Love love love!
I love love love hearing the mothers and their stories on this podcast! The host has also made changes in the new year to her role in the stories and is more interactive which I think has been a really great change!

The best!
Pregnant with my first and this has been my number one resource because it's interesting, easy to listen to, and hearing so many stories and points of view helped me to prepare for all the crazy scenarios that can arise in birth. If I heard a term or concept I was unfamiliar with I'd do my own research, but just the exposure really helped me learn about things I might not have thought to look into. It also has really good trigger warnings, something I struggled with in other resources. Over all I've listened to over a hundred episodes while on walks or cleaning my house and it's the best!

Amazing podcast!
I love this podcast! It’s super informative to learn about birth through hearing women’s stories. It also feels way more personal and engaging then just reading generic information about birth. I also love how it is structured as a personal narrative :) Love that they recently added more inclusive language in the intro and am so happy Bryn is vocal about reproductive justice

Lackluster
I love birth stories, but this doesn’t really feel like an “interview” podcast because the host hardly responds to the women sharing their stories, no matter what details they’re giving. This also leads to blatant misinformation being parroted without any recourse. Anyone listening to this without the education to know better could be getting frankly dangerous ideas from what is shared without any type of response or clarification. It also gets more and more politicized as the episodes go on. I’m not interested in being called “a birthing person.” I am a mother.

Absolutely love this podcast
I really can’t get enough of this podcast. I’ve learned so much from all of the stories shared here, and I really feel like I’ll be going into my own birth armed with so much wisdom! I love that I get to hear from people of all sorts of backgrounds, including those very different from my own. I don’t know what other reviewers are talking about with the show being “biased”… I feel like I hear so many different viewpoints! I also don’t mind Bryn’s “hands off” approach - she actually explained at sone point that she intentionally takes a back seat to allow people to tell their story in their own way.

Could use some more direction/disclaimers
I really enjoy this podcast however recently I’ve noticed some stories that caused me alarm with the stories told with mothers blatantly lying to providers or sharing misinformation without any intervention or disclosing at the beginning that these practices could be dangerous.

Used to love this podcast
I used to love this podcast because I learned so much. I also just love listening to anyone’s birth story. However, it’s clear that Brynn is pretty much just focused on pushing her political/moral agendas. For a while now, she has only been interviewing moms who promote her woke opinions (racial division, abortion, etc.) I don’t mind hearing from different points of view but I greatly dislike it when every interview is coming from the same world view (which is pretty radical.) Feels like gaslighting…

My comfort show <3
Brynn, I began listening to your podcast 4 years ago with my first pregnancy and I’m still here loving it in 2022. Never change your intro either. Your voice, the music, and the stories from this podcast bring me so much peace and joy and always puts me in a happy place during my pre and post natal seasons. Thank you :)

Some helpful stories but mostly normalizing trauma and abuse
I can’t recommend this to clients or mothers looking to learn more about birth. Yes, the format of the show is to allow women to share their stories from their perspective. However, the host doesn’t intervene or ask many questions and this causes a lot of inaccuracies or fears to be shared without clarification. So many stories straight up normalize abuse. Many pass along terrible recommendations and promulgate common scare tactics or blatantly inaccurate info about “big babies”, nuchal cords, advanced maternal age, breech birth, infertility, and without accurate information to counter them. It also gets awkward when a guest shares something incredibly traumatic or even very funny and there is no response from the host, just silence. The recent change in language also feels demeaning and dehumanizing. Overall, some helpful and empowering stories but the amount of misinformation and fear outweigh the benefit.

Thank you Brynn
My favorite podcast! Thank you, Brynn for making space for all birthing people to share their stories. There is room for all of us. I love that you give the interviewer the space to share without interrupting them with questions or comments. I will forever be a listener! 💖

Room for improvement, Bryn please read!
I am a new listener and I thoroughly enjoy hearing mother’s open up about their pregnancy, birth, PP and motherhood journeys. I have noticed that the host does not speak much or show much interest in the mother, so much so that at first I thought the moms recorded themselves telling their birth story and sent it in to Bryn. As a host I think it should be more of an interview style with added questions and remarks. Bryn sounds very “blah” as if she could be doing something better. It’s odd. Also the audio quality and breathiness of some of the guests makes certain episodes hard to get through. Hoping some improvements will be made in the audio department too.

Favorite birth podcast
I love this podcast! I’ve learned so much about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum through listening to these stories. This podcast is diverse and inclusive and showcases a variety of perspectives and experiences. I also appreciate that the host Bryn gives each guest space to share their story with minimal commentary, it keeps the focus on the birthing person’s experience. The Birth Hour is a real gem!

Great stories but the host isn’t great
I love the concept of this podcast and I love hearing women’s birth stories, but the host, Brynn, always sounds like she absolutely couldn’t care less. She really should try to work on that it’s very off putting to hear these women pour out their hearts with their stories and she’ll be like “yeaaaaaa” in terrible vocal fry and then not say anything else. She’s the only host of a podcast about pregnancy or birth that seems like she couldn’t care less

Virtue signaling
It’s such a shame, this podcast used to be so great. Now it’s all about being progressive. It shouldn’t matter what color your skin is, or your religious, political beliefs. But now she only interviews women who will get her woke points. Also super disturbed to see how much Brinn posts on Instagram in support of abortion. Used to recommend this podcast to everyone, now I’m embarrassed I did.

Enjoyable stories, room for improvement
I love listening to birth stories but am unable to listen to this podcast. The host is a great person with a lot of knowledge, but I highly recommend they invest in a mic screen or barrier (along with other methods) to filter out mouth noises from the host’s dry mouth. It is difficult to listen to.

Helpful stories outweighed by the fear and misinformation spread
As a doula of ten years and birth advocate, I listen regularly but I don’t recommend it to clients or mothers looking to learn more about birth or become empowered in their decisions. I understand that the format of the show is to allow women to share their stories from their own perspective. However, because the host doesn’t intervene or ask many questions, this causes a whole lot of inaccurate information to be shared without clarification. There are many stories that pass along non-evidence based recommendations and protocols along with fear when they talk about the reasons for their induction or how the doctor saved them or why they “couldn’t” choose x, y, or z. Common scare tactics about “big babies”, nuchal cords, advanced maternal age, breech birth, infertility, and more that are not based in real evidence are mentioned but without any accurate information to counter them, thus promulgating these fears and abuses within the maternity system. If I was a first time mom learning about birth some of these stories would be incredibly unhelpful and I’d be absorbing and learning a whole lot of things that were not true, perhaps affecting my own choices and birth. It would be helpful at the very least if the host asked more questions or perhaps at the end outside of the interview addressed some of the things that were said that could be confusing or misleading to mothers listening and learning about birth. It gets a bit awkward, too, when a guest shares something incredibly traumatic or even very funny and there is no response from the host at all. Not even an I’m sorry or a laugh. It makes the whole thing feel a bit inhuman. Along those lines, I’ve noticed a change in language this past year that I find demeaning and depersonalizing as well as the host on social media and within episodes pandering to p.c. politics and ideologies. Overall, the helpful and empowering stories are good but the amount of misinformation and fear shared makes it dangerous to recommend.

Wide Variety of Guests
Love the content of this podcast. Pregnant with my second and recently started listening again. I love binging all types of birth stories and hearing parent journey stories! Bryn can seem dry and uninterested at times but when you listen to enough episodes you’ll see that isn’t the case. I’ve only been turned off by one episode and that was 689.. the mother in that story had such a victim mentality and blamed so many things on so many people. I had to quit 40 minutes in because of her constant complaining and holier than thou attitude, but otherwise I really enjoy these stories!

Omg y’all calm down
No one is trying to erase women. Trans men and non-binary people get pregnant, give birth and feed their babies with their bodies, just like women. Just like you, they deserve to be able to tell their stories. They deserve a space to be heard. You can’t be “all up for inclusion” and then deliberately exclude trans people and non-binary people. I am a cisgendered woman, and I think it is really great that this podcast is taking steps to honor all pregnant and birthing people. If you feel like you are being erased because people who have been historically excluded are finally getting included, that’s a you problem and you need to check your self.

