Getting better
New review: This podcast has started to go uphill. Not enough to make me give it 5 stars, but still good. I noticed that the news episodes are more about actual news, not just tesla cars blowing up, and hacking/viruses. I’ve decided to resubscribe, and up it to 4/5 stars, but I feel like it could be better. -Kraggle09 Old review: Good, but… 3/5 stars It’s decent, but has really gone downhill since Lauren left. I think Jonathan has started to go his own way, and it doesn’t have a lot of variation, since there is no input from other co-hosts. Every now and then there’s a good episode, like the Warner Brothers series, but it mostly consists of news about data leaks, hacking, viruses, and tesla vehicles blowing up. We need another host! I will still be checking up on it sometimes, but for now, I’m unsubscribing. -Kraggle09

A Review of "TechStuff"
I had found certain parts of what I had believed to had been a certain installment of this "TechStuff" ("Tech News: The Death of G4TV (Again)") had been unnecessary, unprofessional, and detrimental (especially toward parts of it I had found to had been informative (or "OK")). (descriptions of the parts mentioned near the beginning of this review: certain language I had found to had been unobjective (or opinionated) and certain language I had found to had been unpleasant ("How the tech are you")

Could be good, but…
At this point, most everything on this podcast is news about tesla failures, cryptocurrency, spacex rockets blowing up, hacking, and a bunch of rerun episodes. So if you like news, this is for you. The older episodes are pretty good though.

It’s obvious Jonathan puts extraordinary effort in covering salient topics and finding guests that are authentic and truly care about being a positive force in tech - the insights they bring to bear are still mind-blowing every. single. time.

Lay off the Elon/Tesla hate
Great podcast when Strickland can stick to the tech and avoid politics. He tends to overextend his openly admitted hate on Tesla and Elon (both of which are *leaders* in tech) and it’s highly unbecoming. One way or another Strickland has to admit that there are a lot of supporters in tech for people like Elon and his trailblazing business ventures. Strickland’s personal biases and views detract from the podcasts to the point where I feel compelled to write this review and unsubscribe :(

A favorite
Well-researched, thorough, and easy to understand, even when difficult concepts. As a chemical engineering grad student, I’ve used this podcast for the past several years throughout school to expand on & compliment what I learn in school. I also enjoy Tech News a lot, and I like Jonathan’s punny self. Thank you for entertaining, teaching, and inspiring.

A mancave is a mancave
Did this dude really just apologize for a past article where he referred to a man cave as a man cave?! Then he calls it a “person cave”? How pathetic. What has this snowflake world come to? I hope he never says the word “mankind” in a podcast. Might get some angry emails about it and he’ll start calling “person-kind”.

Likes to use liberal tropes too often
While the show has decent to good information about tech, the host likes to use liberal tropes too often. Example, when comparing money issues related to workers vs company, the host uses the company's stock valuation instead revenue or net profits in order may the difference more dramatic. Stock valuation of many companies, especially if start ups, rarely should be used in comparison of an expense, like workers wages.

Thoroughly enjoyable. I recommend this pod to anyone with even the slightest interest in tech. Complex concepts are explained in a cogent, compressed manner, and made easily understandable. That not an easy task to pull off as a communicator.

Finally
This is the best “explain in technical detail random aspects of life” podcast around, and it happens to be technical detail about technological things in random aspect of life. Worth the listen and the right level of explanation for the time. Breaks down each component rather than glossing over generally and just summarizing something you already know. Can take you from most levels of knowledge base without grating the nerve or becoming impossible to follow.

Relativity. Huh.
In the latest episode (as of this writing), “It’s All Relative,” Jonathan Strickland brought general and special relativity into the real world, by comparing the way that the speed of a physical object, like a ball, is relative to that object’s surroundings, whereas the speed of light is constant — with tangible references, like trains and spacecraft. No other explanation of relativity I’ve ever heard or read made the concept, or it’s implications, click for me, to any extent. Five stars, and a hearty “thanks!”

