Make the effort!
I like the podcast but I don’t understand why the hosts don’t make the effort to pronounce names correctly, especially when the first degree guest repeats it several times. Spokane is pronounced Spo-can, not Spo-cane. The guest must have said it correctly at least 10 times but the hosts continued to call it Spo-cane. Maddening!

Horrified
Compelled to write and review after listening to the latest episode on Nina Viktoria Hilt. The fact so much understanding and compassion is expressed for the mother Peggy rather than the two year old murdered child Nina is mind blowing. The national narrative on mental health was changing even back then such that Peggy had numerous avenues to deal with the situation in a better healthier manner for everyone involved from family therapy to antidepressants to getting Nina behavioral therapy if she really was having trouble adjusting to Peggy getting therapy rather than just chatting with fellow mothers. I’ve been stressed and frustrated and angry and done things I regret and apologize for. Eventually I did the responsible proactive thing and asked for help and things are better - not perfect, not “cured” - but definitely better. You know what I didn’t do? I didn’t beat a child to death, just like how the vast majority of folks don’t beat a child to death when in such a mental state. And the paraphrased quote at the end concerning determining if someone is evil based on the regularity of their wicked deeds!? Perhaps the severity of a wicked deed should be factored into the equation. Seriously reconsidering remaining subscribed to this podcast.

So confused right now
I have listened to your show for years but today’s show has me baffled. Why are you guys so understanding about this woman Peggy beating her baby?!? You have me screaming at my iPhone right now. She didn’t realize the vomiting was related to her beating. The f??

Insensitive true crime discussions
I never write reviews but its seriously how messed up these people are that I just had to let people know my experience. There is more discussion on how hot the murderer is and random topics where they cackle and laugh than actually information regarding the crime. When you claim to represent a first degree angle on a crime and then you talk like this about the crime, think about how the family of these victims feel when you talk like this. It’s absolutely disgusting, when I got to 3 episodes in a row where you were focusing on how big or small the murders penis was I had to stop listening and write this review. Seriously just be better human beings or switch topics for god sakes because this just doesn’t work when talking about such heinous crimes.

Love them!
I really love the episodes focused on the stories. I’m not as big of a fan of the extras like the Killing Time episodes, but that’s just my personal opinion. Everyone does a great job of showing empathy as they discuss cases. I just wish they’d stop the sponsorship with BetterHelp, since it’s not a reputable company and pay unlicensed, random people off the street as “licensed therapists”

I’m on the fence
I just recently discovered this podcast so I’ve only listened to the first few shows and a couple of the newer ones. The production is good, the topics are interesting but the banter between the ladies gets on my nerves. They try too hard with everything. I don’t need to know your personal opinions and experiences on EVERY topic. I like to know what happened and the sequence of events leading up to it what happened. Not countless personal side stories that include your stance on whatever the popular opinion is at the time, that by the way coincidentally coincide with whatever is cool at the time.

Love the content but . . . .
I have enjoyed listening to this podcast and the guests have been wonderful. The part that I struggle with is how silly, ignorant and egocentric the young women are in conversations. They are biased and make many comments about topics they obviously know nothing about. One of the young women said that people who take cruises are not people she would want to be with because they are not “her people”. This is very short-sighted and making broad generalizations about people is a slippery slope that often reveals prejudices. I find that when hosts don’t do their own research, the lack of commitment to the story shows. They both sound bored. By the way, “gedda” is not a word. The correct pronunciation is “get to”.

Subpar
I finally reached the end with this podcast. I started out by just not even listening to the Killing Time episodes because I wouldn't waste my time with it. Now it's just devolved into something that sounds like two high school girls going back and forth. This is in addition to them just reading dramatically between audio clips which is a format that I don't care for.

Great stories and hosts; too much unnecessary cursing.
First off, I am not trying to judge these ladies for using curse words. I believe their stories, delivery, and knowledge is excellent. I really enjoy listening to these ladies talk. However, some episodes have excessive amounts of cursing that seem to actually detract from the story. It seems as if they are trying to just use the F word just because… Many may disagree with me, and that is OK, but I believe this podcast could reach a much larger audience and keep that audience as subscribers if a little bit of that cursing was toned down. Just a thought. Otherwise, good job ladies.

Still miss Billy
This was may fav true crime podcast. I miss what Billy added to the mix. I miss that he had his own opinions. I’m not here to comment on his personal situation— just on what he brought to the podcast. The last couple episodes were “ehhh”, hoping it will get better as the holidays are now over. I really enjoy Alexis. She works hard on these. I skip KT most of the time. Jared has zero opinions of his own. He just echos whatever Jac says. I enjoy Mike. He is intelligent, well spoken and has a mind of his own. I like he and Alexis together. Would love to hear more from him. I still look forward to listening, just not as much as I used to. The ladies are doing a great job with the Wed episodes.

Still a great podcast
I still give this a 5 although the last few weeks stories have not been up to par. This is one of the few higher end true crime podcasts. That said, I think that you were hoodwinked by the story about Joaquin(sp), the guy from Mexico who claims to have heard gun shots and so he pulled out his gun and started firing in the direction of the shots. Really???? Nobody does that. We don’t need a person like that living in my neighborhood. He is lying. Part of this story is missing, whether he was pardoned or not.

Consistently one of the best true crime podcasts in the game. Race & Politics BE GONE!
People want to listen to True crime Podcast to get away from RACE & POLITICS & your opinions as that’s all they are NO facts anyway… In your latest podcast you jump to conclusions about that this case would have gotten more exposure if it were a white person or family etc… You’re smart enough I’m sure with all your political opinions & race expert that you’re friends in the liberal media ONLY care about covering Black crime when it’s White & Black involved against one another they will never report Black on Black…. I agree that’s pathetic as the cell phones only are brought out and the spaghetti thrown against the wall to see what sticks by the Left wing media when it’s going to drum up something that will (factual or not) will get Crump, Sharpton, and the rest of the race hustlers down to the state to hustle the poor family out of some money behind their backs… look at Chicago which is all black on black and it’s not only rarely reported the mayor and even a 2 term Black president in Obama who was supposedly from there as well but did NOTHING for them as he only visited the state on his last day of his second term… And by the way there’s not enough blacks to have elected that same 2 term black president so a heck of a lot of whites voted for him or he wouldn’t have come close to winning….. I’ll be erasing this podcast enjoy California….

