Whoa! Get your bells on… this is GOOD.
Now this is podcasting true crime, at its best sounds like. Finally, another reason to binge . All them in a row is great.

Season 2
This season was very well done. Kudos to the entire team. I’m left feeling incredibly sad, angry and outraged for Anish, Sasikala and her family. The Maple Shade PD ought to be ashamed of themselves, investigated and punished as well for the way they clearly mishandled this crime from day one. I firmly believe if this crime took place in an affluent neighborhood and to a white woman and child, the PD’s efforts would have doubled and someone arrested. I pray your show brings forth more information and justice.

LOVE THIS PODCAST! but i have to say season 2- the way it was done kept me at the edge of my seat. the investigation, the dead ends and the sudden clue all while telling the story! season 1 is good to but gah. i need more seasons like season 2 !!

Skip season 1, but season 2 is good
Season 1 is a little rough to listen to. The hosts are clearly reading from a script with little inflection or emotion in their voices. They also don’t have many insightful thoughts to add, and just say how everything is “interesting”. However, season 2 is very well done and was a great listen! I’m looking forward to the next season if there is one.

Deep dive investigative journalism work but lacking candid-ness
It’s a great podcast that really takes some deep dives with their investigative work. The narration between the two hosts in season 1 is pretty obviously scripted and lacks the disguise that it’s a script but all in all it’s a great show. I’m looking forward to see what else Strangeland covers in future seasons!

Totally slanted reporting
If a reporter doesn’t realize that law enforcement actually can’t discuss active investigations, but instead acts like LE is somehow not talking because they don’t care about a brown family’s tragedy, that reporter is not worth my time. Sounds like manufacturing issues to sensationalize.

Captivating!
I could not stop listening and don’t think a true crime podcast has ever enraged me as much as this one. The police should be ashamed of themselves. The brutality of these crimes and the lack of concern for the victims is disgusting. I hope this podcast puts pressure on authorities and brings Justice.

Poor work
Why 14 episodes? Soooo boring. Also - they start where they end and end where they start with no info and nothing new. It feels like it is just left open. Super unsatisfactory and boring and waste of time.

Season One a bit Woof
I have not listened to season 2 yet but like so many others have said- the story is interesting but “story telling” is pretty rough. It’s told as if each party doesn’t know any facts or anything about the case when that’s clearly not true. Ben also speaks as if he has no knowledge about anything in crime at all. It would be fine if I’m episode one Ben doesn’t mention this is a case he found fascinating. The fake pretend not knowing information is tough to listen to. Sounds like a junior high play.

Loved Season 2
I listened to the entire second season within a couple of days. It was so good and they did a lot of work to uncover witnesses. The police clearly botched the investigation. However, It did freak me out a bit when I realized he now lives down the street from me 🤯

Not a fan
Great reporting on an unknown murder. I enjoy true crime, because I love to see how the bad guy/gal is caught and the mystery is solved. I started with Season two, episode one. However, I found it hard to move on to the next episode, because I felt the reporter was trying to get listeners to believe that the police and FBI would not provide them with information related to the murders solely based on the fact that the victims were people of color. My cousin was murdered, and my grandmother (both caucasians) was unable to get any information or updates on an open case… just as these podcasters were told. It is a common occurrence, investigators are not able to openly speak about an on going open criminal investigation. Is it frustrating? Yes. Is it racially motivated? Is it possible that race played a part is the resources devoted to the solving of the crime…? Maybe? But, I won’t know because I don’t think I will continue to listen, and will move on to another podcast.

Too many episodes for too little information
5 stars for a story to tell / 3 stars for format. My main issues were: the number of episodes. There did not need to be 14. It felt disjointed. As soon as it got interesting it would say “on the next episode…” if this was done for ad dollars or something then that’s their business decision, but personally this felt like too many episodes (esp for the amount of info they didn’t know). It could have been a 2-part Crime Junkie episode. The hosts seemed surprised on multiple episodes when people did not want to talk to them. At times they acted like people’s actions were suspect because of XYZ. And maybe that’s true, but maybe people also didn’t want to bring up horrible memories of a double murder? I guess I’m trying to say it felt like at times they were trying to lead you in the direction of an opinion, without giving you evidence that would definitively lead you to that direction.

