Dr
I stumbled on the podcast recently (last few months), and really love it. I see my relationship with my husband in their ADHD/anxiety pairing and have found their discussions helpful in thinking about how I engage with my own partner. I also really enjoyed the episode on peri/menopause, as no one else seems to want to talk about it (doctors give the brush off). Finally, inspired by one of your episodes, I completed my own mishuggena? muskeegee? in January! Thanks for the inspiration!

1/10/23 Mismatch episode
Kim, I have been married 26 years. My husband is not a sharer like Penn. we used to fight about it early in our marriage. I wanted him to change but what I learned is he isn’t going to change. But he does try, let Penn said he is going to do. Just don’t be disappointed if he doesn’t do it. Sandy

Kim… Penn. I love your pod so much. This one really really resonated with me. I love how you both articulate complex relationship feelings and “stuff” so precisely. And you guys show us how to make a hard thing a little better with action. Hope your holidays are bright and wonderful. Love you guys.

A favorite couple
Y’all are one of my favorite couples. Incredibly respectful of each other. I listen to episodes even if the title doesn’t interest me the most because I always end up learning something and I always laugh a few times.

Holiday Marriage contract
Just listened to this podcast. Kim & Penn, I cried along with you. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability. I’m sure that wasn’t easy. I can relate to so many things in your marriage. Hearing it makes me feel “normal” in my marriage. I love the idea of the holiday marriage contract. I’m going to propose it to my husband. Can I have the PDF?? 🤣 Thanks for making me laugh, cry and everything in between. Happy Holidays! Melissa

Easy to root for you guys
You guys have a natural charm about you. My favorite episodes are when you are talking about your kids Lola and PC, the holidays, or your day-to-day life experiences. When you did the podcast about Penn’s dad passing, I felt honored to be a part of that raw vulnerability and heartfelt conversation and celebration of life. I also loved all your amazing race podcasts. Praying for you and hope you have a meaningful Christmas!

Episode 54
Just listened to this and loved the conversation with Sarah and Beth. I will now listen to their podcast also. Thanks for introducing us to them. Living in Kentucky it is cool to have that connection to them. Really enjoy your podcasts. I have watched y’all on YT for a few years now but started the podcast listening while you were on the Amazing Race and have kept listening. Keep up the great work. Sandy, Kentucky Krafter

Entertaining and fun
I’ve watched them on The Amazing Race and love how Penn and Kim balance each other out. I love how vulnerable Kim makes herself on the show being transparent about her anxiety. I love to hear how Penn supports her. I struggle with anxiety as well and would love to find a partner who can be as supportive. I honestly have not listened to very many episodes, however, from the ones I have listened to, I know that they can talk about serious topics while also keeping the conversation light and humorous. They are real people and very relatable.

Keeping it Real and Fun
Hi Kim and Penn! I love all of your entertainment platforms! I loved you guys before the pandemic, but your song parodies truly got me through the first few months of that craziness. This podcast is so fun to listen to. I love your banter and conversations about real topics on your mind. You have opened my eyes to different view points and I look forward to listening every week!

Refreshing!
I look forward to new episodes of this podcast every week. I am in the thick of little kid life and all that comes with it but my oldest is creeping into the big kid years. Sometimes the thought of what is next can make me uneasy. This podcast gives me reassurance that the next phase is going to be just as great (maybe better?!) than having babies and toddlers. I love hearing about all the things their family is able to do together and I especially appreciate the honesty about what marriage can be like when you’re raising kids. The way that they respect and honor each other, make time for their relationship outside of being Mom and Dad, the way they cheer each other on in their respective interests/hobbies and just their overall love for each other makes this one of my favorite things to listen to each week. Thank you Kim and Penn!

Just wanted to thank you guys on multiple counts… My family and I started watching your funny videos during the pandemic and they helped us laugh during a very uncertain time. We now follow your latest videos because they are so fun and spot on for so many topics. My husband and I read your book and loved it then I stumbled upon your podcast and it is my very favorite. I have learned and laughed and cried with you guys. Thank you for all that you do! Keep up the fantastic creativity and content!

Funny, Relatable, and Life Changing
I've been listening to the Holderness Family Podcast for 2 years now, and it is my favorite of all the podcasts I listen to. I find Kim and Penn's humor really entertaining and their honest life stories very relatable. They find excellent guests that always teach me something. I tune in to be entertained and leave having become a better, smarter person. What more could you want out of a podcast? Thank you, Kim and Penn! I am a better spouse, parent, and self because of your podcast.

Hi Kim and Penn Finally I’m not driving or listening to your podcast AND I’ve remembered to leave you a review! My wife has ADHD and we’ve decided I have “acquired” ADHD. Even though we have no children (but nieces and nephews) and may be a tich older (+10-15 years), we can always relate to your topics! Just like you find the time recording your episodes is a cherished time you share together weekly, we find the same for us as we listen to it together weekly! Thanks for introducing us to the Amazing Race! It took the two of you participating for us to finally watch and we love it and will keep watching. Can’t wait for your new game to be available! We’ll be first in line for ourselves and for our siblings. Thanks to you both for making each other better and helping us to make each of us better! Nancy & Flo

I think you’re speaking from my brain…
I just finished the “what ‘doing the best I can’ means” for a second time. I listened to it first with my high anxiety brain and then listened to it again with my husband and his adhd brain. Kim and Penn, thank you for continuing to record even after a tough fight. You hit on so many points that continue to come up for us even after 19 years together. The idea of spending time together without talking about work or the kids and assuming everyone has the best intentions really resounded with both of us. Thank you for bringing up these conversations to normalize it for us. I’m glad there are others that are going through similar trials during this time of life. You’ve helped me feel more understood and given us ways to communicate from the depths of our different brains. Keep on podcasting!

I have so enjoyed getting to know Penn and Kim through funny Facebook videos during the pandemic. The podcast has opened up a whole new side and i love and appreciate the honesty and openness you bring to it. How do you always know exactly what I need to hear?
Omg. I love you both, your videos, and this podcast. My husband has adhd and I have anxiety, so I really relate. As for your most recent episode… My kids are legal adults now and I wish I had heard of the parenting coach idea about 10 years ago. Such wise info! Why is it not in every parent handbook from kindergarten to graduating high school?!? As I’m listening, there are so many things that I will still be using as I talk with my now grown kids. THANK YOU!

Love these two!
I first became familiar with Kim and Penn through their hilarious videos and recently learned they have a podcast! I was so excited to listen and learn about their real lives. Even though I don’t have children, and this podcast is categorized as “parenting”, I still find Kim and Penn completely relatable and enjoy hearing their take on the wide-ranging topics they discuss. They are real, down to earth, funny and big-hearted in every episode.

I Dream About You Both!
I don’t mean to sound creepy. But you and Pen enter my dreams as if we are already friends. We fell in love with your sense of humor with your prep for meals video during Covid. After that it was your book and getting to learn about it each of you. I feel like I can better understand our 10 year old son who has ADHD and can’t hear us while is engaged in latest fascination. Our house is so insane papers, toys and his thoughts are everywhere. I wonder if this is a junior Penn. The icing of love fell for you when my husband and I learned of Penn’s love for tennis. We could so relate when you wrote in the book about going out for tennis and arriving home late. We were elated to learn about your announcement of being on the amazing Race. We watched every episode with so much hopes that you would go far. And yes you did go far!!!! We feel so connected with you even though we never have met. Maybe someday we will but for now you both are in my dreams.

