Appreciated
Really appreciated the latest episode in which Jayson & his wife talked candidly about their own relationship struggles over the holidays. It’s actually really encouraging to know that even relationship experts trip up and struggle sometimes!

A let down
The episodes he does with couples can be interesting and helpful. He lost me on the episode where he talked about new Dads and in the middle of it said the episode was for the ‘well off families’. Sorry I’m not a ‘well off’ Dad that has to work overnight shift and a second job so Mom can be home more. I honestly could not believe he said that. Also, he cusses like a teenager. Hard to take a man and ‘counselor’ seriously when he talks like a guy your sitting next to at a bar. At times he seems unprepared and rambles. I had hopes for this podcast but for me it’s just a let down.

Thank you & then some!!!
After repeating a never-ending argument pattern (learned that from one of your episodes 😉) with my husband of 25 years, I found your podcast & am loving it!! I immediately introduced my hubby to it & we now both have hope for the future of our marriage!

Patronizing
I found Jayson's discussion of parenting very dismissive and judgmental. He repeatedly spoke about whether parents care about relationships with their kids, with assumptions that certain actions mean they do or do not. I did not hear any concrete guidance.

Wonderful podcast- SO many valuable episodes
I have been listening to this podcast for several years now. Every episode has value, some IMMENSE value!! The people that Jayson interviews are knowledgeable and have a lot of helpful information, strategies, tools, etc. to share. Even the coffee talk style episodes that he has done with his wife Ellen, in recent years, are informative, have expanded my awareness in regard to myself and others and provide me with many great takeaways. Thank you Jayson for all you do to help make the world a better place!

Authentic style & content ~ accessible yet nuanced
Check out the extensive “back catalogue” of past shows. So many spot on & uber-useful life lessons from these folks. Pitched more toward those under 50 - so the language / presentation is of-the-moment and often fun. My only caveat is that, occasionally, there’s too much meandering chat between Jayson & his therapist partner. I am impatient for the excellent, straightforward topic content. (Oh, where is my mindfulness / compassion when I need it 🦑?) Usually, though, the TRS pod is truly worth your time.

Hooked
I was introduced to Jayson’s work a couple of years ago. Recognizing my lack of skills, i was interested in his approach to relationships. I dove in and just completed my training to be a coach. This stuff helps with all of your relations and most importantly the relationship with yourself. Keep on growing, keep on pushing to be a better person… the world needs more caring & loving! Jayson and Ellen’s work is a BIG part of the solution for a healthy planet…

Great content!
I’m a therapist in Alpharetta, GA and listen to this podcast often while exercising. I just finished listening to episode 395 on the anxious-avoidant couple. Such great content! I loved the opportunity to hear the way another therapist works. It is so helpful to hear how knowledge gets translated into practice. Thank you for your work!

Do not purchase RS Courses
Customer service at Relationship School is incredibly disorganized and does not model the communication skills discussed in Getting to Zero. They have not provided the materials purchased, did not host the scheduled calls, and have been incredibly difficult to work with. I have provided explicit details of the various issued and not received a response or a genuine apology for the difficulty. Yes, I asked for an apology as Jason doesn’t believe you should apologize unless it’s meaningful to the person. I’ve asked more than once. The closest thing I’ve received is, “I’m sorry you experienced communication issues,” as they tried to blame emails going to spam. Later they confirmed the emails were NEVER sent.

Beautiful and thoughtful conversations
Wow, just noticing myself wanting to take a few weeks off from my day job and listen to each podcast episode. Just stumbled across you/your podcast a few days ago. Started out looking for a couples therapist. Now very strongly considering applying for the couples coaching school for a number of reasons. Listening to podcast episodes is strengthening interest and alignment. Really loving what Im hearing, the people you attract, appreciating the sincerity and thoughtfulness and in many ways, re-connecting with displaced parts of myself.

Thought provoking and on point
Thank you for these podcasts. The topics and discussions open my mind and have lead me to dive deeper into myself and my own limiting beliefs about myself and relationships. I know that there will always be work to be done but these podcasts help me navigate that road and get me to be better version of me.

Incredibly helpful!
Wow. After 27 years of marriage where I felt like my partner and I were rarely on the same page (and totally his fault) I decided it was time to learn about relationships. I started with episode 1 about 4 months ago and have listened to about 250 episodes, mostly in order, so far, even the ones that sounded like topics that didn’t necessarily pertain to me. I’ve learned practical tools and techniques for communicating more directly as well as how to repair after conflict. And even more importantly, I feel like I’ve gone through a paradigm shift for what it means to be in a long term, committed relationship and how I contribute to how amazing that relationship is (or not). I feel truly grateful to Jason and his wife Ellen for freely sharing so much of their expertise. I highly recommend this podcast to everyone.

Transformative!
So much value and wisdom provided in this podcast. Jayson provides knowledge with the added benefit of actionable steps to improve the listener’s ability to relate and communicate. For Jayson specifically: You’re very clear in your intention to integrate relational knowledge into education. So, I also want to add that I’ve integrated concepts that I’ve learned from you into a college course I teach on professionalism. I approach professionalism through the lens of self-awareness and include topics like emotional intelligence, navigating conflict, and giving and providing feedback. Just wanted to let you know that your goal of providing information to future generations is being realized. Thank you, sincerely, for your work and vision!

