Technical problem?
This podcast has been a refreshing mix of interesting content and playful non-toxic silliness for decades. I love it! It is obvious that the three hosts have a genuine enthusiasm for the fascinating science stories they are reporting and also have an underlying fondness and respect for each other. That said, this week’s episode 887 isn’t working on iTunes, I had to enjoy it elsewhere.

Used to be a favorite
The show used to be one of my favorites. A couple times recently, Justin was getting repeatedly cut off, interrupted, and “corrected” so much that it was starting to give me anxiety. I get the point the hosts were trying to make at the time, but they should’ve just let him finish, think it through, and then contribute something thoughtful afterward if they still had anything to say. As a listener, it seemed like they were trying to argue with a point he hadn’t even made yet. On top of that, nothing they said seemed to correct anything Justin was saying, so it all just came across as very rude and condescending. If that kind of thing happens again, I don’t think I can listen in anymore.

Long time listener
Wow, I just rediscovered this podcast. I used to listen a long time ago. And it’s nice to hear that it’s basically the same. Good show. But could be better. My advice, 20% less Justin (volume and speaking) 10% more Blair, and 10% more objectivity. IMHO. Then this would be a great show. No offense Justin, love you, sure we’d get along, but thinking about the over all quality of the show

Is this for real?
Seems that these people are smoking something, they’re unorganized, not prepared, they sound like high school kids! What a horrible podcast compare to TWIV and TWIM ;( I don’t believe it.

Can’t stand the hosts
The hosts grate on me like no other podcast does. The content that they are discussing is quite interesting, but the delivery of that content takes too long with stupid jokes and fake excitement. So many better science podcasts out there. Unsubscribe.

Horrible delivery
I’ve tried this podcasts quite a few times because the content is interesting. Today was my last try, now unsubscribing. I just can’t get past the HORRIBLE delivery. The fake exuberance, high pitched gleeful voices and the tone as if talking to a 3 year old is just intolerable.

Sooo Science you say...
Wow, the continuous sprial into politically correct "Science" is really disappointing to watch... I use to love this show for bringing intersting facts and new science into my life.. For far to long I've watched it embrace and parrot the views of politics without ever really looking into the science they use to peddle their views. No more I say!!!! I'm out....

Unmedicated ADHD
Justin really drags down the shows by not preparing and presenting news he hasn’t looked into beforehand, talking over the other hosts to ask pointless questions or give quips.

Excellent “Out of the Litterbox” Thinking Show
Although the weekly podcast is very long (2+ hours), it is a complete coverage on various scientific fields. I also appreciate their opinions on the scientific studies or topic, even if I do not agree, since such discussions make me think in 360-degree fashion. Thank you for an interesting and challenging show (in a good way) :)

Wit, informative, awesome show!
I've been listening Kirsten and Justin since late 2006 and pretty much haven't missed a single show. They are one of mine source to get sciency goodness-:) on a weekly basis and I love to be able to contribute and share science news I find with other listeners. Keep up guys, you've been doing AWESOME job!! PS. To MAGA people who believe the hosts are political and not fair to Trump - he is a traitor and none of his actions as president were to build a better America. He was squeezed to his presidency with a good chuck of Russian help to dismantle America. I’ glad it’s history by now.

Support
I used to be able to agree and support the science of this channel. But some of the things that are agreed with on this show are very unscientific. The political opinions expressed on this channel are not science and seem to ignore the typical scientific path of finding evidence to support these opinions. Hating trump isn’t scientific. Blindly hating everything he does is not scientific. Please look up the bills he has passed. Do some real research then form your opinion. The opinions expressed here are the opinions of CNN. Not science. Still 5 stars. Great show . Very well made. Minus political opinions.

Lost Their Way
Sadly, this “science” podcast has turned into a political bully pulpit and they’ve lost their way. I miss the early days of true science reporting. After submitting this review, I’m deleting this podcast stream from my library. Political pandering is intolerable, liberal or conservative.

So annoying
I’ve plowed through four episodes - I really am interested in the subjects they discuss. But while I am trying to hear the actual science parts, the discussions is always interrupted by the male voice spewing his inane chatter that adds nothing. He’s so loud and obnoxious - he’s usually wrong. Skip this series, folks. Try the other series much better: TWIP, TWIM.

Skip it
Two hours is entirely too long for a podcast. Episode length should ideally be between 30-60 minutes. The man’s voice is super annoying and the production is terrible. They sound like they’re talking from inside a can. Also, the structure is loose, rambling, and contains way too many things. It’s 2019, y’all. There’s way more podcasts out there. If I subscribe, I am giving you over 150 hours of my time a year. That’s nearly a working month. Please edit your show and tighten things up to be more respectful of your listeners’ time.

Not worth the time
I wanted to be able to like this as a weekly review of things I may have missed, but the terrible audio quality makes it very hard to listen to for extended time. The host that sounds like he’s intoxicated all the time is tremendously annoying. They seem to like to pound on similar topics every week, and excessive social/political commentary in a “science” program.

Same old, same old
Occasionally produces new science. Global Warming is this podcast’s sermon. Every week you get another sermon on global warming. They preach about those who do not accept the scientific method of proving theories. The people that look for a science podcast accept the scientific method. They are not delivering hard new science.

