So helpful!
I’ve tried a lot of language learning podcasts, and this is the best by far at breaking down each word and explaining everything. Fantastic!

Wonderful!
I’ve been trying to learn Chinese for years. I love the short, topic specific shows that I can listen to in the morning as I’m getting the day started. I always find something useful, interesting, and since I’ve been listening to Chinese for many years, but struggling to really understand it, this show helps me enormously with understanding daily conversations! Thanks so much.

Something in it for ALL LEVELS
Great podcast and especially well-structured for beginners, but it’s really beneficial for ALL levels. Two things this podcast does extremely well: Brevity and outlining of interview questions Chinese etymology Never stop learning! As an upper intermediate/advanced learner, I must admit I play it at 1.5-2x speed but I keep coming back to this excellent short form podcast for Shaolan’s breadth of knowledge and juicy bits of cultural and hyper detailed etymological wisdom that I don’t get from long form, Mandarin-only podcasts. I LOVE the etymology bits. She is an exceptional teacher and her radio voice exudes compassion and zen clarity! Recently I’ve also been loving the occasional forays into classical poetry and literature. 非常感谢您!

One of the best Chinese podcasts
This podcast is habit-forming. The host is a great and worldly interviewer and her conversations always entertaining and fun. The explanation of words and characters is helpful and practical. The podcast has only gotten better since I began listening. Great way to build vocabulary and cultural knowledge. Please keep up the good work, Shiao-Lan!

你好!
This podcast is amazing I love it so much! Shaolan does such a good job at teaching and the podcasts are the perfect length. Every subject is interesting and I leave each podcast with knew knowledge. I especially love that Shaolan explains why the characters look the way they do, and their history. I would love to meet Shaolan she is so funny! She’ll be like “你好, 你最近好吗” and some random British guy on the podcast will be like “shay shay!” It makes me laugh so hard I honestly love and learn so much from this entertaining podcast.

Makes it stick!
I love this podcast. It’s super quick and yeaches you practical words in Chinese with context on how it’s used and the origin of the characters. I love that some words are more colloquial and would be things you don’t learn in a textbook. It really helps to make a language I once thought was so intimidating way more accessible.

i love this podcast !!!!!
Shaolin gives deep insights to the origin of each word and it’s place in chinese culture. It is much more memorable to learn chinese this way, with the context. She asks great questions of her guests and really engages with them. The conversations are short and enjoyable, a great way to add to your vocabulary or brush up on your language skills.

Perfect for quick on the go learning
Each short lesson is great for diving into a word or phrase in a short amount of time. You learn a lot about different ways to use it so you are getting a small vocabulary and grammar lesson at the same time. Because the podcast is actually teaching a guest the phrase it makes learning more engaging because you feel you are not alone.

So useful!
This show focuses mostly on vocabulary and phrases rather than listening and most of it is in English. I love the variety of different topics that aren’t covered in basic Chinese courses until much later. Shaolan’s explanations about culture and the characters help me to remember them.

ShaoLan is Tremendous
I came across her TED talk a while ago. Boy am I glad I did. It proved to be the germ that sprouted into some amazing fruit. I was heading to Beijing for two weeks and didn't speak a lick of Mandarin. Searched for a Chinese language learning podcast that wasn't too dense and saw ShaoLan's familiar face and downloaded a few episodes to sample. They did not disappoint. Listening to this podcast, along with Mango Languages, provided me some very useful phrases. The format is perfect for those who don't have a lot of time to devote to language learning or who have fractured attention spans (e.g. me). Liked it so much I was champing at the bit for her Chineasy flashcard app. Keep up the great work!

Fun, diverse, and engaging podcast
ShaoLan has a really fun and enthusiastic attitude in teaching and sharing her native (mother) language and culture with others. I like learning about the cultural points that go along with the phrases and vocabulary that are taught. ShaoLan makes me come back for more Talk Chineasy everyday. I followed the Talk Chineasy podcast almost day-by-day last year beginning with the first episode on January 1, 2017.

Interesting Podcasts for Learning Mandarin
These podcasts are quite useful for advanced beginner level Chinese vocabulary and the guests are interesting. I would prefer not to hear the foreign speakers pronouncing the words because I am working on my accent in Chinese, so I'd prefer the Chinese to be more immersion -the English speakers can speak English. It might also be helpful or possible to split the podcasts into business discussion podcasts, maybe focused on China or international, and Chinese study. She made a nice board game for kids that I encourage everyone to check out.

Engaging and relevant!
I studied Mandarin 15 years ago and am using this podcast to brush up. ShaoLan is a fantastic teacher. She makes the vocabulary relevant by teaching it in the context of a topical conversation with a guest. She explains the literal translation of each word, which makes the colloquial translation much more interesting than rote memorization. She also makes the written character easier to remember by explaining its origin. Excellent format and execution!

I have the books and the flash card. Love them. Just started listening to this podcast and so far so good. Learning to speak Chinese is quite different than learning the characters visually.

Recommend for anyone with curious soul
This is great! Perfect for someone who is interested in China Chinese culture or its language; but even if not, the shows are still fun to listen to. Several unique things I like about Talk Chineasy: (1) it is short! Easy to fit in my busy schedule whenever I have a spare moment to learn something new (2) it has a new one every day! (3) The guests are cool and awesome! Not ordinary Chinese teachers, but people who you don't expect to learn Chinese with, which make the conversation very interesting. I love the dynamic of ShaoLan and the guests! Can't wait to listen more!

Very enjoyable and unique way to learn Chinese!
I really found this to be a unique and fun experience in learning Chinese. The interesting conversation is an awesome way to learn simple phrases and ease into the Chinese language. The host-guest dialogue is also different from the typical stiff lesson plans format out there with other Chinese learning tools. I would recommend this to anyone interested in Chinese or its culture!