Not a fan of the direction the show is going
I have really appreciated this podcast, it was so nice to listen to stories of different birth experiences throughout my pregnancies and even beyond! But I have recently just been really saddened by the direction the show is going. I know they can’t control everything their guests share/say, but using the phrase “pregnant people” is so demeaning to all of the pregnant moms out there. I also had to turn off the latest podcast pushing the Covid vaccine on pregnant women. I just don’t think guests should be pushing that.

So helpful
I am 30 w pregnant with my first baby right now, prepping for an unmedicated birth and this podcast is so helpful. I feel much more prepared for the work ahead knowing that nearly all parents who go through with unmedicated feel like it was worth it in the end. I also really appreciate how open and nonjudgmental they are and that you can find such a variety of stories. I have chosen to really focus on natural birth stories just to get myself pumped up, but it’s really great that the podcast highlights all methods of birth. Definitely recommend to any pregnant person, birth worker, or anyone curious about the details of pregnancy, L&D, and postpartum. Lastly, I personally love the stories from LGBTQIA+ families. Such a beautiful celebration of diversity 🖤

Love so much but mildly disappointed
I love love love hearing the mothers and their stories on this podcast! The only thing that throws me off is the host never matches enthusiasm with the mothers. I love hearing the pride, excitement, tears etc. of the mother but then the host is always monotone and give canned responses. Makes it feel like she not actually listening.

This podcast has really helped me throughout my pregnancy. Even though I’m straight and in a heterosexual relationship, I really enjoy hearing the birth stories of queer couples, trans, etc. It’s so nice to be part of a community that supports all births!

Erasing Women | So sad
I listened to this podcast a few years ago before it went completely downhill. It used to be such an empowering and great place for mothers and mothers to be to listen to other women’s stories. Unfortunately, with the change in the intro and other comments made - this is no longer a place that truly supports women as being a woman allows for the unique experience of birth. I won’t be listening again.

It is also an incredible resource for those trying to conceive, currently pregnant, and even postpartum. I’m also part of the patreon Facebook group and I’ve never seen a more supportive group of women. I highly recommend!

Erasing Women
I use to love this podcast and have used it as a constant resource during my seasons of pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing. However this new jargon about who births a baby is a delusion that I cannot stand for. Only women give birth. Biological women are the ONLY humans that can grow a baby inside, birth that baby, and feed that baby with her own body. A man cannot do that. If a woman wants to present as a man, let’s call that what it is, but saying men can give birth is incredibly delusional.

Erasing women
Sad to hear the opening of the podcast change and now omitting the word “women.” This is a podcast about women doing what women do. Bringing forth new life! We are able to do amazing things as women but we are being erased at the behest of “trans ideology.” I’m sick over it. Do better.

Love the podcast; disappointed in changes
I love this podcast! It is such a wonderful resource! I have listened regularly for 2+ years. However, I am disappointed in the new intro and some other changes removing the word “women.” My desire is not to make anyone feel excluded, but scientifically, biological women are the only ones capable of giving birth. I am troubled by the movement to erase women and am disappointed that this podcast is adopting more of that type of language. Women should be encouraged to celebrate their unique ability to nurture, carry, and birth new life into the world.

Great birth podcast
I’ve been listening to The Birth Hour for years — even before getting pregnant. It is an amazing podcast where so many people get to tell their birth stories. It’s brought me a lot of reassurance that every pregnancy is different and the host is very intentional in being inclusive. I’ve recommended it to many friends.

The best.
This podcast is the BEST podcast if you are having a baby, thinking about maybe having a baby, if your partner is having a baby, or if you just like hearing people’s birth stories. There is a huge array of stories from vaginal deliveries to c-sections, things going to plan and not going to plan (some car births!), and lots of conditions during pregnancy and post partum that you maybe never heard of. Bryn is a non-judgmental listener and great host.

One of the best podcasts for birthing people. Hosted by a kind, inclusive, supportive person. Variety of stories, interventions, birthing places, care providers - even if you know something is not right for you, it’s so helpful to hear others reasons for their decisions. Such a beneficial listen for learning, choosing, and growing as a human and a birthing person.

Wonderful podcast and resource!
I’ve been listening to the birth hour for a year or so now, and I’m 100% hooked. The raw, real stories shared about births, pregnancies, and postpartum recovery have been incredibly helpful and the raw emotions and vulnerability of those who shared is a real treat. This is a wonderful listen for anyone TTC, enjoying the pregnancy journey, or postpartum and reminiscing about their, or their partners, fertility journeys!

Best pregnancy resource
The Birth Hour was the #1 resource I used during my pregnancy. The diversity of stories helped educate and prepare me more than any book I read. What makes this podcast unique is how the host really steps aside and lets the guest tell their story without a lot of commentary, which allows for a truly authentic storytelling experience, rather than an interview or dialogue which can sometimes derail the narrative. It’s the best birth podcast out there!

Best Podcast Ever
Bryn is the best advocate for anyone preparing for childbirth! I listened to every episode before both of my births and felt so informed and empowered for my births. This podcast is so invaluable and I am so glad Bryn has kept up this great work. She is an awesome host too. She gives her guests the stage for sharing their stories, doesn’t interrupt, or lead or bias any story. Her style allows listeners to become engrossed in the birth story narratives which is so powerful to listen to. I’ve also enjoyed being apart of the online Patreon communities for discussion about childbirth, parenting, postpartum and beyond. Thank you Bryn.

Powerful learning during pregnancy
I’m a birth doula in the Boston area and I recommend both The Birth Hour podcast and the Know Your Options Childbirth Course to all of my clients in preparation for their own birth experience. When we meet for postpartum visits my clients almost always mention how helpful both resources were. I’ve learned so much from the birth stories that has helped me in my doula practice as well. If something comes up with a client that I don’t have a lot of experience with yet, I look up the stories by that topic and learn through their shared experience. Thank you to Bryn and The Birth Hour team for all you do!

Helped prepare for hospital birth after home births
I found myself expecting twins, and not being able to afford the quoted $9k for a twin homebirth. With my first I had a traumatic hospital birth, and then with my next two births I had very healing home births. It was a lot to wrap my head around. Not only was I expecting twins, but now I had to find a new provider, and give birth in a hospital when I said I would never do again. Having to plan a hospital birth brought out a lot of un-healed trauma and anxiety. Listening to the twin birth episodes and the hospital birth episodes made me feel empowered. It helped to hear others experiences, and gave me things to research and bring up to my OB. I ended up having an amazing birth, and even though I made choices I never thought I would make. I still felt empowered because they were MY choices.

Empowering. Must Listen for All Expecting Moms!
Nothing prepared or empowered me more for my own labor and delivery then listening to this podcast. I recommend it to all of my friends. For me, it was so helpful to hear all the different ways that labor and delivery can happen. I am a “knowledge is power” kind of person, and learning all these different scenarios made me feel like I was ready (or as ready as I could ever be). It was also very helpful to know as a pregnant person that I wasn’t on an island but instead part of an amazing community of people when it came to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. I highly highly recommend it for anyone who is interested in childbirth or preparing for it themselves.

So grateful for Bryn and her work!
I’ve been listening to The Birth Hour from the beginning. As a mom of five who has had all Cesarean births, it is so meaningful to me that Bryn is SO inclusive in her work with this show. I’ve been made to feel less-than in so many circles that celebrate birth. From the very beginning, Bryn has made it clear that it’s part of the ethos of this podcast to include birth stories of all kinds. Thank you, thank you, Bryn! I know so many moms like me are so grateful for your vision.

Literally the best resource is hearing stories
Hi friends. The Birth Hour is an amazing resource. The sharing of birth stories in our community is how we all learn and prepare. The good, the bad, the ugly, nothing is TMI here. It is a safe place for all! I personally have learned so much and encourage all parents and parents-to-be to listen. Bryn’s voice is calming and welcoming, she doesn’t interject (only when appropriate), she allows her guests to share their experiences wholeheartedly. She carefully chooses her sponsors which are at the end of each episode and can attest I have tried most of them! I hope this never ends!! Go subscribe you won’t regret it!

This podcast provides stories from all different types of births - in and out of the hospital. People also discuss problems they faced during their pregnancies and births - whether they are common or rare. I have probably listened to more than 100 episodes and each story really helped me understand what could happen with each of my pregnancies and made me feel more prepared/look at my birth from a bigger, more informed picture.