Makes Me Feel Human
I don’t have a success story to share, I haven’t listened long enough. All I have is the way I’ve been able to personally relieve the stress of feeling like no one understands. The amount of different people, scenarios, examples and opinions that are available within the episodes of this podcast are extensive… I hear little bits of my problems in almost every different one, and when I don’t I hear a little bit about someone else’s problems in my life. You’ll be able to relate, and benefit just from listening and feeling no longer alone in your problems. I hope one day I’ll have a success story and be able to leave another review!

Self-promotional and disrespectful to both the highly skilled professionals he interviews & audience
I really wanted to like this podcast because he has some amazingly skilled couples therapists and attachment pioneers on from time to time, and I tried hard to give it a chance but every episode left me with a high level visceral experience of disgust. For all the 20-25 minute short podcasts, he spends the first 10 minutes rattling on about wanting people to leave him great reviews. Self-promo should not be 40-50% of the episode - that feels really self-serving and was a real turnoff not just from the podcast but the "school" itself. I saw him use a lot of other hyper agressive toxic patriarchal marketing tactics on instagram and fb ads and wish this guy would give being real and authentic a try instead of using those approaches which are such a turnoff. One of the other awful things was I kept feeling like he's not fully present with the people he interviews - he often cuts them off in the middle of them making a really good point to interject with a question he things is more important, but it's usually nowhere near as interesting as what they were saying. Then he has these amazingly gifted relationship therapists on and I swear I could hear him checking out at times and wondered if it was just me, but nope - then I could hear his keyboard super quickly and loudly clacking away WHILE HIS GUESTS ARE TALKING. Instead of listening to this great, skilled professionals and learning from them so he can get better at what he does, he wastes the opportunity by multitasking which is rude to them, but also rude to listeners because then they have to navigate the distraction instead of being able to soak up the wisdom of these incredible people. Jayson seems to very focused on himself, which I get comes from some unresolved wounding and insecurites, but wow - to think you are trying to teach other people from that place instead of taking what these people who are more skilled and experienced in and learn and grow. Honestly just awful. Don't waste as many hours on it as I did. There are so many other relationship podcasts out there that actually respect the people it interviews and where people are humble and take responsibility for their humanness.

Just what I need, always
Jason, thank you for the work you do to keep us learning. Anecdote alert- these days have been a struggle for me mentally. As I got on my car, I asked God to send help my way today and like usual, I decided to listen to an episode. While the topic was helpful (Fear of Abandonment), Jason started the recording by saying: “whatever you’re facing today, you’ve got this...” and that was the help I needed. Thank you, always.

I’m thoroughly enjoying the experts and discussions on this podcast. I’m so grateful for the pointers on parenting, being a better communicator at work, and how to be healthier in relationships. One of my favorite guests was the angry therapist. So real! This is benefitting me as a teacher of middle school students and as a single mom of a little boy. Greatest decision of my life to this day.
Jayson, just when I started to trust a man who wear’s white sunglasses, you flip the script with these neo-funk yellow lenses. I can dig though. I have listened to this podcast over 4 years, completed DPIR and am half way through RCT. This podcast reminded me of my story and why I am on the mission that I am. THANK YOU. You (and John Kim) reminded me how grateful I am to be a male in this day and age with the opportunity to reshape the masculine expression in today’s society. I am extremely privileged and STOKED to be a dude right now. I might still be in a lot of pain and confusion without your work, the podcast, and the school. Attending The Relationship School is one of the GREATEST decisions I have made in my my life to this day. It has empowered me to connect with myself, my experience, the people I love and complete strangers on a-whole-nother level. The next best choice I make in life will be the woman I ask to be my wife and mother to our beautiful children. Big ups to everything you and your team are doing. Lots of love and respect to Ellen and the family unit. Namasté

A little disappointed
I follow Jason on IG and really enjoy a lot of his content. The episode with his wife, Ellen, was so frustrating! The two were rambling on the quite a bit and then made several statements insinuating that attachment styles are all equal and complimentary.... really belies the fact that there is a preferred attachment style - SECURE... and that that is the goal. I’m no expert but have done a lot of reading and researching (Attached, Hold me tight... etc) and this podcast was at wills with some of the main tenants of the originators of attachment style theory.

Just okay
I’m sure there are many people who like it and some who don’t. Just opinions. 1. I think it’s super strange to read your own reviews at the beginning of the podcasts. Like hey I’m so great. I can’t imagine doing that in a business before someone works with you or buys your book. Just strange. 2. I think some of the guests are good and helpful. However, it’s extremely slowwww. An hour podcast 20 minutes are ready reviews and advertising his other business workshops etc. it would be much more interesting just getting to the point and at the end spending 30 seconds sharing marketing stuff. 3. Ive listened to a few and someone is typing throughout the podcast and phone is going off. I just can’t. Good information but not good structure. To each their own I suppose.

Great podcast in so many areas
This is a great entry point to taking action and accountability with ourselves in relationship. I like that he brings a range of guests with different specialties like the recent one he brought in about our relationship to money and the narcissism episodes. I took the 2 day workshop on how to do conflict and got a lot from practicing active listening and getting to observe how other couples deal with their challenges. As an educator, I will take the many relational lessons this podcast offers to my class and I appreciate the realness he brings to his approach.