Relatable on every level
Kim and Penn’s podcast hits home everytime. The commonalities are striking - I too am a former journalist who transitioned into running my own business. I have a high school sophomore and quell my anxiety with daily workouts like Kim. Penn’s story about how his tennis game turned from a fun release into a major stressor could have been written by me. It perfectly summed up what I could not express to my tennis teammates nor myself ! Their podcasts are always real and heartfelt , and I’m amazed at how much I’m educated on everything from ADHD to marriage tips. Thank you for everything you do - you are both making a huge difference for so many people . Pam in Charlotte

The episode: “I’m doing the best I can” hit home for me. Thank you for trusting us, your listeners to share your moment of vulnerability. I can only imagine how draining it can be to put that much of yourselves out on social media. But there was something so real and genuine as I listened to you two work though this topic. While you thank us for listening to your show, I want to thank you for giving us your real authentic selves week after week.

Disappointment makes you realize the good.
Kim and Penn. I have truly loved the podcast. I also loved your book. I purchased the audible version. I never watched an episode of Amazing Race until you talked about it on your podcast. I watched each episode with excitement. I am happy to say I am a fan. As I feel you guys are great people. I also listened in even when your political opinions differed from my own. Why? Because, I felt you did it so tastefully. As we all know is not an easy task to do. Then why 3 stars?? Well, you took a huge dive in episode 42. I honestly tried listening to it. Keeping my mind open. But when it came to the pushing of children getting the vaccine I had to turn it off before it ruined anymore of my admiration for you both. I get we are able to have differing opinions. But episode 42 was too far. I hope in the future you both choose to go back to tastefully sharing your political opinions sprinkled in here and there because I appreciate how you had shared it in the past. It is now hard to find somewhere that is free of political opinions. I hope to continue to enjoy your content minus episode 42.

Going back in time
I have watched the videos for awhile now, but I started listening to the podcast this year during my stupid mental health walk after I walk the kids to school. I ran out of recent content so i am going back in time and starting from the beginning. I love it so much! I appreciate the expert content mixed with the fun chit chats. Kim and Penn are so relatable; we are GenXers with younger kids (2 boys) me the introvert-former competitive dancer-from Raleigh-Chapel Hill Grad, husband the extreme extrovert-Gator Grad-would totally quit his day job if he could make it as a rock star. Thank you for making my walks more enjoyable and we appreciate the love you guys give to us as healthcare professionals. You also inspired us to help clear the lists for the teachers at our kids’ elementary school.

They top the relatability scale. I appreciate their honesty. They are good partners and parents, but they have their issues just like all of us. They are goofy, funny, but also can put on the serious hat. One would think that with their celebrity that they would be out of touch, but not so. They are inspiring. They mentioned people come up to them and chat like they know them. I too believe that strongly. They are the friends next door and I feel lucky to have them. (Awesome podcast!!)

Don’t change the podcast name!
I’ve been listening to your podcast and watching your videos since the beginning and I wanted to make a quick comment about something you said in a recent podcast episode (first of all I love you guys and your energy and I feel like I’m listening to friends each week! My husband and I have read your book and We love it!) you mentioned changing the name of the podcast because it’s ‘just’ Penn and Kim and not the ‘family’ doing the podcast. I see it a bit different, rather than the title ‘holderness family podcast’ being a description of who runs it, I see the word ‘family’ as an adjective describing the podcast, i.e’ a podcast about family topics. You regularly discuss your own couplehood, your parenting styles and goals and very often go over important things to think about as adult children to older parents (I 100% cried during Penns celebration of his fathers life! What a great example of a loving family dynamic!) So please don’t change the name! It still fits! You guys are awesome, thanks for giving us an hour of your lives each week! -Corinne

Heartwarming, wholesome and hysterical
Oh mylanta! I have been following Kim and Penn and their fun videos for years. Until the Amazing Race, I didn’t even know they had a podcast! And now… I am a Holder-holic. Each week, I look forward to the heartwarming stories, comical connections, and silly songs! One day, it might be a stimulating conversation with a space scientist, and another, a discussion about the devastation of losing a loved one, and sometimes it’s just silly talk about losing sports bottles and carpool. As a recovering extrovert, I relate both to Kim’s desire for solitude and Penn’s yearning for excitement and attention. Their commitment to each other is inspiring and I often wonder if I should start a faux podcast with my wife - if only to set aside an hour a week to talk interrupted! Peace, love and doing my best. Lighthearted depth
I have listened to 53 episodes to date (and watched all the fun videos more than once😊) and I love hearing how both of you value growth in all areas of your being. You talk about mental and emotional health and growth. You seem to cultivate learning in your home in beautiful ways. You promote healthy physical choices. You acknowledge the need for God’s help in all things. I love that I can listen and enjoy your conversations even when I do not 100% agree with all of your stances. In this cancel culture I appreciate the spaces where we can still have civil discourse. (Even if the response to the conversation is in my head 😂). Thank you for helping the world laugh out loud even as you delve into hard life topics like grief, marriage, and raising children. I apologize for taking so long to write a review. My family laughs at me as I quote the two of you as if we are friends. In my head I know we don’t know each other and we are not friends, but I like to imagine us discussing these topics over coffee or wine.

Family friendly?
While I have followed the Holderness family for several years I was shocked to learn Kim’s stance on the killing of innocent children. As a mother, I am called to protect life, like Penn echoed. Seems like the “self care” point of view has gone to the extreme when it condones the murder of innocent children. Choosing to end a viable baby’s life is not a privilege God grants to women. It’s a sick, twisted, and powerful money making industry acting under the ruse of offering a helpful service. There is nothing family friendly or compassionate about it. Please do some research on what happens to a baby during an abortion. I think you may reconsider your stance.

I first found this family back in 2013, I was in college when I saw their Christmas Jammies video. Super adorable! Fast forward to a few months ago, I stumbled upon their TikTok page and remembered them. I binged their videos and found their podcast and have been listening ever since. It’s so nice to see their family and marriage thriving. They seem like such a well rounded, genuine, nice family. I really enjoy their podcast. Now I’m married and have a little one on the way, I really enjoy their content about marriage and their family. Keep it up!

You two are the GOAT! I found your videos on YouTube during the pandemic. I work from home and since my wife passed away just before COVID, you help in keeping me sane. Thank You
Thank you Kim and Penn for bringing us a Podcast that brightens our days. You are frank and honest and funny. I loved watching you on The Amazing Race and was so happy when you won. Now I listen to your podcast every week and it just makes me happy. And Penn I love all your creative jingles like “would you rather” and “Kim’s Favorite Things”. Keep them coming.

Advocacy
Thank you so much for your recent episode on contacting your senators. For the first time in my life, at age 46, I contacted my elected officials (in Florida, IYKYK), and advocated for myself and my loved ones to be protected from senseless gun violence. Thank you Kim for giving me the courage! ❤️

Hi guys! Long time listener, first time reviewer. I’m listening to your podcast today, giving details to people about how to ask their senators to support gun control. Thank you for doing this! I think it’s awesome! WTG! Thanks for years of amazing podcasts! We are long time Amazing Race watchers too, loved seeing you guys there!