Obviously reading off of a piece of paper, zero passion, and it feels like I’m sitting in 9th grade listening to a “project report” being presented to me by the 2 girls who walk the halls thinking they’re 10’s, when they’re at best a soft 6. And if I hear one more reference to the media not paying attention to the case because it involved a “person of color” I’m going to throw up. Way too much blind guessing about what happened in the cases without having at least lived a few adult years on our planet to have any opinion at all. Facts facts facts. Or some intelligence.

Good topics, but with a sour note
In a market flooded with podcasts, especially true crime, it must be hard to come up with good topics. I’ve been noticing there are quite a few podcasts telling the same stories. Grinding out a show every week or two necessitates some repetition of subject matter among genre-specific podcasts. However, this podcast has done a great job of coming up with good, interesting, entertaining material. The one sour note is this: one of the hosts on the show seems to be trying to make herself stand out by peppering much of what she says with the F word. I don’t get overly offended by the F word. I say it myself now and then when there is just cause, perhaps the bottom dropping out of a garbage bag on the way to the dumpster, or accidentally stepping in poop. However, the F word is not only a jarring word on a podcast, but also makes it hard to play the podcast openly in one’s home, when there is perhaps a child or two who will hear it, memorize the forbidden word, and then say it at school, so the parent is ultimately punished for something someone said on a podcast. We get it, you’re edgy. You don’t need to keep making it the same point. Perhaps you can make your point some other way, such as getting a sleeve tattoo, or a severely asymmetrical haircut, if you don’t have those already. This would’ve been a five star review, but I can’t give a five star review when there’s such a flaw.

Amazing podcast
One of my all time favorite crime podcasts, the unique idea of allowing someone so close to the crime to tell the story balanced out with additional information from the podcasters, all with their own unique perspectives that shape each story so well. Thank you for being real, not mincing words and showing the emotions that each story evokes. I am also from Long Island and love the references to everything NY, also living in AZ and California over the last several years. Barb

Change the name to “Alexis gets a boyfriend” 🙄
I’m so bummed this used to be my favorite podcast but now it has taken a sharp decline. The normal episodes are like C+ with lots of nonsense buzzwords and fake poetic pandering to fill time. I subscribed to Patreon for the ad free feature and hoped the bonus content would be good but it’s not TFD content - it’s a weird extra episode of Jac and Alexis talking to each other. Don’t bother. They’re talking about a crime but the storytelling is horrific. I know they are smart women but they both just sound so pretentious it’s gross. Having their boyfriends on Killing Time is a saving grace because it brings them back down to earth. I hate to say it probably went downhill since Billy was canceled and left the podcast, but that’s likely the reason why. Balance is off. Also they kicked me out of the Facebook group for defending nick cannon and right after mentioning my son is black. So there’s that.

Ehhh
I started out loving this podcast. Jack and Alexis seemed to berate and poke at billy alot and it gave me the vibe they were a bit jealous that their fans liked him the most. Unfortunately, everyone found out what was going on with Billy behind the scenes and he then left the podcast. As soon as he did though, you could tell he was clearly the backbone of this podcast. I don't condone anything he has done, but he was a good podcaster. Now it seems their first degree person are questionable at best and barely even know the person from the actual crime. Episode 219 solidified that. Alison sounds like she was really jealous of the girl group in the locker rooms. She described Lysa as flaky and ditzy. Meanwhile Lysa started many business ventures. And then described her as cunning and manipulative after she killed her husband. Despite doctors and other forensics showing she was abused. Alyson is clearly biased in her story and I think y'all should vet your first degrees wayore.

Decent but flawed
I enjoy the content of the regular episodes but find them hard to listen to because both hosts seem to be unable to utter a sentence that doesn’t start with “And…”. It’s also clear that they’re unable to read a script smoothly (without inappropriate pauses between words that should flow). You couldn’t pay me to listen to the Killing Time episodes - that kind of blah blah conversation is what I skip at the beginning of every regular show. Put that out as it’s own show, and improve the verbal delivery and this would get 5 stars.

Killing time should be a separate show
Killing time is funny and fun but I don’t want to listen to it every week. I want to hear the stories and not the hostesses views on… irrelevant things. I feel like being subscribed to this show i just get a bunch of irrelevant killing time shows and that should be a separate show, I’m not interested in killing time. I don’t need to kill time. I want to hear peoples stories and this show is diluted with so much irrelevant content. I’d give it a 5/5 if it was just the first degree. But killing time ruined it.

Poor Presentation
If I don’t love it, I typically just move along. The problem here is that they’ve often drawn a line around how “serious” they are, versus, I assume, something that mixes crime and comedy, like The Last Podcast On The Left or MFM. Either be a party/crime podcast or don’t. Don’t act like you’re more “serious” and then drunk-record again and again. It’s disingenuous and rather tedious.

I understand that Billy had to go. Unfortunately, the podcast is just so bad now. The fact that the Billy drama is never addressed if troublesome. A casual listener just has to wonder what happened to him. As for long time listeners, we deserved to hear about what he did. Love Love Love
LOVE! That pretty much sums it up. Just the perfect mix of everything you want in a true crime podcast - basically in any podcast/genre, with the hosts, the voices, the rhythm and flow, the connection (theirs and yours), the right amount of “lightness” to balance the darkness of these interesting yet tragic true stories. And it feels like you’re hanging out with your girl friends. Plus knowing the places they talk about in LA & NY makes it even better for me personally. Love you Jac & Alexis - thanks for fighting the good fight, supporting other women, and being real 🤍 However lately it seems like the type of true crimes shared are getting more deplorable and grotesque - I don’t listen to them all like I used to. Some way too disturbing for my liking.

You can tell the Alexis chick is reading a script and she can’t even read it right most of the time. Not a fan of how the information is presented.