Lack of in depth knowledge
A literature major tries to explain technology of which has only superficial knowledge. The host is a nerdy gamer that grates your nerves after only a short time. The only thing worse than the content are his attempts at humor. When the female cohost joins the show her sycophantic laughter only highlights how pathetic the “puns” are.

some humble advice
I really like this podcast, and I would like to provide some feedback. First, there are too many technical details in some episodes. For example, in the episode on the rockets, I do not think we need to know the weight of the rocket and its fuel to so much detail. Instead, what is making the rocket working is more important. Second, we are not a "tech history stuff", I think we should have less histories on, for example, the persons' life or how they interact with each other, those are less important as we are "tech stuff". Thanks, hope the podcast will get better.

Clownish
I just listened to the show on Spotify and the host’s torturous attempt to explain that pirating of music is not actually theft. His argument: some people who pirated music would not have purchased it anyway. But he naively misses the point that many who pirated the music WOULD have bought it. What a miss.

Stop advertising for IBM
Please Don’t be a sellout. You’re better than that. I really don’t enjoy you pretending to mix in a podcast with what is purely marketing for IBM on a 2 min ad! Update. This really long ad is still playing. Very uncreative. If this is a podcast about “all things Tech “then why are you just talking about IBM for two straight minutes? Talk about your actual show, not one of the once great, now fledging tech companies out there.

Audio version of a Wikipedia article
The content is like an assortment of wiki articles related to the title topic. Lots of random facts sprinkled around with no real conversation or personal opinions/experiences to tie things together. The dry delivery doesn’t help matters. Reading the script with some energy and humor would make this show more interesting. I still listen to occasional episodes hoping for some hidden jewels on the topic and usually come away unimpressed. This show is best for those who know nothing at all about the topic and want a very broad and shallow overview. Not great for those who are looking to learn more about something with which you are already familiar.

All Things Tech
TechStuff is one of the three original podcasts by HowStuffWorks, and that means it has a huge archive that still outputs great episodes. Jonathan is very informative and all things tech. Seriously, he's been doing it for over a decade. He tries very much to not let his opinions affect the content, a little too hard in our opinion. One criticism we'd give is that it sounds a bit lonely without a co-host like Chris or Lauren. Jonathan's informed enough to make up for it, but he needs a buddy on-screen to bounce info. Still great though.

Johnathan Strickland Is Awful
The topics are interesting but Johnathan is unbearably boring. He often ventures down long tangents that aren’t on topic and sometimes gets a little too detailed on very technical material. And he takes forever to say anything. A 50 minute episode is probably only about 20 minutes of good content. I rarely finish episodes because they are so boring and hard to listen to. Also, I hate saying this but I can’t stand how Johnathan’s voice sounds. It sounds like he has a deviated septum or his nose is just totally stuffed up all the time.

Odd topics
I like this podcast a lot, and usually listen every night as I go to sleep, trying to keep the eyes away from my LCD for a bit before sleeping while still taking in the internet. I always watch because the topic is well spoken by Jonathan, and it seems to be the most clean/professional/scheduled/whatever you might call it. I love all things tech, but it would be nice to get more knowledge about how technology is made, developed, used, what goes into it, how it works, etc. than to learn the history of EBay or just other odd little topics for a week.

Great Podcast a little to much tech
Let me start of by saying I’ve listened to every episode and I’ve been a fan for the last 2 years. I think he does a fantastic job of researching each topic and you can really feel that he cares about what he’s talking about. My only complaint is that he goes into far to much detail about the technical aspects of the topic he speaking about. For example when talking about Nokia’s history he went into how paper is made and how cell phones work for 10+ minutes each time. It really takes away from the main topic and can get boring.

