Feels like having coffee with a long lost bestie!
I discovered Megan’s podcast this past spring/summer when road-tripping between Illinois and Florida. I was hunting for new wedding pro business podcasts (I’m a photographer) and was drawn in by the title (give me all REAL!) & immediately was hooked. I binged episode after episode on my 2-day drive and arrived home an avid fan! Listening to Megan chat with guests or recount stories felt like grabbing coffee with a long-lost friend. She’s warm, authentic, relatable, and offers sage advice for navigating the world of real weddings and small business ownership - with a dash of humor tossed in (go find the episode where she had to toss a bridesmaid out! I was cringing and laughing right along with her like I was there). It’s a rare gift in podcasting to find someone whose genuine warmth comes through the audio, but Megan’s does. I recommend her podcast to all my friends - this is my go-to listen when I wind down from a busy weekend of weddings. Keep up the great work, Megan - we need a book of your etiquette advice for wedding pros next!!!

Episode 183 is genius!
I wish I had listened to this episode before I stacked 175 chairs, bused tables and took my bride to the floral wholesaler this weekend. No wonder I’m attracting low paying clients, I don’t value myself. Why would they value me!

Love this podcast
I’ve listened to several wedding industry podcasts over the years and have never really found one I loved…. until now. I learn something new every time I listen, and I’m also reminded that I’m not in this alone! I own a ceremony music company, and sometimes it feels like our experiences are not common to other vendors. However, every time I listen, I am reminded that we all experience the same things….just in different ways, and it’s funny and comforting at the same time. Thanks, Megan, for providing valuable and entertaining content. I appreciate that it always feels like time well spent when I finish an episode. I’m glad I’ve only listened to 40 so far, so that I don’t run out of episodes anytime soon!!

Easy listening jam packed with actionable advice!
I’m not usually someone who can just sit down and listen to a podcast. They tend to be background noise for me that is easy to tune out while I focus on something else. But Weddings for Real is different. Whether I’m driving across the metro, mowing the lawn, or just sitting on the couch at home, this podcast is so easy to listen to and every episode has at least one nugget of wisdom that sticks with me and some actionable advice I can use to improve my wedding business today. If you’re the owner of a wedding business, and especially if you’re a planner, you seriously NEED Weddings for Real in your life!

Weddings for Real is the Real Deal
I am not a wedding planner but a wedding dj and this podcast is for any one in the wedding business. Meagan interviews other planners, photographers, and other folks in the business to give us insight of what works and what doesn’t. Occassionally she has her husband, Jason who is a marketing expert give small business digital business gold nuggets that would help any business period. One of my favorite podcasts was Meagan breaks down about what a website should have to help with SEO. So on my to do list, I am creating a FAQ page for my site. Weddings for Real is the Real Deal.

From Genius to Genuine
I just started my own event planning company and felt that I had no industry professional to turn to for advice. After listening to this podcast, I could not believe how helpful it was. My husband listened to it with me a few times as well and he was amazed (by the way my husband has no interest in weddings - he studied marketing and is a sales professional and he even loved it). This podcast is genius. I think it takes courage to create a podcast like this, which goes against everything we’ve been taught - that our competition is the enemy. It sets a precedence that industry professionals will be more successful working together rather than competing with one another. Megan and Jason accomplish this in such a genuine, authenticate, and human way. Its a breath of fresh air that I very much need in times of discouragement or questioning myself while building my own business. The most incredible part, Megan encourages listeners to reach out to her personally. I’ve taken her up on that when faced with a difficult decision and to my amazement she responded with an incredibly thoughtful response! I don’t know how they do it all so successfully and thoughtfully. So long story short - I highly recommend!

This content is not fluff
I first came across Megan when she was a guest on the Power in Purpose podcast; then she was a speaker at WIPA in Atlanta. At the WIPA event I met her and she was so genuine. The content that she gave us was valuable and actionable. Ever since her trip to Atlanta I’ve been binge listening to this podcast, and it’s great. I’ve laughed and cried, said a few amens and have walked away with some jewels. While I’m not technically new to the industry I am new to doing this full-time and the jewels I’m getting from her show is making a pretty fabulous necklace. Don’t sleep on Megan she’s living the community over competition hashtag.