Love You guys!
Congratulations on the Amazing Race! I haven’t watched AR in years, but I was so excited to watch it when I saw an ad that you two would be on it. I have enjoyed many of your videos over the last couple years. My husband also knew who you were and watched AR with me and we were thrilled when you won. ❤️ I just wanted to say that I loved watching you interact with each other - always supportive and understanding and loving. It’s so obvious that you are each other’s best friends and a great example of what every marriage should be. And you’re funny which is always a plus. I am always sad when a season of a show ends and so I looked up to see if you had a podcast where I could relive a little bit of the Amazing Race with you and here I am! You guys are a fun listen, thanks for providing so much entertainment. 😉

Great, varied, and real
I love how real (over-used word, but it’s true here!) and open and honest Kim and Penn are about their lives. I came to the podcast for the Amazing Race recaps but stayed for the real honest topics and varied conversations. Thanks for taking us on your journey.

This is what you do!
“What would you say you do here?” This is what you do Penn and Kim…always something funny and uplifting and thought provoking and always right on time. I could write a novel with all the ways I identify but will keep it short-ish… Children the same age, NC home, UNC grad, oh and best of all, Christopher was OUR marriage coach back in the day and married us! Thanks for spreading the joy!!

I so look forward to this weekly dose of Penn and Kim! Thank you for being so real with us and authentic about your highs and lows - I can so relate! I recommend your podcast to everyone in my circle, because your kindness and insights and humor make me feel good about being a human. :) It sounds silly but I really think Inam a better partner and person because of listening to you two (and your audiobook…guys, if you like this podcast and haven’t listened to that yet, you must!)

A Must Listen
This couple has been such a ray of sunshine over the last few years. I started out just loving their song parodies, but have become a huge fan over the last few months. My six year old was recently diagnosed with ADHD and this podcast has helped me understand what she is going through. It has also reminded me of both the positive benefits of having ADHD and that she will be okay. Every episode on this topic has been like a big warm hug that has helped me tremendously since I also suffer from anxiety/depression. I appreciate both Penn and Kim’s openness and positivity when discussing mental health.

Is it cheesy to say long time fan, first time reviewer? 🤣🤣 So I have been loving all things Holderness for 5 ever and just found this podcast! I have a routine- that this podcast is officially a part of! See if the adult kiddos sent a text- Wordle and the 4 games of the morning, scroll to do the obligatory friend check and casually run into the Holderness humans for my daily shot. Mahalo nui for sharing your life, fears, passions and hearts. 🌺💕🌺💕

A bright spot in my week every time an episode drops
This podcast is simply amazing. Uplifting. Funny. Educational. Supportive. Helpful. Insightful. Just freaking awesome. I’ve listened to every episode but the one in supporting ADHD kids was life changing. As a veteran mom of 30 years, I am walking the ADHD diagnose process for the first time with my 4th of 5 kids. It’s a scary, difficult and emotional journey. Penn and Kim have done such great things to bring normalcy to ADHD which has helped me help my son. This particular episode gave me such great tips to make daily life less stressful for him and me. If you want a well rounded podcast that is worth your time and will better your life, this is it! Subscribe. Listen. Relisten. You will not regret it.

HolderYes!
I started watching the Holderness Family on YouTube and still love their hilarious content. What I’ve come to appreciate even more, though, is their relatability and vulnerability in discussing mental health. As someone who struggles with anxiety and is married to someone with ADHD, this means a lot to me. Kim and Penn are such warm and genuine people that, even though we’ve never met, I feel like I’m sitting down with good friends each week when I listen to their podcast!

Funny and relatable
I’ve been following Kim and Penn on Facebook for years now and really enjoyed their book. Our whole family absolutely loved watching them on The Amazing Race. Their podcast is sweet, funny, and very relatable. You were asking for feedback on your new segment ideas…I do like the topics, but I think the intro music to each segment could be shorter. Maybe just a few seconds or half as long as they are? Maybe I’m just inpatient though and want you to get on with the segments. 😂 Thank you for doing what you do you brighten my day!

The Home Edit podcast
This was a good one! My husband and I listened in the car and laughed because I’m a lot like Kim and he definitely has Penn traits! This is the first podcast we have both listened to together and it was good for him to hear both sides of the story. I think we will be listening together more often! Penn is honest about his habits and the part about “sabotaging” was a light bulb moment for both of us. I love how real and honest you guys are. Love the “thing I liked most this week segment” but the rest not as much (sorry). I like the “meat” of the podcast. Keep doing what you’re doing and thanks for adding useful, happy things to my week. Relatable, digestible, and actionable
I love your podcast! I read your book last fall and now my husband and I are reading it book study style, one chapter at a time, with a discussion afterwards, but found myself wanting more. This the podcast is perfect. Your series on mental health was just what I needed, my husband struggles with ADHD symptoms, and I have anxiety, but in our 13 years of marriage, we never addressed those from a “how does this impact our marriage and how we interact” standpoint until recently. Having another perspective and hearing that we aren’t alone in some of these challenges is so empowering. Thank you for your honesty, your tips, and your relatability. My marriage is stronger for it. 💗

Longtime fan, new to the podcasts
I’ve been a longtime fan of Kim and Penn’s funny (and highly relatable) videos but it was only after they went on the Amazing Race I truly went down the Holderness wormhole and discovered their podcast, their book, their blogs… They are so relatable and discuss everyday subjects that most families/couples deal with, and all the while you feel like you’re hanging out with friends. A plug for their book: listening to Kim describe what it was like to go through her parent’s divorce had me tearing up as I was driving to work. I went through a similar situation in college but hadn’t fully appreciated the impact it’s had on my marriage (pulling the rip cord!) until Kim shared her story, so thank you.

Enjoying knowing this couple better
I have seen your videos on Facebook for years now. Always enjoyed them, I think you all are so talented and funny and incredibly entertaining. I had no idea you had a podcast until recently. And when the Amazing Race started (my favorite reality show) I jumped off the couch yelling “I know those guys!!” as if I actually know you personally. My family and I were gunning for you the entire season. Have enjoyed all the recap episodes you’ve done and I’m going back to listen to older episodes as well. The ones with Ian Morgan Cron have been my favorites so far. Love what you all are doing, how honest you are about your struggles and therapy and everything. My brother has been doing a similar thing in his professional life about being vulnerable with people and how important that is so your podcast has really resonated with me. Thank you.

10 out of 10 recommended this podcast. Started watching the amazing race with boyfriend, so that we could have one show to watch together. It had been my dream to be on the Amazing race. At first I was unsure of holderness family YouTube. Because of cause they showed there cheesy view “Christmas Jammie’s” as there intro on the race. But as I continue to watch more video’s see then on the race! I felt in love and every week I cheer more and more they would win. So glad they took 1st place, because I knew if they won the money, I knew they would use for impacting world. Invest your child further that can change the further, as well I know they big plan of investment that have a feeling change a lot of things for people. But Kim and pan thank you for honesty on this podcast. I am in a new relationship and I love real and open y’all are about your relationship. It has help me and my boyfriend grow so much. I have ADHD and my boyfriend has anxiety. He very Kim and I am very much like pen. Please continue everything y’all do. Also please make “I’m doing the best I can” socks and please re-stock “I’m doing the best I can” sweaters. I say it all the time and it a key phrase in everything I do. I now assume that everyone all the time is doing the best they can, where ever I go and it has Deescalate many situations in my relationships and even at my job! Bless y’all and if your new please listen up. They got good things to say!

I started listening to this podcast for the first time to hear Kim & Penn’s Amazing Race recaps. Every week I hoped they wouldn’t be eliminated so I could keep hearing their behind-the-scenes perspective all season. It added another element to the show and I cried during the finale! Now that the season is over I’m definitely going to keep listening because I love how Kim and Penn communicate, support each other, and make me laugh. They inspire me and I feel like I can learn a lot from them when it comes to marriage, parenting and dealing with mental health. Keep up the great work!