Interesting story, terrible “journalism”
The hosts are hardly investigative reporters. They tell an interesting story - one that absolutely needs to be told. But there’s so much sensationalism, so little fact checking, so much opinion being passed off as fact, no counter theories, borderline harassment. They build a narrative throughout and then use conversations as facts to pass off their narrative as the truth.

A forgotten mother & son.
Heartbreaking. No justice for these two. Police refusal to continue to look into any new evidence, stonewalling those who are investigating 6 years later in hopes of solving the murders is, in my opinion, a sign of arrogance & incompetence.

Great story, disappointing conclusion
This was an incredible podcast and extremely well told story, but there was so many new leads and facts that ultimately lead nowhere. They ‘wrapped up’ their investigation having ultimately unraveled nothing.. this would have been phenomenal had it actually uncovered some truths in this horrific homicide.

Just staggering…..
….how little attention the murder of a young child and his mother received by the police. From the day of the crime it’s as of law enforcement couldn’t be bothered based on the location of the crime. Good investigative journalism i’m this podcast — and thank goodness for the willingness of the few witnesses who did speak up. Their bravery and compassion for the victims was heartwarming.

Captivating yet heartbreaking
This podcast very entertaining and captivating. It’s heartbreaking what happened to the victims but I think this investigation it’s a clear picture of what most likely happened that night. It’s clear the father himself or his friend was hired. no other logical explanation. I hope there is justice for the victims. It is heartbreaking about investigators don’t care about this case because she was an immigrant women with no friends or family in the United States. It’s insane that they don’t see her and her son as human extremely disgusting. blew my mind when he referred to a different case headlight on instead of this one.

Too many episodes for the story
This would’ve been a better on The Deck stories. Each episode reiterates the same information. The whole “wait till you hear what happens after the break” and nothing happened was misleading. Despite all of that, I hope there is justice for the victims. They deserved better.

Love it!
I’ve been fascinated with true crime for a very long time and had seen at least one documentary on most of the notorious serial killers by the time I was 12/13. I’ve watched thousands of hours of true crime shows and listened to hundreds of hours of podcasts (I’ve only listened to podcasts for about a year), and this podcast DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. I’m such an audiochuck snob that if I even try to listen to other podcasts, I end up annoyed and/or bored in the first 5 minutes for one reason or another. Both seasons of Strangeland were addicting. It’s obvious that they actually care about the stories they’re reporting on, and it’s conveyed in the way that they tell the story. I’ve seen a few reviews stating that the reporting is biased and needs to be more objective, but I don’t agree. In season the podcasters had differing opinions on the guilt of the subject (I personally think he was framed), and I thought it was quite objective. I would say that season two was not as objective as season one, but then it’s difficult to be objective and unbiased when there’s so little information to go because the police never actually investigated anything and almost everyone refused to talk about crime or the victims in general. I thought both seasons were absolutely fantastic! I’m hooked and will continue to binge listen for as long as they continue making them!

Slow but compelling
I think this is such an important story to bring to light and hopefully bring some pressure on the investigators to name a suspect. It’s been too long for the victims to wait for justice. From a podcast standpoint- the pacing is so slow and I’m not sure why they decided to do brief 20-25 minute episodes (after the recaps, music, and ads are removed, is it even beyond 15 minutes for some?) except to increase the Ad revenue. Which is tacky when you’re making decisions purely based on profit rather than keeping the story and victims as your first priority.

Interesting case ruined by biased reporting
I was into hearing about this case and what findings these reporters may have uncovered, however, by episode 4 it was clear they were operating under confirmation bias. Hearing them skewer a husband and father who lost his entire family in such a brutal way with no evidence of his guilt beyond his behavior analyzed under the lens of western ideas of how fathers behave within the family dynamic was really off putting. Ugh. Also, why do they think the police department is going to say much to reporters about ongoing open cases. I really had high hopes for this podcast, quickly dashed.