I LOVE this podcast! I am a high school Health teacher and a big personal growth junkie. I love how Jayson always asks his guests what they would say to a group of teens. I find it so helpful in applying these concepts and beautiful insights into the social and emotional lessons for my students. These topics spark great classroom discussions! I have been surprised at how much my students are interested in what makes relationships work. This podcast deepens my own relationships and helps me face my own demons. AND it helps me teach the next generation skills to lead them to fulfilling happiness. I am so, so appreciative!

I highly reccomend this to anyone seeking to learn and improve their relationships, gain insight into what makes that challenging, wants to grow as a person and do the work to improve the loving relationships in your life. I have shared episodes with friends and bought books by guests you've interviewed. You provide so much value. Thank you for creating excellent content in an important area of our life so we receive little education about!

Thank You
My boyfriend spent 10 years growing up in a South American orphanage. After dating for 7 months, some issues started bubbling up. I sent Episode 149: Fear of Abandonment to him, and it changed his trajectory. So many podcasters are cheesy and annoying; Jayson is level headed and informative, so I felt good forwarding that episode to him. Go back and listen from the beginning; all of them are relevant to being an emotionally healthy human being. Many thanks.

Thank you! I was introduced to your work by a friend and I have to say it is life changing. To be heard, seen, validated, appreciated and celebrated is so crucial when in relationship with anyone. This has brought so much clarity to my life. Helping me navigate through my relationships with my husband, my teenagers, my Mom and Dad... pretty much everyone I associate with. Thank you for sharing these tools!!

Able to imagine better
Thank you for getting all of this amazing content into the world. For too many years I’ve lived by the mantra - at least I’m not as bad as ... - meanwhile, my long-suffering wife has had to endure a marriage devoid of consistent connection and real intimacy. I’m realizing now that the tools needed for healthy relationship/friendship are NOT necessarily intuitive- they need to be modeled, inspired, taught and practiced practiced practiced. Really, listening to a bunch of your pods has helped me to imagine a new relational landscape and encouraged me to journey onward. I hope my wife and I will be able to model a new kind of love and friendship for our three kids and establish a lasting legacy for our family. Keep grinding, my man- folks need to hear this stuff! Peace.

Jason Gaddis has been guiding me through my relationship world for years now. Each podcast is unique and the speakers he hosts are powerful. I like to pick certain podcasts that target what I’m needing to learn through relationship, and find something fruitful each time. Although geared towards men at times, I find the podcasts particularly relevant to anyone, including myself as a woman, and recommend this to any ONE, whether in relationship or single. Thanks Jason!

A MUST
Found Jayson's work in early 2018 when the rug was pulled under my feet and my marriage of 15 years (together for 21) was suddenly (for me) falling apart. I dove into it, wanting to change my partner, save my marriage, but instead I found myself working on myself. Extremely uncomfortable yet necessary and eye opening. HIs work led me to a lot of other things, related to growth, self-development, parenting and relationships (whether intimate or otherwise). It allowed me to step away from my marriage, after 10 painful months of wanting it to save, yet getting smarter about myself and stronger. When I finally ended it I KNEW that I had done ALL that I could have done. It also allowed me to be comfortable alone (I found I am really god company), dig deep, and eventually be open for a new relationship. I am continously working on the relationship with my kids, wanting to be the best parent I can possibly be, and not let them fall into the same loop that their parents did, and their parents before etc. I started the IP course with the intent of being able to communicate better with my ex for the kids' sake. But also to rock my new relationship. Growth is painful. And worth it!

I found this podcast after googling “How comes my bf doesn’t like to hug”. I was desperate to understand what was wrong with my relationship, what was wrong with me. Little did I know that such a simple search would expand my awareness beyond comprehension. I have learned so much about myself. One the first things I learned from Jayson is “you are not broken” I was so freaking relieved. I am learning so much, Like my attachment style with my partner, children and parents and how it has shaped me as an individual. I am working the best relationship coach from Jayson’s school. Life changing in a clear way
Wow just wow! This podcast showed & taught me the exact information I was seeking & needing to learn. Being in a dead marriage yet not wanting a divorce I was stuck & hugely afraid to repeat the same issues or mistakes moving forward with another man. Right....the grass isn’t greener etc etc.... I listened to many many podcasts & bought ESH. Then eventually went to the weekend in Boulder CO for the Embracing Conflict class. HUGE HUGE learning! I’m now happily divorced & live my life like a different person. My health is way better. My circle of friends is phenomenal. My family relationships are clearer & deeper. And I even have huge advancements in my career as well. I’m forever grateful to Jayson & his staff! Laura

The episode on Narcissism changed my marriage!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For this great podcast. I found your episode on Narcissism to be really helpful and had a HUGE a-ha moment while listening. During some of our more heated arguments, my partner would get frustrated with me and try to tell me that he is not responsible for my feelings. In each conflict is a clue, and it wasn’t until I listened to the episode on narcissism how my family of origin impacted some unhealthy boundary setting (or lack there of). If I assume the role of caretaker and feel responsible for his happiness, it’s likely that I am expecting him to looking over mine. Since realizing this, I have turned a corner in my personal growth and in my marriage. Thank you and can’t wait for your new episodes each week.

