This week we are pouring a glass of Rosé while we talk about finding a skill (or sharpening an old one) to help us improve on ourselves. Whatever it is that you want to be good at, why waste a day. Where would you be this time next year if you started today? Think on that as you join me for this episode. Cheers!

What If You Started A Year Ago
Wine & Refine
Hey, y'all, and we are back at it really. Does make me feel so good that I'm bringing you all on this wonderful Journey with me as I have stated before. This is a take what you need. Passed out if it's not what you feel, like you need and please don't feel inclined to take it. It's okay. I'm really excited about this up so. So we're just going to go ahead and jump right into it. We are bringing back a beautiful, sweet Rosie. This one is called be well Rose. I like b e l l Rose, a Survivor and refreshing was a capture summer in a glass to enjoy throughout the year. Strawberry raspberry and Cherry Aromas are framed by Chris and mouthwatering acidity and it comes from the lovely Monterey County in California and y'all is just thinking Rosie.
What are the reason I just love one is for starters if his lovely but stories and all like the behind-the-scenes stuff that goes into making them so I love it is interesting to me but yeah I'm also just something about me that I absolutely is that I absolutely love school. I do like I love the educational part of my K through 12 days. I was not a social butterfly so I can keep all that. I like the actual academic part. I loved it. Some classes somewhere little boring. But let those classes that actually challenged me. No matter what they were, I love those.
But after that, I loved undergrad and going to school or different courses and then I absolutely loved my time getting my Master's Degree not to say that it wasn't difficult but I just loved having professors there to discuss things with and having my classmates to ask you to collab with like for my Master's Degree. I love that more than all the other at school. And I got for one, it was actually frame to the career. I wanted where everything else is going to look up in the air? Like, maybe you'll like this, no Masters. Everything was friends or what it was that I want to do. Like that could be taken with me into my career, and I loved it. Now now I'm graduated. And trust me, I am planning to go back for one more degree and do time not anytime soon, but in due time,
But I love being a lifelong learner. I still read books about my current school counselor. Profession to always just try and be up to date on my skills. I'm currently getting my summer reading list together at all. Love taking professional development courses. Even when I don't have to just because I like having the advantage of all the opportunities presented to me. And I know some of yall who might be like teachers or Educators like you like kitties
Oh, you sweet summer child? Why not? There are some boring ones. I won't even lie but like there's been a lot of good tips and tidbits. I've been able to gather from the Speedy's in from just having that extra skills and also bring him to clap with people. I love that part. I feel like sometimes that's the part where I'm missing in our everyday lives. That we might have got used to our advantage of when we were in school. Like being a lifelong learner, is a topic for today. So I like to learn even more for my career just so I can be the best. So I can be but I also like to research more things that I like to.
To try to be the best me that I can be also like outside of my career. I never want to walk into a room and feel like I'm the smartest person there. I always want to be able to learn from the group that I'm around and stuff, I feel like I'm not learning from my crib. Then I change my environment to fit the growth that I'm looking for now, while I don't want to be the smartest person in the room. I also don't want to walk into a room and feel like I don't belong there because that's imposter syndrome, and we don't have time for that. It took a lot of therapy for me to get past that and we don't need, we don't have the room. Basically, it's about finding that balance somewhere in between being like, the smart not being smart person, the room and imposter syndrome and stuff. So
My cats are my favorite quote.
Was just so happens with Eleanor Roosevelt. But I heard from Princess Diaries and it just it never left me. I love it. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
And every time I am passing, don't have to creep back in. That's the first place I go. No one can make me feel inferior without my consent and like I there has been no one that I have actually given consent to. Now, I must have cautioned the game, some people consent, but we've been changing that and that's not the case anymore, but back to being lifelong learner, I don't have all my learning revolver on my career. For example, I love music, I started off playing the piano when I was in the second grade and when I tell you, I used to have my mom braid, my hair.
I will go get one of her hat tilted to the side a little bit. And like, all I knew was my scales and like, how to play, Mary Had a Little Lamb, which I can still play. Like that's the only thing I can still fly. But in my mind, I was just going through the whole album of the Diary of Alicia Keys. I was like, If I Was Your Woman know in reality, I was like, the first thing you learn how to play on the piano, but yeah, I start off second grade wanted to be the next week's keys, but that didn't stick then I moved to the flute which I played for in years. I like that for a while but then I just I lost my love for it. High school band was just not for me like I hated being told what the play. A my my band director.
He was an awful man. Just we going to go past that, okay, so I don't lie. Play like an instrument. I didn't really do a lot of this. Others have to learning cuz I was so focused on my academic learning, but when I finally graduated, I started making time again, so I picked up my guitar.