Kim- You are good enough🤗
Kim: “Feelings are exhausting” YES! THIS! I listened to Part 2 on my way to my therapy appointment today (1/19/22). It also happens to be the 6 month anniversary of my mother’s death- she was 70. She died by suicide July 19, 2021. And then,December 19, 2021 my mother in law died..not kidding! She had not been well for a long time and I knew her time to continue on another journey was sooner than later..I was prepared. However, I dove into funeral prep/planning/execution along with logistics of the holidays. I pushed the feelings down and away. Until last night. I was home alone up in my oldest daughter’s room (my girls had trickled back to college between January 6 and 18 and my husband is away on business) stripping her bed. Pictures of my parents and my daughter Rielly caught my eye…the peacefulness and calmness of being home alone with no distractions was suddenly a gateway to FEELING. I cried and honored feeling sad for the loss of my mother, the sadness and trapped feelings she has had for years with depression..I felt it all. I have a ways to go. And that’s ok. Thank you Kim for sharing your vulnerability in today’s Part 2 podcast. I’m learning at age 51 that being vulnerable is brave, necessary, and a key component to feeling and healing. You are good enough- every day. Be well. -Kim Malz, a friend and fan in CT

Agree with Akbar!
I teach preschool and am in complete agreement with Akbar about the problem in our education system. Even at this level we push the academics and the social and emotional needs of children seem to get put on the back burner. I think we force children to grow up too fast and don’t always let them enjoy being kids. With Covid, it’s really heartbreaking for me to think about these little ones who don’t know a world without wearing masks and not being able to read people’s faces. God bless Akbar and Sheri for what they have been doing to make a difference for their students and community. Loving the podcast! It’s nice to learn about the people behind the “Internet personalities”.

Now I Understand
Me: Organized, anxious, keeps the family running smoothly, responsible, on time. Me before this podcast: Why did my partner leave the car door open all night? Wait - is that a grocery bag still in the trunk? What’s that smell? My partner said he was done raking the leaves - why is the rake still in the yard? Why’s the hose there? Is the water running out the hose?!?? What?? That’s not being done with the raking! Hey, it’s time to go. He said he’d be down in 5 minutes. Why did I just go upstairs and find him an hour later playing chess on his phone? My partner is a math professor, why does the passing of time seem to stump him? He can’t have ADHD, he just spent 3 hours single-mindedly putting an incredibly complex pattern onto a gigantic Rubik’s cube. Me after this podcast: Oooohhhhhhhhh. I adore your podcast not only because it’s engaging and funny and fun, but also Penn talking about his ADHD and Kim talking about how she navigates it helps SO MUCH. I now understand so much more than I used to and can appreciate the superpower aspects of ADHD as well as understand that my partner isn’t being a jerk, his brain is just doing what it does. Thank you!

New listener from KY y’all!
I had seen videos on Facebook that made me laugh (Costco membership, Peloton ownership) when different friends shared them so I had started following you. We are long time watchers of Amazing Race so I was excited to see you all were going to be on because I find y’all very relatable to my husband and I. I saw your podcast about episode 1 of the race pop up and decided to take a listen though I’ve not listened to a lot of podcasts. It is fantastic! I love getting some behind the scenes information and hearing how it played out for real vs how they made it look on tv. I listen weekly to the new race podcast but then I had a 6 hour drive to make alone and figured I would give the other ones a shot! Thank you for making my drive seem so much shorter! Y’all are funny and so real! Keep doing amazing things! Can’t wait to see how the race plays out!

Penn & Kim really are the best
The relationship podcasts that you post are just the most helpful. At first one might think, “oh these two just have everything together and never have problems or issues.” Upon listening closer you can tell that the two of you are a real couple, real people, a real family that can relate to so many of us. You’re clearly very much still in love after like 16 years, and that’s amazing. #relationshipgoals What makes you so wonderful is that you let us into your real lives and share how you’ve learned and grown. You bring Chris into the show and he is fantastic as well. You’ve done your research and your work has paid off! Thank you for bringing us this content in such a familial and heartwarming (and of course funny, Penn) way.

A little bit of everything
Funny, silly, serious, thoughtful, helpful, relatable … The Holderness podcast (and blog and Facebook post and Instagram posts) have a little bit of everything. I started as a fan of the FB posts, then started listening to the Podcast and now am a virtual cheerleader for them in the Amazing Race. I’m blown away at the creative (and spot on) approach to “stuff” in life, relationships and parenting. Thanks guys for what I know takes a lot of effort to put out there. Take care!

Big fans!
Big fans of your family from back in the swagger wagon days - I subscribed to videos and like you on FB but didn’t realize you had a podcast until Amazing Race - this is my quality time with my 14yo. Ep 1 when I said I knew who you were - he got on board with rooting for you (and he loves Dusty and Ryan ). THANK YOU! You are part of me bonding with my 14yo son and we’re enjoying your wrap up podcast together as well - of course now I’m subscribed and listening to the other stuff too- can def use the marriage support!

Luv you guys!!
Hi Holdernesses! I just wanted to drop you a line and say thanks for the positive vibes and great energy and giggles over the past couple of years. I am a singleton, living outside of Chicago. My kids are furry ones. So not your Normal demographic I suppose. But you seem like the neighbors I would want to hang out with and you’ve added some good juju to a rough period in history when I’ve needed to actively seek out positive things to keep myself sane. Thanks for your contributions to that journey (+ my sanity) and keep up the good work!

You two are such a breath of fresh air!
I’ve been following your youtube videos since COVID started and sharing with all my friends as well. In a time of so much negativity and mud-slinging, it was such a blessing to find you and your kids. You are doing such a great job of teaching your kids to be kind, respectful and how to share joy with others. You also encourage your kids to be kids and let their hair down (like Mom and Dad). Your joyful and loving family is an inspiration. I especially love how much you two love each other. I just discovered you again on The Amazing Race and how you comport yourselves as you interact with the other racers (and each other) and it totally solidified my admiration and respect for both of you. I wish you all the best on the rest of the raceand will be glued to your podcast from now on! And remember - you are never too old to have fun. Stay young, my friends. Growing old is inevitable, but maturity is optional!

It’s ridiculous…
…how much I love these two people that I’ve never met. I have been casually following Kim and Penn since the Christmas jammies video approximately one hundred years ago, but it wasn’t until I upped my social media scrolling during the pandemic that I started to actively see more of their content. My palms get sweaty watching them on The Amazing Race each week, and I’m devouring old podcast episodes while I wait for new ones. This isn’t a minor obsession at this point. These guys are the real deal, and it’s a total bucket list item to meet them (even virtually). Five stars. Two thumbs. And side parts forever.

In addition to the content, my favorite things about this podcast are (1) the creative unique introduction songs and (2) the fact that each episode is numbered sequentially in the episode title. Coincidentally, these two points match Penn and Kim’s personalities: creative (Penn) and structured (Kim). I started listening to this show because of the Christmas Jammie songs, and each week I laugh and learn.

Thankful Listener!
Thank you so much for your podcast- so real and refreshing! And I can’t wait for the Amazing Race additions! I’m a pediatrician, mom of high school and college-aged daughters, and a wife. Life is crazy busy but over these last two crazy and difficult years, your videos, book, and now podcasts have been a breath of fresh air. My daughter also has ADHD and is thriving in film school- also amazing seeing how Penn uses his ADHD as an asset. I try to help my patients everyday see the gift of ADHD along with the challenges. Thank you, and I’ll be cheering each week for you both on the Amazing Race!