My #1 podcast!
I can’t believe I haven’t written a review before now! I have been listening to the Birth Hour since the very beginning, and it’s consistently been my favorite podcast to listen to. I listen to other podcasts when I don’t have a new Birth Hour episode, and sometimes I’ll go back and listen to an old episode instead. Birth stories are such an important part of my own birth preparation and Bryn does a great job of holding a safe space for all types of stories. Thank you, Bryn! Update: I still love this podcast and I love that Bryn has updated the intro to be more inclusive of all birthing people. Anyone who is preparing to give birth can find value in listening to birth stories, but this is especially true for those who are marginalized in birth culture - those without cisgender, white female bodies need to be represented in the stories we hear and share. Thank you Bryn for helping to make your corner of the birth world a little more inclusive!

I started listening to this podcast before my TTC journey, trying to wrap my head around what it would be like to be pregnant and give birth. Being comfortable with the birth terminology is so important. With so many varied experiences, you get to hear about lots of possible potential twists in your journey. It helped me mentally prepare for my pregnancy and birth, and I cannot thank Bryn enough!

The best birth podcast!
I’ve listened to this podcast through two pregnancies and I have learned so much about pregnancy and childbirth. I felt so much better prepared for my births knowing all the different outcomes that could happen. There’s also a lot of discussion about post partum and breastfeeding as well! I’m still listening even though my daughter is six months and I’m not planning on anymore babies!

Amazing birth resource
I found this podcast when I was pregnant with my first and continued to listen even after having my second child. I’ve learned so much about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum from this podcast. It especially helped with my miscarriage between my first and second child and my high risk pregnancy with my second. It was because of these stories that I understood what was going on, and what expect, and helped me cope with all the stress of miscarrying and then having a baby during the pandemic.

Birth Education through Storytelling
I started listening to the birth hour after having my first baby’s birth not going as I’d hoped. I instantly felt like part of a community and not so alone in my experience. The knowledge I gained through the diversity of other women's experiences shared through the podcast equipped and empowered me to advocate for the birth I wanted with my second baby. Forever grateful for Bryn and the women who share their stories—and now a forever listener!

Must listen!
I started listening to the birth hour a solid 2 years before getting pregnant with our first! Bryn does such a wonderful job of sitting back and letting guests share their experiences. Pregnancy can be scary, especially when everyone in real life loves to share their horror stories, so hearing a wide range of experiences is the best preparation. I especially appreciate how inclusive the podcast is, as it allows the world to hear less traditional experiences in a supportive way that normalizes all types of families and birth.

An invaluable resource for all birthing people
I started listening to this podcast back in 2018 before I was pregnant with my daughter. Hearing such a wide variety of stories from people around the world was hands down the best thing I did to prepare for pregnancy and childbirth. On this podcast you hear everything from all methods of ttc to accidental conception, miscarriage and loss, healthy pregnancies, various symptoms and complications that encompass the whole spectrum of normal to extremely rare, different care options, home births and hospital births, birth center births and car births, and what to expect in the postpartum period. I learned more from this podcast than any book I read or course I took. When both my births took unexpected turns away from my planned birth center deliveries I felt armed with the collective experiences and wisdom from all of the stories I had heard and it truly allowed me to feel empowered and positive, prepared for any outcome, and ready to face the birth and postpartum journeys that would become my own birth stories. I cannot praise this podcast highly enough and am so thankful to Brynn for making this safe space for anyone to share their story.

Informative & Inclusive Resource
I’ve loved this podcast for years - getting to listen to each unique story is a treasure. Having the opportunity to learn about different interventions, options, and preferences (and hearing how people process what comes up in birth) is so helpful in preparing for birth and helps pregnant folks feel connected to each other and those who came before them. I love that the podcast is making moves to be more inclusive to all folks who give birth. Keep up the great work!

This podcast helped me feel prepared to give birth
This podcast really helped me feel prepared for when I gave birth. I really appreciated that I could search for different birthing scenarios based on the titles of each episode. I knew I was going to be induced, so I was able to easily listen to all the induction stories. I also listened to various birthing scenarios so that I could feel prepared if my birthing story took a different turn from what I expected. I think that I would have felt much more scared while in labor if not for listening to this podcast. I also really appreciate the change in the intro to include all birthing people. The hospital where I gave birth used the terms “birthing parent” and “non-birthing parent” and this made me feel safe as a queer person to receive their care. Changing the intro for this podcast makes sure queer families feel safe to tell and listen to stories on The Birth Hour.

Finally!
A podcast of birth stories that doesn’t white wash the experience as all rainbows and unicorns. Conceiving, pregnancy and birth is such a journey and finding pregnancy and birth stories that are actually relatable to me is so refreshing and reassuring. Kudos to the host for her commitment to this podcast reflecting the real experience of people that birth -cisgender birthing people or not. People who carry and birth no matter what gender they identify are pure magic. Thank you for honoring that Bryn!

Incredible Resource & Support
The Birth Hour podcast was there to help engage me in the active participation and planning of my own pregnancy and birth experience and now for number two as well. To have a safe space where people can share their story(ies) and have an active audience ready and anticipating to listen to those stories, is so helpful and healing to so many. This is my absolute favorite podcast! Brynn does a brilliant job of sharing all kinds of birth stories from people all over the world. I felt so prepared going into the birth of my first child after listening to the wide variety of stories and feeling comfortable with whatever might come my way. Even since giving birth I continue to listen to all the new episodes and absolutely love hearing the experience of birthing people from all over! Beautiful resource for raw birth stories
I heard about The Birth Hour from a friend who recently had a baby and leaned heavily upon this podcast to prepare for her own birth. I have since listened to nearly 100 episodes and am left feeling so inspired and in awe of the strength of the storytellers. These stories are beautiful, raw, eye-opening, and encouraging

The birth hour is normalizing birth and talking about birth
The birth hour has been such a supportive resource for me as a mother and birthing person. The work Brynn has done while bringing so many voices out into the world is astounding. The podcast is a loving and open place where women and birthing people can share their stories with no judgment and in a way their voices and narratives are validated. I’ll be forever grateful to this podcast and Brynn for the work she’s done.

Disappointed by the change
I’ve been a Birth Hour listener for years. The stories used to actually reflect the description- positive and empowering. Of course not all stories were perfect painless births with no interventions, but it was still balanced toward stories that actually left one feeling generally good about the birth process. Lately, it seems that there is one positive, empowering story for every ten with some traumatic twist. I’m sad and disappointed by the change.

Episodes are informative, but…
Can we stop using the terms “birthing person” and “birthing people”? Birth is exclusive to women. It doesn’t need to include other groups, because only WOMEN give birth. Let’s not virtue signal for the sake of it, please.

Fantastic Resource
I began listening to The Birth Hour when TTC and have continued through the birth of my 2 sons. I appreciate Bryn’s style as she doesn’t impose herself upon the mother’s story, but rather sits as a quiet presence allowing the mother to share her story. Overall it’s a great resource to hear diversity in birth.

Helpful stories, but the hosts voice is unbearable
I enjoy listening to other women’s experiences to help prepare for possible scenarios in my own birth. However, the hosts voice is SO hard to listen to. Her vocal fry is unbearable and she sounds so bored the whole time. I appreciate her hosting the show but she seems so bored and always just reply’s with “yeahhhhh” to every comment. I feel like getting a more engaged and enthusiastic host or co host could help add more value to the show.

Where WOMEN share childbirth stories
Definitely noticed the change to the intro. Can’t say I didn’t see that coming. Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding are exclusively female experiences and part of our perfect design. To distort that is shameful.

Dissapointing
I have listened to this podcast for years and enjoyed it a lot. I am so disappointed that Bryn redid her intro to the podcast to take out the word "Women." This movement to erase women is so frustrating and I'm dissapointed to see it in the birth space. This is the place where women, not men, shine in their ability to give life and to have that taken away is incredibly demeaning.