The original science podcast
These guys were podcasting before podcasting was cool, and haven’t missed a beat! They bring an hour+ of sciency goodness every week. They sometimes have interviews with special guests and respond to their fans (TWIS minions). Their three person team has debate, brings different perspectives, and keeps it real.

The male cohost is TERRIBLE.
One, 2 hours is too much for a weekly podcast. I don’t listen as often as I’d like because of this. 90 minutes would be much easier to grasp but 60 would be ideal. But what TRULY takes the stars off is the dude. Holy mother of all things science is he terrible. His voice is grating, he mansplains and over talks the female cohosts, he thinks he’s hilarious and you can sense the irritation in the other hosts voices. Can him and I’d give this another star for sure. He is just AWFUL. 🤢 it’s like 2 hours of drunk uncle from SNL.

Ever heard of ETHICS?
I can’t believe that you joke about monkeys being tested for stress. Are you kidding me? We throw them in a cage, deny them everything natural to their lives, and then we INCREASE their stress levels? And you morons are laughing and joking about it? The Nazies did some great science and had no problem separating ethics from the work that they did, too. You are following in their footsteps. Please mature and grow up and come to the realization that when you are dealing with living things, there is an ethical cost to the science.

Very good science podcast
Most reviews are 12 years old? Wow! Here is a fresh one. This is a very good and entertaining podcast, thanks to Dr. Kirsten "Kiki" Sanford, whom I have been following since her early days doing food science shows in her white lab coat and her nerdy glasses. Her team adds much and in a very positive way to the topics that are presented every week. Their interviews with interesting researchers and educators are very good, also. I listen to the podcast on my phone, a portion at a time, not the whole hour and a half, but they also have a YouTube channel. Keep it up!

Love it, educating and informative
Keeps me up to date and Kirsten keeps the goofing around at just the right level. Makes me smile while I learn at not too technical level about the latest. If I could change anything, it would be to tighten up the guest interviews, tighter interviewing to help the guest give the goods and leave more time for headlines and comments from the hosts.

I really tried. Justin needs to go!
I tried so hard to enjoy this podcast. I am an avid science fan and podcast listener who donated generously to her favorite projects, but this podcast is a hot mess. Justin is unbearably obnoxious. He sounds drunk constantly, interrupts the female hosts often, and has no idea how to talk clearly. The long silences in the show, the sloppy editing, it's all way too unprofessional. Also, hearing the female hosts allow this ignoramus constantly interrupt them with their nervous giggles is too much for me. Please, this show has potential. Get rid of Justin and have Blair try to talk like a grown up, please.

TWIS Rocks
Having listened to this podcast from the beginning I appreciate very much the enthusiasm this group puts into each presentation. Basic knowledge of science is a vital underpinning of any progressive society. Science sadly is very much under appreciated in our society. The podcast has become more refined over the years but retains thankfully Justin’s quirky commentary that adds loving levity and lubricity to the flow of factoids. Blair blends very informative insights and adds an animal twist. Dr. Kiki has provided the momentum, perseverance and environment for accretion of knowledge into our social fabric. Science is a dynamically updated system of observation and application. This Podcast helps demystify and present to the layperson or science junky one of the most important subjects of our time. This group lovingly dedicates creative energy to enrich humanity and it’s very much appreciated!

On behalf of me AND my high school science kids (who love the random tidbits I get from this show), THANK YOU! This show is entertaining and informative. This show not only tells you about the newest advances in science, but there is a level of explanation in each "story" that is digestible and exciting. Perhaps everything in science is fun for me, but they way in which the team gets into the stories really brings them to life for me. I often find myself using what I've learned from TWIS to directly relate to something I'm teaching in the classroom! (I team chem, physics, bio, and environmental science) While telling stories, I like how the team will continue to say things like "I wonder if the researchers thought about XYZ", "the next step for me would be to look into ABC", or "the sample size was X so we have to keep in mind blank blank blank". I really appreciate the team keeping the stories into perspective like that. Additionally, I love the relationship between the hosts! You guys have great dynamics.

Science By Game Show Hosts
I listened to the first 30 minutes of the podcast hoping the sound effects made between the two women, would stop after they introduced headlines (e.g., "CRISPR alert!", "CRISPR alert!", "Bing!", "Bing!", "CRISPR alert!", "Bing!" (the " Bing!", "Bing!"s sounded more like something kids do at Star Wars movies). It did not. ne of them did her best to read with a sexy voice, but would end up tongue tired. The thing is, it was great when she simply read things normally because there was more substance here on one topic than on another top science podcast. The guy, for his part, tried to keep pace with the women -- reading about a marine science study like a cross between a game show host and cartoon character. It didn't work. He got so tongue tied that he finally couldn't even articulate acronyms. Maybe this is geared more towards kids or people who don't fancy themselves as being particularly interested in science, but beneath the antics the substance was very good. That's why I suffered through 30 minutes of it. If people affiliated with the podcast were to read this, I hope they'd consider that it's possible to do a great science podcast with humor rather than antics.