Always loved your videos so I listened to your audiobook. (The BEST way to do it since you two added lots of color and editorial comments). Bought the paperback, because I want to refer to your helpful boxes in the future. And now, a podcast? Yes, please! Loving these too. You are funny. You are vulnerable and share so much of your relatable personal experiences. You have great insights that make me evaluate my own thoughts and actions. I can absolutely say you two have helped me be a better person for myself and others. Thanks from the heart. ❤️

Getting harder to listen to
I’ve been a fan of the podcast since it started, and I love the content. It’s just getting harder to listen to when Kim takes over too much, talks over Penn and is somewhat condescending toward him. Both Penn and Kim have something special to bring to the table, and I understand they have their different roles and personalities, but it’s shifting a bit. Seems more attention is paid to Kim, and I like the 50/50 banter it used to have. At the end of the most recent episode about The Amazing Race, Penn is talking and Kim not only interrupted him but also spoke above him and it was a tug of war of who gets to be heard. It’s frustrating to listen to.

A MUST LISTEN
This is an absolute must listen podcast. Kim and Penn’s insightful approach to parenting, life and just being a great human is exactly what this world needs. Thanks for keeping it real!
Each week I look forward to this podcast for a couple of reasons! 1. Kim and Penn TAKE the time to start each episode talking to the listener and not playing the same prerecorded greeting. I listen to several podcasts and I really appreciate they don’t play the same boring intro! THANK YOU! 2. I like the encouragement they offer to each other and simple suggestions to lift me up so I can pass it on to those around me. In the latest episode they talked about gratitude. As a teacher I try to practice gratitude several times throughout the day and writing my daily 5 each night before I go to bed. In the worst moments it is good to take the time as look for the good around us. Today’s take away is to make sure I am taking more time to verbally appreciate and affirm all the great things my husband does for me each day. This podcast keeps me thinking and also moving on to better days! Thank again for keeping the discussions real!

Christmas stress
Holdernesses The Christmas stress is real at our house. My wife and I are both teachers so it’s end of the year grading, calling parents , chasing kids for work. A time my wife and I love seems to skip by in stress and paperwork. Kids have only added. On top of all that my wife’s bday is Dec 27. Making magic for our four and one year old is important to us but yet another iron in the fire. We will take the gratitude idea into this time of stress this year and continue to stumble forward in our own story. Keep it up!

I Love this Podcast
I look forward to this podcast each week. Having 7 and 9 year old girls, it’s easy for my husband and I to get caught up in the everyday rat-race and forget to cultivate our marriage. Kim and Penn remind me that marriage is the backbone of a family and also confirm that marriage is hard but worth fighting for. I have been married 11 years this December and wish I would have had their book and podcast 12 years ago. Thank you Penn and Kim. ❤️

I’ve just discovered this podcast after being a long time fan of your videos and I’m just now catching up from the very beginning (because if I don’t listen in order my brain will explode) but seriously, I just finished listening to the How to Cope with Anxiety in Children episode and I just felt I needed to thank you for it. It’s recently come up in my own family with my daughter and this has just given me so much hope. All of your episodes so far have spoken to me and made me feel so much less alone in the things I’m feeling. I’m so thankful for all that you’re doing. This is is such a blessing to find a podcast that balances entertainment, wellness, therapy, family and so much more. You’re a dream team and i wish you all the best! God bless you and your family!

First podcast I’ve truly enjoyed
Hi all! So I’ve never reviewed a podcast before because I’ve never truly liked one. Other podcasts always talk about negative awful things at some point or another and with someone who struggles from massive amount of anxiety and depression I can’t hang. Your podcast is so great and real without being nasty or controversial. I truly love it. I’m not a mom so I can’t related there but I am someone who is with a man I love and struggles with the same things Kim does (anxiety & depression). So it hits me pretty deep sometimes. Just finished season one today! Please keep going!

Can’t. Stop. Listening!!!
I’ve been on a Holderness-Family-Podcast-listening-marathon ever since I discovered it a few months back. It’s so good that I started from S1E1 and am now finally in the middle of 2020. I’ve very rarely—maybe even never—have done that before with other podcasts. I’ve laughed and cried and mused as I listened while washing dishes/swiffering the floor/folding laundry/prepping dinner. I love how Kim and Penn are genuine, wholesome, humble, respectable...and just real. I feel many of our values align and I identify with them in many ways. Many times, I end an episode sighing and wishing, man, I wish there were more people like them on this earth...and highlighted on various media platforms. I love, Love, LOVE the the content and I’ve shared it with so many of my friends and am hoping they’re not tired of me telling them to please listen to these and that they would just listen because I just know they would benefit so much and just become better and better informed humans. Anyway, I can’t say enough good things about this podcast so I just need to end this review here.

Walking Buddy
I love waking up at 5:30 am, to walk with Kim and Penn on my iPhone ear buds! I walk with an 100 lbs Airedale - Buddy. I think you guys should do an episode of strategic “passive aggressive” action. Example, husband was not helping pack the house up, to put into storage while new house was being built. So when I loaded the storage units, his golf clubs went in first. I refused to tell him where they were. So he had to unpack all three units to find them. Since he did not load them, he didn’t know which one had them in it! May seem evil, but when you work your tail off, golf is the last thing on my mind!!!!

Thanks so much for doing this hard thing of exposing your emotional selves and your marriage. My husband and I have a great marriage, but there’s always room for improvement- and communication is top of the list. I really related to what I call being “a sucker for a suggestion.” This has to do with feeling a wash of whatever I am exposing myself to like shows and people I choose to spend time with. Call me a bass......I’m hooked!
These two are amazing. I’ve been a follower on Facebook for quite sometime. Only recently did I begin listening to these podcasts at work( I promise I’m still getting work done!). It does cause me to randomly laugh out loud....sometimes catching the eye of someone diligently working on a project! But oh well.....happiness is healthy. So, to cut to the chase....Kim and Penn are genuine, fun, relatable and witty. I am constantly laughing at their topics as they are so very on point with my life.....and my relationship. The guests are great. The material is priceless. During Covid.... it has been tough for me. My fiancé is a small business owner, and this is very hard in her....she is stressed every day.....and I do my best to be her rock. On my end, my daughter is 8 years old....she is from my last relationship....I have not been able to see her for months now....as someone in her moms house is an at risk person. We FaceTime and zoom often.....but I don’t get the hugs and kisses. It has broken me. This show gives me an escape. It brings out my happiness and joy....that has been covered up lately. For 45 minutes at a time....I find peace. I find laughter. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I feel like you are an important piece of my life.....and my families.

Binge Listening!
There are mostly funny relatable things but I have also taken some notes on the advice from Kim and Penn and from Christopher, their marriage counselor. I don’t love or get all the videos and content but that doesn’t mean they should get a lesser review. Very relatable. I’m in my 30’s and things is perfect for this age group. It’s nice not to hear one voice all the time. I did get a little annoyed when they started putting ads but this is free and it pays their bills. I just use the skip 30 seconds button. :) I hope they can continue this because it makes my time on the road much easier.

Just plain nice!
We need more people like Kim and Penn in the world. They just seem nice. Not cynical, not mean, not outraged (in a world that seems full of outraged people). It’s enjoyable listening to them and hearing their take on a diverse range of topics. Apparently this is a parenting podcast but I don’t have kids (and am well past the age where that’s a possibility) and I enjoy it. I love their silly videos too but I can see why the podcast is their favorite thing.