Helped me prepare for labor!
I loved listening to every positive story I could get my hands on while I took long walks or worked during my pregnancy. It gave me so much more confidence going into labor, and it is so cool to see how every story is so different with its own twists and turns. My own labor story definitely was different than expected! There is so much power in sharing our stories, the human body is incredible and we are so much stronger than we think. Birth is so empowering and inspirational! Love this podcast.

Great content except for the sneaky MLM Sales Pitch
I love the podcast content provided by the experts and the parents who participate. I have bought products recommended by Brynn and her guests including the experts who chat at the end of each episode. I was surprised after several mentions of Brynn’s essential oil recommendations that the name she refers to is actually a DBA for her selling Young Living’s products. Not only was the realization that she was rather sneakily pitching MLM products, but YL specifically is a company that isn’t trustworthy. I have a icky feeling from that, but again the overall content is great... I have just lost some trust for product recommendations from this podcast.

Not informative
I listened to this podcast the last few months of my pregnancy. It’s good if you listen to it as fiction but don’t count on it for learning anything about birth. Even the episodes where experts talk there are no mentions of risks or enough details. Same approach as all other media these days, glorifying vaginal birth, not informing women of risks and adding to the idea that the more you suffer giving birth the more of a super mom/woman you are.

I found this podcast soon after my first child’s birth almost 4 years ago, and I have listened to every single episode. Bryn is a great host, and the audio quality is excellent. I always recommend this podcast to expectant parents, because it tells every birth story imaginable. Best tool to help me through me labor!
This podcast is so amazing! It’s the group of women sharing birth stories that modern times is so badly lacking and is very much needed! It helped me see that it is possible to have a beautiful birth when it didn’t go as I planned and I am so grateful that I had so many stories in my head as I labored to help me find peace with the decisions I needed to make. Forever grateful to Bryn and the women that share their experiences.

Amazing for first time moms!
I discovered this podcast in my third trimester as I was trying to find something to listen to while I was walking. I quickly became addicted and listened to stories on the way to work, home from work, and on all my walks. It helped me have a realistic view of birth and to normalize it so it wasn’t something I feared so much. I listened to a podcast about someone having a foley bulb to induce labor. I ended up having a foley bulb to induce labor and felt so prepared as to what to expect. My daughter is almost a year old and I still listen to podcasts doing dishes and driving! So grateful for this podcast and recommend it all the time to friends having babies!

Love it!
I started listening to the birth hour back in January and I’ve been hooked since. I’m currently TTC my first baby and I’m also training to be a doula so the variety of stories is amazing. I enjoy that some people are really in to unmedicated natural births and that others chose a medicated birth or even a cesarean! I also like that the moms who didn’t get the birth they envisioned can share that and not feel like they need to hide that for others. While reading through the other reviews, many people claim they don’t like that Brynn uses patreon and that all episodes/other content should just be available to us. The way I look at it as many of us subscribe to many things. Many people pay for cable but also pay for streaming services to get extras. Many people buy groceries but still go out to eat sometimes. If you like the podcast, you’ll pay the extra money per month to support it (Just think of it as two less trips to Starbucks per month!). If you don’t like it, just don’t pay for it and listen to the new episodes 😊 One last thing, I absolutely love Brynn! She’s so kind and you can reach out to her with questions and she’ll get back to you quickly. To me, there’s not too many people out there who are like her. I hope to share my birth story on the podcast one day ♥️

More Engagement From Host Needed
As I prepare for the arrival of my second child, I’ve really enjoyed listening to this podcast. It really does a great job highlighting a variety of birth stories - from inductions, to home births, to unmedicated hospital births. I struggle with the hosts lack of engagement with her guests. She has three or four scripted questions that she asks and rarely responds to the stories of the interviewees. It’s just uncomfortable when someone is sharing their emotions, they pause for engagement from the host, and it’s crickets.

Have loved listening...one suggestion
I have loved listening to this podcast through both of my pregnancies. I would love to hear more positive caesarean stories. I am having my second by caesarean for previa after planning for an unmedicated birthing center birth, and it would be great to hear more stories from women who had positive experiences with medically necessary interventions. Thanks for all you do Brynn in educating and empowering women through this platform!

Hosts
The stories are great and I really enjoy listening to the guests on the podcast. The hosts however are awful! They seem disengaged, and cut the guests off frequently. The hosts also seem completely uneducated and clueless when it comes to birth. In some episodes the hosts can’t even name things such as prodromal labor, fetal fibrobectin tests, etc. I just feel like if you’re going to have a podcast about birth, then you as a host should be educated in the birth process.

I have been listening for about a year. What an incredible resource! I am a new lay birth doula at my hospital. I really appreciate the intentionality of choosing diverse experiences. The common threads of the power of women, the awe of birth, and love is palpable.I am so curious about how you find, choose, and vett your guests because they are all such wonderful storytellers. I never review podcasts because I figure everyone else will. But when I saw that this podcast only had 1500 reviews I felt I needed to. I listened to this podcast constantly when I was pregnant with baby number 1. Now, I’ve started listening again in preparation for number 2. Great stories, outros could be better
I love hearing the stories of women from all walks of life on this podcast. I agree with other reviewers critique however that it can feel like the host disengages from the women during the birth stories, especially towards the end of the story it fees like some people are cut off to get to the sponsors or that the host isn’t fully present. That’s a bit of a bummer considering what’s being discussed. Other than that this podcast is a great resource.

I love hearing the broad selection of births - you can find anything you want - medicated, unmedicated, vaginal, cesarean, hospital, home, etc. I had some issues with my blood pressure during the end of my pregnancy, so I just got on the website and search terms related and was able to listen to so many other women who had had similar experiences, which was so comforting and gave me lots of ideas for taking care of myself.

Bryn is great. MLMs are bad
I love this podcast! I love the stories and voices that are highlighted here! I don’t love anyone touting their MLMs/pyramid schemes like Young Living (which has been reprimanded by the FDA, is known to have questionable EO procurement practices, and overall MLMs target vulnerable women). Sponsors are fine. Having a patreon is fine. MLMs are NOT ok. If you need more on this, listen to “The Dream” podcast (season 1), or simply search. Women look to “The Birth Hour” to be part of a community, for a safe place, for shared experiences and solidarity...I hope women can continue to have this as a safe place to listen to stories without predatory MLMs sneaking in there. Drop YL. Keep those OG sponsors!

Changed
I have listened to this podcast from the beginning and have enjoyed it, however, it gets very old being reminded that episodes are not available to you unless you’re a patron. It seems particularly insensitive at this time. There are so many wonderful birth podcast that don’t constantly beat the $ drum. I certainly haven’t come across any that blatantly emphasize, to it’s listeners, all they are missing by not sending money.

This podcast has been absolutely invaluable to me throughout my pregnancy and especially right now during this bizarre time of COVID. Bryn provides a safe space for women to talk, judgement free, about the full spectrum of birth experiences and I feel so knowledgeable and prepared for the possibility of really anything. As a FTM during a pandemic, I know i need to be prepared for any and everything to happen and from listening to the birth hour I really feel like I know my options and how to advocate for myself whether I have the birth I am imagining or have tot take some detours along the way. Hmmm. Just listened to the latest episode (Melanie) and was rather turned off by her snide “religious music” comment. Invaluable podcast for mamas to be!
This podcast has been one of the biggest game changers for me as I prep for the birth of my first child this July 2020. I first approached pregnancy nervous and a bit fearful of what was in store for me and my body. I found the Birth Hour and within the first few episodes I began to feel informed, positive, empowered and hopeful for the journey ahead. It has helped me weigh different options for my own birth just through the stories of others. What I love most is that it lays out so many different possible outcomes or paths that others walk on, so you can take their words of advice and decide what is most in line with your own vision and philosophy. I have recommended this podcast to all of my expecting friends and even some who aren’t! Thank you Birth Hour and Bryn for guiding me on this amazing journey and giving me the tools to plan for the birth that is right for me and my baby!

I recommend it to everyone!
I am an AVID listener to The Birth Hour. I’ve listened to every single episode and some multiple times! When my first birth ended up in a premature emergency C-section, I was prepared. Not because I had planned for it, but because I had listened to dozens of stories about cesareans and how they work. For my second birth I planned a VBAC and learned from the women who had also had VBACs. I think it’s so valuable to hear birthing people share their stories and I love the way Bryn listens to them with no judgment. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Hopeful!
I LOVE this podcast! My wife and I are attempting to conceive and this podcast gives me so much hope that someday we’ll have our own birth story. And is so educational that when we do get pregnant I’ll be ready with possible scenarios and how to handle them. Thank you so much!