I just stumbled across this podcast, and I’m so glad I did! As a experienced wedding industry entrepreneur, who has been questioning what direction to go in, this show has been so so SO helpful. I love hearing how other veterans in the in the field have dealt with the many different aspects of running a small biz. It’s wonderful to hear such valuable points of view, openly shared, especially so because of the competitive nature of the biz. So thank you guest speakers for your willingness to speak candidly. AND thank you Megan, for being a rockstar interviewer- your thoughtful questions, down to earth nature and sense of humor, make a podcast I keep coming back too. I first heard of the podcast from the owner of Overlook Barn, Katie, about a year ago and had even met Megan at Overlook Barn! I wasn’t sure I could do the whole podcast thing because growing up my brother would force us on vacation to listen to audiobooks and to me that automatically meant nap time. Nuggets of wisdom to go around!
Weddings For Real is my go to podcast each Wednesday when episodes air. Each show is filled with great content and I highly doubt you’ll be disappointed. Megan and her guests discuss relevant topics not only for wedding vendors but anyone who may own a business. I can count on Megan and her guest providing “nuggets” of practical advice or truths. These “nuggets” may be related to work-life balance in an industry that is always “urgent,” maintaining vendor relationships, SEO tips (thanks Jason!!) growing client relationships, self improvement or elevating your social media skills. Megan is so relatable (recording some of her podcast in the closet with Jason! 😂) and even more so approachable as an industry veteran and leader (which is rare in the wedding/events industry).

Working with so many different vendors, clients, navigating the waters of social media and running a business are just a few of the things I have had to figure out (and am still figuring out!). Enjoy as both a listener and guest!
Weddings for Real popped up on my radar sevearl months ago and I had a blast catching up- I especially have enjoyed the recent interviews with industry experts. When I was invited to come on as a guest, I was especially impressed by Megan's thoughtful interview questions- it was clear she took the time to get to know my background. Her listeners are top priority- and it shows! Will continue to be a big fan!

A Must Listen for Wedding Pros
I LOVE this podcast! I was just randomly searching for a wedding business podcast for my road trip this week and stumbled upon this gem. I actually used to live in Raleigh so it was cool getting to here from pros I recognized! I listened to the episode about SEO and it was super helpful. The best part of these podcasts is that they are funny, genuine, and make business topics actually fun to listen too!

Enriching For Non Wedding Businesses, Too
I’m a huge podcast listener. Weddings For Real is high quality production, valuable, insightful business content, and entertaining, too. A lot of the themes covered in the episodes are things that plague a lot of business owners, so there is definitely something for everyone even if you are a non wedding related business! Megan is a great interviewer and her guests are always spot on. I really enjoy Weddings For Real.

Best podcast for business and wedding pros
This is hands down the best podcast for wedding and event pros that’s out there right now. But the material translates to all arenas of small business. Megan is a funny and engaging host, and tackles great topics ranging from lifestyle to crazy clients to nitty gritty digital tips. I look forward to the new episode each week and the nuggets of wisdom I know I’ll walk away with. Thank you for your hard work, Megan and Jason! The wedding industry needs this!

Killing the wedding podcast game
As a wedding professional, I have listened to many of the other event related podcasts out there but Weddings for Real is the first to discuss the true side of this crazy business in an honest and insightful way. It is still very respectful to both clients and vendors while discussing the highs and lows of the business. Megan allows her guests to speak freely without talking over them and respectfully lets them give their perspective. Well done!

Incredibly well produced
Every second spent listening to this podcast feels like time well spent. Can I just say, I LOVE how this podcast jumps right into the conversation with the guest without any of the awkward “Hey _____, thanks for coming on the show!” “Well, thanks for having me!” exchange that almost every interview show has. This is so well put together. Loving the first few episodes I’m listening to.

Best wedding podcast!
Weddings For Real is entertaining, informative, and hilarious. From a vendor perspective I have learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the insight from every guest, and I even love the weekend wine down episodes with her husband Jason! Megan is very pleasant to listen to and a wealth of knowledge. She’s not afraid to ask the tough questions or discuss the sensitive topics and that transparency makes the podcast even more valuable. I highly recommend this podcast to vendors, couples planning their weddings, or anyone simply interested in the wedding industry. Wednesday mornings are now the highlight of my week!