Deep Gratitude and Thanks
I’ve been married to my husband and high school sweetheart for almost 27 years. We’ve been in each others’ lives for over 30!! We’ve lived all over the US and in several other countries, and we have three beautiful adult children. The last ten years or so have been amazingly interesting and challenging, filled with a lot of change and a lot of pain. Due to a fairy traumatic childhood, I’ve always read and researched a lot on psychology, the brain, depression, and relationships. I thought I had a good handle on this self-growth and development ‘thing’... but I was wrong. My husband and I have been taking about separating for about two years now. It was right around our 25th anniversary that things started looking hopelessly gloomy! Right when one would think things should be easy and celebrated, we were at our lowest! We tried lots of things: self-help relationship books, therapy, both individually and together, and once we even actually decided to go our separate ways... but something always keeps us together, fighting the good fight. However, we were/are both getting really tired. I was ‘diagnosed’ with major depression and PTSD many years ago and I have always been on the search for drug free treatment. I’ve done CBT, EMDR and other individual therapy. What I found to be most helpful was neurotherapy and meditation... and just simply restructuring how I think. My point is that I’ve done a lot of ‘work’ and I have read a lot too. But there was always a missing ‘thing’, especially when it came time to my relationship with my husband. I somehow recently found the The Smart Couple podcast. I have no idea how, but I’m glad I did. I dove in and have listened to most of the episodes. Sometimes I listen to them twice. I’ve shared many with my husband, and we both have found very practical tools to use immediately - aha... the missing ‘thing’. I’ve also found more help in reading material from new names like Dr. Demartini and Stan Tatkin. Don’t even ask me how I hadn’t ever heard these names before. In conclusion, I can already feel relief! I can already see how my husband and I are using practical, logical tools to navigate our relationship more positively and effectively. We have a lot to learn and a lot to practice, but for once in a long, long time I am feeling more hopeful, and for that I offer you the deepest gratitude and thanks!

It wouldn’t be bad if...
If you don’t mind SJW crap. One episode had the host apologize to those of color for him being a white guy. If you did nothing wrong then there is no need to say sorry. There were several episodes that prefaced their show with apologies. Relationships are of equality and people can’t respect you if your kissing their backside all the time.

Giving me inspiration and hope
I just started listening to this podcast with reasons everyone else is. I’m engaged to the most beautiful woman and we are now 10 weeks pregnant. We have hit some strong tides and have talked about splitting up once in a while. I’ve felt hopeless and felt trapped and always shut down and get angry when we get in fights. Jayson has made me realize how I’ve brought my past into my present relationship and how I have causes stress and conflict. My fiancé has had the most patience and we’ve given each other chances. We’ve had threats here and there of leaving, as Jayson explains “Security Conflicts.” The reality that others are going through this helps give me hope, and now I can’t wait to see my fiancé after she gets off work. Thank you Jayson!

Perfect timing
This podcast came into my life a couple of weeks ago at a time i needed it most. It has helped me step outside myself and better see things from my husbands perspective. I’ve listened to episodes dating all the way back to last summer (to get my Dan Siegel fix) and have loved the variety of guests. Keep up the great work. I’m a marriage family therapist who will reference this often.

I’m around episode 11, and I am super grateful for this podcast and the important influence it is without a doubt having in the world. I imagine a wave crashing over the relationship world, and moving and shaking the cultural norms surrounding marriage and partnership. These episodes and the guests featured are powerful, brilliant and extraordinarily diverse—some of what I hear aligns with who I am, and other parts are helpful to consider though they may not be for me. Have an issue in your relationship? Chances are it’s covered somewhere in this podcast. This is cutting edge relationship advice that is street level, non-cliched, smart, and challenging, yet somehow common sense and straightforward. Think I’ve listened to every episode in the past couple years. I owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Gaddis for this podcast

I have learned so much from these interviews and have passed them along to others. The information is scientifically sound (I’m a physician), and presented in a way that is easy to understand and apply. I’m looking forward to the day that we will teach this kind of information about relationships (along with reading, writing, and arithmetic) to all of our children!

Thank you Jayson Gaddis! Smart Couple 4 Life!!!
This podcast has literally changed my life and every relationship in it. I’ve been listening for about a year, after a colleague, who was having a rough patch with his wife, recommended it to me. As fans of self growth and a desire to enhance our connection, my girlfriend and I both dove right in (admittedly mostly her idea after 4 years into our relationship which was going well but needed an intimacy jumpstart). The Smart Couple podcast has given me the language, tools, and courage to LEAN into the difficult times and help myself and my partner live up to our life’s potential and fulfill our purpose. Jaysons work and that of his guests is cutting edge stuff... hold onto your seats, you and every relationship in your life is about to change. Sincere thank you, Jason, I do hope we can make it out to Boulder (or Bay Area) to attend one of your future weekend workshops! Zach Grass Valley, CA

I searched for something like this for a while. So grateful.
I've been spending the last few months listening through all of Jayson's podcasts from the beginning to the end. They've completely changed the way I view my relationship, but also the way I see, hear and understand the people I interact with daily at work, at my hobbies and just with friends in general. I'm shaking my head and saying "What the hell was I thinking till now?" But I can't blame myself or my wife or my friends. We just didn't know any better. And it's amazing that many of us have been to "couples therapy", but still no one explained it all to us the way Jayson, his wife and the real experts he interviews do. Keep them and your other offerings coming, Jayson.