Super High Energy and generally good results
I really enjoy the show. The team is always extremely energetic and in some way energizes me when I listen. The Highlight Of My Week
I've been listening to TWIS for several years now. It's the one constant in my life. I've never studied science but I've always been interested in science. Thanks to Dr. Kiki, Justin and Blair my knowledge and appreciation of this world and the universe has grown exponentially. I'm astounded at Dr. Kiki's vast knowledge in almost every field of science. I enjoy Justin's banter and Blair is the perfect addition to the team with Blair's Animal Corner. Not only are they great hosts, the TWIS team are very accessible to their fans or as we prefer to say - TWIS Minions, some of these minions have become great friends of mine. TWIS is fun, it's educational and the hosts are stellar. They have over 500 shows under their belt which is an incredible achievement considering that they give their time and energy to this weekly show for free. Shows you how passionate they are about the world of science. Here's hoping for another 500 shows.

Fun science podcast after a day of physics...
I hear some of you out there gnashing your teeth about the "liteness" of this podcast, but I find this to be a fun listen with a good deal of insight into what's happening in the world of science, a real antidote to physics professors who complain that "this is a physics class, not a math/engineering/circuits/memorization etc., etc., etc. class." Lighten up and enjoy science, its the REAL thing!

Dr KiKI and Jackhole
Dr Kiki is awesome. Somehow someone believes that she needs some sort of idiotic sidekick to make the show work. If I have to hear one more idiotic “disclaimer disclaimer disclaimer” rant I will… wait I don’t have to listen to it. I had this joke that I went to a podcast about climate change and all they talked about was science news. Get it… the opposite of… oh great now I’m a jackhole. No really the science is cool, Dr. Kiki is awesome but even my daughters hate the jackhole that keeps talking that works with her. When he comes on and starts ranting about global warming again and again and again we all start laughing. Not that we think global warming is wrong it’s just we have to sit through it again. Dr Kiki keep at it… Drop that Jackhole

Great Podcast: One favor to ask though
Love TWIS! Actual science talk with actual scientists having fun with it. So that's good. BUT I would be so grateful if they could adjust the volume levels of their music. I'll be running along listening to their pleasant banter when I'm nearly knocked off my feet and my ears start spraying blood like shamu with a blow-hole infection as the theme song kicks in at a level that seems ten times louder than the talk segments. So, in conclusion: LOVE TWIS, but may literally not be able to hear it much longer if the volume levels can't be fixed.

DISCLAIMER! DISCLAIMER! DISCLAIMER! That has to be the most charmless catch-phrase in history. Who, one wonders, enjoys being shouted at by a podcast? Also, I haven't heard where other podcasts have to start out with a disclaimer, much less one bellowed out by the host. My interest in listening ends with the yelling.

Just TOO Unprofessional
I don't know why this podcast needs the "wisecracking" Justin aboard. He's often given the task of reporting, but doesn't know how to pronounce the things he reports on. His ramblings are often so convoluted, it's l painful to hear. All the more frustrating when the topic would otherwise be interesting. Let the Doctor take the helm, and wish Justin good luck in his Improv career (he'll need it).

Life Changer
I still remember the first time I heard this podcast 5 years ago on the episode where Justin did his famous DISCLAIMER! about the equivalence of the NASA budget to how many coins you can stack to the moon and the blasting intro from High School Robot. I was just blown away that night sitting on a bus stop, waiting for a bus that comes only every two hours. I became a fan after that. I was a 27 year old, low-waged data-entry clerk without a college education and I've been unsure of what to do with my life over the past decade. It's not until I listened to science podcasts like TWIS and TWIV that I began to reevaluate what I want in life. Your podcasts jump started me into going back to college to get an Associate in Arts for Teaching Secondary (Biology) for High School or Middle School. Your engaging and insightful conversations gave me something worthwhile to strive for where otherwise I was a little lost. Thank your Dr.Kiki and Justin for giving me a path that I can believe in and be proud of in life. Will continue to listen down here in Miami. -Gerald

Very informative!
This week in science is a great show to listen to if you are a busy professional or student and don't have time to do research on your own. Like many, I strive to learn as much as I can about science and the latest trends in technology. I am a professional software engineer, father, and husband, so my time is very limited. Listening to this show on my way to work helps keep me in the loop and inspires further thinking in areas I am interested in. I enjoy both of the hosts and their personalities. For those of you who don't care for the hosts; remember, it's all in your head :) Keep up the great work Justin and Dr. K.

Hey Amy Adams!
Absolutely the best science podcast out there! Love the stories and studies Justin and Kiki find and whenever i get a hold of peoples iphones i download the latest show as an informative bit of science candy for them then text them later on saying check your podcasts. Hehe. Yummm. NOW...for Amy...The show is a lighthearted and yes informative compilation of the science stories and happenings we all don't have the time to go accumulate on our own. Its sometimes humorous take on the science-ee goodness is exactly what many look for in their much needed and sometimes boring information(see the success of the daily show). That being said If you can't get a laugh out of people OBVIOUSLY making a joke of their IQ maybe you should stick to a more serious science podcast that doesn't include what scientists and those with high IQs call sarcasm. And BY THE WAY... you just used the reviews to tell everyone reading them you have a high IQ. A little...Uhm hypocritical wouldn't you say? Especially right within the same sentence. Jeez. If it offended your modest core, maybe you shouldn't have also done it. Ugh. Grrrr. Lol -minionarmedguard#001

Hosts need better focus
Great idea for a show, but horrible execution. There seems to be a complete lack of structure to the show which causes it to carry on directionless at a painful pace. Often the hosts read an article live seemingly for the first time...it's insulting if your someone who cares about your time. Apply structure like other twit network shows or just cancel this show.