Such a great podcast!
I don’t remember how I first came across your terrific family videos but I am so glad I did! They eventually led me to your podcast and I look forward to listening to it whenever I can. I find the content and the two of you incredibly relatable, your dynamic together is both hilarious and sweet, and after I listen I usually feel inspired and left with a couple of practical ideas I can try applying to my own life. One particular example is when I listened to the podcast recently that was led by Penn about being happy/optimistic and as soon as it finished I called two friends to tell them about it. It left such an impression on me and I have implemented parts of it with myself and my children. You two (and your team) do an incredible job! Thank you for this great podcast!

Authentically Relatable , Honest, and Fun
I’ve always enjoyed the videos the Holderness family puts out on FB, but one of my fave parts of those videos is always the end where they’re chatting and being funny with each other. They are an authentic and relatable couple who are honest, real, and fun. It’s so enjoyable to listen to them chat about things we can all relate to!

Relatable and down to earth
I discovered the Holderness family on Facebook either right before or right after New Year 2020. In the past 4-6 weeks, I have been bingeing the podcast. I love this podcast because Penn and Kim are so relatable. They talk about timely and important topics as well as having fantastic guests. Since listening to this podcast, I’ve learned new things about marriage, relationships, families, kids, sex, and mental health. I am grateful for all the information they bring to the table and are open enough as people to discuss these sometimes personal topics with their audience.

Heard the How to Stay Positive episode. Penn and Kim have fun show! The right combination of being real (without the profanity or darkness) with levity and fun. Everyone who has a family can relate and get something out of their shows. Entertaining!

Very entertaining while giving a lot of useful information. Absolute worth starting from the very beginning. Love the guest appearances! The way they open up about their lives, share their struggles and ask for input makes the listener feel connected like family friends chillin’ out in the backyard, talking and supporting each other. All the topic are so relatable and in some instances has had an immediate positive impact in my relationship with my family. Keep it up! I wish you all the best success!

Running partner
Hello from Maryland! I listen to your podcasts when I run. My neighbors probably think I’m crazy as I run around laughing and smiling because of things you say. I have four children who are all at home virtually learning and so running is my sanity… And so is your podcast. All the best to you both. Oh, and the peach butt you referred to is a water tower. We used to live in Georgia and have travelled 95 A LOT!

I recently started listening to your podcast after enjoying your fun videos and insightful blog posts via Facebook. This past weekend, I listened to the Jen Hatmaker interview and the ally discussion, both from earlier this summer. You are my people! I felt like we were all together in mind and spirit. I’ve watched your videos on FB over the last couple years and enjoyed them. A couple of your latest ones- the Hair bands quarantine one and the Watermelon Sugar school decisions one are hilarious and so relatable! My husband and I have watched and listened to them over and over. So good! I actually think you guys are fairly similar to my husband and I- except we have no musical talent 😂. I watch your videos and think- we could be friends! I’ve never been into podcasts much but we are on a 20 hr family road trip with our 4 crazy kids (9,7,4,2) and I downloaded a few to pass the time. I’ve enjoyed them a lot more than I thought I would! Thanks!

Can’t do this anymore
Used to really enjoy this podcast. It was different from the norm but I just can’t anymore. The stuff they are spewing now I just can’t get on board with, very political, etc etc. If they really are Christian at all they need to open up their Bible and actually comprehend what they are reading.

This podcast is super eye opening for me and I love it!
This podcast is great! I love how honest you are! You don’t really stage them, and you argue openly. It makes it feel genuine and not so perfect and planned. Penn, you are so funny, but you also have some great tips. I liked what you said about Dale (did I spell that right?) and you with sibling relationships. I have a sibling who is nine years older than me and it is interesting to hear what it is like to have a sibling close to your age. Kim, I love how incredibly open you are. It shines a light on some of my problems and how to fix them. I like how you talk about getting help openly, because it helps me personally feel better about my own therapy and what they are doing for me. I am a teen/tween girl and would like podcasts geared more toward kids, like the kid side of some podcasts, like the helicopter parent one. This has also been really eye opening to me because I’m on the kid side and this is a glimpse into what my parents are feeling and going through. Thank you for that. I love your music soooooooooooo (x1000) much! I would really appreciate it if you would upload more to iTunes or Amazon Music (Unlimited or no). It is so awesome and I want to listen without internet! I know that you guys don’t think that anyone listens, but news flash: I have never once not made it the end. I always wait for gold advice at the end. -Chocojimmies =) PS I’m subscribed.

Just another reason to ❤️ you!
This was the drink of cold water that I needed after two months of thirst. Right on the money to talk about feelings, giving voice to everything I’ve been pushing down in the name of being functional. Penn, you hit the nail on the head when you said that we are NOT all in this together, because we are not all the same. Thank you, Holderness Family and Em, for seeing the same reality I see. I feel like I’m able to finally move forward. :)

I love this podcast so much. I have listened to all of the episodes at least twice, maybe three times! I love the content, and I would give it a five star review even if it meant I had to eat brussel sprouts for a year! (I hate brussel sprouts!) I love how Penn is funny and entertaining, and how Kim gets to the point and stops the conversation from derailing. My personal favorite is Penn, but Kim does have some ups as well. Please continue this amazing podcast, and I will always support it. Also, I feel you Penn during this "PENN-demic." Go Holderness!! P.S. You should have your kids on the show during this crazy season and ask them how they are feeling!

Thank you from a Special Needs Mom!!!
I followed from Facebook and I saw the title of the most recent episode about parents of children with special needs. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I am a 26 year old single mom. I have a 6 year old son with special needs and a 2 year old daughter and we also lives in North Carolina. Listening to this made me feel awesome because I’m not alone. Everything y’all said, I was actually answering out loud. Yes, I’m exhausted. Yes, I stepped up because I didn’t have a choice not to. I appreciate so much that you are being awareness to this. And I’ll admit that I had never thought of some of the things discussed even though I hear these things on a daily basis. I feel so alone most of the time. So incredibly alone and like no one understands what I am dealing with. Especially the siblings! It is so hard trying to parent 2 children that have different rules and consequences because my son has special needs. And my 2 year old doesn’t understand because she isn’t old enough and she picks up on what her brother does. Thank you for giving me strength from just listening to this.

My favorite podcast!
I very much enjoy listening to Penn & Kim share the reality of marriage & family! The vulnerability with which they share their lives- both victories & not yet successes make them totally relatable. Penn is a refreshing example of a modern husband. It’s incredibly obvious to any listener that he adores his wife and kids. He is fantastically creative & witty although he often doesn’t give himself the credit he deserves. It is that very humility that makes me enjoy listening to him. Kim is the wife & mom we all wish we could be! She strives for self-improvement and shares those experiences with the listener! She shares what works and what doesn’t in marriage, parenting, health, business, life & much more. After years of watching this family make entertaining “cheesy” (their word- not mine) videos I have truly enjoyed getting to know the Holderness family in a deeper real way. I would love to hear from Kim’s mom more often ( maybe she could start her own podcast)! The only complaint I have is I wish they produced more than one episode a week! But I so look forward to the new topic each week & with the plethora of options for podcast listening they are always my first choice! Thanks Penn & Kim - you two rock!

