Refreshingly honest
I love Megan’s honesty about parenting and marriage. It’s so refreshing to hear the whole story, rather than the Facebook perfect version of life. Definitely something real people can relate to.

- 142. Toxic messages about mental health in the wellness and personal development spacesToday we're discussing two of the most toxic messages about mental health in the wellness and personal development spaces. These two messages in particular were a HUGE part of the reason it took me so long to get help for my mental health. Be careful who you follow, who you're getting advice from and the beliefs you choose to subscribe to. Make sure you're not getting in your own way when it comes to feeling better. Also understand that medicine is a piece to the puzzle, not the end all be all. So PLEASE take your meds unapologetically and also learn to build habits, routines, and rituals that serve you to. **Disclaimer** This podcast is not a substitute for mental health treatment or any medical treatment. - 139. "Getting in shape sucks" - Is this mindset holding you back? We're one full month into 2023 and many of us are working on our wellness goals. I heard a saying on a podcast that I thought I really connected with. That saying was "being in shape is awesome, but getting in shape sucks". When I heard that I thought, OMG that's so f*cking true! But as I've taken the last month to step up my running game and "get back in shape" I had a change of opinion around that saying and that mindset in general. I hope this reframe benefits you as you continue on your wellness journey. - 138. Finding the line between self-care and self sabotage - it's a journeyI've spent the last few years on a journey of learning about myself and healing from anxiety and depression. Along the way, I've learned the importance of self care and really became protective of my energy. And while that is an amazing thing to be able to do for yourself, I also didn't really push myself out of my comfort zone too much and held myself back from growth along the way. I'm not upset about this because it's all part of the journey! BUT I'm ready to push myself this year in my workouts and in my work. I'm excited to continue to fine tune this line between self care and self sabotage and bring you along for the ride. - 129. Sick of hearing about 'self-care'? Let's REDEFINE what self-care is and what it looks like!"There's no massage in the world that's going to undo a decade of neglect!" If you're sick of hearing things like "make sure you're practicing self-care" it's likely because you're thinking about it all wrong. When I talk about self-care, I'm not talking about the spa days, the bubble baths, the weekend get-aways, etc. I'm talking about the disciplined habits throughout your day and throughout your week that prevent you from getting to that depleted place. Self-care shouldn't be a grand gesture that we treat ourselves to once we feel depleted, it's little acts of self-love and self-discipline that we do consistently to help us from getting to that fully depleted feeling in the first place. If you're struggling with your self-care routine or just don't know where to start, the No BS Mama Self-Care menu simplifies this for you! - 127. Mamas! Use this idea to prioritize your self-care needs no matter what!Let's ditch the all or nothing mentality when it comes to prioritizing our self-care. Today we're talking about using the idea of a minimum baseline to make sure you're getting your needs met no matter what! Because yes, it would be great if we could all have a full hour (or more) of self-care practices every day. But the reality is that's not always possible and some days really are just jam packed. So if we can establish a bare minimum effort, that takes 10-15 minutess max, we make sure that we're able to fill our cup no matter what! If you're struggling with your self-care routine or just don't know where to start, the No BS Mama Self-Care menu simplifies this for you! With over 50 self care ideas in 4 different categories, you're sure to find something that works for you no matter how little time you have. Download the FREE Self-Care Menu HERE ! - Finding Wellness Oct 14 · 25m 125. The reason why therapy is hard as shitI don't know about you but the first time I went to therapy I was SHOCKED to find out I was there to actually work on myself and not the people and things around me that I found stressful. I mean why didn't my therapist see that they were the problem right? The truth is, maybe there are some problematic people, places or things in your life. But at the end of the day this is YOUR life and the only person you have control over is YOU. Looking in that mirror and learning things about myself was hard as shit. No one wants to take a look at their own problematic behaviors, thought patterns, beliefs, etc. It's so much easier to want other people to change instead. But here's the thing. When you change yourself and take better control of your thoughts, emotions and behaviors, everything around you seems to fall in place a little better. It can be a slow, sometimes painful process but one that I believe is so incredibly worth it. When you can better regulate yourself, you can improve the relationships with the people around you...especially your kids. And YOU deserve that. But since I know you aren't motivated to do things for yourself, I'll remind you that your family deserves that too. Did you hear??? I'm writing a f*cking book! - 122. Recognizing that my window of tolerance isn't open quite as far as I'd likeEarlier this summer, my friend Dr. Christine Jehu, taught us about the concept of the window of tolerance. This concept essentially measures our capacity to be able to tolerate the stressors of life. She explains it way better in her interview (see below). Today I'm sharing about my recent realization that my window of tolerance isn't open quite as far as I'd like and what I'm doing about it. Podcast mentioned on today's episode: 94. - 121. It's time to acknowledge how far you've comeWhen we're feeling like shit or feeling stuck it's EASY to feel sorry for ourselves or to wish we were further along than we are right now. But I encourage you to look back instead of looking ahead. In what ways are you different today than you were back then? THAT is something to be proud of, something worth celebrating. I know it doesn't come easy to you to recognize your growth so let this be your reminder.