Science!
This show is both entertaining and informative. I love the entusiasm that Dr. Kiki and Justin (and recent guest co-hosts) talk about the weekly science stories. It doesn't talk down but is not so high-minded that everyone can't enjoy the discussion.

I love this podcast. Dr. Kirsten, Justin and Alley (sp?) are fun to listen to. Justin is full of energy and corny jokes, but a great guy. Dr. Kirsten does a great job at explaning science in laymens terms. I appreciate their time and effort for this podcast. Keep up the wonderful work.

I love science and thought this would be a great Podcast to add to my collection, the science is fun and Kirsten and Justin are entertaining. but I listen to it for science not politics, I do not need or want to know what thier politcal view points are. Allie needs help
I have been a loyal listener to twis for years. I enjoy the wide range of subjects covered, and the clever banter. I appreciate Justin and Kirsten bringing Allie (sp?) on board, but she needs some tutoring on her delivery. I cringe at her using 'um' every other word and making every sentence sound like a question. Like, um, a, like, um, valley girl? I can't listen to her segments, even if they are interesting, because her delivery is so distracting. Come on, Justin and Kirsten, work with her.

Even better than the Dr. Kiki's Science Hour
I started listening to Dr. Kiki when she arrived on the TWiT network doing her Science Hour. I enjoyed that, but it was a little too dry for my tastes. Then she started with TWiS on TWiT and I was hooked. I don't really enjoy serious podcasts for the most part...so I can take her Science Hour in small doses. TWiS on the other hand...I can't get enough of...I watch it live every week on TWiT and I highly recommend it. If you want a science podcast with a sense of humor, this is definitely the podcast for you!

Science and Education.
This show is entertaining and I find it a good source to get the latest in science news. Having an intern on the show is awesome and it shows that TWIS is very conscience about our young peoples education. This is our up and coming future citizens and their on going education. I work with interns all the time and I believe internships are invaluable. It gives young people practical experience in the real world. Keep up the good work TWIS!

Used to be amazing
This was the podcast that I couldn't get enough of. Even through Justin's interruptions, the show was great. However, the new intern makes the show un-listenable. She speaks in the tone of a question for everything. 2 plus 2 equals 4? The sun rises in the east? You get the idea. Lose the intern as fast as you can. Her annoying question-toned speech will tempt you to bang your head into a wall.

Dissapointed
Too slow pace, with lots of joking around. Justin tries to spark thinking process from the listeners by intentionally throwing out counterintuive ideas and jokes, which often confuses listeners. Also, the topics ain't really the top science discoveries of the week. I become increasingly dissapointed after listening to 10 episode. Not worth one full hour of time for each episode.

What happened?
I started listening to TWIS two years ago but it has steadily gone down hill. when i first discovered it i was thrilled! but i'm sorry to say that justin's opinions have steadily taken over the show. Dr.K is great when she isn't competing with justin's mouth. if anyone wants to hear what a gem this show used to be listen to the archives pre-justin. if i had to pick a point in time where it started to slide i would have to say that it was the run-up to the last election since then....well.....

Informative and Interesting
This is a great show. A lot of Science Podcasts are dry and boring. Kirsten and Justin mix things up and bring their personalities into the show. After a few podcasts, you start to learn their ways and the podcast just becomes more interesting. I value the science news I hear from them. I enjoy Justin's sarcasm and I think I am secretly in love with Kiki. (Not really, but I do enjoy her talents and humor.)

Me too -- I really wanted to like this 'cast
The female main host is confident and well-informed, and if she worked solo this could be one of the best podcasts around. But the male co-host puts on an unrelenting goofy sarky manner, and it soon goes beyond the point I can willingly subject myself to.

Great balance
This show strikes an excellent balance between making science fun and accessible but also covering serious topics of scientific importance. Interested in science, not amature comedians.
Very little information spreaded over too much time. Instead of a constant flow of facts, opinions and other solid data, much time is spent on jokes wannabe's by 2 obviously knowledgable people that try too hard to be funny. Quite annoying. Too bad as topics are of great interest.

I was a fan, but...
I was a consistent listener to TWIS for about two years. What I noticed in that time is that, while Kirsten is great at dissecting the news stories, Justin's commentary became more and more rambling over time, to the point that I found myself yelling at the car stereo, "Shut up, Justin!" It's gotten to the point where "annoying" just doesn't cover it. I like humor. I even like dry, snarky, humor. What TWIS passes off as humor is not only juvenile, but often quite misleading. Justin's rants, which apparently he finds amusing, often broke off on a tangent which turns out to be totally anti-science; that is, his attempt at humor often skews the story so much that a novice listener would be misled into thinking the OPPOSITE of what the story really entails. In an age when anti-science is so prevalent in the media, we don't need a supposedly pro-science podcast to be doling out anti-science rhetoric. That is, unfortunately, what TWIS too often does, despite its best intentions.