I am changed
I am so so glad I found this podcast, and so appreciative that this collection of experiences exists for myself and others. Only one month ago I was absolutely terrified and disgusted at the prospect of pregnancy and birth. I mean truly really mortified. My husband and I recently decided we want to start trying for a baby. I love podcasts so naturally I started looking for some content to listen to in preparation. I listen at work so I had the opportunity to binge many many hours of this show at once and I am not exaggerating when I say that this show has absolutely transformed me. I was so ignorant before, the only birth stories that I had heard before were horror stories told to me by older women who relished in seeing me squirm and cringe. Hearing these women’s experiences has made me excited for my future pregnancy and even excited for my future birth experience. I also feel ready for anything to happen because this show has taught me that truly anything can happen, plans and ideals thrown aside. Thankyou so much for this show, I am really truly grateful.

Best Birth Podcast
I seriously love the birth hour, no joke!! It’s unlike any other birth podcasts as it gets straight to the point! No interruptions or going off track and talking about other things. Doesn’t get boring or have a couple ppl talking at once. Very straight forward birth stories. I could listen on repeat everyday. I learn something new with each podcast and look forward to new ones every week!! Thank you birth hour!!! ❤️❤️ I’m so glad I found you!!

Amazing
This podcast is amazing. Thank you for creating a safe space for birth stories to be shared. I have learned so much about different births and how unique and personal the experience is. I also appreciate that there are international experiences shared since the health system and views on birth can vary. This has also helped me heal from my daughters birth since it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting or hoping for.

Lovely birth stories-host seems uninterested
I love listening to the journeys of other moms. It truly helps many women in all walks of life, including me! I’m in my 3rd trimester and listen to the podcast on my daily commute. The only criticism I have for the podcast is for the host. She seems uninterested with every single guest, says maybe a sentence or two when listening to women tell their stories. If she would ask a few more probing questions we may get more from these women’s journeys that they forget to mention. When promoting her sponsors she is very enthusiastic, kinda a bummer for me when I listen to her speak to guests as if it’s a burden.

I listened to this podcast before we got pregnant, throughout my pregnancy, and now after our son was born. It was so helpful in preparing me for all the possible outcomes with our birth! Ours didn’t go as planned and I felt much more at ease because I had prepared for a variety of different situations from listening to different birth stories. Bryn does an amazing job and the stories are beautiful. highly recommend, even if you aren’t expecting!

Great podcast for birth geeks! I love hearing all the different birth stories. It helps a ton to know what kinds of things can happen in labor and how other women handled those experiences. There is such a wide variety of stories- it’s not just natural, unmedicated births. There’s elective c-sections, elective inductions, unplanned pregnancies, loss, infertility stories- everything!

I found this podcast at the beginning of my second pregnancy! As a second time mom I thought I knew everything about pregnancy and labor & delivery but boy was I wrong! It has been so enlightening and eye opening listening to all these beautiful stories of triumphs and tribulations! I no joke have listened to one a day for the last 200 plus days; I just can’t get enough! Thank you for giving us this platform to discuss one of the most beautiful albeit difficult times in our lives!

Inspiring
I found this podcast only after I gave birth to my daughter- but I am soooo hooked! I’m a self proclaimed “birth nerd” and single mom to the craziest 2.5 year old- as I start my journey to becoming a mom for the 2nd time (solo mom style) I love to listen to all the variations on the birth experience provided on this podcast. I myself had a really great first birth, but who knows what the second time around will hold. I feel like this podcast is going to prepare me to be able to advocate even more for myself. Thank you Bryn and thank you to all the mamas sharing their journeys. This podcast is love ❤️

The power in this podcast is amazing
When I was pregnant with my son I was experiencing a ton of perinatal anxiety and didn’t even realize it. I couldn’t bring myself to picture my birth or even listen to other birth stories out of fear. In my third trimester it subsided a little and I was able to bring myself to listen. Since then, I have listened to this podcast at least once a day on my drive to work for the past year. Quite literally, almost every single day. This podcast has brought me so much peace and understanding to my birth that all my birthing lessons couldn’t teach me. Reading facts about birth and labor is beneficial, but hearing context, and emotion, and experience is 1,000 times more important. This podcast brings value to those facts, and Bryn has brought that to light. It sounds silly but I feel emotionally attached to this podcast. I feel like I have fallen into a club of amazing women centered around what I’ve wanted my entire life —motherhood. If you are nervous about birth or motherhood, please push through any fear you may (or may not) have. You don’t have to be scared, and you don’t have to feel guilty for being scared. You have a thousands of other women going through similar experiences, you have choices, and more importantly you have a voice. I’m going to stop now, because I could gush about this podcast all day long.

Unfiltered, Educational, and Heartwarming
I have always been interested in birth, and began listening to this podcast before I was pregnant with my first child, back in 2016. I’m still a consistent listener. Bryn has created an incredibly special place for people to share their birth stories, no matter what they may be. This is both an amazing educational resource and a safe space of therapeutic storytelling - I am still so moved whenever I hear someone express a feeling I remember from my own birth, and it was two and a half years ago! I recommend this podcast to all of my expecting friends. Thank you, Bryn, from the bottom of my heart! This podcast helped me to recognize that I was ready to acknowledge my yearning to be a mother, and I am so grateful.

This podcast was such a valuable resource for me during my first pregnancy. It was so encouraging and informative to listen to every possible birth scenario you could imagine. I have been listening to this podcast for about month. I think it’s a great podcast especially for first time moms (me!) but I couldn’t help but notice the lack of diversity. Pregnant with my first I found myself having some intense birth anxiety and fear. Of course when anyone knows you are pregnant they tell you all the horror birth stories and that does not help. I’ve found this podcast to be extremely helpful and soothing. It helps bring light to the beauty in all birth experiences and that it should not be met with fear. I appreciate this positive space to hear all different birth stories and how unique and special each one is. Thank you for easing my anxiety

Biased towards “natural birth”
Informative and the host is good at guiding the story. However, almost every story is about a non-medicated birth or mom in pursuit of. I feel like the podcast could do a better job of including stories from moms who have other ideas for their birth rather than quietly pushing “natural birth” without really sharing its benefits.

I really like this podcast so far but am disappointed by the lack of voices from women of color. I’ll keep listening but hope efforts are made to diversify the guests so its more representative.

About two years ago, I thought to myself “Why not hear more about it?” A few years and all of the available episodes of the Birth Hour later, I am still so thrilled to listen to new episodes, re-broadcasted episodes, etc. Bryn is a phenomenal interviewer who gives space to story teller’s to craft and own their experience. Like a lot of women who listen to this podcast, I started before even had kids! I am now 27 weeks and feel so enlightened having spent the last 1.5 years educating myself through listening to other experiences. It’s prompted me to do my own research on topics I’ve never heard before and to become informed. Their are so many takeaway tidbits. I appreciate how Brynn asks what the interviewee recommends at the end of each episode. Speaking of Bryn, she is a great podcast host. At first, I thought she was so quiet and sometimes sounding a little “dull”. But guess what, I now compare other interviewers to her because she is such a great listeners and makes interruptions only when necessary. I simply adore her! Great info for a first time mom
I am so grateful for this podcast! I am expecting a baby in a couple months and I feel like I have only heard of the horrors of birth and it made me terrified to be in labor. Though it seems that this podcast is over representing of women who want “natural” births, I think this could be because so many more women are choosing these types of births. It has been nice for me to here so many success stories of women who had unmedicated and “low intervention” deliveries because everyone I have ever knows have had what many would consider “high intervention” births. I thought this was my only option until I started listening to this podcast and started to hear how many options there are for women to have their babies the way they want to. I can’t wait to listen to every episode!

