large. Not just a show for nostalgic millennials with PTSD, they cover enough topics to span generations of content up to the present day. 10/10 would recommend to anyone

My favorite palate cleanser!
I listen to a lot of fairly morbid shows and I come to this podcast for a laidback fun approach to nerd culture. There are plenty of topics I’ve never heard of (I never had video games as a kid, but had plenty of other esoteric interests), but I end up listening to anyway because the way they approach these topics isn’t lofty or condescending. Grateful for these two yabbos!

You get all the nostalgia you could ever want
I really love this podcast. I think the guys do a great job deep diving on our favorite nostalgic memories and pop culture phenomena. It almost feels like I’m a kid listening to my big brother and his friends talking about Nintendo games and sharing jokes. I really love that about the podcast. Anything you can think of they have an episode on too. I’m a big K-pop fan and a Blink, so I was over the moon to see there was even an episode on BlackPink. *bless* Wiz Bru is in my regular pod rotation now and I highly recommend giving them a listen if you haven’t already! My favorite podcast
I’ve listened to every episode of WizBru on the main feed and Patreon feed. I tune into Holden’s Twitch streams and Jake’s PuppetJared streams. I am a fan of all of their content. Great Podcast for Nerd Culture and History
This podcast is a constant in my rotation. I’ve listened to every episode multiple times, and I’m always excited to hear what topic Jake and Holden cover next. I’ve been introduced to many great movies, anime, manga, games, bands, and their creators through the show. I love their sincere appreciation for the art that they cover. Through the difficult and uncertain parts of Art School and my career as a creator, their voices are a consistent reminder that my work matters, and passion and effort show through in the end. Holdens daughter
I like this show a lot. Look forward to every Monday when a new episode is dropped. I’m giving it five stars so hopefully Holdens new born daughter can eat some human food for one. I think she only eats wet dog food like Maggie Simpson when being watched by Abe Simpson. All the best Holdens daughter. Stay strong.

Nerd History for Semi Nerds (too)
Not too much of a nerd, but this show doesn’t ostracize me. Some nerd shows are so in depth in their nerd world that they can’t communicate in a welcome tone with lesser nerds. Very approachable attitudes, experts in bringing all depths of nerd culture to every level of nerd, they got jokes.

Hilarious and Informative
This is a great podcast if you want a short dive into anything geek, from Akira to Xena! The hosts have a background in comedy, have amazing chemistry, and genuinely seem to love working together which gives the show a funny, friendly, casual atmosphere. Profanity is common and there are some weird(hilarious) jokes sprinkled throughout, so just a heads up if you’re sensitive to that. Regarding the structure, they’ll typically speak about their personal relationship to the property, give a background on the creators, detail the development, and end with either the downfall or a look at what’s in the future for the franchise. Since it’s a weekly show they’ll occasionally cover a topic they’re not as familiar with, but they’re really good about getting the general fan’s thoughts and will occasionally have a guest on to give their opinion. All the episodes have been good, so I’d recommend just finding a topic you’re interested in to start, but beware of spoilers. And lastly, never stop bruising and keep on wizzin’!

Great casual listening
Wizard and the Bruiser is a fun time! The hosts excel at offering perspective and context for nerdy media and other pop-culturally relevant franchises. Though the humor doesn’t always land with me, it’s a goofy, fun show with real empathy and respect for the creators of the media that they talk about. I’ve learned several new things while listening, and you can tell Jake and Holden are having a blast.