Absolutely love it!!!
It’s past time I wrote a good review for these guys. While there may be science podcasts out there that manage to cram in more science facts in their episodes then these guys do this podcast is rapidly becoming my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE podcast. The hosts are upbeat, enthusiastic, humorous, and most importantly of all clearly love science. As a college student studying biology I find that listening to them, especially after spending a day listening to monotone professors, constantly reminds me of why I love science so much. The podcast allows someone like me to take a moment and enjoy learning a thing or two in between study breaks but I know other people who aren’t even science majors or working in science related fields who enjoy listening to it as well. I find it’s the perfect thing to keep my brain active while doing mundane chores or while driving. Please keep up the amazing work guys!

Dr. Sanford has a real talent and I truly hope she finds another vehicle to broadcast, but this show is 80% mindless filler, actively celebrated by the male 'sidekick'. There is such an endless parade of idiotic 'jokes' and stream of consciousness drivel coming out of his mouth that one's tolerance is severely tested. Taken together with the production, which subjects us to mediocre college radio musical bridges, and an increasing number of callers who follow the male host's lead down the hole of banality, has led me to write my first review. I really tried to like this show and subscribed and listened for some time, but I found myself increasingly fast-forwarding thru much of the show. I've had enough of this torture, fortunately there are increasingly better options out there - especially out of Britain.

The best weekly science podcast around
This show isn't really a podcast it's a radio show done at the UC Davis radio show. That said, i've been listening to the podcast version for a few years and it hasn't gotten old. In a way Justin and Kirsten seems like old friends or something. Dr. Kirsten Sanford has a PhD in Neurophysiology, and is great at communicating science to a mass audience, and Justin plays a great foil and keeps things interesting. And while he's not the PhD, you can quickly tell that he's a very quick and critical thinker. The two hosts talk about current science news and research, and they frequently feature fascinating guests doing research on the cutting edge of science. All in all a very interesting and listenable show and you can easily keep up with the newest and latest findings in the world of science.

Liked it at first, then soured
At first I liked it but then it soured. The banter wore on me after a while. It sounds like they are trying to be too hip. A growing problem was that political/social views kept creeping in more and more. At first Kiki did a good job of trying to maintain balance but then stopped trying. Her slip of "we.." when discussing Democratic Party policy was when they stopped trying to be balanced. The "Weird from Washington" segment was interesting at first but got more and more biased and featured politics more than science. And reached a cresendo at election time. I found it interesting that their person for that segment ended up taking a job in the Obama administration. So, in summary, what started out as new and interesting got stale, and unbalanced. I do check back from time to time to see if they are going to interview anybody interesting, but then I just fast forward to the interview and skip everything else. I do like the music though.

Justin Redeemed
I really can't understand what the reviewers are talking about. I have listened to all of the TWIS podcasts, and Justin is a brilliant mind--and not even classically science trained! As a biology prof, I can tell when someone gets it. Unfortunately, his humorous insights are totally missed and cut off by Kirsten. I appreciate Kirsten's effort on this podcast, but it seems as though she really doesn't understand the science issues they discuss on TWIS. Listen to her explanations of sci in the news, and tell me if it makes sense to you?? She tries to act interested in the topics, but it really comes across as just cheerleader voice inflections. Justin tries to make it clear and funny and insightful, but Kirsten cuts him off or disregards his insights. She puts him down in a disrespectful way, because she cannot speak to his points at a deep enough level; and he has to apologize to smooth over the conversation. As a UC Davis Grad, I really want this podcast to work. I think Kirsten is getting better, but want to point out that she needs to rely more on her brain, and less on her Ph.D and gender/looks. That being said, they are both intelligent and I want them to continue to improve and keep making the podcast!

It would be nice if they didn't start off by screaming "DISCLAIMER!!!" several times at top volume, VERY ANNOYING as most of us have earbuds in and that can prove painful. Dr. Sanford is good enough but her brain-dead foil/cohost could be a bit less annoying. If they would focus more on science and less on geek music I believe the `cast would be a lot more interesting.

Tried, but did not keep
This hour long, regular feed podcast was suggested to me by some of my chemistry students. I did enjoy it, but it did not make my cut to listen to on a regular basis. I tried listening several years ago, so it could have changed, but based on listening to other podcasts for the same duration, it is unlikely. The best I can say is, give it a try. Certainly there are worse science and tech podcasts out there, but there are also better.

Dr. Sanford is the brainy and beautiful face of science in America for the 21st century. I've seen her TV & Youtube appearances, and she can bring science to the layman like no other. This show could be great but...
I absolutely cannot stand Justin! The show could be a fun and informative look at science- it's a great concept. However, Justin is so incredibly annoying that it ruins the show. I still listen to it, but I don't know how long I can continue. His whiny voice and hyperactive babble makes me want to drive to their studio and hit him with a rolled up newspaper. good science chat spoiled by doofus co-host
I gave this show a fair try, having listened weekly for about 3 months. In the end I dropped it for 2 related reasons: (1) the co-host Justin is just too annoying to tolerate, and (2) the show is too light on science. If you can get through the excessively long morning zoo-style opening, Dr. Kirsten Stanford does cover interesting science stories with a good balance of facts and explanation. Unfortunately, though, every single story is interrupted by the unfunny commentary of doofus sidekick, Justin. I do have a sense of humor, and I do enjoy a bit of banter among hosts, but Justin's personality is just too annoying to put up with. Instead of acting as a co-host of a science program, he behaves as if he's the sole host of an unfunny comedy program. To me, his presence on the show is like that of the only drunken fratboy at a party full of fun, yet sober, people--not funny; just annoying. The tipping point for me was TWIS dated September 16, 2008. It took almost 9 minutes to get to the first story. I'm not kidding! They wasted nearly 15% of the hour-long show on mindless chatter, most of it being Justin ego-babble. It especially annoys me because at the end of every show Dr. Kirsten always complains about running out of time to cover more stories. If you want real science, do not subscribe. If you appreciate funny humor, also do not subscribe.