Gratitude
I was turned on to the smart couple podcast about a year and a half ago when I met my partner. Very grateful to Jason for creating and maintaining TSC as it has been an amazing asset in cultivating the relationship I never even knew I wanted. My only constructive feedback is his plugs for his school seem unnecessarily frequent and long. I'm all for plugs in general as I want to know about his school, but I find myself skipping them at this point. This in combination with some of the click-baity advertising takes away from the podcast. My suggestion is to include the plugs, but keep them around one minute. Sounds true really does a good job modeling advertising in a podcast in a way that I feel doesn't irk me as a listener.

Essential Education
Jayson's podcast has been instrumental in teaching us how deeper learning about relationships can lead to a greater sense of well being and connection with others. This podcast is an excellent mix of practical tools and deeper inquiry into work done by leading minds and hearts in the field who care about who we are with and to each other. The implications for how we might do relationships better with our intimate partners has so much potential for impacting what we teach our children and ultimately how we get along in this world. Essential listening for couples, the uncoupled, and the seekers
The Smart Couple podcast along with Jayson's whole community of "healers" (listeners, interviewees, Facebook postings, etc.) have been instrumental in repairing the damages from the destruction of betrayal, long-held trauma, and depression. My wife and I have been married for 15 years yet were incapable of handling a major upheaval before we discovered the Smart Couple podcasts. We dove in as individuals, sometimes listening together but mostly apart. When we were able to come together we strove to emulate and practice new skills with each other, believing in the testimony of many others who Jayson brings on to the podcast. And what emerged is beyond my wildest dreams. Please, please, please give SC a listen and you will be grateful!

I also like the wide variety of guests that he has on the podcasts. Insightful, Always on the Mark, and Real
I never miss an episode of the smart couple podcast, because even after visiting multitudes of therapists and reading scores of self development books, I find Jayson and his guest speakers deliver the most effective and relevant insights into navigating relationships, and being in right relationship to myself, that I have experienced. Jayson is like a strong, supportive friend on my development path. His guests are also incredibly talented in their own right and offer such brilliant curriculum in their own niches that I want to learn more about each one. If only I had this podcast at my disposal in my young adult years, I could have saved myself the heartbreak I endured by making so many wrong choices. I applaud Jayson's unerring dedication to educating everyone he can reach to bring relationship health up to the highest standards.

Rich, raw, amazing,
I can’t say enough about this podcast! Jayson Gaddis’s work is radical, real, humble, honest, and so practical regarding work with couples. I became interested in his writing and this podcast during a time when my partnership was in a tough spot (we nearly decided to end things) — but through being a regular listener of this show, I feel like I have gained a really clear view of what a healthy, life-giving relationship should look and feel like. Fights and conflict are not nearly as scary — they’re more opportunities to use the tools right and to connect deeper. Thanks so much for the ways you serve, Jayson! You are a genuine and powerful force in this universe! So much love and gratitude. :) :) :)

This podcast is spot on and for the growth drive individual in relationship
I stumbled upon this podcast from a google search I did. I have been in a healthy partnership for the first time in my adult life (I'm 38) over the last year. I've always been naturally focused on responsibility and growth, but I avoided the area of love for years. I took it head on after my last substantial headache at the age of 35. I was tied of the repetitive pattern I was putting myself through and finally took a hard look inward. Moving from self love, to working toward understanding my fears and childhood impact, to choosing to step into love and partnership with someone. I dabbled on this podcast for a few weeks but due to a road bump I recently caused in my relationship, I seriously dove in this week. I'm swimming in it. When the student is ready the teacher will appear. The timing has been perfect. The understanding I am grasping about myself and the role a partner is to play in my life has been eye opening. I am grateful for the knowledge and the learning. It's only just the beginning. This podcast is forthright. Not for someone not tapped in. But for that someone who is, it hits the nail on the head while also providing encouragement and validation about the relationship process. I am grateful. Thank you, Jayson Gaddis.

Game Changer!
THANK YOU to Jayson Gaddis (and his wife Ellen) for showing me my blind spots and saving my marriage!!! After having our first baby, my husband and I, even though we were high school sweethearts, together for over 15 years, went into a major tailspin crisis that lasted for a year. I happened to see a Facebook ad for one of Jayson's online workshops, which I signed up for immediately out of desperation. After that, I was hooked: I started listening to his podcast, following him on social media and telling all of my friends (men and women) that they needed to start listening to him. Brilliant. I’ve always been hugely into self development and relationship tools, read tons of books and been to therapy, but NOBODY had been able to put things in such a revolutionary way as Jayson Gaddis. Now we have the *practical* step-by-step tools and techniques that we had been searching for for so long, and all of my relationships across the board have benefitted from the ideas Jayson and his guests share on his podcast. Listen to at least 3 of these before you decide it’s not for you; the knowledge offered here is crucial. Thank you again. 💖 -Sylvia Hendershott

My husband and I have listened to every podcast, many of them more than once. Our latest favorite is Episode 84. We don't listen together but it's lots of fun to talk afterwards and see what nuggets we each extracted. Your work and these podcasts have taken our marriage from ho-hum to amazing, exciting, fun. We are more connected now than ever. The tools you teach work just as well in our other relationships--with our kids, our parents, co-workers and so on. And our kids are learning, too! Our only smidgen of a complaint is that we find the use of profane language distracting at times. Otherwise, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Deep, deeper, deepest!
I have been following Jayson's work for three years now. I initially found him on a google search while I was trying to find resources to understand my ex-partner's emotional unavailability. I have been a Buddhist practioner for many years and spirituality was not new to me. However, there seemed to be a gap between my theory and practice. My relationship, at the time, was flailing and try as I might to understand the deeper reasons, most articles out there would give 'quick tips and tricks' or even propogate the myth of 'waiting for the one' to fall into one's lap. That was a truly great time, when I started delving into Jayson's material. I felt really understood when I started reading about concepts like 'pain avoidance', masculinity and escapism, what the relational space is lacking today..and so on...His work gave me a way of going deeper, what I always wanted and my understanding of relationship hasn't been the same ever since. I'm a regular listener, a therapist myself and an ardent follower of his and his wife's work. These podcasts are absolutely fantastic and if one truly does the work, there is really no looking back.