Not the best podcast on their network
First, let me start off by saying I love tech and was really excited about this podcast when it first came out. Unfortunately, after the first few episodes, I had to stop listening. I don’t know what it is about the host, but he makes it unbearable. He’s a little condescending, drones on, and isn’t funny. He makes the podcast feel like I’m back in college in an 8 a.m. required 101 class about tech, which no one wants to be there, but have to because it’s a requirement. It’s gotten to the point where, every time he makes an appearance on another show on the network, I stop listening, no matter where they are at in the show. It’s so bad, that it’s starting to effect how I view other shows that regularly have him on as a guest, resulting in me losing interest in those shows. With that being said, there a lot of other tech shows out there, do yourself a favor and listen to one of those

Long pompous rambling
If you are interested in a particular topic and you want to get down in the weeds you’re in the right place. There is a lot of manufacturer bias. Example, the encryption podcast is really about how the RSA algorithm works. There’s a lot of opinion that may or may not be right. If you are interested in the underlying history and business decisions, and even some of the cultural forces that acted on a products development then it’s very good, even entertaining. At least a third of each podcast needs left in the editing booth’s circular bin. That will change the rating to 4 stars.

This podcast has grown tremendously since it's launch. Whereas episodes used to explain what the object or technology is/was, now it's a deep dive into whatever topic he's talking about. Very informative
I really enjoy the 'History of ..." episodes on this show but I tend to pass on most of the other episodes. Jonathan is a gifted researcher and is able to explain things in a very talented manner all while maintaining his quirky humor. I do question who this show's target market is: I suspect that the "history of ..." episodes mostly attract a tech-savvy audience while the general 'techonolgy explained' episodes seem to target moms who want to better understand their children's culture. Regardless, I really enjoy the episodes that I do choose to listen to and it's perfectly fine for not every episode to be completely tailored to my interests.

Fantastic podcaster
Having an English geek podcaster who’s also a tech geek makes for a great podcast. He’s got a great vocabulary & he knows how to use it - he says it the right way without sounding strange, even when he’s got to hunt for a word. He also does his homework (a.k.a., research) thoroughly. The narrative of this podcast follows logically and is easy to follow. Lastly, there’s an excellent selection and variety of topics.

Good subjects, but often annoying presentation.
I've listened to a few dozen episodes so I'm an intensely curious person. Many great subjects are presented but the style leaves a lot to be desired. Constant corny puns make them sound the opposite of smart; just saying. Too much opinion makes explanations unnecessarily long, and does so constantly. I wish it were better. It is way too 'dumbed down'.

Title says it all, love the format (mostly single person who doesn't need guests to carry a show), host does a thorough job explaining complex concepts very well. Show is also well organized from start to finish, only negative is that the corny jokes are just that, corny. I look forward to all new episodes as the come out and feel wiser after listening to them.

Unlistenable
The speaker talks so slowly and stumbles over his words. Long pauses for unfunny jokes. Just google the topic it's a lot less painful of a way to learn something new.

You won't learn anything
This podcast sounds very much like someone is reading "cut and paste" high school research papers out loud and inserting off the cuff opinions as he goes along. You can learn more in the same time by Googling the topics for yourself.

Tech stuff for dummies
This podcast puts almost no information into an episode. It's absolutely unbelievable how little thought seems to have gone into the script. Jonathan needs to cut down on his frequent pauses and lame puns. This is the podcast equivalent of modern marvels in slow motion. Please speak more deliberately and efficiently so that it doesn't take 10 minutes to learn 2 minutes worth of information. The topics covered are fantastic, but I'm not interested in listening to a masturbatory exercise.

#1 Podcast on any network
This is definitely my favorite podcast. He does an excellent job at breaking down complex topics. My first episodes were the Industrial Revolution Pt. 1, 2, & 3. As I listened I kept think to myself, "where is he going with this?" As he proceeded, I thoroughly understood the topic due his effort laying out the foundational knowledge. Even though production has ceased, Fw:Thinking is definitely the next best podcast. Check them both out.

I tried to like this but ugh what is wrong with Strickland
I listened to Techstuff for a few years and unsubscribed when Strickland white knighted an adult escort and suggested I unsubscribe. So I did. I came back because I got bored with my other podcasts but the last 10 minutes of his episode on ~video game emulators~ is spent lecturing us about the morality of downloading roms. Why are you spending so much time berating your audience, Strickland? Why can't you just do a podcast about technology without uninteresting and disingenuous moral soapboxing? We don't care dude. Stop.