I love this podcast because it gives such a broad-spectrum view of pregnancies and births, mostly in the US but also some perspectives from other countries. At times beautiful, at times difficult, and always educational, this gives me so many tools to consider as I prepare (a few years out) for my own pregnancy and birth. Wonderful beautiful work! Best resource and preparation for ALL kinds of birth!
I am currently pregnant with my second baby. I listened to this podcast throughout my first pregnancy while planning a minimal intervention hospital birth and this podcast gave me and my husband so much knowledge of how to go about that and how other women advocated for themselves. Well, when my birth plan went completely opposite of what I hoped, this podcast still helped me! There were so many stories of adoptive birth, surrogacy, birth with LGBTQ parents, birth with single mothers, birth with loss( don’t worry, she prepares you before the episode if you want to skip it), an accidental car birth!, home birth, birth center, hospital birth, with interventions, with epidurals, and stories of c-sections both planned and unplanned! And stories of vaginal birth after cesarean, that gave me so much hope for future births. Even though my birth ended in an emergency c-section, I still felt very prepared for what was happening to me. I absolutely adore how each woman tells her story(ies) with so much truth and empowerment. It has helped me plan even more for the birth of my second baby, and encouraged me seek out better care for me and my baby. I recommend this podcast to all new ana expectant moms!!! Thank you, Bryn for creating this space.

It was good until made me feel guilty
So I started to listen to this podcast not long ago. At the beginning all the stories made me almost cry because they all were very emotional and intense as any childbirth should be. The thing is that there were some stories where the complete “no intervention” desires of the mother just became no sense to me. I understand their wishes were important but there is nothing more important Than the health and wellbeing of your baby. Women sometime share their stories in a way that makes you feel bad for wanting to have an epidural or not waiting hours at home before going to the hospital before your water breaks.

I’ve been listening to this podcast for 2 years now and haven’t missed an episode. Every story is unique and wonderful but what I love most is that there is no judgement - EVERY birth is beautiful whether it’s in a hospital with a cesarean or in your home in a tub. I’ve yet to start a family but consider myself a birth junkie, I love everything about it - and this podcast has made me feel empowered and prepared for when I take that next step. Hearing the stories is amazing and inspiring but at the end every guest is encouraged to provide resources that helped them through pregnancy/4th trimester and it’s such an incredible way for women to support each other. Essential for any pregnant person!
This podcast gave me more information than any book I read about birth and postpartum. It helped me know what questions to ask and how to find a care provider and what things were important to me for my birth. So important to understand that all the preparation in the world won’t let you know how your birth is going to go, but that knowledge is definitely power and you have to know how to advocate for yourself in the US healthcare system! When I went to a birth class during a break another expecting couple asked me how I knew so much (because of the questions I was asking) and I explained that it was all because of the Birth Hour! I did read several books during my pregnancy, but I knew which books to read because of the wonderful recommendations from the show.

Love this podcast!
I wish I’d found this resource BEFORE my daughter was born! This is a place to learn everything no one tells you in a calm and supportive environment. I feel like I would have been more prepared for labor and delivery if I’d been able to tap into all these stories of the women who are so brave and vulnerable in sharing their stories. Thank you Bryn!

Eh. Misleading description.
I was looking for a podcast that reflects a real cross section of birth stories, which is what this podcast advertises itself as being, but it really is overwhelmingly the birth stories of those who had-- or badly wanted to have-- unmedicated or non-interventionist births. I don't know if the selection bias is conscious on the part o the producer or just the result of other forces (maybe those are just the kinds of people who are most excited to share their birth stories?), but it seems creepy and misleading to me to present a set of stories with such a clear bent as just a RANDOM selection of EVERYONE's birth stories.

Has completely shifted my view on birth
So grateful to have found this podcast. It's completely shifted my view on birth from complete and utter fear to a sense of empowerment. The only downside for me is her voice.....it's like she's talking too quiet and it's all scratchy/blocked and valley-girl-ish and it drives me slightly crazy 😳Luckily it's usually other women talking for the majority of the podcast so I don't have to hear it too much. Just had to say it so maybe she'll speak up some because I do love the show! 😬

Obsessed is an understatement
I absolutely love The Birth Hour! I’m not a mom (yet) but hope to be one someday in the not so distant future. I’m currently training to be a doula and I’ve been listening to The Birth Hour non-stop. Almost every story makes me cry. I hope you continue this amazing podcast forever Brynn 🤗

I’ve been listening to this podcast for a few months as I progress on my full spectrum doula and midwifery journey. Brynn does a wonderful job bringing forth a diverse collection of birth stories. Without judgement or criticism, each guest shares their experience and allows listeners a peek into their intimate lives. Recommended to all my doula community and anyone curious about birth!

Awesome podcast- sound critique
This is a fantastic podcast! As a woman who hopes to be a mother in the future it has expanded my knowledge and intrigued my interest of the birth world. Due to all the driving I do for work, I listen to many podcasts each day. I always struggle with the sound on The Birth Hour. I often have to turn it way up or way down compared to the other podcasts or even within one episode. On the most recent episode (Born Into This) I couldn’t turn it up loud enough to hear it at the end. Thanks for all you do.

And so my birth obsession began..
I began listening 1 1/2 years ago when I was on my way home from my first labor and delivery clinical of nursing school. I was amazed by what I had just witnessed and could not wait to learn more, so I searched “birth” in the podcast app and found this gem! I could not stop listening and my addiction to all things birth began. I am now an RN, birth doula, and have plans to get my masters to become a certified nurse midwife. Thanks for all you do and for helping me realize the passion that I didn’t know I had!

Addicting
I LOVE listening to these women tell their stories! My only slight pet peeve about the podcast is how the host typically only seems to connect and empathize with guests talking about a natural home birth. I do appreciate how 99% of the talking is done by the actual guest telling her story, but it just feels awkward when there is like no response from Bryn as women will often share something emotional and kind of pause for a response and then silence. This is especially noticeable when it’s a hospital birth story being told. Maybe I’m just more sensitive to that because I personally empathize more with the hospital birth stories (but then don’t 90% of listeners most likely??). This slight annoyance is not enough to keep me from listening every single week of my pregnancy though. :)

Podcast has changed since it began
It used to be a lot of different birth stories with mom and dad parents when this podcast started which I loved! It has now become a lot of same sex parents birth stories. I just personally don’t agree with that so I have unsubscribed, which is disappointing because I love hearing all kinds of birth stories otherwise!

Great podcast, great stories. However I'm having a hard time getting past the host' voice. She truly sounds like she's ready to fall asleep or just isn't into it. Please try and make yourself sound a little more enthusiastic. Other than that great stories.

Birth Junkie Heaven
I discovered The Birth Hour when my first baby was almost a year old and I was starting to think about my next pregnancy and birth. I became very interested in all things pregnancy and birth after having my own baby and this podcast is incredibly enjoyable and educational. I recommend this podcast to anyone and everyone who is having or has had a baby, especially first time moms who are trying to plan and prepare for their own births. Thank you for creating a place where moms can share their stories and learn from/support each other!

Changed my pregnancy for the better!
I can honestly say that this podcast is almost solely responsible for the way in which my pregnancy and birth unfolded in such a beautiful way. I so appreciate how Bryn interviews women with a variety of experiences and how she does so in a non-judgmental format. The different experiences combined with the helpful resources she includes were the perfect combination that led to an informed and empowered experience for me. I’m not sure how I would have found so many helpful resources and derived such encouragement for my own birth experience without this podcast. Thank you so much Bryn for what you are doing!

Great podcast, with one exception.
Truly one of my favorite podcasts, feeds the birth nerd in me like nothing else. I love that the podcast highlights all kinds of births and all kinds of families. My only complaint, not really a complaint just a note- the host does not really react or converse with the storytellers, I’m guessing it’s intentional however there are some moments in these stories that really call for some dialogue or at the least a reaction and it can feel a little bizarre and awkward to not hear that. That being said I do love Bryn, and her very rare deadpan comments do make me laugh, maybe I just want more Bryn in the episodes. ;)

Inspiring podcast!
I’m 35 weeks pregnant with my second and have been loving the opportunity to listen to powerful birth stories as a way to get in a good head space leading up to labor. As Bryn mentions, I too read birth story after birth story when pregnant with my first, but now with an active toddler to manage it’s so nice to be able to listen on the go. Thanks for making this awesome resource available! And I love how many episodes there are. I don’t feel like I have to ration them at all :).