I'm with Sottovoce - I wanted to love this.
The amount of fluff is enormous. I wanted to love this podcast, but as a biologist, I was horrified at the complete lack of science in this podcast. They simply read off the week's articles, without adding anything new. I suppose it's supposed to be a review, but if that's all it is, I don't see why I should listen to this podcast instead of reading the week's news myself. It would save time. Kirsten seems like she could be good, but she's been confined (possibly by choice, possibly not) to the annoying female sidekick. I want science! I want intelligence!

Smokin' hot science babe Dr. Kirsten Sanford sounds wonderfully sexy here, but she's shackled with dullard noisemaker "Justin" who struggles with his own mouth noises and his Kasey Kasem sensibilities that don't lend credibility to these topics. Science Lite - Extremely Lite (and far too giggly)
This podcast is like USA Today for science or an ever lighter version of Discover Magazine. As I listen to the news items I CRAVE for more details, but they are always lacking. Every other sentence will have you asking additional questions in your mind... which are never answered by the hosts. They will blurt out generalities without the necessary references. Think of this show as science for your mom. Science for somebody who reads the headlines and no further. Science for somebody who will simply accept information without feeling a need to dig deeper in order to understand the complexities and the real story behind the headline. If that's you, then have fun!

A liberal dose of science, but the boy-toy needs to go.
I listened to the July 17 broadcast. Kirsten provides the brainpower, while Justin provides the color commentary. I think I first knew I was in trouble when in a story about automated drones developed for the military, Justin flatly states, "I am total against weapon systems of all kinds". Really...? In the real world where the rest of us live there is good and evil, honor and tyranny. The weapon itself has no moral value, but instead we should judge how the weapon is used. As hyperbolic illustration I could say Justin is against the use of shotguns to protect an African orphanage against marauding hyenas.... Justin must hate those orphans.... :-) Moving on to the Washington report from the US capitol. The hosts and their guest all seemed to rue new government rules that call for a cost benefit analysis of new research initiatives. I guess if all weapon systems are bad, then it is not much of a leap to all research initiatives should be funded. I can however understand that *who* does the analysis could input political or ideological influence that we do not want in those decisions, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt there. But moving on they were equally unhappy with a new rule that requires determination of whether the project being proposed is already being served by private industry. I guess the believe that a search engine funded and implemented by the U.S. government would have served us better than Google. Finally, they complained that all of these new rules are another example of government meddling with Scientific inquiry. There was no apparent awareness of the irony that their complaint of government interference was based on the fact that the government was choosing to NOT get involved in certain projects. Or in other words, "What right have you Mr, Government to take away *our* funding?" In the end, although I concentrated on the political inanity, I just was not sufficiently entertained or informed by this show, so I think I'll pass in the future. Two stars for good production quality and factual content in the actual reporting.

Not to be snobby here, but is nice to see this is the ONLY place I can go from Sattelite Radio to the Internet for great trustworthy Scientific Content about the amazing world around us. Yes Justin is afraid of Robots and Kristen is a Scientific Beauty with Intelligence to match, the two make you laugh, make you cry. A truly entertaining show ! Kelly Ft. Lauderdale, FL

doesn't kick much of anything
These guys like the sound of their own voices waay to much. This seems more about them chattering to fill air time than making science cool (which is a worthy goal). Waiting for any real content gets frustrating. "The Naked Scientists" from BCC is light-hearted and a much better podcast or shows like 60-Second Science will actually tell you something in a reasonable amount of time.

Too Much Opinion, Try 60-sec Science or Brainfood
Science is built on facts so you would assume a science podcast (especially a podcast this long) would be full of interesting discussions, news stories, facts etc. This show is way too long and the guy co-hosting tries too hard to be funny. Try 60-second science or Brainfood if your looking for great news and hosts that don't speak as if they've just graduated from high school.

Not to miss, fun and interesting conversation
Sure, you could probably pack more science and less fun, but it's the balance that makes this podcast rock. You learn interessting things presented in a conversation, not a lecture. The hosts simply make it fun to talk science.

a bit liberal...
I found the news portion entertaining at first, the interviews were ok. But after the third program, I got a little tired of the slight inserting of liberal leaning personal views in my science shows. If it isn't a law, don't present it as one. They seemed to try to insert non scientific views in between the lines of actual science. Annoying if you do your research and see much evidence that supports a less liberal point of view.

one of my favorites
Although I listen to a lot of the science podcasts, TWIS is the only one I try to listen the day it comes out. Every episode is entertaining and educational. I appreciate that my entire family can listen, so I don't have to wait until my kids aren't around.