Love this podcast! I’m a true crime junkie, but my military husband is gone a lot and then they make me...nervous. So I need less murdery podcasts that I listen to when he’s gone. Is it possible to have a celebrity crush on a whole family? Yes?! Good. Then the Holdernai are my crush. They are real, relatable, funny, and heartwarming. Their guests are thought-provoking and knowledgeable, and they have conversations about complex, emotional, hard topics, using everyday language that make us regular folks understand these topics more fully and give us concrete tools to use with our families. I have laughed, cried and nodded my head a lot while listening in my car. Thanks for the love you share with us every week!

Just stumbled across the Holderness Family on the social medias and I’m so glad they did. Their discussions — especially, for me, on marriaging — are real, honest and really helpful. The only podcast I listen to..!
Penn and Kim.. your podcasts are not only enlightening.. but they’re also fun and a pleasure to listen to. They’re the only podcasts I listen to now..! It’s so bizarre, but I feel that in my own marriage, I’m more the ‘Penn’ in the relationship (being the human golden retriever), and my husband is more like ‘Kim’. I wish I had Penn’s sense of humor though.. it would’ve saved us a lot of dragging fights where I could get out of it with a joke or two.. lol. Please keep them coming.. but also, please have a few podcasts about how to resolve fights, how not to hold grudges and how create calm dynamics between the couple. Thank you for your openness, insights, sense of humor.. and above all, your songs..! Lots of love ❤️ The girl version of Penn 😂

The Real Deal
Funny & Relatable! Thank you for being so raw & transparent in a culture that appears perfect & too prideful to ask for help. The battles of Ego & Shame are weekly thrown out the window as you discuss Parenting & “Marriaging” (great word choice!). I’m a sucker for love & an advocate for successful marriages. You help us understand what kind of work is involved, actionable steps, & let us all know we are not alone in our struggles. The world needs the Holderni (I loved that Kim’s mom calls them that). Keep up the great work!

Great, but it could be so much better
I really want to give this five stars but the way Kim interacts with Penn brings it down a notch. The interruptions, saying he “brings the funny” and that he’s sort of “ADHD,” and “OK sweetie I’ll let you have a Penn Day,” is just so patronizing and it makes the show hard to stomach at times. We don’t need “two Alphas” running the show (as was said on the most recent episode) but we do need co-hosts who are mutually respectful. I love both of your perspectives, and both should be valued. Most podcasts I listen to have two hosts and they’re always respectful towards each other and the value they bring to the show. Penn doesn’t just “bring the funny”; he brings a valuable father’s perspective on family life and that’s what pulls men in.

Kim and Penn deliver a great concise podcast. No 30 min intro, then short content. They have a short intro, great well thought content and guest that are eye opening and fun. Kim and Penn are very conscious of making sure they do not offend listeners with unwanted political or religious views. This is not that kind of podcast and they know it. This is two married people fumbling through marriage and middle parenthood together bringing in experts to help them out. My absolute favorite.

Penn you are loved just as much as Kim
In case you didn’t see my comment on your Instagram I will repeat it. I love your guys podcast. Penn you have great insight, I love hearing from you just as much as I love hearing Kim’s thoughts. Your podcast each week is highlight of my week. It helps be become a better version of myself. Which then makes me better wife and mother. Thank you both and your kids for the goodness and laughter you are putting out on social media.

Kim AND PENN ( he always says all the glowing reviews are about her), you guys are awesome!! Love listening while out on my walks each day. Can relate to you guys in every way and Penn’s humor and Kim’s love of Penn’s humor (and Penn) is so uplifting! It’s so nice to listen to another family having the same struggles and/or insecurities as we all have as well as the triumphs and laughter! And I live in the triangle area as well, so it’s fun to listen to hometown peeps! The struggle is real y’all, so thanks for keeping me laughing thru it all! Christy A.

Dear Kim and Penn
It’s August 13 2019 when I am writing this and I would like to ask for some advice. My dad is really really harsh and makes me feel like a failure sometimes. It’s all just words and nothing to serious but sometimes words cut deeper than anything else. My podcast is called The Great How and you can find it on iTunes, please send your answer as a review if you can. I understand that you are very busy people but I also know that you are extremely kind. Sincerely Luke Christy age 11 In Colorado.

You both rock!!
Your podcast is one of the two that are must listens every week - you make me laugh AND think! My son is a high school senior so we’ve survived many of the things are you going through (hang in there - you are doing a GREAT job). And he has ADHD and we both run anxiety so your honesty is so refreshing. And Penn, you crack me up - just heard your ‘the struggle is real’ comment on this weeks episode - love the irreverence from both of you. Thanks for keeping it real!! ‘For the love’, Debra in San Francisco

Can’t get enough of the Holderness Family!
I have never been a “podcast person”...But I decided to give yours a try since I love everything else that you do. Now, instead of listening to music in the car, I am catching up in all your podcasts! You are both so entertaining and I find all your conversations so relevant. Keep doing what you’re doing!...despite what “Karen” says! 😂

Keeping it real
I’ve been a fan of the Holderness Family for years but only recently discovered the podcast. I’m enjoying getting caught up on past episodes - it’s the perfect listen for my morning walk, during chores or driving the “Mom Taxi”. I’ve struggled with staying interested in podcasts before but Penn and Kim always keep me entertained. Sharing their lives, lots of laughs and bringing on fun new people makes the show feel like a chat I’d have with my friends. So glad I found it and looking forward to many more!

Love how real you are
Love you guys love how real you are! I love the funny and seriousness of your podcast. You guys rock! 💕💕 Just listened to your podcast about parenting in the digital age (not sure if that’s the official title) and you have a lot of good advice. My daughter is 6 and don’t have a phone or a tablet yet but she will be there before I know it. The relay device sounds awesome and I’m totally getting one once my daughter is old enough to stay home alone. I love that idea!

Educational and entertaining
I've binged listened to the podcasts for about the last month and finally finished the most recent one. Penn and Kim are authentic and talk about the reality of parenting and the challenges of raising kids. I loved all the episodes and they bring it great guests. I'm an ADHD introvert so their stories and relationship struggles hit home with me.

Entertaining, real and interesting to listen to. When I need to clean house or do some mundane chore, I love to lose myself in a good podcast. This is my go-to podcast lately. I get a lot done while listening to these two who are so relatable.

Helpful and entertaining!
I’ve really enjoyed the YouTube videos for a while, so spot on with our family, but recently found the podcast and love it even more!! We have 3 kids, our oldest two are the same age/genders as yours and the advice and topics are so relevant! Just finished a road trip and binge listened with my husband, it was great - I’m hooked!

Lots ot discover here!
I'm proof you don't have to be married or have kids to love this podcast! I'm a 36-yr old, single guy with no kids, yet I love coming back to this podcast and benefitting from the transparency and life pro-tips by Kim and Penn. The "Truth Behind Criticism" episode immediately benefitted my working and personal relationships with more honest dialogue amongst colleagues and family. I highly suggest diving in.

Good parents trying to parent good.
I enjoy listening to these two (especially Penn) trying to figure out the best way to parent. Coming up agains many of the same obstacles we all do. Good to know we aren’t alone out there. Even get some surprise Dr. Phil visits. Keep up the good work.

Glad to find this
So yeah, you hooked me on FB with the goofy videos, but since I discovered the podcast, I feel like I have gotten to “know” you. I have totally stolen some of your material, and used it. The tech convo, the three “P’s”, used it THE DAY I heard it and it landed! Good to know you are just like us, and sometimes just “wing it” to parenting while sticking to basics. Keep up the great, informative, and funny material!