About 9 months I found Jayson Gaddis on accident, someone I follow on Instagram reposted one of his quotes. After following him on Instagram I found out he had a podcast which I try to listen to often and will sometimes share with my boyfriend. My boyfriend now, thankfully, follows him too! He always gives good advice and ways to think about improving ourselves in order to make our relationships better. He teaches you how to take responsibility for our actions and how to listen with intent to our partners. I really enjoy reading his posts, listening and sharing his podcasts, and I honestly have never heard anyone talk about relationships in this style. Jason’s podcast and philosophy on relationships have encouraged and saved my relationship. His belief that intimate relationships are the most challenging thing you will ever do, but worth every effort to grow and improve has changed my paradigm. I am grateful for he and his wife’s honesty and vulnerability in their relationship to share the good, bad, challenges, and rewards. I listen on a regular basis and find encouragement and reminders that I can do this. Jason explains the difference between a challenging relationship and one that is not working. The later meaning that one person isn’t willing to work. Those are the relationships to move on from, but if you are with someone who is willing to work with you in the relationship, all the challenges are simply the result of two humans trying to work together when we each have individual pursuits. The greatest takeaway for me in this podcast is that if you don’t solve your personal relationship issues and fears with the person you are with now, they will come up in another relationship. That’s powerful stuff that I hadn’t heard before. I am *SO* incredibly grateful for all the information in Jason’s podcasts.

Tools of Empowerment
In a cluttered, confusing mash up of relationship "experts", Jayson has a refreshingly blunt, bold, heartfelt, purposeful set of tools that have changed my perspective on marriage. After 14 years of marriage, my husband and I are having tough conversations in a loving, empowering way. We are digging deep into ourselves and appreciating each other and our differences so much more! We've read lots of books, listened to lots of podcasts. This one is timely, relevant and functional to our everyday lives. Thank you, Jayson!! Keep 'em coming!! You are a shining light in an often misunderstood, neglected topic. 💜

The Smart Couple Podcast. Episode 59
Just listened to this podcast today, and it's such helpful information. Love the distinction between two kinds of expectations, and it helps me see how I have participated in both - on both sides - and the connection to resentment. As always, awesome content for REAL LIFE relationships and personal growth and development!!!

Share this with your partner...and everyone you know!
It always seems free advice goes in one ear and out the other. But not this body of work of podcasts by Jayson Gaddid. He has changed 99% of the way I look at life and relationship. So much so that what was once a situation that felt unmanageable is now enjoyable! His work is so easy to digest and implement that I shake my head at why more people don't think and live with Jayson's framework for relationship. I use it in my initmate relationship, my business relationships...heck, I use it in everything that has to do with relating! Don't miss this podcast subscription if you want to rock out your relationships.

The light to my dark
Hi Jayson and people who are interested in being a smart couple. There are many things I want and can say about Jayson's podcast, I've been listening for 3 months now and wow, to how much growth and knowledge I have gained for individual and marriage growth. Recently I was in a very dark place in my marriage and all I did was listen to Jayson, it made me cry, it made that light bulb go off inside and it made me smile and be happy. The most important valuable advice I got is to know, it's HARD! Knowing what you have to do and say and having the right tools for a successful personal growth. Thank you Jayson for teaching us how to be long term committed relationship because most of us do not know how to be. Thank you thank you thank you. Victoria

Jayson, I really appreciate your podcasts. I find them clear, concise and helpful. It is comforting and reassuring for me to hear from a male whose perspectives I resonate with most of the time. I am very much focused on growth and development and am quite proud of myself for that after listening to you. Please do more podcasts on the specifics of how to inspire one's partner rather than try to control them. Thank you! Amy

real, raw, vulnerable, invaluable
I've been mining the wisdom and candor of Jayson Gaddis for 2.5 years, starting at a time when my marriage was in real peril. From the very first exposure, I found myself re-invested in relationship excellence, but when the Smart Couple podcast launched, I've deepened in my ability to have my own back, even in the context of the ways in which I "show up" where there's clearly more room to "grow up." Jayson's clear voice and commitment advocacy makes me wanna dig in when it comes to all of my relationships, and it's been such a relief to feel like I have this kind of human in my corner while I'm facing myself in the process. I never miss an episode, and I wish this conversation were happening more in daily life. The Smart Couple is full of tools for anyone who's interested in strengthening relationship integrity, even if that relationship is with oneself. Thank you Jayson!!!