Not in the same class as TWiM or TWiT
I tried this podcast but like some others here I found the discussion to be very superficial. Justin is not very useful on this podcast and really represents some sort of cliched "california ditz" to act as a sad sort of comic relief. It is irritatingly like a morning radio show...gah! His intellectual depth was truly revealed in his pathetic mis-understanding of the problems of population growth and the impact on the global ecosystem. Kirsten has some potential but comes across as a very smart person who is deliberately suppressing her actual intellect in order to be accepted by a bunch of people at a party who never got past high school. There are some bright spots but the dilution factor is far too high to warrant this as a "must hear"

Science fun and you learn too!
TWIS, that is "This Week in Science", is a delightful and fun way to kickass in a scientific fashion! And no "Disclaimer, Disclaimer" about that. (Jason's disclaimers are a really fun part of the show!) The science news is always one of my best laughing sessions of the week, and the interviews are fascinating. It is always entertaining to hear from the person behind a book.

As good as anything on NPR, maybe better!
Kirsten and Justin have a knack for making science seem as cool, relavant and interesting (not to mention entertaining). A lot of science news falls through the cracks because the mainstream media doesn't know how to present it or even understand it, which is a shame because it is amazing stuff that is going to shape our lives for years to come. These two find those stories and put them in a context that anyone with more than two neurons to rub together can get and even give the totally clueless a framework to hang the ideas with. Smart and fun, I only hope that somebody in national public radio notices these two and shows them off to the wider world.

#1 Science Popdcast
Kirsten and Justin do a fabulous job summarizing a wide variety of current science news and research. But what sets this podcast apart from the rest are the interviews. Rarely is a guest boring and the insights one gets from listening to the folks actually doing the work are mind-expanding.

Lots of talk, Little science
The first 15 minutes of this podcast was devoted to 2 issues: (1) hey, know one ever told me that Kuaai was so great (Justine); (2) blind chauvinism is responsible for the lack of women in science. If you enjoy listening to radio talk shows, listen to this podcast. If you want an intelligent discussion of scientific issues, listen to Brain Food, or Scientific American's Science Talk.

I sooooo look forward to this show every week!
Every week this show is new and so full of actual content that I have to go "look things up" afterwards. The show's only an hour long, so it's packed with info and ideas to investigate. And it's fun--no monotone lectures on atomic models here! I enjoy hearing the articles getting balled up and tossed (presumably at the trash?) when they're frustrating....(don't worry--it'll be ok...) The show also alerts the listener to specific books and articles on a wide variety of science topics. More stuff to look up, yay! This shoW stImulateS the curiosity of the science-minded....especially those of us who didn't study science for our careers, yet maintain an avid fascination with the natural world around us. It also provides info on current technology that is generated by scientific study. Through this podcast I learn a little bit each week about what makes the world tick. I like that very much. I offer a sincere "thank you" to Kirsten and Justin. We're starvin' for more science out here, TWIS style!!

I soooo wanted to enjoy this podcast
I tried this podcast out a few months ago and couldn't stand slogging through all of the fluff to get to the actual content. I gave a couple more episodes a chance today, and I just couldn't do it. I'm not looking for a podcast of a sixty-year-old, terminally-republican, genetically-constipated guy reading abstracts from journals. I enjoy hearing actual personality in hosts. But these two sound so vapid that it's painful. If I wanted to hear drunken giggles interspersed with "totally" and "fer real," I'd visit a frat house. I'm glad that some folks enjoy it; I love science and appreciate that it is being shared with an audience who appreciate it with this feed. I'm not trying to change the mind of anybody who likes TWIS... just a word of warning for those who have already had enough of adolescence. It's just too sophomoric and "science-lite" for me.

I Thought I Didn't Like Science
My father is a scientist - a geochemist to be exact - and all my life I have been unwillingly subjected to science. That is, until I discovered TWIS. Ever since last summer I've been listening to the podcasts and enjoying my newfound science knowledge. Kirsten and Justin are not only science gurus, but also quirkily funny and highly entertaining. They condense a week's worth of science into digestable pieces. This is a show I've recommended to people across the board - from scientists to restaurant workers. Keep up the good work!!

Dreadful
Are we all listening to the same podcast? The one I've sampled is a goofy, disjointed stew of recycled news, bad jokes and giggling. There's no "science" in this science podcast beyond basic reportage of facts gleaned from other sources. The hosts provide no meaningful context for understanding the stories upon which they're commenting. "Maybes," "I thinks," and "I dunnos" pervade every story, and the hosts make very little effort to fact-check their speculations.

I've heard 'em all, But I LISTEN to TWIS!
Consistently excellent, this podcast is delivered to lay-people in terms that we can understand. (rather than a PHd candidate trying to impress the scientific powers that be, TWIS is for real, and it's for us) Kirsten and Justin make science fun; my third grade son loves to listen to this program with me. Give it a try! And if you like it, remember...the UCDavis radio station is largely funded by donations...So visit the gift shop, buy a tee. No doubt if this program could be picked up by a commercial station... But let's keep TWIS pure by offering our support. Thank You K and J, Hear ya Tuesday!

