Everyone. Thank you so much for being here for this extended interview. I am here today with cat, whose going to talk to us about how to build a personal brand. Hey, Cat. How are you? I got to be. Thank you so much for having me. Thank you for being here before we get to all of your amazing tips. And tricks, can you tell us about you and why you live in our feet? Like, I told my name is cat dog Carmen, you can find me anywhere at all garment, and I started my entrepreneurial journey by podcast. And here's the thing, a lot of people start a podcast and some people on business and people don't. But I didn't know exactly what journey I was about to be on. But what it turned into was me building this brand and be known or the message of my podcast and building a personal brand that really had strong connection with my audience and that turned into a coaching business. It turned into me, waving my
Job, it turned into me having some insane successes in my first year of the podcast and it just makes my life. So this wild ride has led me to being an entrepreneur even when I didn't even know that was the goal, so tell us and walk us through creating this personal brand. How are you able to do this with your podcast? First thing I want to tell folks is that
best way to build your personal brand is by showing up Real showing up as yourself really, focusing on being authentic to your audience in whatever way shape or form. So, in terms of building a personal brand, the first thing I will say is you have to start sharing your values on some type of platform. So there's two different types of content, you can create short-form content or Longhorn content. I chose long-form content, which was my podcast, long-form, meaning there's a production behind, it takes a lot more time versus short-form content, which is like Instagram, Tik-Tok, still take some time, but it's not at the production level of a podcast or video or blog. So, picking a platform to share your message, whatever your message is is really the beginning of building.
Personal brand specially. If you want to build a personal brand, like on social media, and you eventually want to do something with it, shaking, a Content that will fit with your lifestyle. When I started, I was a mom to a seven-month-old. So I was really limited on what on time and what direction I can go. So podcasting was a perfect fit for me because I can do it at night when I was sleeping and I didn't have to look cute, right? Like I didn't have to put on makeup and create these videos. It really work for my lifestyle. So picking up a piece of content that you want to share your message is number one. And number two is crafting, your message, I have a program called show up real and literally all I do is help. My clients build their personal brand and we start by focusing on mindset and the reason we focus on mindset is if you want to be known online, or if you want to build something and maybe
I don't even know if you want to build or be no one for us, but, you know, you have things to stay and, you know, maybe you want to help people or whatever the case is, if that's you, you don't have to know the end Journey but you really should know your why you really should craft some type of mission statement or craft some type of just knowing you're why is important piece of us. When you're starting this journey of building your personal brand, there's going to be a lot of times you want to give up. Most likely, you're on this journey is not going to be all these when it's going to be a lot of learning. So when things are slow, and when you're not getting the results, you want focusing on why you started focusing on your community. Going to be what keeps me going. It's going to be what pill helps put, one foot in front of the other. So I think identifying your, why is so important and then getting really, really
Clear on who you're talking to, and who your audience is that alone? Like, if you can identify who your audiences, and I could share a little bit about how you can do that. If you can identify who you're talking to your message, will stick to them when they hear it. So that's kind of the beginning of building your personal brand, but we can go in deeper. Yeah, absolutely. Can you go deeper into that when you were talking about how to actually find your ideal audience with my audience? I had a moment when I was building my podcast where I was just talking and spreading the message, I said I had to stay and I really didn't know who I was talking to until I started really digging into the people that were listening. I started getting couple DM's here and I started to study my audience, I want to see my audience. It wasn't a huge audience.
It was a couple of people in the beginning and those couple people who would say absolutely anything about my contact or give me any feedback, started a really big into their pages. And also starting conversations is that if you want to identify your ideal audience, this is a little quick exercise. I'll make this quick a quick exercise that you can do at home right now. So number one, the first thing you want to do is think about why you want to start this journey. Try to put it into one or two sentences. I want to start this journey because I love writing and I feel like people need to be more creative. I'm making this up. Okay, great. Tell me who in your life, or don't tell me. Write this up, write down, who in your life, close your eyes really? Think about going your life, in your circle in your Wider, Circle can really benefit from what you want to do. Like who think of one person one or maybe two people tops think of
All right now that you've thought of them, write their name down and you can put a fake name, right? In Avatar name then you want to write down every single challenge that they have related to your topic. So if you are a writer and you want to inspire more Riders, what are the challenges of that person? You rewrote on maybe the challenges, they don't have, maybe the challenges, they feel like they're always in a creative, but maybe the challenge is that they, you know, don't whatever you can be so many things, right? Those challenges down and those challenges are actually content ideas, every single one. So one contact idea could be, hey, here's five times two or three tips to find time to write.
Four ways. I get out of a of a creative, all those challenges, become content ideas that you can share on your podcast in that longhorn concept or short-form content. I mentioned earlier. And once you really identify your audience as challenges, that's when your contact starts getting really sticky for them. Think about when the people that you love following the personal brands that you enjoy listening to, and following their content is likely very sticky because it makes sense to you. They're using the words that make sense to you. So, that's how you figure out who your ideal audiences and once, you know that, you keep listening and getting feedback from them, start conversations with them in DM, and learn more about why they resonate with your content, I love that. And that's really what you have to do, because a lot of people think that it just starts coming and also the big mistake is,
Just doing what you feel like doing right. Again. If it's a hobby, it's fine, but if you want to make this into a business, you have to really listen to what your ideal audience wants, because there has to be a balance with what you want and also what they want to hear from you and what they want to get. Otherwise it's not going to be a business that was so precious and if anyone is going to consume even an ounce of your content, like we have to take that for granted like, that's their time and it's a gift. They're giving us one more thing. I wanted to ask you, there's a lot of platforms right now, right? And a lot of people who want to start a business or Austin, really confused of which way, they should go, there's Instagram, there's Facebook, there's Tik Tok, there's YouTube, there's podcasters blogging,
How do you make sure that you are going into first the right platform? And then avoiding the over Wang because it seems like you have to be everywhere at any given time. How do you decide where to go in order to really focus? You have? This is such a great question. Here's what I recommend if you can do one long-form content in one short-form content anyone you want. So when when I say long for it, I mean Blog podcast or video and then the second one would be no tiktok or form would be Tik. Tok Instagram possibly Facebook, any of those like picking two of those. One of each is going to like, accelerate your gross if you show up consistently but if you can only pick one, here is what I asked. So I say this is a big heart, she was one and then you kill it. Eva expert at that one app and then re
Purpose. Contact as much as you can. If you can only show up on Tik Tok in the first three to six months of we or, you know, whatever you want to do, then show up with intention and show up consistently because you can grow a business off of one. You know, one platform. You can I've seen it before and it's absolutely possible. You just got to show up with a perfect. Thank you so much cat for sharing.