Ignore the old reviews!
A lot of the top reviews for this show that display on iTunes are from 2008 and 2009. Ignore them! Many of the complaints I see in those reviews clearly don't apply anymore. I started listening to this show in 2016, and I really enjoy it. Is every single episode about a topic I'm interested in? No. Are 85% of the episodes about things I'm interested in? Yes. What I like about this show is it gives you a good, in-depth overview of the subject matter; it goes into enough detail that you get a good understanding of the topic, but not so detailed that you want to stick an icepick in your ears from boredom. I really like host Jonathan Strickland, and he finds ways to pepper in moments of humor that keep the show from getting dull. I don't know what this show was like in 2008 or 2009, but as of 2016 it's really, really good. I've listened to about 50 episodes from the past year or two, and I've enjoyed them all.

Stop Now
I tried so hard to get into this podcast. I listened for almost 50 episodes. The hosts are unbearable and opinionated. There is far too much politics and not enough tech discussion. I have learned more TechStuff from 3 episodes of BrainStuff (2-7 minutes max vs 50 plus). For the record, I love stuff you should know and stuff you missed in history class. They are sarcastic and don't shove their own opinions down your throat.

Superduper Show!!
I love this show. I don't see how it can cover so many things in such depth and (usually) so well. But I have to comment on the Analog vs Digital issue that was gently mentioned in the second Moog story show: You say analog has infinite signal resolution vs digital which is merely sampled? If this is supposed to mean analog provides a more real, or "better," sound, consider that every part of an audio system colors the sound you hear: speakers, tone arm, needle, amplifier, room furnishings, room size, type of phono cartridge ... I used to have audiophile friends who would audition each moving-coil phono cartridge because they each sound different. (Moving coil pick-ups had less mass than piezo crystal heads and supposedly followed the record groove better.) One thing that really makes music sound more real is dynamic range ... and digital music can deliver a lot more dynamic range than any piece of vinyl. (Whew! I'm glad I got that off my chest.) Great show guys. Keep them coming. Please do something on ham radio next.

Drags too much
Though I like most of the topics, Jonathan needs to dial it down with the puns and unnecessary comments which make most topics longer than it should be. He should just present the facts and save his opinions on FW: Thinking, other HSW podcasts handle this very well.

Used to be better
Disappointed again. Just listened to the VW Scandal episode. They really didn't need to go into the history of CAFE standards to do an overly long episode. This should have been half the length and go in to the ins and outs of the scandal itself. Unfortunately they try to make this a history lesson that isn't particularly insightful, and tends to drone on for long periods that aren't helpful.

enjoyed it at first
i found this to be a fun and somewhat informative podcast that was good in the bite sized chunks it provided. The show eventually either sunk into, or it was always and i was oblivious, an opinion based pun fest. Final nails in the coffin had to be anything gamer gate related. A glorious example of the hosts being high on opinion and low on facts. When there is a guest host on and they are moving the goalposts regarding criticism of anita sarkesian and the cohost says something along the lines of “she didn’t have time to put the research into her videos” and it goes by unchecked i know it is time to move on. Think about it, the name is tech stuff and the host sees no problem with “didn’t have the time for research” yet still waves that opinion flag as fact. Pass.

Sad to say goodbye to this podcast
After years of subscribing and listening to this podcast, I am sad to say goodbye. It's become too long, too drawn out, and too difficult to stay engaged. As a previous reviewer said, "The hosts continuously engage in annoying puns and asides that only serve to distract from the topic at hand. They also offer their personal opinions far too often, a habit that wastes an immense amount of time." This review was from October of 2009 and even with host changes, it hasn't improved much. There are too many jokes, too many tangents, and not enough good content. They draw out topics that could be much shorter, and the podcasts themselves are too long. It actively frustrates me to listen, and that's not what I want in a podcast. I love the HowStuffWorks family of 'casts, so I'll continue listening to others, but this one is exiting my rotation.