Women encouraging and supporting women
In today's society, we have a problem of being too alone in the world. Especially as mothers, we need to connect, support each other, and share our stories to have fulfillment. We are meant to be in community. This blog does an awesome job of bringing women together at least through technology, if not in real life. This is how tech should be used--to support and lift us up as humans! Thanks on behalf of all women for the support and inspiration.

Lacking inclusivity.
I am torn on this Podcast. There is an obvious tone of favoritism to those that have unmedicated births, birth center births, or home births as the stories about hospitals & doctors are mostly held in an extremely un-positive light. While it should be an inclusive Podcast for all mothers it really is not. And part of the problem is in the language. When one says “natural birth” they are telling every mother who has an epidural or c-section that they are having an unnatural birth or that their child is unnatural. “Interventions” are actually tools to assist bringing a baby into the world. And I completely agree there are doctors & nurses out there who lack the emotional skills to assist a mother through their birth & should learn to open their ears to a mother’s wishes & there are cases where the tools do seem unnecessary, but it’s unfortunate that this Podcast doesn’t highlight positive birth stories of mothers who utilize medical tools in the same way it does home births. Just like we have a large problem in this country where we not only criticize women for breast feeding in public AND criticize women who don’t breast feed, we also have a problem with how we speak about childbirth whether you have an epidural or birth in the woods. We need to change the language & I would hope this Podcast did that but it just doesn’t. It does offer some great information & lovely stories across all avenues but it can also be extremely hurtful in its language. I don’t at all believe the intention is to be hurtful but sadly it really can be & is clear they prefer stories of unmedicated births in birthing centers or at home. I hope one day as women we can change the language surrounding motherhood to be inclusive to all.

I'm expecting my first baby in December and have listened to most of the episodes Bryn has released. I have learned so much about what birth can look like and how it is so individual. Disappointed
I have to change my review to 2 stars sadly.. I started listening to this podcast when it was still fairly new. And looked forward to a time when I too could share what I went through. I was so excited to share my birth stories on here since it is "a safe place for all women to come together and share their birth stores". I excitiedly contacted Bryn after my second child was born, filed out an application, wrote a great review like she asked and waited.. Waited 2 months. Wrote her. Asked if she had gotten my application. She put me off. I probably tried to contact her a few other times. It has been over a year. After listening to this podcast during my pregnancies I wasn't even allowed to participate.. I had thought this was a safe place for all women. I so get that putting on this on is a lot of work. And I appreciated this podcast so much for so long.. looking forward to the next weeks new episode and what adivce I could learn from other womens births. I am so crushed that I was pushed aside.

Episode 97
Thank you to you and Jenna for sharing her story. I just lost my daughter Emery 3 weeks ago and I found so many parallels in Jenna's story. My whole pregnancy people kept commenting on how small I was and the last few weeks of my pregnancy I went in for fetal monitoring because I felt like she had slowed down. They also told me that her placenta was small and that there was possible IUGR. I'm still in my frustration with the situation. But your story helped me feel some peace.

Such a well done podcast! I have listened to just about all of the episodes and found them so encouraging during my recent pregnancy. I learned so much (& this isn't my first rodeo). True Life Stories Here
If you're interested in all things birth and birth-focused, you should listen to this podcast. The stories are unique to the women who share them, and at the same time, we as listeners are left to digest the stories on our own- the curator, Bryn, does an exccelent job of providing a forum for discussion, without guiding a discussion at all. The food for thought here is excellent, and the information flows from these stories. Its become a bright spot in my week to listen to the variety of experiences. I subscribed during pregnancy, and I still look forward to listening almost a year postpartum. This was a wonderful companion resource when I was pregnant: I would listen to these stories, and research the variety of topics that were mentioned, and over time, I learned SO MUCH and felt super confident that I had the birth I was meant to have because I was well informed and I knew what my options were. You will be super prepared for what to expect for your birth, whatever "type" of birth you have. In hearing what all of these women are saying as part of a larger community of sisters makes this collective experience of upcoming (and current!) motherhood a special and more meaningful one. Stay strong fellow mamas, and tell your stories!

Best Pregnancy Podcast
This is, hands down, the resource that is most useful to me during my pregnancy right now. I'm about half way in my pregnancy and doing tons of research. Every story has suggested resources leading me down the magnificent rabbit hole that is birth and pregnancy research. But the number one thing that listening to all of these amazing women does is shows you how different birth can be for every woman. We have choices! It's taught me that being informed and realizing that I have options is what will help me the most when I eventually give birth to my baby in November. Thank you so much for creating this amazing podcast. I'm not sure what I would do without it!!

Great resource for pregnant women
I am learning so much from this podcast and appreciate the diversity of experiences from the women who have contributed their stories! While I have friends who have recently given birth, in a way it can be easier to hear an honest experience from a complete stranger. Many of the women interviewed on this podcast experienced some form of "natural" birth, which is not my plan, but I still appreciate hearing about their experiences and feel that it will help me make an even more informed decision for myself. Keep up the great work.

Loved listening to this at nine months!
When I was nearing the end of my pregnancy, I was definitely getting anxious. Even though this was my second, I felt like all of a sudden I had forgotten too much from having my first and I needed to listen to labor and delivery stories as a refresher. This podcast was perfect. The host does a great job of letting the guests tell their stories without interruption or any sort of needless commenting. This was such a help and as I'm holding my newborn in my arms now, I wanted to send a 5-star review as a thank you. Also, this is the first podcast I've heard (and I listen to a ton) that I've enjoyed the sponsors so much. The Earth Mama Angel Baby New Mama Bottom Spray is AWESOME! So much variety.
I love this podcast because Bryn interviews so many mothers no matter what their birth story is. I was worried that this podcast may be geared to home births and I was completely wrong. Yes, there are quite a few women who have home births but there are also stories about unmedicated births at the hospital, medicated births, EVERYTHING! There is no Mom shaming, just stright up real and raw birth stories. I'm preparing for my 3rd and final deliver and my first unmedicated birth and this podcast will take me there!

Baby loves listening too!
So my now three-month-old baby likes to be on the go and requires lots of bouncing, preferably in my arms. This brought about bouncing sessions for hours on end, which became mind-numbingly boring for me. Out of desperation, I began looking around for a good podcast to listen to and stumbled upon the rare gem that is The Birth Hour! I started listening and soon became a birth story junkie. Well, baby began to like the soothing, conversational style of each episode and it would often put her to sleep. Since the introduction is the same, she automatically calms down every time she hears it and takes it as her cue for nap time. So something that helps baby sleep and engages Mommy's mind? Win-win!!! We like to joke that her first words will be "labor," "epidural," "contractions," etc. :) So give it a listen - it may be just the thing for you AND your baby!

Best podcast as an expecting mama
Such an empowering podcast to listen to as a first time mama-to-be. I love that it covers a wide array of different types of births under different circumstances and settings, all told from the mother's perspective. One of the many useful tools I'm using to prepare for a natural birth at a birthing center, and it brings me to tears more often than not with each beautiful and unique story.

Great for all moms!
I am due to have my second planned home birth any day now, and I started listening to this podcast during this pregnancy. I don't remember where I heard about it, but I am glad I did. I love that Bryn covers birth stories of all kinds. So often, I feel that women feel like they are lesser if they have a medicated hospital birth or a cesarean. I have strong feelings about this, as I feel that any woman who gives birth to a human being, no matter how she does it, is a strong and amazing woman, and she should feel as such. The stories I hear on this podcast are empowering, and the women who tell them wear their birth story like a badge of honor, as they should. Thank you Bryn for continuing your hard work in spreading stories that inspire.

I'm in Love!
I really can't say enough good things about Bryn's podcast! It was a wonderful resource for my 3rd labor and delivery, and I'm still listening 6 months postpardum. I've laughed, cried tears of joy, and tears of grief. Bryn has created a truly safe place for women to share their stories. Every birth is unique and the experiences shared reflect that truth. I've listened to home births, hospital births, water births, planned c-sections, breech births and more. The expected and unexpected! Not every woman can make the decisions I made for labor and delivery and not every woman wants to....that's one thing I've learned listening to The Birth Hour.