Troubling
Why is no one talking about what happened with Billy Jensen? It’s too uncomfortable for me to listen to this podcast now, though I’ve binged almost all of them up to last night. This used to be one of my fav podcasts. I found out that he was sexually harassing people????? It makes it really hard to think that anyone involved in this podcast cares about victims when they don’t even talk about what happened with this

Miss the Goth
I get why Billy’s gone. I get the women’s privacy and professionalism and (assumed) friendship with Billy and why they’ve stayed silent. But this podcast just isn’t the same without him. They just seem so uneducated and steadfast in a millennial bubble. Still appreciate the kindness Alexis shows with the guests. I think their heart is in the right place, I will come back a few months from now to see if it’s improved.

When people sing & look at you 😂
Laughing so hard with you three. Such an entertaining podcast, always. Listening to the Plague episode & Jared is too funny & I totally agree with him. I have no idea what I’m supposed to do when someone sings to me, plays guitar & sings for me & looks at me at the same time. So uncomfortable. My niece & nephew (18 &19) are learning guitar & when they bring their guitars over for a weekend visit my BF & I both get nervous immediately. We feel you Jared!

My Favorite Podcast
I started out listening to True Crime Podcasts with Crime Junkie, Anatomy of Murder, and any audiochuck. Until… @sdmilam told me about your podcast… I have been listening nonstop. I am currently studying for my Behavior Analysis Certification and working as a respite care for a 16 year old disabled boy. When we go outside for bubbles we listen to you guys, when we go on a car ride or golf cart ride to calm down we listen to you wonderful humans. I know I am supposed to turn up my anxiety but honestly this podcast is my escape from anxiety. It honestly makes me want to do forensic behavior analysis because I want to help solve cases and help these victims families get some kind of positive conclusion. Billy: Your insight and experience add so much to this podcast. I hope that you grow from recent events and find the healing you need. You are a talented man and have helped so many people in so many ways. We all make mistakes, it’s what you do after that is equally important. Alexis and Jac: Ladies I put you together because your friendship = goals. I feel such a kindred with both of you, you make me laugh, you make me cry, and leave me in awe with the hard work you put into this podcast giving people close to these horrific acts of violence an outlet to heal and share their stories. I find that actually hearing from people close to these events make me feel less detached from what happened and makes it shockingly and utterly more real to me. I appreciate that because I don’t want to become desensitized, these people were real and the actions of a few can cause ripples (or tsunamis of devastation) that don’t just end once people aren’t talking about it anymore this pain lingers through generations. Thank you for all you do, Lauren @droemmer_om_stjerner (Dreams of Stars in Norwegian) If you are still picking 2 people which would be super duper cool you should pick both Sdmiliam and myself because that would just be pretty fantastic.

Love Them!
I love the how well they respect the victims and connections they interview in order to tell their stories. They are allowing so many people who have been through trauma to voice their stories and the stories of their loved ones. The chemistry that Jac, Alexis, and Billy have is so amazing and draws you into each episode. I have been binge listening for a few weeks now since I just discovered it and would have to say it has become my favorite!

Billy balanced this show out
Two very privileged ladies who made lots of ageist “our (former) co-worker is old” jokes and lecture its listeners about how we should think and how woke we should be. They are 35 but emotionally going on 25 and appear to be recording their podcasts drunk, (or maybe there is an audio issue but they’ve admitted to drinking and podcasting in the past.) No public acknowledgment that they have dropped their co-host, no evidence of wrongdoing on his part by a court of law. Kind of like putting a person in jail for a crime, but without a criminal trial. I dropped this show from my feed. I’ll leave it for the geriatric millennials. Oh and BTW, everyone is getting older, daily. You might want to re-think your stance on aging.

Update: they’ve lost their way without Billy. Not that he needs to comeback, but the show is definitely mediocre at best now. Now they’re anti-gun. Geez ..Each podcast is getting weaker and weaker. I used to look forward to this podcast every week! It’s not the same without BILLY! There was a fantastic chemistry and comical banter that took place between Alexis, Jack and Billy that is no longer present. True Crime podcasts, in my humble opinion, benefit immensely when laughter can be shared. Humor provides relief and breaks up the heaviness so prevalent amongst murder, crime, deceit and death centered content. PLEASE BRING BILLY BACK!

Stop Recording Drunk!
For the love of God, how can you not listen to your recordings and recognize how obvious it is you are drunk. I just listened to the Linda LaRoche episode and it wasn’t the first episode post-Billy that made it unbearable, it was all of the egregious slurring. There are many recommendations listeners have made that just aren’t possible, like altering your voices or breathing patterns, but to not podcast drunk has been said so many times yet it continues. It’s so disrespectful to the victims and the stories you are telling. When you can’t properly pronounce names, years, etc, it makes it seem like those details aren’t important to you when they are important to the families and victims. I’m all for drinking with your friend, have-at-it, but, when you start to slur, stop recording or stop drinking.

We’re not old Billy!!!🤪
First we have to go back…. (I wrote this message who knows when and never posted it) The three of you do a great job of delivering intriguing, respectful, and factual stories. You create a vibe that all generations can be drawn to. I love your genuine natures. Thank you for all your hard work! Can’t wait until next Wednesday 💖 With that being said, I want you girls to know that I think you’re both handling this situation with Grace. There is no way to make everyone happy. I do want to acknowledge the fact that you two are more than influencers. Billy brought a man’s perspective and expertise, and despite an intermittent dirty old man vibe, I thought you all made a great team. Unfortunately ego or insecurities plagued the true crime world, and you two were directly affected. Alexis, the writer and the grinder and Jac, the spice and perspective. You two are going to be fine, and I love you💖

Bring Billy BACK!!!!!!
I’m struggling between 5 stars & 1 star. I’m so disappointed! I could just scream! I’m sure the girls hands are tied in what can & can’t be said . Billy made the show worth listening to. He is truly knowledgeable and a real true-crime journalist. The show isn’t the same at all. He is being canceled and it’s completely unfair & cruel. He has explained his side. IF there’s things he has done then let’s see the evidence. He is a part of my 3 constant podcasts and now I don’t feel like supporting any of them. Podcasts used to fight for the innocent. What happened to that? How about someone do a podcast on the terrible thing that has happed to Billy Jensen.