Love it!
Just started listneing to this podcast--but went all the way back to the beginning to download previous hundred or so episodes--and have to say I love this podcast! This may just be a result of my own corny personailty, but I rather enjoy the silly puns. Frankly, there are too many sour pusses giving the show bad reviews for that. Please, have a sense of humor people--laugh a little! Overall, I find the topics insightful (even for a tech geek such as myself). I really enjoy the "history of..." episodes the most. I have learned quite a bit from them! Keep up the great work!

Patiently waiting for the podcast to mature
I enjoyed this podcast in the past. Now that Lauren joined, it's really hard to listen. I wait for a while until I find a topic that really gets my interest. That could be a few weeks or months, hoping that the chemistry between the two will improve. I've come to the conclusion that it's not going to get any better on my ears. Please consider a replacement for Lauren, I want my podcast back. She doesn't have a voice for radio/podcasting, sorry. p. s. And the five star reviews must be from new listeners that never listened to the original shows without Lauren.

I'm enjoying every one I've listened to so far. My first one was "The Story of Prodigy." Not good anymore :(
I used to LOVE Tech Stuff! I have been a fan for 4 years now and I always looked forward to learning about different topics in tech from Chris and Jonathan... However, since Chris left the show has gone down hill. I am sure Lauren is a really nice person but this is not the place for her. I have really tried to give the new host a chance but Lauren and Jonathan together are unlistenable. Chris and Jonathan were great bc they balanced each other out, Chris brought real tech knowledge/experience and Jonathan brought the energy and corkiness. Unfortunately without Chris there to reel Jonathan in -- Jonathan has become really annoying. Lauren doesn't really bring anything to the table and comes off boring and annoying. Tech Stuff PLEASE bring in a new host that brings Real tech knowledge to the table to balance Jonathan out. I really don't want to stop being a fan- but two overly energetic English majors do not equal a successful tech show.

Lauren Always Interrupts. Get Rid Of Her!
This podcast has become a mess with the constant know-it-all like interruptions Lauren gives by always trying to jump in and add nothing that important. The production value is awful as they actually take time to very badly talk about ads during the show which is very unprofessional and a turn off with the obvious tonal and cadence issues. People don't care and you can just skip over them but the nerve to think this content is advertisement worthy, not at all. The subjects talked about are only 4th grade surface level. Most of the products reviewed are never even seen or used by hosts which gives them honestly no right to talk about those topics. I remember with topics like blurays, gaming systems, cameras they had not even experimented with them (by their own reveal) yet they are going to talk about them. No thanks, no credibility Only way to save it is can Lauren. Too many attitude look at me type females in the workplace who feel they need to be heard, but I'm quite sure this was a diversity quota hire.

Jonathan never stops talking
I had to unsubscribe. The podcast used to be at least informative, but the Lauren/Jonathan combo is brutal. It's not Lauren's fault, Jonathan never, ever stops talking. I am disappointed to write this review. I used to really enjoy this podcast until recently when Chris Pollet left. Unfortunately, Jonathan Strickland is insufferably boorish and obnoxious as the lead host. His personality was bearable, and even a bit charming, when Chris was the host. But now there is no Chris to reign in Jonathan. This is too bad, because the subject matter is often very interesting and informative. I just simply cannot listen to JS anymore, and it brings me no pleasure to write this. Sorry Jonathan. You seem like a nice guy, but you're just to darn annoying for me as the lead host.

Love almost all of it - update with new host
I find the hosts funny and entertaining. Yeah I don't always get all the jokes but it doesn't detract. About the only annoying thing is the music - or noise at the beginning. Sound is up higher than the speaking volume and it grates on my nerves - it's just freaky annoying. Still, I can plug my ears until the good stuff begins. Update: since Lauren joined both hosts now have more energy but often exhibit rather juvenile behavior which I find irritating. Lauren needs to stop saying "my goodness me" and chill out a bit. They can both come across as two kids flirting at the school playground. A little more adult delivery would be nice.

very good to learn and pass time at work!
I started listening to this podcast because I was bored. I been a follower since then. they have a lot of things I enjoy: > every podcast is interesting!. I listened to topics about something that I had no interest about, and then They change my mind about it. > frecuent new podcasts! > being backed up by Discovery, I expected some censoship on certain topics like piracy, etc. surprisingly they do talk about it. like some other user said, Lauren could be a little more clear when he talks, but from what I understand, she was employed for other thing, and when the previous co-host got out, tehy just put her in the podcast. hopefully practice makes perfect!