Started listening to this when I was pregnant and learned a lot about what to expect but mostly that you need to inform yourself, make a plan but also be ready to let go of it as births tend to do what they will. Still addicted!

Great resource
This has been a great resource in these last few months of pregnancy. My partner and I love hearing so many different stories of pregnancy, labor and delivery - we learn so much! I wish there were more lgbtq families represented, but otherwise this is a great podcast!

Empowering birth stories
Love listening to these stories. It is so empowering to listen to such a diverse group of women recall their birth experiences! Something for everyone-from home home births to hospitals, unmedicated to c-sections.

Obsessed!
I am so so so happy I found the birth hour!! I went into pregnancy knowing nothing about birth. Found the podcast at about 33 weeks pregnant and it completely rocked my world! So empowering and so informative! I learned so much and was able to go into labor with NO FEAR! Giving birth to my son was such an incredible, life-changing experience and I owe a lot of that to the birth hour!! 5 stars all around! 🙌🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻

My all time favorite podcast
I found this podcast when it was fairly new and have since listened to every episode and look forward to new ones each week. The Birth Hour was my best friend during my second pregnancy as I searched for confidence to give birth for the second time. Each story is unique and the women create a wealth of experience, strength and hope that I carried into my birth. Some of the things women said even came to mind while I was in labor and pulled me through. It was so much more valuable than childbirth classes were the first time around.

Needed
First, this is the first review I have written of a podcast. iTunes doesn't make it easy. I happened to find this podcast through searching iTunes. I had a c-section about six years ago. I really have enjoyed hearing the stories on here about other women's experiences with that particular type of birth. I had a healthy baby and no complications with my surgery, however it was still traumatic and shocking. I'm only giving 4 stars because Bryn's tone of voice .... she sounds bored and far away from the microphone. I know she is not bored so maybe there is something she can do to liven her tone up, and I know that she has small kids so maybe she is trying to be quiet while they nap. Either way I love this podcast!

BEST PODCAST EVER
Where do I even begin? I am 20 years old and no where near close to having children..BUT I FREAKING LOVE this podcast! People my age think I am such a weirdo or gross because I listen to Birth Stories, but I feel empowered because of how knowledgeable I am about birth at a relatively "young" age from listening to this podcast! My friends and I talk about everything under the sun and many of them have older siblings that have babies or are pregnant. We always talk about how our lives will be with children and we even sometimes talk about birth. I always feel so knowledgable talking about this because I have listened to almost all of these episodes. I also LOVE to show them pictures on The Birth Hour's Instagram and how their faces light up because they also agree how beautiful they are (although some girls think its gross, but I assure them that its what women were made to do!). I seriously feel like we Bryn and I are friends or something because I have listened so much and she is the sweetest! I am so interested in birth now and I think it is soo beautiful and so normal. In fact, anyone that I know is pregnant, I always recommend listening to this podcast because it is so amazing! And I keep asking them if they listened so I make sure that they do haha! Anyways, I just wanted to thank this podcast for allowing me to be so knowledgable about my future births so many years in advanced. I now know what kind of birth I want and why. Hopefully, when I have babies, I will be able to share my birth stories with Bryn and be featured on this podcast! A must-listen to show!

Queer future midwife obsessed with this podcast
The reason I got into podcasts is The Birth Hour! It's everything I ever wanted. I get to listen to birth stories all day, but it's not overly positive or cheesy. This is real life with real women. I love how wonderful the women are that come on and tell their stories. Every episode is different and I appreciate it. My favorite episodes are the ones with Midwives telling their stories. I would like to hear more from Queer parents. I've only heard one episode with a same-sex couple, and it wasn't even a full episode. Polyamorous triads, Transgender parents, Queer people of color, and gay and lesbian couples are out there, waiting to be on this podcast! That would make it better for me as a dedicated listener. Much love from San Diego, CA!

Wonderful birth prep
I can't speak highly enough of this podcast! I recently gave birth to my fourth baby (my first time doing an unmedicated birth) and I'm so grateful I discovered this podcast while I was pregnant! After I decided to do an unmedicated delivery, none of the birth "methods" really felt like the right fit for me, so listening to the various birth stories in these episodes ended up being my main source of preparation. I loved hearing about all of the ways birth can go and recognizing that no two experiences are exactly the same. It helped me feel very mentally prepared going into my labor and delivery, instead of being anxious or fearful. And now two and a half months later, I'm still hooked and listening to every new episode! :)

The Most Wonderful Resource
I can't say enough good things about this podcast. I've followed along since the beginning and it has become a staple in our weekly listening habits. My two year old can say the whole opening montage! There is truly something to be gleaned from most every episode for every mother or mother-to-be. In my most recent pregancy I listened to The Birth Hour as part of my evening relaxation ritual of a bath and positive thinking, and I can truly credit it with helping me to feel confident and in tune with all mothers everywhere as I prepared to bring my baby into the world. I love being able to hear each mama's story and feel a sort of solidarity and kinship with them as I relive their stories alongside them. What a special place to be able to commune with mothers worldwide and share something as sacred and beautiful as the story of life.

Empowering birth stories
As a childbirth educator, I am often asked by my students for more birth stories. This is a fantastic resource - I love being able to actually hear the stories from the Moms themselves, and Bryn asks great questions without interrupting the flow of the stories. Some of these stories are educational, some are inspirational, and all of them are empowering. They are great, positive birth stories, and I’m excited to share them with my students.

I just love this podcast!
As a first time38 week pregnant lady I have to say I absolutely love this podcast. It's been so amazing to listen to a wide range of birth stories and has made the unknown less scary and actually has made me excited to give birth. It's helped me shape my birth plan and always leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy about my upcoming birth experience. I hope to share my experience on the show someday and help to inspire other women, as all of these woman have done for me. Hearing birth stories is truly invaluable, thank you for doing this.

The Birth Hour
When I got pregnant my sister recommended I listen to The Birth Hour, to help me get more familiar with birth and hear all the different scenarios. I fell in love with it so hard!! In the beginning few months I listened to sometimes 4-5 episodes a day. It was awesome!! Aside from the reading and research I've done in preparation for my home birth coming in December, I've learned so much on The Birth Hour. Birth is beautiful no matter what, and I love hearing how no two stories are exactly the same. Thank you so much for this, Bryn! I wish we could have new episodes every day 😂😂 but it's definitely been fabulous and a blessing!!

Love this podcast!
Such a great resource for women planning to have children and such an entertaining show for those of us who are interested in birth. I recommend it to all my friends having kiddos as a powerful tool to use to prepare yourself for all that many, many things childbirth can throw at you, as well as a way to normalize the different choices women make about how and where they will give birth. Bryn is so respectful of the varied choices women make and has provided a wonderful space for women to share these sacred stories.

A must for all mamas in their 3rd trimester
I listened to the entire catalog in my third trimester -- couldn't get enough birth stories! -- and now recommend The Birth Hour to all pregnant mamas (and partners). It's a fantastic way to normalize birth and empower women. Funny, sweet, and so incredibly real. Thank you, Brin!

Inspired my birth!
I just gave birth to my first baby, a boy, with an all natural hospital birth in Austin... The Birth Hour totally shaped the way I approached my birth! I soaked up every episode I'm the last month of pregnancy. It's a wonderful education. I love the blend of different experiences shared. From emergency c-sections, to unassisted home births, the stories span the spectrum. It totally blessed me in helping me know what to expect. I felt so proud to join the ranks of these awesome mommas when I gave birth to my baby!

A very worthwhile podcast!
For all expecting mothers, mothers, and non-mothers this is an incredible podcast that shares birth story after birth story. Bryn is a phenomenal host and really lets moms just tell their birth stories with no interrupting. This has been a formative part of my preparation for birth. I am very grateful for this resource and I highly recommend it!

Preparation for the real-life, non-textbook birth!
I read all the books with my first pregnancy, and was shocked when I didn't have a "textbook" birth. With my second and third pregnancies, I "researched" only with real birth stories. The Birth Hour became an instant favorite. I loved hearing how special and unique each birth can be! I gained a peace in the unpredictability of birth, and looked forward to the writing of my birth. Thanks to The Birth Hour, my second and third births were more peaceful as I welcomed each turn of events as part of our special story. 💜