Science is Alive and Well...
Five bright super-novas for this fantastic science podcast! As a former teacher of 12 years turned children's science program host/producer and science lover/advocate, I can say with confidence/authority (and no more backslashes) that TWIS is the most refreshing and informative science podcast on the net. Justin and Kirsten have great chemistry and the content presentation is both informative and humorous. If you're into anything "sciencey" at all, on a personal or professional level, check out This Week in Science! (You won't be sorry.)

Great Overview of Current Science News
This is a terrific podcast if you're wanting to get the latest science news delivered to you by two very attractive podcast personalities. Although blatantly slanted toward evolutionist views (one can easily tell that they don't seem to respect those on the creationism side), Kirsten and Justin certainly do tend to bring a smile to the listener's face quite easily as they don't take themselves too seriously, which is a huge plus. Well done guys!

A great podcast, with two little annoyances.
Excellent podcast, now that Kirsten is back. While she was remote, it was difficult to listen because of technical issues. I've heard a few podcasts where co-hosts were able to seemlessly record from remote locations, and this wasn't one of them. I think a better technical hook-up between NY and CA would have made all the difference. That being said, I do appreciate the effort that it took to keep the thing running, and I'm very glad things are back to normal. The second annoyance is the name "- This Week in Scence - ..." Is the leading hyphen really necessary? It's very spammy, and clearly designed to put the podcast at the top of the sorted list. Like "A Able Towing Company" in the Yellow Pages, it smacks of smarmy, unoriginal, and unnecessary gimmicks. It's not the only podcast to do this, but it is the only podcast that I listen to that does this. Of course, it's all about me, and my podcasting listener needs - I am that shallow. In anticipation of responses to this post - I will concede that yes, I do need to get a life.

Great show!!
Who says science has to be stuffy? This show is hip, funny, and just cool! the kicker is that Kirsten is the real brain on the program. A great role model for girls who might enter science professions. Note to would-be mad scientists: you MUST hear the Podcast from January 23, 2006. The second half of the show talks about a new hobby book that you will have to buy, once you've heard about it.

TWIS Rocks My Socks..
I love this show. Occasionally Kirsten can be mean to Justin and sometimes I want to punch them both in the face, BUT, they entertain me and site everything they say with a source like NIH (or maybe NIMH considering these two) or a university. Ok I’ve read all the other 17 reviews. Everyone loves TWIS… everyone but the two reviewers who brought the ranking down. In adherence to good Christian practice, tolerance- good will and such, can Apple delete the naysayer’s opinion? Better yet, pretend the bad data (reviews) never existed and burn/dismember/stone the sinning Philistine offenders?

This Week In Science
Although there are lots of science shows available on iTunes, I feel that this is one of the most interesting, ranking right up there with Dr. Karl on Triple J (Australian) and The Naked Scientists (England). The stories are always timely and interesting and Justin and Kirsten can always find the humor, no matter how deeply buried under the horror of "the end of the world." This is the first science podcast I listen to after my regular Sunday Night downloads.

Very Good Podcast
Excellent presentation of science. As a clinician and scientist, the lay public bashing docs stuff gets old but tolerable. Obviously these 2 respect science. I was astonished to Mr Susskind's (string theory progenitor) tenacity to dilute any allusion to intelligent design. The very order we anticipate when we study science precludes design, not chaos. Were our hypotheses based on moving targets, we'd discover nothing of lasting value. The presumption of design is written into every hypothesis and grant. Without it, the universe---big, beautiful and expanding---as well as likely 'an Earth' among other universes--loses it's ability to be studied believably... KUTGW

It's a fine live radio show. It's not a good podcast. If they went back to the radio show & compressed all the blah blah yap yap into a 20- to 30-minute concise 'cast, then it would be five stars. Instead, I'll be unsubscribing today.

One of a Kind Science Podcast with Personality
A unique blend of science and personality. Bounded by bland science dissertations and sensationalist podcast claptrap, TWIS defines its own space between information and entertainment and works it for all it's worth. Each week hosts Kirsten and Justin put out a polished and professional review of the week in science research, which while very informative, still manages to come across as fun, personal, and entertaining. Some may be offended by their non-ivory tower presentation of science, but for me this makes TWIS a must-have science podcast.

I love these two :-) They are a good team. The topics are relevant, and presented in an entertaining manner. I cant believe some people rated this as a "1". I think it has more to do with the reviewers political views than it has to do with the quality of this show. These guys are fair and open minded, but not afraid to call out certain hypocricies and conflicts of interests that exist in the world of science today - and that reality is as important as the science behind it. I just hope Kirsten doesnt leave for NY for good! Grrrr....

Hip way to get your weekly science fix
Each week's TWIS show is something I look forward to. It's so much fun to listen to Kirsten and Justin work their way through the headlines in their own scientifically accurate yet entertaining (and occasionally silly - we need more silliness in this world!) way. They both pick out some fascinating stories and interview some really cool people - not to mention the killer theme music. My favorite way to learn stuff, hands down. Keep up the excellent work, TWIS Overlords!

Great Science Podcast
This is a great science medicacast when it works. The hosts are interesting and the topics are entertaining. To be warned, their feed has not been updating due to some of their changes, but I believe that if they get it all together that this could be 10 times better than NPR, The Discovery Channel or any or topical science outlet you use. They have lots of archives on their site that are worth checking out until their feed works weekly ... really this is not amateur stuff - these guys are good.