Best educational AND storytelling podcast for wedding vendors!
First heard about this podcast after attending a seminar hosted by Megan & Jason, and this podcast is the first I’ve ever listened to! 😍 Megan has a great way of telling her stories and bringing out the stories of fellow wedding vendors through her interviews. The advice, mistakes, and stories that other vendors have shared have helped us along the way in our own business and gave us insight into what we could be doing differently to stand out in our market. The music in each episode is great and Megan has a pleasant voice to listen to. I love listening and look forward to the podcast each week! 💖 Keep it coming Megan & Jason, we have earned a fan for life!

Talk about addicting - once I picked up the WFR podcast, I just couldn't stop! Fresh and Insightful!
As someone who has been in the industry a while (8 years), it is such a breath of fresh air to finally have someone as fun and seasoned (and HONEST) as Megan speak their mind. I feel a lot of the topics she covers are discussions we all want to have, but are either afraid to or feel “dumb”. I love Megan’s humor, kindness, and insightfulness she brings to each episode. And the diversity of guest speakers is top notch. Highly recommend!

I was introduced to this pod cast at an Ilea meeting. To be honest Megan was the guest speaker. After us talking, I knew I had to get more of the information she was giving. I have 5 pages of notes already just from two episodes. Thank you for the amazing info. Highly recommend if you are serious about learning your business. Community over competition: an example
Being in the wedding industry can be overwhelming and very intimidating. To have a resource like Weddings For Real has been such an amazing tool. From hearing from other vendors in the industry, relating 10000% on the topics, laughing so hard, hearing stories that sound to terrible to be true AND story’s that melt your heart, getting tips that blow your mind, this podcast never gets old. To feel as if you are surrounded by encouragement instead of feeling like someone is plotting your failure, it has been so refreshing to know that we are gravitating towards a community where we are all being uplifted and encouraged to be our best selves. We are all here to succeed and to have that feeling from the top guys and gals in this industry is humbling. You know you’re in the right industry 💛 I can’t thank Megan (and her hubs) enough for all the hard work and attention that has gone into this project. The ripple effect is turning into a rising tide of a community and it is so special and valuable! If you are searching for a warm community of people, this is the perfect place to start.

I’m a local wedding photographer (based in Wilmington but also serve the triangle) AND a bride to be myself. So this is the podcast of my dreams!!! It’s so cool to listen to all of the local vendors and hearing them come together/ support one another. Megan is an awesome interviewer and asks all the right questions but also keeps it light and fun! There is so much knowledge shared for anyone planning their weddings or in the wedding business themselves, BUT it is also enjoyable for literally anyone cause the stories are just straight up awesome! Thank you so much, Megan & Jason, for putting this out into the world—and for making my day each week!!

Enlightening AND Entertaining!
Stumbled across this podcast in the usual way that I find everything online – randomly – due to Ep 27 (Moms and Daughters Planning a Wedding Together in Peace). SO funny (and relateable) that I wound up subscribing and enjoying other episodes (even tho' I'm not an event planner). Start with Ep. 41 and work back
I have a thing for burtal honesty. I love it...and I hate it. Let's be real, no one loves to be told they are doing something wrong or that it's not quite good enough, but it's the best thing you can hear. However, what really cements my love for people is those who are willing to throw themselves on the fire, open up about their failings, own their screw-ups and share how it all happened and how they turned it around. Episode 41 is all that, and when you start there and go back through the previous episodes, you really understand why Megan is a voice to be respected and heard in the wedding industry. If you are getting married, have been married, just got engaged, work in the weddin industry or just love good advice and stories, then you need to listen to this podcast!

So fun!
I'm an OG listener because I'm a fan of podcasts and a big fan of Megan! Plus, I'm a Raleigh local and it's fun to support your buddies. While this podcast generally appeals to wedding folk, I think anyone with a small business can learn from the guests that Megan has on. Maybe even from my episode! If you're wondering, yes, that was a shameless plug to my episode because I've never felt so cool in my life as when I was on the show. I find myself lauging out loud at some point in just about every episode and learning something - yeah, even mine, (I told you I was shameless). If you are in the wedding industry, are a bride or groom to be, are in an upcoming wedding, have ever been to or will be going to a wedding then this podcast is for you!