Jac and Alexis don’t owe us anything
I just wanted to come here and say that neither of you owe any of the listeners anything. Your actions aren’t the reason Billy is not longer a part of the podcast, his are. Not only is/was Billy your friend, but a close colleague. I’m sure the news was more shocking to both of you than any of us strangers and truthfully you aren’t responsible for telling us what happened. That’s what Google is for. Also this podcast is your job and Billy put the future of the pod at risk. So keep up the good work, pivoting during a tough situation, and for Jer swooping in. Thanks for doing your best and I’m sorry for what you all are going through. I also hope Billy’s victim(s) and himself get the help they need.

Your silence speaks volumes…
Addendum: Adding to my previous review. I have enjoyed the show, but find it disgusting that you all want address TheBilly Jensen issue. I agree though slap story sounds a little suspicious, but go to affirmative murder and listen to Alvin’s story. I have listened to almost every episode. Started out that I couldn’t stand the way that the girls come across as shallow, rich, spoiled princesses who are dismissive of things they don’t understand or aren’t interested in. I just wanted to tell them to keep their minds open and they might learn something. I have really enjoyed Billy on The Murder Squad, and even bought his book and loved it. I do enjoy the banter between Alexis, Jac and Billy. The politics are almost enough to make me never listen again. Yes, we know that almost everyone in the media is liberal, and liberal opinions are the only ones that matter, but did you ever stop to think that many of us who tune in to podcasts are doing so to escape all the politics and garbage we are inundated with every day? I’ve tried several different podcasts, and every time politics come up, I start looking for something else to listen to. I am a nurse working 12 hour shifts during this time of Covid. I pay attention to what goes on in the world and I vote. I started listening to podcast for a little escapism. Not to be preached to about politics.

The best
The best true crime podcast I have listened to. The way it’s set up and using a first degree connection in every episode is original and fascinating. Great story tellers and I can’t get enough of this podcast! Alexis puts her heart and soul into each episode and handles each case with care. She is truly passionate and a gifted writer and story teller. Let’s not forget about jac! She’s HILARIOUS and brings light to each episode. She’s relatable, fun, and adds compassion to all episodes that you can’t find on other podcasts. The banter and side talk is light hearted and minimal-only at the beginning of each episode. I was already in love with Billy Jensen before starting this podcast, so it wasn’t a surprise to me when I got hooked on this podcast!! I’m new to this one, only on episode #52, but I have yet to listen to an episode that wasn’t well researched or was boring! Even the first 15 episodes they claim were horrible I thought weren’t as bad as they made it out to be! I have a lot of catching up to do but I’m glad I won’t be caught up for awhile! Also it’s super coincidental that my sons name is Jensen & his fathers name is billy…unfortunately my ex is the kind of man that could have me on one of the episodes of this podcast. Listening to these episodes helps me to be able to see red flags 🚩 & I have now realized that I am not the problem. So thank you Billy, Alexis, and Jac!

One of the best
I have been listening almost almost since the beginning, I think you guys are great! Makes work go by much faster, I wish there were two uploads in a week. However I understand how things work so yes it’s disappointing Billy had to step away for the time being, also get why you can’t speak on his behalf yet due to the investigation probably per his lawyers request makes sense, however I find it extremely hard to believe based off seeing how he is interacts even being intoxicated, I do not for one second believe he would abuse anyone in any way, also with how good of detectives and other law officials he has surrounded himself with as well as worked with they’d sniff it out. Could they of had a moment sure alcohol does odd things at times but come on it’s quite irritating don’t go after this man because he’s becoming quite successful imo seems a bit of jealousy. I just can’t believe the allegations that are being thrown at him. Hopefully this gets cleared up soon. If he were a true predator these two would have had some encounters to share too with how much they spent together and alone. They can’t resist temptation. Definitely seems like a stretch in my eyes, I would be truly baffled if I prove to be wrong fingers crossed Billy!!!

Don’t really see how an alleged slap while having “intimate” time is considered SA. Jen has absolutely no proof of it, while Billy posted extensive texts of Jen being pushy and uncomfortably forward. She never showed any proof of that even occurring, why would she continue to throw herself at a man she barely knows if she was soooo victimized by this “slap” all while making fun of all the screen shots of messages that were posted

Hi Guys! I wanted to leave a review to hype up these 3 people. Not only is their content totally binge-worthy and fascinating - but their story telling is done so well and, mixed in with their first degree guests, gives every case the jaw dropping attention it deserves. As someone who recently started binging this podcast about 3 months ago, it’s been so fun seeing how Jac, Alexis, and Billy’s relationship has developed over the years and has really made me feel like I know them as I catch myself laughing along with them as they bicker and joke with each other. This podcast deserves so much love because not only are they amazing at keeping things light hearted but they also portray these cases in such a gentle way showing immense respect to those affected by them. 5 STARS A MILLION TIMES OVER. Thank you for keeping me entertained throughout my work days, walks, hikes, mall trips, etc. I highly recommend to all! Xoxo, Cate

Pros and cons
I love the content it’s different from other true crime podcast by having someone who knew the people involved is a great way to get even more inside the story. My frustration is that you guys promote the heck out of other platforms that you have to pay to get more episodes and the reason that bothers me is because the episodes on Apple podcast don’t seem like they’re edited. It’s choppy sometimes and out of order. It makes me think that none of you thought to listen to the full episode before posting it otherwise you would notice. The bonus episodes are all over the place

I am fairly certain that this could be viewed negatively by many people. I just learned why Billy stays with this podcast. I wonder if they will stay together and on the air now that Billy is faced with accusations. By the way, “gedda” is not a word. The correct pronunciation is “get to”.