It was something I've always wanted to learn how to play and so I've been putting in the effort so I was putting a lot of effort at first to learn it and it was going to be sent. My only issue is that I learned? I didn't learn the fundamentals first. Like, I like to just play song so far. I can play lean on me but I don't know my scales.
And as someone who has played an instrument for over a decade, I definitely know better. I do.
Something else I have been trying to teach myself.
Is a second language. I love languages. I think the way we come up with our speech is just fascinating and so my goal is to be able to be at least bilingual if not more, I started often Japanese for years but then it's not difficult cuz no one speaks a year like 4. I was growing up in Japan and so everyone, I could always use it and then I moved back here and no one speaks it here. So, I just kind of lost it. Then, I start running French, then Spanish. And now, we're currently backed the French. My plan is to stick with friends, so we'll see. Like, Frances on my list of several places to visit.
And so when I do go out there I'm going to be able to flow with it. But yeah plus I just think it's a beautiful language and so we're going to stick with it. We are we are something else I've been working on, learning is finances. I'm not going to lie. Finances and money. Does not interest me like at all. However, but doesn't with me. Is being able to retire comfortably and being able to buy property. I worked in public education, so I don't make millions. But one thing I have learned from watching rich, people are just people with a lot of money that they actually don't work that hard. They just make that money work hard. So, I've been taking everything to learn about investing and making my money work for me because I know that when the time does come, I want to retire. I don't want to have to make a now want to have to work to make ends meet. If I do go back to work, I'm going to get choice. I want everything to be a chore.
That's what I never want to give up. I have so many choices and options and I want to keep it that way.
So I want everything to be a choice. I say all of this to say, I feel like we should always be trying to learn something new. Don't be afraid to be a beginner and something everyone has to start somewhere. And if you find something that you still excites you, this permit, I always feel like the sooner. I start the sooner, I can be an expert on it. So what have you been excited to learn? What have you been putting off? Starting for the longest time, I didn't feel like I had the time with work and school and in her knee. So I'm just getting back into the sketch show up having the time to do other things I love. And so I have been working on doing the things that I love and also doing the things that better me and I felt like that was just something we all need to work on.
Dial break. We have, I thought we'd come to this idea that we
Taking time for ourselves is selfish but we will need to get rid of the idea like that is so like, who like, you know what? I don't know what happened. People have manipulated us into going against our boundaries and we have set boundaries like act. Like we talked about before like you set boundaries and then people get really upset and they can't disrupt or move our boundaries. And so when we take that time off myself, that's a boundary
And people will try and play you like that selfish because it doesn't benefit them. That ain't no problem.
Yeah, taking time for yourself is never selfish, especially when you're taking time to better yourself.
But we have come to the side like you just come to this idea that that's selfish and you just got to work on getting away from that. We need to learn to put our own mask on first before we take care of other people. And after I said that, I heard it not mess like coronavirus Mass, like we on a plane cuz that's where that's where we all going to be this summer. That's where I'm going to be catching flights from flights, never buildings in there. We need to learn stop going into other people cuz we're just pouring out of ourselves in. Like, that's the quickest way to endear ourselves and we got to stop it, but taking time to figure out what your goals are and what you would like to accomplish, whether it be academic, Financial a language, an instrument or whatever it, maybe the owners you and bring you peace, figure out what it is that you would like to learn and start route.
Researching it like education is key in it helps us better ourselves in that in the person that we are. Sorry, that was hard. Wine, Leah, and for one being nice 2021. You are so lucky cuz you can really go on the internet and learned anything.
Thanks the concert creators. You can learn, just about anything finances, followed by someone, on YouTube, research them. See what their credentials are? See what they've done. Their portfolios.
Like we have so many options here. There's really no reason that you can't go out and learn something for the free, really.
And so I'll also add that I'm the person who like really loves vision boards like having things written down, so I can have them and see them everyday.
It is a health and help me stay like motivated. It helps me. Remember, it helps me just it helps the guide me. And so I keep mine either. I keep thinking I bet the bathroom mirror or my refrigerator. I'm actually about to make
What does sticky note picture? Think I'll show you eventually once I finish that but I just like to have my things out present so I can see them and remember to keep working on them pills out of sight, out of mind.
Yeah, just a suggestion. So the overall point of this effort is just education in either. Sharpening an old skill or gaining knowledge and experience in the new one, small or start big, but the key is just to start.
Well y'all that is all I got for you this week. Thank you for listening and hopefully having a glass of wine with me. I will see you next episode and I hope that there's something that y'all can take away from this.
All right. Bye y'all.

The part where he mentions that he wants to be adopted by a more functional family even at 45 yrs really hits home. Really delineates how no matter how old and independent you are, you still need love and support.2 months ago·7 likes·