If she were white, and the police cared even a little
All the people defending the police seem to be unaware of two main things. One, they are public servants who work for their community. Two, very often journalists work alongside the police to help bring cases to light and keep them there. The whole investigation being botched is something obvious to even the most armchair of armchair detectives. (Crime scene released in under a day??!). The biggest tell was right at the end where law enforcement basically says flat out “why wouldn’t you cover a crime about a white girl instead of a non-white family?” Thanks for doing this. I hope that someone gets these people justice.

I’ve only listened to season 2 and I truly do enjoy it and the story is great. I also appreciate the culturally appropriate inclusion, investigation, and production. Too much speculation!
Right from the first episode, one of the commentators speculates about the motives for the police and the district attorney’s office not to share information on the case as other than the fact that it is well known that active cases do not get discussed with the public. Sensationalism increases the amount of audience. In general, the technical aspects of the production of the podcast is superb, as expected from audiochuck productions. Surprisingly culturally insensitive?
Am I the only one who felt like a lot of this podcast is really speculative? And worse then that I feel like it’s drawing a lot of assumptions about how people in the story should have responded based on a white American lens. I don’t know what the cultural practices are of the community in this story but I could easily imagine that it would play into their silence or the husband’s response to the crime. At best they are putting pressure on the police to investigate the most obvious suspect to the crime. At worst they’re directing public condemnation to a man who lost his wife and child, who’s manners may just be different from ours. I couldn’t finish the podcast because it made me feel icky to hear the way they were talking about the family and the community. It felt exploitive. I also didn’t like the way they kept throwing the police under the bus for not sharing information (in an open investigation) But I also agree that it’s a well made podcast. Entertaining to listen to. I’m a fan of audio chuck. Honestly I felt like this fell below the audiochuck standard of sensitivity to the investigation and the victim

20 minute episodes…ugh!
So I started listening to season 2 first and then started listening to season 1 because the binging of season 2 was about 2 hours. I really enjoy the host but I think Ben’s role in season 1 was not great. He was the investigative journalist and yet he was the one acting like he didn’t know anything about the case. Sharon was introduced to us as a director and translator. It just seemed odd and fake. His role is season 2 is definitely more as an investigative journalist but not the best because the two women seem to be doing most of the work. At least that’s what comes across. I would say season 2 is veered towards racial factors being an issue in the case, when it could completely be because of the Indian culture and the environment of where they were living. Where people wouldn’t come forward because “snitches get stitches”. I completely agree the police should’ve done more investigating right off the bat. It seems like people were willing to talk when the murders first occurred. Now it seems like a lost cause to talk to these witnesses. There needs to be justice for these beautiful lives taken too soon. But how??

Interesting & Informative
Well written and thought provoking. I notice reviews comment this or that about race. It would be naive to think race does not play a part in how a case is investigated. Statistics aside both seasons cover a case that clearly did not get the follow thru it deserved. It’s nice to have a podcast dig deep into a case and not just reiterate the same outdated information.

Good but
I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because there’s always a race narrative on these. They say if a victim isn’t white it’s swept under the rug even though whites are killed 5x more by blks and 2x more then any race by cops and it never makes news. Gotta start doing better about not spreading racial propaganda. Tells me your being told what to say.

Not Great
Too hard to listen as they continuously try to make a story out Police not sharing an open investigation. They won’t give us evidence is it because it’s an open investigation (um yes) or because they are ashamed of how little they have done. They also am answer their own questions about why police don’t have many statements from other residents and blame police for not doing their job and then say no one here talks to police because snitches get stitches (if people in an area wont talk to the police then you can just blame the police for an entire high crime area). It’s just too many of the giant leaps to nonsensical conclusions.