Wanted to like, but it’s just too exploitative
I wanted to like this so much that I kept listening off and on for a year. The concept is a good one—getting first hand accounts rather than relying on half-remembered facts or splashy media takes. There have been some insightful episodes which kept me coming back. For example, the Jonestown series gave a much more nuanced take on the victimization of cult followers that will make you rethink all the flippant 90s jokes about Nikes and Kool-Aid. However, most episodes are more like an “omg, isn’t it crazy?! it could have been me!” retelling from someone whose brother was three grades older at the same high school. This feels extremely exploitative and panders to an audience that is just dying to be involved in true crime drama. The hard stop for me was the revelation that one host is known to leverage his status as a true crime “celebrity” and “advocate” to allegedly pursue (to put it lightly) women in the true crime community. This has apparently resulted in at least one lawsuit and his firing from another podcast. A heartbreaking breach of trust. If that’s not enough, here are some other things that add up to making it unlistenable for me: -a focus on influencer-style “branding”, shown by the copious use of taglines (they’re trying to make four different dark and brooding catchphrases work all at once), merch references, and loosely organized “segments” -the offscript mean-girl ranting and speculations (we get that he’s a bad guy, you don’t have to make fun of his looks or reinforce carceral talking points) -bickering among hosts that feels a lot like bullying (even if BJ isn’t a sympathetic target) and reveals deep insecurities about “fan favorites”v. “hard workers” -Killing Time…dear gawd where to start?? Regular features include “Firstie Worsties”, where ppl call in to dish about their vengeful misdemeanors. These always end with an “I don’t even feel bad about it, honestly”, followed by Alexis absolving their (lack of) guilt by insisting that it wasn’t that bad, they had it coming, and anyway, you shouldn’t be held liable bc the brain isn’t fully formed until 25 years old! [Note: this is a commonly misinterpreted and misapplied factoid]. Another segment, “On the Stand”, is an opportunity to trash foods, music, pop culture, behaviors, etc they don’t like (which is continued ad nauseum by their fans on the fb page) and further bicker amongst themselves for their choices

Accidentally Found This…
And I am so glad. I love Unraveled and The Murder Squad and I worked my way through them both. I searched Billy and found this podcast. The stories are fascinating and many I have never heard of before. I actually one degree from two murders. Two of my students 😞

Love/Hate relationship
If you want to listen to Cady Heron talk about true crime, this podcast is for you. Concept is a yes, obsessed. At this point I’m listening for Billy and of course the incredibly brave souls that guest each week. Jac (and sometimes Alexis)…wear their privilege on their sleeves and make judgmental, grand generalizations about complicated topics. It can make it difficult to get through an episode.

Awesome concept…
Great concept but the two women are painfully unaware of their privilege, especially when talking about disadvantaged peoples. I’m not really sure how Billy Jensen ended up hosting a podcast with them because it is a very strange pairing. I’ll still listen because I love to hear the first degree perspective but some parts of the hosts flirting and banter make me cringe down deep.

Best podcast
Billy I admire your knowledge and the heart and soul you put into craft. Growing up in the 80’s I relate to a lot of what you talk about and get picked on about. Lol Alexis you are smart and compassionate and it shows in your work and dialogue. Jac you are a natural at being the host. Probably one of the best I heard. You also do a great job on the advertisements. I actually looked into some of them and that’s saying something. All of you together with the chemistry put out the best true crime podcast. Keep up the great work. Thank you Keith from Valley Forge Pa.

Some people shouldn’t read the stories
Billy and Jac do fine with the story telling. Billy really is the only one who stays on track and is most factual. The other girl should not be a story teller at all. I know it’s anxiety but it’s is all I can focus on when she reads. I am just thinking spit it out the whole time. So I miss anything she talked about. Talking amongst the group she is fine but it is very irritating waiting on her to breathe again. Idk if she’s trying to be dramatic but it’s annoying.

Borderline bullying and sexism
The two girls borderline bully Billy all the time and I don’t like their attitude towards men or the police, it’s always something like “and the police didn’t do much” and blah blah blah, I understand the police are not always the best but they contently make fun of there work, there is always borderline sexism towards men in almost every episode, they constantly make fun Billy and I do not recommend listening.

Love this show! Was introduced to it a couple years back and binged it from the beginning until I caught up. Now a great addition to my weekly routine. I can understand how some things can be annoying but every show can have something that you don’t like. Totally get how AL can be too much sometimes lol but overall a good group and I enjoy listening to it. Love Billy 👋🏼, the banter, and how it lightens the mood considering the subject matter. If you don’t like it move on and listen to something else. Not sure why some people are so hateful and critical in their reviews... but such is life when writing a comment from afar. I have laughed out loud many times with the banter and with Killing Time. Check out Unraveled, also a good listen! lol Thanks for all you do guys! Hosts Are Very Privlaged
I really enjoy the concept of this Podcast which makes me more disappointed when the hosts inject their judgmental opinions. Telling the stories of murdered people shouldn’t be overshadowed by making fun of people’s lifestyles. It’s no secret people living in rural settings are usually the last to get resources and are typically lacking compared to larger cities. I don’t disagree there can be some closed mindedness as well. However belittling is never a good look ok anyone and at times makes the script of this Podcast sound a bit ignorant in itself which is ironic.

Here for it!
I just recently found this show and wanted to give it a try because of Billy Jensen. I’ve listened to his other podcast, so I wanted to see what this one was all about. And I’m so glad that I did. I really enjoy the dynamic of Alexis and Jac versus Billy. They have covered stories I’ve surprisingly never heard of. Then the cases that I have heard of, are brought to light in different and new ways hearing from people so close to murderers/victims. I’m so thankful I have so many more episodes still to binge. Highly recommend!! P.a. I honestly can’t tell the difference or figure out whose voice is whose between Alexis and Jac.

Disingenuous and disrespectful
The stories here are important and deserve to be covered, and I enjoy the episodes when they stick to the facts. However, the hosts are constantly interjecting their own assumptions and beliefs in between the facts. I don’t find them or their word choices in the off-scripted portions of the episodes mature or respectful when discussing such difficult and sensitive real life events that happened to real people. I’ll come back when you stop treating it like a reality show and you express some genuine empathy and respect.

Agenda Driven Turnoff
This is not factual journalism, reporting or storytelling. It is agenda & opinion driven, especially by the female hosts, not to mention the unnecessary potty mouths by both females. I have listened to 3 episodes and am so turned off by the style of these ladies ( Billy Jensen thankfully seems to stay on the high road). Victimology is a very important part of investigative police work, but these gals call it victim shaming. You have to know your victim in order to possibly know your perpetrator, and yes, hitchhiking was and still is dangerous, and back in the 70’s is was a “thing” (I was a teenager & young woman in the 70’s so I remember behaviors that were commonplace - unlike these female hosts). I engaged in some of these risky behaviors back then, and when I reflect back now as a 68 year old woman, I thank God & my lucky stars that I survived that crazy time in history and that no one snatched me. If you want to get at the truth then quit being judgmental about either side and just tell the darn story. And quit puffing yourself up with all the foul language ladies…it adds nothing and is a complete turn-off.