This Podcast is Amazing
I always enjoyed your videos, but when your podcast about sleeping in separate beds popped up I knew I had to listen to it. I love how the two of you are so honest and open with all things in your life. It’s refreshing to listen to people who are so real, and even though I’m not a mom you’ve given me so much to laugh about and think about. I’m going back to listen to all of the old episodes. Thank you for taking the time to share yourselves this way. 😁

Great convos
Loved it for the songs at the beginning. Kept going because they have great discussions! Miss the intro songs but definitely understand why it was a lot of work. My favorite episodes are the ones about relationships/day to day life and not about their traveling! My only criticism with the new episodes is the first 1.5-2 minutes is just clips of the show we are about to hear. A little repetitive and I usually just forward past the first two minutes. A 15 second intro is all we need, not 1.5 minutes of clips of a 45 minute episode!

Humor and help, all in one
Kim and Penn are down to earth, hilarious, and full of fun stories and good advice. They are super relatable, and they readily admit that they have no idea what they’re doing, which makes a new parent like me feel a whole lot better about myself.

- A Second Chance At ParentingApparently more people in their 40s get pregnant than I thought... This week, Penn and I talk about having to recently buy a pregnancy test and how that made us reflect on our parenting. We also hear from many of you what you would do differently with a second chance at parenting, and talk to our friends Taylor and Heidi Calmus. - The Gift of Swedish Death CleaningThere’s a lot of reasons we hold onto things, but one profound thing about that is: Everything that you own, owns a part of you. This week we talk with Kathryn Snearly, of the viral YouTube channel Do It On A Dime. Kathryn introduced me years ago to the idea of Swedish Death Cleaning. (And no, it’s not where you listen to death metal music while you organize.) If you’re in the stage of life where you are cleaning out items from a loved one who has passed and you feel overwhelmed, I hope you find comfort in this podcast. Kathryn discusses some of her own struggles with letting go of possessions from her loved ones and tips to help. We also talk about the two very different outlooks on clutter, writing your own "death wishes" document, and Midwest dialects. Take a listen to our discussion, and tell us if you feel inspired. - The Holderness Family Podcast Mar 7 · 43m Forced Family FunIn our family, Kim does most of the planning… groceries, kid schedules, house maintenance... so when it comes to family vacations, Kim deserves a break. So I planned our recent family vacation to Chamonix, France. We have talked about how we really loved our time on The Amazing Race, because it got us out of our comfort zone and took away all our distractions. So in that same vein, I wanted to plan an experience for my kids that was out of our comfort zone, free of distractions, and most importantly, that we would do together. We talk all about our vacation of forced family fun and how some of the tips we have are backed by actual science. (Plot twist!) Be part of the next chapter of our game, Family Faceoff! - Forgiveness, ADHD, & Fishbowl BrainIf you want a master class in forgiveness, marry someone with ADHD. While I am the queen of holding a grudge, Penn couldn’t be more opposite. On this podcast, we discuss the connection between ADHD and forgiveness with Dr. Marcy Caldwell. Her gift for metaphor is something that resonates with Penn understanding his own brain. My favorite is her explanation around the ADHD brain being like a fishbowl, as well as some of the not so great things about ADHD and toxic relationships. In the end, it's probably good that Penn and I are yings to each other's yangs. Be part of the next chapter of our game, Family Faceoff! - Navigating the Emotional Life of Teens with Dr. Lisa DamourThere is an adolescent mental health crisis going on in America right now. It’s so severe, in fact, the US Surgeon General issued a rare advisory on protecting youth mental health. Take an already emotional developmental time and couple it with a global pandemic… that’s a lot on teenagers. Dr. Lisa Damour explained that distress should not be your main worry as a parent of a teen. Distress is going to happen. Be part of the next chapter of our game, Family Faceoff! - We Don't Always Know What We're DoingI have a really hard time ever calling something a failure. For me, even if something doesn’t go as well as I had hoped, I always learn and grow from the situation, which, I think, is a good thing! If you are making a choice about something, it is totally okay to not know exactly what you are doing or how to do it because then you can learn and grow. Even if you feel like you aren’t succeeding in the way you thought, life has a way of teaching you things you can use later. Or maybe you will succeed more than you ever thought. - Is Everything Awesome? with Neil PasrichaAs someone who struggles with anxiety and depression where positivity is a conscious choice, I get a little skeptical about any advice on how to "magically be happier." This week, Penn was VERY excited to talk to our guest, while I had some hard questions. We had a great discussion with Neil Pasricha, a New York Times bestselling author of seven books, including his latest book Our Book of Awesome , who helped us understand how gratitude practices can help move the needle into a better outlook on life. In our discussion, I found out Neil and I had a lot more in common that I thought. (Stick around until the end for an actual blueprint for how to begin to put this into practice!) - We May Be A MismatchWhat a journey this podcast took us on. As you know, the new year always brings new hopes and dreams for me (Kim) and I will shout them from the rooftops. (If you don't put your dreams into the universe, how will it happen?!) Penn is the polar opposite. He has hopes and dreams, but prefers to keep them to himself as to not be a burden. They published "Christmas Jammies" in December 2013 and life hasn't been the same. Since then, their popular parodies, "All About That Baste", "Baby Got Class," and original music "Snow Day" have received national news coverage. Penn, the Dad, took a chance and left his job as a news anchor to join his wife Kim, the Mom, at their video production and digital marketing company, Greenroom Communications, LLC. Lola and Penn Charles are always happy, respectful and eat all of their vegetables (that last sentence is a lie). - How We Got In Shape For The Amazing RaceIn our mid-40s, we knew we’d be some of the older competitors on The Amazing Race - a famously grueling show in which teams of two travel the globe conquering physical (and sometimes mental and emotional) challenges. We wanted to be as ready as possible and in the next few weeks we’re going to be sharing some of our favorite workouts that can be done in a gym or at home. Even if you aren’t training for a grueling reality competition, these movements will help you feel more equipped to handle the challenges of everyday life. We interviewed Taylor Pope, DPT, FDNP, Owner of Chain Effect on this week's podcast to launch this blog series and here’s the headline: YOU CAN GET STRONGER AS YOU AGE. Statistically, yes, we’re at a disadvantage to gain strength and improve athletic performance with every time we circle the sun but IT CAN BE DONE. The team at Chain Effect crafted workouts that helped us get ready for every situation the Race threw at us. And now Chain Effect is sharing these workouts with you! - Teens Might Be Our FavoriteAs a new mom, I was secretly dreading the time when my kids were older and Christmas would somehow feel less special when the “magic” wore off. Well, it turns out, there’s lots and lots of things that make this time with teens so incredibly special and it’s with great relief, I can report that it may feel even more special because they get a hand in how we shape our family traditions. This week Penn and I talk about what we love about our teens, and we get to hear from some of you too! This is our last podcast of 2022 and it's been a crazy year. We wish you a happy holiday and want you to know how grateful we are for all of you. See you in 2023! Tell us what you like, ask a question, or just say hi. Call 323-364-3929. - Holiday Marriage ContractWe've talked in the past and in our book about secret contracts you have in relationships (i.e. - who always empties the dishwasher, who always makes the meal plan...) but it got us thinking... what about the holidays? We've always said "mature people ask for what they want." So this week we took those two ideas: talking about what we need for the holidays and making an agreement on who does what. Only this time, it's not a secret. Fair warning, there are a few tears but hopefully hearing our conversation helps someone. Tell us what you like, ask a question, or just say hi. Call 323-364-3929.