Ok but not as good as other "Stuff" podcasts
Content is ok...tho sometimes they have talked about things I actually know something about and their information was misleading, but I do end the podcast knowing more than when I started generally speaking. Lauren is a great new host...articulate and to the point. Jonathan needs to settle the heck down. There are times when he's got his "humor" turned up to 11 and I just want to dope slap the guy. But, bless her heart, Lauren just sits across the table and chuckles along. If you only have time for 2 or 3 Stuff podcasts, I'd suggest Stuff Mom Never Told You, Stuff to Blow Your Mind or Stuff You Should Know. If you still need more, this one will do fine.

This was the first podcast I seriously committed to, and it's been worth it. I see lots of people complaining about the jokes and such, but seriously, if you just want to know information, it's easier to look it up. Disappointing
The two hosts know a lot of stuff about tech and come across knowledgeable and intelligent. Unfortunately each and every single episode gets bogged down with horrible and very much unfunny one liners and puns. They both go constantly off topic to out pun each other. If only they kept on the subject and eliminated all the jokes the podcast would be one of the best on iTunes. The one episode that comes to mind as being the worst (which isn’t really saying that the others are far better than that one) is the ‘Samples Some Raspberry Pi’ the jokes got so bad that every time the work pi was said one of the hosts went “Hmmm Pie” over and over and over again. And as you can imagine Pi was said quite often. Regretfully I have canceled my subscription to this podcast. I’ll still check once in a while to see if they get new hosts for the show. Once they do I’m right back in it.

Introduction
This podcast is an introduction to all things tech related from the stories of companies to private individuals who contributed to current technology and of course the technology itself. This is not a podcast that delves deeply into technical language or jargon but informs even the tech illiterate about technology and how it pertains to western culture. I have found most of the shows to be engaging, helping me to understand the significance of a piece of technology or how something would be useful to me and my life. If you are tech savvy then listening to old podcasts are good for a laugh and insight into the consistently changing world of technology.

Ok if you love endless puns and juvenile humor
The idea of the podcast is good, but the execution is bad. The podcast probably has about 15 mins of real content while the rest is digressions into bad puns and other sorry attempts at humor. Once or twice is fine, but these guys will beat the jokes into the ground throughout an entire episode. Listen to the episode about the Rasberry Pi computer and see how many times you can listen to their "Mmm pie" joke before hitting stop.

What podcasting is all about
In a world where people are too busy to read a book, research a topic, or attend a college course, it's nice to know there are audio programs available to help keep us sharp on today's technology and answer our everyday questions. This podcast is a great tool to learn something new and have topics to talk about with others. It's also reassuring to have two knowledgable people who can bounce ideas off of each other and keep each ot her in check during the program. They are easy to listen to, and their show has variety. I can lisen to their podcasts several times and learn something new each time. It's things like this that make me glad I am a technology buff.

Great podcast! Information-filled.
Not to sound harsh but honestly, most podcasts sound like two snickering nerds with a public access show. To sound polished and well-versed in the material is a tough task to pull off and these two guys consistently provide a top-quality show. I listened to one episode thinking that it was a diamond in the rough but every one I pick, and it's been about 6 so far, has been absolute money. They give great info with some amusing anecdotes and very minimal side conversations about topics that the listener has no interest in. Like I said, very different from other podcasts. My first podcast ever.
This was the first podcast I ever heard a few years back. I'm big on tech and how tech stuff works, so this was a no brainer. But after almost two years listening to these guys, I can't get past 5 minutes. I have to skip. What changed? Not much. They are still boring, still annoying as they ever were in the beginning, but I feel the topics have gone downhill. And the topics that seem to be "interesting" turn out to be made unlistenable by the hosts - or maybe I just grew tired of it.
If we knew who this was...