Too political
This podcast was recommended by either Dateline or 20/20. I’m used to true crime being reported as factual based without the hosts throwing in their political views and being negative towards one party. Such a turn off so I will choose to not listen.

The girls talk to much
I normally don’t write reviews good or bad but today changed that. I only been listening for a little while because I am caught up on all my other pod casts and I need something to keep me busy at work. I am about 18 episodes in and they girls can’t stop talking about random stuff that doesn’t pertain to the case. I wish they quit talking as much. Billy is very insightful and understands the cases. When they go an ad it goes right away no break so I am thinking I am still listening to the pod cast and then an ad. One of the girls keeps breathing in the mic: could be better and a little more professional.

Have to say it
I think the podcast has good intentions, but one thing that really bothers me is sometimes the “first degree” is just someone who went to the same school at the same time. They were not in the victims circle ect and I find that to be so inconsiderate.. If I were a family member of a victim the last thing I need to hear is how honestly a stranger feels about MY person. I don’t place full blame on the podcast as this also goes to the “”””first degree””””. Because you knew their name, you now think you can tell their story?? Absolutely not.

Billy and Alexis are quality journalists who also bring an entertaining element to everything they do. This was my first introduction to Jaq and she adds the perfect element of balance to the group! Killing time is particularly hilarious and offers a great juxtaposition to the heaviness of their main episodes. Definitely recommend!

Sad vibes
I feel like the tone has change. Almost as if you are judging the family or friends of the murder without proper context or giving us enough context. For example, the Stroup case. His dad seemed to have called 911 as soon as he understood what was going on and he was bad mouthed. Did we miss some information in the dad?

I don’t plan on listening to this show but as someone who as lost a close family member to murder the trailer to this podcast makes me furious every time I’m forced to hear it. “And who knows maybe you could be our next guest..” like it’s some sort of “cool thing” -could you glamorize murder or be more insensitive to those who have had to deal with a horrific tragedy even more? Absolutely disgusting and shame on everyone who forgets about the real people behind all these stories.

Alexis should stick to research
I’ve been listening to this podcast for quite some time and it keeps getting harder to listen to each week. The content has so much potential. I initially started listening because I am a huge fan of Billy, and I suffered through the beginning episodes where “AL must be stopped” was a true mantra. Sound issues have been much improved, only to have Alexis insert her opinions in a forceful and close minded manner. Don’t get me wrong, I welcome opinions during a podcast, straight reporting can sometimes be boring. I had so much hope for this group and I love Billy and Alexis on their other, professionally produced, podcast. Here, Alexis needs a producer to lead her a bit better.

Podcast has gone downhill FAST
It’s basically turned into murder gossip girl podcast with a really smart guy who gets cut off all the time by two women who are also smart but seem to want to make everything about themselves. And what is with the production quality? It got really good when Jerry was all up in there but is he gone now or something? Every single episode lately it sounds like Alexis is tapping or knocking her mic when she speaks (and it’s not the lip smacking, who cares about that). It got so irritating I had to turn off the last episode 😞 sad because I’ve been listening since day one it was always a favorite

Could be better
This podcast has a great premise and the stories are very interesting but the unnecessary inserted opinions rather than facts (which often ruin the flow of the story) and Alexis constantly sounding drunk with garbled and slurred speech makes this show hard to listen to at times. I keep coming back for the stories and Billy and Jac who do a great job, but this show needs to be cleaned up. I get that the hosts have other shows they work on, but those shows sound more polished and professional. The content is good here but could be tighter and the sloppiness is honestly insulting to the guests, victims discussed, and listeners of this show.

Some Gentle Criticism
Stop cutting off Billy Alexis !!! I’ve been listening to you guys for 6 months I’d day. My friend recommended you guys to me and I’m glad she did because you guys bring to the table some great podcasts. Seriously though stop cutting off Billy I think he gets cut off way too much and he gives you girls all the time to speak what’s on your mind so do so for him. Also, when Alexis reads off her parts you can definitely tell she’s reading off a script and her pauses are so off. Try to work on reading the scripts off smoothly. Those are my only complaints. Hopefully this didn’t come off as too rude but I think some gentle criticism never hurt anyone. I really do appreciate your work!!

This podcast started out okay but it is SO hard to listen to when people insert opinion language vs facts. I actually work in the criminal justice field and listen to similar podcasts but this podcast is more of gossip girl type. If you want to listen to a good podcast that gives you facts of the case look for Anatomy of a murder. I don’t know these peoples backgrounds but I prefer to listen to people who have first hand knowledge of crime. This is like listening to reality tv.

Castanza-stanza rules!
Let me start off by saying the first episode I heard started off with Billy seen off hand from the camera away from the fray of the sunlight… with a hat fittingly unfit for his head? I knew from the rapport that followed that I would absolutely love this podcast, in this this casting situation in my head I was Billy (minus hat wardrobe) and my sisters (youngest of 3 lovely ladies) would be Jack and Alexis. I have always been made to feel weird that my interest in true crime is morbid and odd but listening to three educated, knowledgeable, lovely people talk and dissect true crime gives me a sense of hope that weird is ok, weird is good. Thank you for providing insight and thought provoking material for those heavy hitting cases or lighting the mood when it comes to a hard guilty or not guilty about sink water 🙃

True Crime at its finest
Alexis, Jac, and Billy are an amazing trio that brings you real life cases with people connected to the crime. It gives a different perspective on crimes that are well known (i. e. Ted Bundy, BTK) and some that aren’t. KILLING TIME is a chance to get to know the hosts and have a laugh after a heavy episode. I started listening in August 2021 and have not stopped! I love this podcast for so many reasons - 1. The hosts balance each other out and they’re truly best friends which makes it fun to listen to 2. The hosts are very professional and respectful. It’s apparent how much effort they put into telling each story accurately and handling each story with appropriate sensitivity. 3. There’s a good mix of fun, light heartedness sprinkled into the episodes despite the dark content 4. It’s a relatively small podcast which means they truly engage with their audience

Good concept, but not my style of storytelling
I found the insertion of judgement really off-putting. The episode about Ryan (part 2) features a 911 call in where Ryan’s father clearly says several times that his son called him at midnight and says he did “something bad” and was fleeing the state. The dad only was able to reach him again at 1:35am and then found out that Ryan possibly murdered someone. He calls 911 at around 2am. So why do the hosts keep saying the dad waited 2 hours to call 911? And then go into a whole thing about how part of the blame for Ryan’s sociopathic behavior is due to “bad parenting”? Again, I guess it’s more of a matter of taste, but I would have found it more interesting if they had a mental health professional as a guest who could give some insight into what the family dynamic may have been like. The hosts are giving a short-sided opinion instead of info that might be helpful to those engaged in or as victims of troubling behavior. IMO.