My friend turned me on to The Smart Couple and I really look forward to new episodes and love going back to listen to old ones I missed. Jayson has great topics and amazing guests that really bring a healthy, perspective that isn't the typical social norm of what is acceptable when in relationship long term. Jayson himself can be intense, but it clearly fueled by his passion for the topic, which is so appreciated. I love sharing the episodes with my partner and creating dialogue. What I found as I listened, is that the podcast is actually an amazing tool on communication skills in general - very applicable to work/professional settings, one’s relationship with self and with partners/friends/family. This last one on boundaries inspired me to write, phenomenal!! Keeps me expanding and curious, thanks so much Jayson and contributors!

I found Jayson Gaddis's work last summer during some pretty tough times in my relationship and personal development. I reached enough pain to where I was willing and taking action to do what ever I needed to do to grow. Finding Jayson's podcast was eye-opening to a no-nonsense, heartfelt approach to relationships but most importantly to finding your authentic self and learning how to stay true to yourself. I now follow Jayson's podcast, periscope, blogs, and when I can take his classes because it's truly been useful to actually seeing results. Don't get me wrong I spent months with one foot in and foot out, and the results were mediocre just like my efforts. But as soon as I delved fully the results are night and day. He's built an amazing community to help you along the way. I am so grateful for his work which to me was part of the final piece after many years of therapy and repetitive mistakes that only reinforced the behaviors and self-views I kept "saying" I wanted to change. I recommend this podcast and all of the other resources Jayson's offers to anyone who just wants to better themselves and their relationships (romantic and other types).

Powerful, vulnerable, and juicy!
The Smart Couple podcast promises a lot- a framework for relationships in which we learn to remain in our integrity, meet our priorities, AND still have a fulfilling relationship? It sounds too good to be true. Jayson Gaddis recognizes that this is hard work, and that is just one of the aspects of this podcast that makes it so accessible. Jayson and all of his carefully selected guests on the show get vulnerable as they share the struggles they experience in their relationships. These experts and gurus are right there with us, facing the fire and holding themselves accountable, and the impact of that is great. I always end each episode feeling inspired, heart-open, ready to dig deeper in my own experience. This podcast is for anyone who is interested in growing and building self-awareness through their relationships.

I have studied ( and been in) relationships for years and Jayson's podcast is the most practical and inspiring so far. ALong with his YouTube channel, the advices he gives are realistic and based on actual life, not some fantasized version of what we'd like our relationships to be, but what it takes to face our inner demons, move through the fire of relationship conflict and embrace it all with love. His latest interview with Annie Lalla has been the best one yet.