Too Scripted
I’ve only listened to a couple episodes of season 1 so I’m hoping it gets better. The content is good, but holy scripted. It literally sounds like the hosts are reading directly off a sheet. The “conversation” aspect is so so so so scripted it makes it painful to listen to at times. For example questions like “well why aren’t we hearing XX’s voice?” was one that stuck out as very unnecessary and fake. I’m going to keep listening. But I hope the scripted aspect eases up a little.

Ummm I assume this is a good story but I had to quit because for entirely unknown reasons they put a bunch of techno music in the background… really distracting and WHY? Lol. I don’t know if they clear that issue up later but it’s a hard pass for me

Season one was good, season two just feels like hearsay and speculation
I know there’s not much information for season two, but googling some names and talking to people who didn’t live in the building at the time of the crime, or even know the family, that’s not reporting. Season two feels like asking someone’s third cousin whom they’ve never met about them. It also feels disrespectful to act like a family that has decided not to speak about gruesome murders on fb is somehow hiding something or being disrespectful. Everyone mourns differently.

Great true crime
I’m from South Jersey and no idea about the Maple Shade murders. This type of thing doesn’t happen in the area often, so it’s interesting that it didn’t get more coverage. 🤔This show balances narrative with investigative reporting and shines a light on the immigrant experience in these situations. For Sasi and her son, there was no family in the country to advocate and fight for justice for their murders, and the family abroad’s pleas were shouted into the void.

He should not be a host.
Ben is not someone I can listen to. I finished the first season and had to force myself to finish. Story was interesting, although it did nothing more than bring awareness. No call to action. No resolution. Female host was terrific and personable. I kept thinking if this guy was interviewing me for a story, I’d want him out the door as soon as possible. I’m not sure how his sources perceived him, but I don’t think he’s the kinda investigator that can charm the secrets or true stories out of people. Ya know? Just too, WAY too dry.

Kept me listening but…
Kept me listening but there’s a strong urge to show that this man is innocent and it shows. Unless I absolutely missed it, this man went to a few places to discard different things and one of them was the same bullets used in the killings and it really wasn’t talked about enough.

Great insight into the criminal justice system from a very different perspective
I enjoyed the format on how you went through the case methodically. It was very interesting to see this view of the criminal justice system from the experience of immigrants and how cultures and different uses of words can impact the individual and the case. Looking forward to another season.

Thoughts
What about the ribbon of the typewriter findings with the weird written passage talking about “lying in a pool of misery without happiness” and “need your arms to hold me, the cold sharpness that you possess?” Very sinister statements. Does this indícate that Robyn had an obsession with the wife or a personal relationship with her? I wish this would have been delved into deeper because it was just thrown in and not talked about. This spells guilt for me and stuck out to me.

Keep it going!
I’m really enjoying this podcast. I hope you keep it going with new cases. This one on K-Town is very interesting, although those police detectives are laughable during the interrogation. I can actually picture them high-fiving each other in the corridor. The critique by the retired interrogator was a very good addition to the story.

Amazingly done. Too close to home
This might be hard to relate to a lot of people who do not have Korean background. Having lived both in Korea and LA , however, their analytical approach to dissect the cultural nuisances within the criminal investigation within the 1st generation Korean-American community (so far season 1 ep3) is so incredibly well done and ON POINT. The story, and heartaches they had to through and going through are too close to home and sometime it’s hard to stomach. Nonetheless the show effectively shows how vulnerable the community can be to the predators and within the justice system. Thank you. I’ll be following your next work.

Very Good Podcast
What the anchors do, quite well, is work off each other. They are far better at the double narrative than many podcasts I have listened to. It’s a solid working relationship that features one person more prominently, while the other person offers ‘feedback’. This system works, generally, during alternate episodes. The topics are interesting and are based on current or timely situations. They are thorough in the research, bringing in outside interviews that are directly related to the topic. Keep up the good work.