First, the dynamic among the three hosts is great fun. They’re smart, funny and sufficiently diverse to generate conversation. Then comes the subject matter and the storytelling. Peruse the past episodes and you’ll find more than one topic that will grab your attention. As with some other podcasts (like The Jordan Harbinger Show), even the titles that don’t immediately interest you will turn out to be truly fascinating.

Bad Podcast
I’m just gonna leave it short & simple. There are much better options out there, especially ones that give more information & a more unbiased opinion. It’s like kids that like murder podcasts , decided to open their own & really aren’t successful at it. I curse too, but it’s one of the girls favorite words, quite jarring & the constant “disgusting” in a valley girl voice.

a unique idea in the true crime podcast world
aside from everything else, one of the things i love about The First Degree is the premise- it isn’t just straight story telling from a host/hosts. and having someone with a unique perspective on a each case (be it a neighbor, family member, whomever) is a great way to get lesser-known stories out there. love it!

Too many people
Good concept but 3 people and a guest lead to too many people talking and cutting off the guest. Swap out the women week to week they talk too much over each other and the guest

I thought they were friends?
I have listened for a long time, but for some reason something has changed. It seems like Alexis hates Billy.. I thought they were friends. I have just decided to skip killing Time now, and fast forward through the banter on the main show. I do love the content but feel like something is different.

FAVORITE PODCAST EVER!!!!!!
TFD is my absolute favorite!!! If I listen to a different one I always skip the banter and go straight to the story. But not with them. The only thing I don’t like about TFD …is that there is not a new one every night. HA HA!!!! I love how they complement each other’s personalities. And make the show so fun. Keep on keeping on. ❤️One of your true and faithful fans!!!!!!

Mostly good
I do enjoy a lot of the stories they share. Some are overdone like the Hollywood Ripper and Black Dahlia but overall it’s good. The banter is ok even though “being tired” is a show opener a lot. The scripts are often stuttering at points like they lost their spot. Production and music is ok. I do hear the pst a lot -lip smacking - and the girls are too close to the microphones most of the time. For me I listen once a week for a few episodes so I don’t overload. Cops, guns and political choices shouldn’t be discussed ever. Fans leaving a hundred 5 star reviews all on the same day- not cool either. Fans rating people who review is the worst

My fav try crime podcast because it’s lighthearted when appropriate and serious when needed. I also love the Killing time episodes because sometimes you just want a dash of crime and something to laugh at. I love the banter between Jac, Alexis, and billy and hope that people can learn to take a joke once and a while.

Love this show so much! I’d like to say I like the hosts all equally but Billy is my favorite. When he brings up shows he is watching they are always favorites of mine. Not to mention all the music references. Don’t get me wrong the girls are great too! Although cooked fruit is one of my all time favorite foods, I like hearing differing opinions from my own. Mostly, I’m alone a lot due to chronic illness and I really look forward to hearing both shows every week. My podcast list is at least a mile long but this is the one I get excited about. Thank you guys for all the work you do!

The First degree
There may have been some merit to the show, had the girls, particularly one of them, cleaned up her language. I would enjoy listening to their stories, but not when the language is raw from such young kids. There is something to be said for good English. The young man is a pleasure to listen to, but the loudest of the two girls drowns him out more often than not. These are just my thoughts, and I am now backing away from the show. Thanks for the opportunity to comment.

Addicting
I started out not loving the banter but they have grown on me and are pretty funny. Very SoCal but entertaining and they do deep research on cases beyond what other podcasts do. They do a good job focusing on the cases and also tying cases together. I have discovered new cases and super interesting new POVs on old cases. They are empathetic and do a good job humanizing and respecting the victims. Alexis especially goes deep and ensures that the stories aren’t sensational entertainment but human tragedies that are worth digging into and understanding.

I feel like I’m there
I have never felt included in a podcast like I do with JAB( jac, Alexis, & Billy (I feel like JAB needs to be a thing now)). Each episode is different and so are the stories! They have been getting better and better the longer they have been doing the show. I started listening a little under a year after the first degree started and binged it. I have been listening ever since! For those Karen’s out there hating on it (enter middle finger emoji) you clearing don’t have the personality for these three. You have the option to skip the killing time episodes. And if you listen to a rotating schedule of podcast, each show has their own banter in their own way. I love it and that billy cares so much❤️

One of my favorite true crime pods! I love how different it is because they have people that knew the victim or the person committing the crime! Also I love that some of the stories aren’t ones that we hear about on the new bring lights to all the cases that still happen. The Dynamic between the jac, billy, and Alexis is great as well! I’ve been listening since the start and have loved every episode! Keep making great episodes! Also billy has beautiful eyes! Not a creeper!. Promise! love you 3! lanaya.cecilia - IG handle!

My absolute favorite way to get things done! Love the mix of personalities. Love the whole idea of the “first degree” perspective - & how you never know which side you will be tuning into. I love episodes where they have both sides perspectives … I listen at work. I listen at home. I sometimes listen in the car. I love this podcast & I got hooked so quickly! I love listening while I check monotonous things of my list - dishes, laundry, folding! … Hurry up & listen! Give it 5 episodes.