Entertaining & Helpful
This podcast is both hilarious and insightful. As a recent bride who planned her entire wedding, this podcast was so helpful in learning tips and tricks from the pros and the biggest wedding planning “dos” and “don’ts.” (I especially loved the one with Megan’s mom talking about moms and daughters planning weddings together, so relatable!) Even though my wedding planning process is now over, I still love listening to this podcast for new fun stories and to hear more about the most interesting vendors here in North Carolina! Thanks, Megan & Jason!

Fun conversations with interesting people (and not ALL about weddings!)
I first listened to this podcast because I’m good friends with Erin McCauley of Chestnut and Vine day-of planning (Episode #32), and was excited to listen as I’ve gotten to watch her bring C&V to life. I’m WAY past the wedding phase of my life and so I didn’t think the other episodes would be that interesting to me, but after listening to a few more, I enjoyed the fun (and also funny!) interviews with interesting people from Raleigh and beyond. So now I’m about halfway through all the episodes to-date and I’m loving to listen to them on my morning walk. Keep up the good work!

- 226. Is it you or is it them? How to know when to fire “THAT” clientIf you’ve been in the wedding industry for really any length of time, you’ve probably had a nightmare client or two who sucked the life out of you and left you questioning whether or not you want to be in this crazy industry. I get it, I too have been there and have the t-shirt, the gray hairs, the extra wrinkles and the negative review to show for it. In our industry, we have a ton of pressure to deliver an exceptional experience for each and every client and we sometimes find ourselves working with clients that have unrealistic expectations when it comes to budget, communication, work output, and more. But if you’re coming across those soul-sucking clients too often, it might be time to ask yourself, “Is it them? Or is it me?” Maybe it’s time to make some changes in your business to avoid those calamities. Now if it’s truly them, the next questions become, “How do I know when it’s time to fire “THAT” client? Come join us! - Recently I was a guest on The Women’s Social Club Podcast, a women supporting women community and membership with 15 locations including New York City, Chicago, and Washington DC. Some of you have heard my journey before, but one thing I noticed when listening to this episode is that I have the tendency to keep myself small, and I consider this one of my biggest challenges I’ll continue to tackle day by day - but it’s those voices of support in my life that push me to reach my potential. Now I have the opportunity and privilege to be the support system and cheerleader for so many in our community - and I don’t take that for granted. I believe that there are far too many amazing entrepreneurs out there who show up, serve so many, make a difference, and yet they continue to play it small. I hope this interview inspires you to stop getting in your own way. Great success is waiting on the other side. "I used to call my business my baby - it was my first baby before my actual babies. - 211. Live Interviews: Inside the (Buying) Mind of Engaged CouplesA couple weeks ago, we went to The Merrimon Wynne Winter Wedding Showcase. The Merrimon Wynne is a historic home in downtown Raleigh that’s been converted into a gorgeous wedding venue. Inside the house and in the carriage house outside, engaged couples were walking around looking for the right wedding vendors for their big day. And if they looked like they might be willing to answer some questions about their wedding vendor search, we asked them to come on the show. We asked them questions like: Where are you finding your vendors? What's a turnoff when looking for vendors? How important is social media when researching a vendor? Do you read reviews and how much do they matter Does TikTok matter? What’s been a surprise in the wedding planning process? Do you need to see pricing on the website? Are you unique, or are you swimming in a sea of sameness? If you’re just starting your business, you might not really know what your brand is or where to even begin. If you’ve been at it for a while, you might be so head down in the day-to-day that you don’t pause often enough to reevaluate what your brand actually is, and how that brand is being used to attract (or potentially even repel) your ideal clients. So how do we figure out our brands? Today we're talking to psychology driven brand strategist Kaye Putnam to find our brand archetypes and how we use that to advance our businesses. Take the quiz to discover your innate brand advantage This episode is brought to you by The Planner's Vault, my online membership site for wedding planners who are hungry to grow, ready to hustle, and actively seeking community and education.