In addition to co-writing recent New York Times bestseller The Myth of Normal with his father, Dr. Gabor Maté, Daniel is a composer, lyricist, playwright, podcaster, artist, musician, and mental chiropractor - a current day renaissance man. Hear about how Daniel relates to his father, his experience growing up with Maté privilege, and how he contextualizes the complexities of the parent-child relationship psychologically while providing us with insightful reframes that speak to how we relate to our parents as adults. A few quotes from the book we feel compelled to share with you in hopes of inspiring you to read/listen to the book: “Trauma, until we work it through, keeps us stuck in the past, robbing us of the present moment’s riches, limiting who we can be.” “What joys have you denied yourself out of a belief that you don’t deserve them, or out of a conditioned fear that they’ll be snatched away?” “Whether we realize it or not, it is our woundedness, or how we cope with it, that dictates much of our behavior, shapes our social habits, and informs our ways of thinking about the world.” “Time after time it was the “nice” people, the ones who compulsively put other’s expectations and needs ahead of their own and who repressed their so-called negative emotions, who showed up with chronic illness in my family practice, or who came under my care at the hospital palliative ward I directed.” “Chronic rage, by contrast, floods the system with stress hormones long past the allotted time. Over the long term, such a hormonal surplus, whatever may have instigated it, can make us anxious or depressed; suppress immunity; promote inflammation; narrow blood vessels, promoting vascular disease throughout the body;” “It doesn’t matter whether we can point to other people who seem more traumatized than we are, for there is no comparing suffering. Nor is it appropriate to use our own trauma as a way of placing ourselves above others—“You haven’t suffered like I have”—or as a cudgel to beat back others’ legitimate grievances when we behave destructively. We each carry our wounds in our own way; there is neither sense nor value in gauging them against those of others.” “Like our other needs, meaning is an inherent expectation. Its denial has dire consequences. Far from a purely psychological need, our hormones and nervous systems clock its presence or absence. As a medical study in 2020 found, the "presence [of] and search for meaning in life are important for health and well-being." Simply put, the more meaningful you find your life, the better your measures of mental and physical health are likely to be. I’m curious to hear your thoughts because I’ve been doing a bit of research and finding different takes on it…” Another listener wonders if these phrases signal a lack of personal responsibility in a codependent relationship: “‘I can only feel okay when she (or he) is feeling okay,’ ‘I feel I need to make her (or him) happy,’ and ‘Happy wife, happy life’ ; how would an attachment framework view codependency?”. - AMA—Anxiously Attached Person, Emotions and Men, Accepting Your Partner as They Are - Jayson and Ellen - 429Taber asks, “I’m an anxiously attached person and it’s become clear to me that it doesn’t work for me that my partner talks to another woman every day, behind my back. I have found proof that he has crossed the line with her before, and with anxious attachment I am not in a healthy enough place to accept him continuing friendship with this person. I’m welcoming advice on how to set this boundary for myself without just ending the relationship, and I certainly don’t want to give an ultimatum. I’m new to this and need to set my mind free.” Lestie wonders, “What do you simply accept in a relationship in the other, as opposed to trying to change it? I.e., one of you is clean, the other is messy, one is punctual, other is never on time… I’m having difficulty knowing what to and what not to address. I know Gottmans says 69% of issues in relationships aren’t resolved and it’s more about how you communicate about them than trying to change them, and where to draw the line? Some of these issues really bother me. I also tend to fall into the fixing role and can be a perfectionist, and I’m not wanting to do that in my relationship.” Angela asks, “Why do men view emotional development work as weak? I’m trying to put more insight into understanding this concept in society. I do understand society has had some old idealism about masculinity, not being in touch with emotions, and not being able to be as vulnerable because it’s seen as weakness, but I’d love to understand the depth of this and what’s really going on.” Join Ellen and Jayson’s in-depth chat as they talk through your questions in this Ask me Anything episode unpacking boundaries, insecure attachment dynamics, acceptance, and the systemic effect that is at play with men and their emotional landscape. - AMA: Mismatched Sex Drives & How To Feel Like You’re Enough - Jayson Gaddis - 427Nicole asks, “I found your interview with (Dan) Savage to be highly enlightening and incredibly emotional. As a married straight woman in a monogamous relationship with children, I felt very triggered by the concept of ‘enough’. Am I enough? I am constantly struggling to feel like I am enough of anything, and I feel like your podcast has started to help me feel settled into an idea that monogamy and marriage can provide enough for both partners, if it is viewed as a journey and a goal. This interview ripped open some pretty deep and vulnerable wounds surrounding being enough.” Erica wonders, “I’ve been married to my husband for nine years and together for fourteen. Even in the beginning of our relationship the sex wasn’t as frequent as I’d have liked, so I had to. Now we’re married and I feel like the sissue is in the different sex drives continues to bother me. I just need to need more sex than he does. He knows that I wish he’d initiate sex more, and we’ve gone to many years of therapy. I fear this will never get better. Is it foolish to think my husband could change? Is it possible for men to become more assertive or change how often they need sex? I’m afraid to get divorced as we have a seven year old son, but I think i’m coming to terms with the fact that this issue isn’t going away as I continue to resent not feeling desired.” Tune in to hear Jayson unpack these poignant questions from fellow listeners. - Relationship School Podcast Dec 20 · 24m AMA - Unresolved Conflicts, Sexual Desire Differences, Challenging Friends - Jayson & Ellen - 426Shavani asks, “Most times conflicts drain us of mental energy and time, even with both partners’ willingness to work through it. For me, conflict often takes hours of constant talking, fighting, and finally resolving. This is especially tough when work is involved that requires preparation and clarity. How do we work through conflict in a way that doesn’t impact other parts of our lives that are important for our personal growth and well-being?” Kim wonders, “Have you ever covered sexual frequency in a marriage? He wants it WAY more because that’s how he thinks of connection, and I don’t want it nearly enough because he won’t open up, let me in, and connect on a deeper emotional level, so there is a constant struggle.” Lilian is curious: “I have a dear friend that means well but always plays devil’s advocate when I come to her with a painful experience or when I need support. She says it’s because she’s a Libra. Where’s the line of calling your friend out on their B.S., and holding space for them with empathy in moments when they are experiencing pain?” Join Ellen and Jayson as they unpack listener questions regarding unresolved conflicts, sexual desire differences, and challenging friendships. Does that change over time? What can I do when I get triggered by his independence?” asks @twopopcorn. “Therapists always say, ‘You’re responsible for meeting your own needs’...How do you allow yourself to depend on someone and also not expect someone to give you what you need?” Jean is curious about. - Dependent, Independent, Interdependent - Jayson and Ellen - 423When you hear the word “dependency,” what does it conjure up for you? Feelings of resistance? Discomfort? Maybe a squirmy feeling? Or something more positive? Does it feel good for you to be needed? When we first emerge into the world as infants, we are 100% dependent on our caregiver(s) for all our physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, and relational needs. Our parents have been responsible for every one of our needs, day in and day out, for years. It is a biological imperative to attach to our caregiver (attachment figure), and it’s completely instinctual—it’s how a baby survives. Being someone’s attachment figure is incredibly demanding. Attachment science empirically speaks to the similarity between how a child attaches to a parent and how an adult attaches to their spouse, meaning our attachment figure changes from our parent to our significant other. However, your partner is not your caregiver… Contingent on your attachment style (anxious, avoidant, secure), it can become triggering to depend on or depend on someone else. Join Jayson and Ellen to better understand healthy and unhealthy dependency, normalize it, and even use our needs and dependence to deepen connection. - The #1 Reason Your Partner Won’t Do The Work - Jayson Gaddis - 421Do you find yourself in a relationship with someone who isn’t meeting you halfway? Are you curious to learn why your partner refuses to do their part of the work in the relationship? According to behavioral psychology, human beings are hedonistic. We prefer pleasure over pain, good over evil, comfortable over uncomfortable—even though it is through discomfort that we grow. If you listen to the podcast, I consider you a growth/developmental-oriented person. If a non-growth/developmental-oriented person stays in a relationship with you long enough, they inevitably will bump up against discomfort and will do one of three things: run, check out, or sabotage. Tune in to this short episode to learn more about avoidance tactics, the number one reason your partner resists change, and the role shame plays in this dynamic.