Favorite True Crime Podcast
I have been listening to this podcast for a few months now and it has quickly become one of my favorites! They way that they tell the story of the crime while weaving in the first degree connection really helps to tell the story in a different way. I also like that they are covering a mix of popular true crime stories and lesser known crimes. I also like how at the end they do killing time, it lightens up the mood after learning about a case. I’ve been following this show for years. I really love this group and their camaraderie. Was a fan but not anymore
Is Alexis just trying to fill time with all the F bombs? It’s so over used it’s not only NOT effective, it’s just crass. What’s with the lip smacking? It’s like nails on a chalkboard! I’ve never heard a respected journalist talk like this. I loved this podcast in the beginning. Now I’ve unfollowed the Podcast and their socials. If I wanted to hear someone talk like that while drinking I’d do it myself. Too bad because this Podcast had so much potential! Billy could do so much better. Really love this podcast! The hosts have great banter, the concept is great, the interviews are done respectfully and with wonderful taste, and the stories are compelling. Adding the first degree element to the episode really sets it apart from other shows. Also, Killing Time is such a fun pallet cleanser during the week. Still has some true crime elements, but also keeps it much lighter. Great job, Alexis, Jac, and Billy!! Thank you for all your hard work and time!!

Love all three of the hosts! Their dynamic makes me feel like I'm part of their crew. The amount of time, energy and thought that goes into putting these shows together is something most would never understand. One of my favorite things about this podcast is that the hosts choose to cover lesser known cases, and they do it with enough entertainment style to keep you wanting to come back for more. Love TFD
I listen to a lot of True Crime podcasts and they all have their own vibe and unique characteristics. I love TFD because Alexis does a ton of research, works her butt off writing the scripts and talking to the first degree guests and balances tons of other projects & podcasts. I admire Billy’s passion for and dedication to justice and how he encourages us not just to be passive listeners, but to get loud and be a part of the solution. It’s clear that the 3 of them have a great relationship despite their differences. I also enjoy getting to hear from someone close to the story for a different perspective. Thanks Alexis, Billy & Jac for all of your hard work! And now, a PSA; please stop tearing people down. Podcasters are working hard to release FREE content for us to consume. If you don’t like the way someone’s voice sounds or their political stance or think they “banter” too much (God forbid they be themselves for 5 minutes), then move on. No one is making you listen to anything and there is no reason to personally attack people because they aren’t doing everything exactly the way YOU think they should. Grow up and have a shred of human decency.

This is a great podcast. The banter in the opening is hilarious. Jac and Alexis remind me so much of how I am with my friends. Add in Billy and it’s a perfect team. Each case is taken seriously and handled with respect. It’s a small touch, but I really like that at the beginning of each case, we are told the top songs and movies of the time . I’ve been listening to this podcast for awhile and I always look forward to the episodes. Jac, Billy, and Alexis are always sensitive to the victims, and their way of narrating the episodes and sharing the guests’ stories is very engaging. What a joke
Where do I start? This show has devolved more and more every week. The writing and research into cases is so poor. That makes the episodes boring and filled with idle chit chat instead of actual information. I don't know who's more annoying, Alexis or the 'Firsties' who defend her. They all get their feelings hurt at the first sign of criticism and instead of trying to do better, they silence people or resort to name calling. The fact that The Murder Squad is on hiatus while Billy wastes his time on this joke of a podcast is a real crime. He could be doing real work, helping solve cold cases. Instead we get this nonsense. Such a waste of talent.

The First Degree was my first podcast
Sooo the TFD was my first podcast. I loved it! It made me think a little harder about the psychological aspect to crime and I was hooked! The fun banter is great but also I LOVE how they can respectfully disagree at times and keep rolling loving each other as always. ( I could do without the f bomb so much. A curse word in my opinion should be placed where it matters to have a good effect😉 and honestly the politics. But that’s because it gets me off track of what I am thinking about ) I also love the fact that there is so much experience combined in the show that I feel like cases get a deeper look and there are things brought to light in the discussions that have not been thought about. Having a First Degree be part of the show adds trust to already spectacular journalism that is not sensationalized but brought to life by 3 lovely people! ( Jarrod and crew we know your there so you count too) ! I also adore the way that Billy, Alexis’s and Jaq are just thoughtful ,vulnerable good people!❤️ so as I said it was my first podcast …. I have listened to hundreds more by now and honestly…. Nothing compares!!! I love you guys💕

I am a spotIfy listener and Patreon subscriber. I went and downloaded the apple podcast app to leave this review. I am a big fan of this show. I listened in the beginning and needed a break from true crime but came back just in time for them to launch their Patreon account. I am a bigger firstee than I was before. I absolutely love Billy, Alexis, and Jac. I am also a huge fan of the lady gang (Jax’s other podcast). Jac I started listening to the Maine when you started dating Jeri and I am so happy for you. Alexis (definitely the keltie of the group) you seem to do most of the work researching these episodes and it shows you work hard and they are great. Billy provides the necessary bit of skepticism and I appreciate his foil to the girl’s perspective (which I usually agree with fellow millennial here). Loving the videos on Patreon. Keep up the great work.

Two Girls. One Goth. Cult Following.
Not like creepy cult that makes you wear Nikes, but the kind of cult that makes you feel like your true crime obsession is completely unhealthy. And even the WORST thing you’ve ever done, really isn’t that bad. Alexis, Jac, and Billy are your true crime BFFs you didn’t know you needed. This podcast is unlike any other I’ve enjoyed in the past. They are 100% here for their firsties and interact and make us feel like one big family. 13/10 recommend. You won’t be sorry. Start with the Collier Landry case and you will never look back.

LOVE LOVE LOVE
Absolutely LOVE these three! Sorry Billy but I love when the girls pick on you, but it’s only because they love ya, right?! Great chemistry! It’s a great concept having a first degree account of each case, it makes it that much more personal and you get more of a feeing of the impact the crime had on the lives involved. Keep up the amazing work! And P.S. - Jac and Alexis…your voices are perfect and anyone who is judging and nitpicking you need a new hobby…there’s always gotta be a few a-holes in the group!!! Love you guys!! 💜🖤💜🖤

Best true crime out there.
This podcast is one of my favorite ones out there. I look forward to it each week. I love the perspective that the guest gets to tell the story each week. I also love that they don’t give the criminal any glory. The three work work really together, and you can tell that they all love the podcast so much. But Alexis doesn’t get enough credit. The podcast wouldn’t be a thing without her. So thanks Alexis for being amazing and making my drive to and from work so much better!