Geeky fun
This is a fun podcast if you can stand the pun-fest. Seriously, these two take punage to a whole new level. Chris and Jonathan have a good time making this podcast and it clearly shows in the outcome. The topics are wide-ranging and usually interesting. Well, if you've got a geeky side they are anyway. Subscribe now to learn with a smile.

Its a podcast, not a lecture...
For those saying C&J need to go more in depth: they have 30 min. Annoying? Sure, if you don't get the jokes. Don't like the quotes? Go watch a sci-fi or 80's flick, maybe you'll understand. While some topics are a bit more dry than others, they explain them sufficiently enough to pique (or not) your curiosity. If find the topic interesting, head over to iTunes University and learn more, if not, you are educated enough for cocktail party conversation. This podcast is a great way to get your feet wet on multiple topics. I've enjoyed it greatly.

Lowbrow
These guys can be informative, but most of the time not. They are admittedly English majors. When they do a show about the history of IBM or the electronic games business I'm all ears, but unfortunately they spend alot of time explaining scientific principles, which they do at a fifth grade level. They even did a show on light sabers. While they have done some good shows, I've deleted the podcast.

Hard to listen to
Ugh... Jonathan is not at all likable. Hard to listen to. I've listened to 50 episodes or so, but now I just delete every one unless it's a topic that I'm interested in. I find that I delete 9 out of 10 episodes. Lastly, when I do listen to one I always have to scan past the first two minutes in order to get past the nauseating banter. Then I shut it off when they read the listener mail. It's a poor podcast, but not completely worthless.

I have picked up some excellent tips from Chris and Jonathan, and I love listening to their fun style of talking about the topic. Fun, informative, perfectly timed
I have been a long time listener of this podcast and SYSK. As I was looking for a new podcast today, I was surprised they are not higher in the ratings. This is an excellent way to spend 30 minutes and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in technology and wants a good explanation of every topic, without getting too watered down. It is not overly techie and they keep it fun and quickly moving. The topics are well researched. The host play off each other very well. I commute 4 hours a day. I turn this on during my ride home, and I often find myself listening after I get home for another episode or two. Well done gentlemen. I'd like to see more frequent releases! Five Stars.

Okay, you need to stay on topic!
The discussions and topics are often interesting, but I find myself being more and more frustrated by the hosts' obvious lack of "techiness" and the ubiquitous errors. I have also stopped listening to this podcast regularly b/c of Jonathan's tendency to inappropriately digress and constantly interrupt Chris. JS disrupts the flow of every podcast, and needs to realize he's not very funny.

Eclectic and amusing
This podcast casts a wide net over tech, and pulls in all sorts of interesting subject matter, like hard drives and facial recognition. The hosts are amusing and spirited, and have a growing command of their, um, commanding material. Episodes vary in their interest, as you'd expect. Features on "jail-breaking" tech is unexpectedly fascinating, as is the tech of minting money. Unfortunately, there's perhaps a disproportionate attention to gaming, and podcasts on "Imagineering" (Disney) and Dr. Who were problematic. Consistency seems to be the main issue; some casts are fascinating, others somewhat self-indulgent.

I really enjoy this podcast. I know that some people complain that it doesn't always explain things in great detail, but it's perfect for a quick introduction to different aspects of technology. The hosts are funny, or at least corny, and while they are quick to admit to biased views, I feel like it makes the conversations seem that much more real, because honestly everyone has some sort of bias. If you're looking for a lot of detail about the science behind technology, I suggest you check out some library books. If you're looking to learn a little about things in the world of tech, you definitely subscribe.

Ugh!
Too many inside jokes (that the hosts insist on telling us are inside jokes) and insinuations that the hosts understand so much more than their audience. Jonathan is especially annoying; Chris tries to keep things professional and informative, but is continuously interrupted by Jonathan's know-it-all geek attitude. I agree with many others here -- Chuck and Josh from SYSK can't be beat, and this is a sad comparison podcast.

These guys are great
These guys really know their stuff. I don't get why everyone is rating the podcast based on the fact that apple screwed something up in ios4 that doesn't allow people to stream or download the podcast. That's like giving a movie a bad review because the popcorn sucked. These guys just record the podcast, they aren't responsible for fixing iTunes. They should definitely mention something about the fact that people are having a hard time downloading it though. Keep up the good work guys!

Recently at the 2010 EA expo on June 15. I wanted to ask if you can make a podcast about the upcoming nintendo 3DS for the others and me about why is it seems so revolutionary in handheld technolgy. Least Favorite
My least favorite of the "How Stuff Works" podcasts that I've tried. The hosts are ok, but they never seem to really make a topic interesting. They fail to address even the most basic of questions, like on the IRC podcast they never said -why- someone would want to use IRC. They need to figure out how to make things people already know more interesting too (a lot of the stuff is yesterday's, or even yesteryear's, news if you're halfway tech-saavy). I listened to a couple months worth, but couldn't take the inane blather anymore and left. :(

I can't stay silent on the subject, LISTENER MAIL!
I love this podcast, it is informative and humorous. If you are a fan of puns then this podcast is definetely for you. I eagerly await this podcast every week, and I wish BrainStuff would take a page out of TechStuff's book and make the podcast 30-40 min. I am a fan of the old listener mail intro. I first heard it while I was on a bus trip and had not slept for about 18 hours. I went on not to sleep for about 30-40 hours, and this podcast is the only thing which kept me sane and awake. But I probably would have taken anything over Paul Blart Mall Cop. It is time to bring back the retro Listener Mail intro! Update: @MacGeekGuy- Take your 3% world marketshare and go away. UPDATE: Do not listen to the 200 years in technology episode. The amount of unbelievably terrible banter made me want to throw my iPhone against a wall. Deleted it, and hoping the next one isn't awful.

It is a very informative podcast with up to date information in the tech world. I highly suggest this podcast. Not only explaining the tech but also any current news relating to the topic. That will help you get a grasp on the issue. The hosts are humorous, and are great with each other!

Funny geek banter, but needs more detailed show notes
I love listening to these two banter about tech stuff, they are very much odd couple! I just wish they would post a blog or detailed show notes of the lists they mention in the shows. I don't always catch everything on the first listen and could really use a textual version of the software, products, insights that they share.

Please Focus on How Stuff Works
This comment could apply to both TechStuff and Stuff You Should Know. Both podcast have very likable and entertaining host. However, many of the episodes are way too light on how stuff actually works and way to heavy on preaching the social values of the host (some of which I share). The constant, mostly liberal, evangelizing gets tiresome. Please, please, please leave the social work to a "How the World Should Work" podcast and focus on how technology actually works. Guys, this is written with sincere affection. Please consider what I am saying. I am sure I'm not alone. David Whittenberg, Memphis TN.

I know nothing more than before
Unlike the other great HowStuffWorks podcasts, this one is extremely light on actual information, high on opinion and sarcasm, but not in the fun way that I'm used to from the other HSW casts. I'm sorry to say that I'm keeping the others but deleting this one from my feed. If this show were to be valuable, it should live up to the expectation that it's going to actually tell you how things work, now there's a concept.

Not meant to be Expert Tech Podcasts
I really enjoy this podcast. I am a little disappointed in some of the reviews written on here. These guys will be the first to tell you, they are not experts and the podcasts aren't meant to be the Ultimate Word on each subject. Lighten up people! They are informative and yes, Strickland is narcissistic, but that's part of the fun!! Thank you for not yelling listener mail anymore, as it actually hurt my ears.

A lot of fun if you're into keeping up with the latest technology, or even the histories behind the many technologies we currently use (or have rejected). Always insightful, always interesting. And yes, I miss the old obnoxiously fun listener mail intro. Keep up the good work!