Loved it!! Couldn’t stop listening
Ben Adair Sharon Choi The investigative work in this case was what made it so very interesting! I also loved hearing the hosts’ opinions on the crime at nearly the very end. I could see the point about how there could be something off about the way they have Ben Adair referring to Sharon, the, “I want you to, etc.” However, that being said, I do not think there would be near as much controversy with this, if it were a Woman in Ben’s shoes and a man in Sharon’s. My point being that, due to the current culture climate, maybe the producers could swap it up for us or shed Ben in a different light next season. All of that being said, my overall review is still 5 stars!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sharon Choi steals the show!
Sharon Choi is what makes this show. As a Korean American, I appreciate the cultural nuance she added to this and actually would love to hear more from her. It was a little off-putting to hear Ben Adair ask questions as if he didn’t know the answer — I understand the intent but it wasn’t very effective. Please give Sharon Choi her own show and tell more stories of the Korean American experience!

I would’ve given this 5 stars for all Sharon did in investigating and interviewing, especially with the interrogation expert. But Ben’s voice is annoying and he doesn’t add much to the podcast in my opinion. Kind of reminiscent of Crime Junkie’s cohost in the fact that their voices are grating and all they really add is voicing what the listeners are thinking.

Good Investigating, Just Cut Ben Adair Out
Sharon Choi should lead the podcast as main host. She’s the translator and main investigator. Ben Adair doesn’t add much. He’s there to make the cadence seem like a back and forth conversation between the two. It doesn’t really work here; not organic. He should just step back.

Ben Adair takes it down a few levels
It turns out a white guy pretending he doesn’t know anything at all while coattailing on a much more competent woman of color is just as annoying as a white guy pretending he knows everything and coattailing on a woman of color. Sharon Choi is awesome. Adair just should not have inserted himself into the storytelling and should have just played producer. His wooden, contrived Socratic dialogue is a major drag on the forward motion of the story. That said the reporting is great, the writing is great and the production is excellent. Really compelling investigative storytelling.

This case sounds so interesting but…
I first heard about this show from Crime Junkies and the case sounded so interesting so I immediately went over and tried giving the show a listen. Unfortunately after about 25 minutes I couldn’t take it any longer. The main male host speaks with such drollness and vocal fry it’s incredibly displeasing to listen to. When you’re recording audio to convey information, it’s good to make your voice sound as clear as you can and project what you’re saying. Hopefully the host works on his recording voice if there’s a season 2, then maybe I’ll be able to get through an episode.

Interesting case, nine episodes too long
The first two episodes were intriguing and pulled me into the story. Unfortunately, after listening to all ten, I’m baffled as to why they bothered to explore this particular case in this manner. For me, without unassailable new evidence or serious doubt as to how the case was investigated, prosecuted or defended, this type of serial approach isn’t warranted or necessary. I did find the defendant and his story interesting, the backdrop of Korea Town alluring and the possible language barrier during the interrogations compelling. I would have liked a more thorough investigation into the second suspect and his motive. Too much time was spent rehashing an old case rather than researching new possibilities. The synopsis of this podcast is misleading; they never seem to take us where the police didn’t, as very few witnesses were willing to talk, and the new evidence is weak at best and hardly seems destined to change the course of this case.

For those complaining about the two host format: do you listen to many podcasts?? This is an actual format for podcasts. One acts like a foil who asks what a listener might ask. A bit boring
The hosts sound like they’re reading a script, which I get they are, but shouldn’t it sound more natural? When Ben asks questions that are meant to sound like he’s spontaneously asking the question, it doesn’t sound natural. Like the question was written into the script. Sharon could easily have just included that info without Ben asking it. I think the hosts also lack that natural chemistry that successful co-hosted podcasts have, so it sounds more professional. Maybe would be better hosted by Sharon only, sorry Ben!

I really enjoyed how these two traced every avenue of inquiry that was available. I felt their reporting was balanced and exhaustive. I liked that each landed in a slightly different place, in terms of their own opinions of the case. Personally, I was left feeling unsatisfied, because the whole story is still incomplete. The central mystery of why these victims were murdered, and brutally, is unanswered and unknowable with our present level of info. I hope this podcast helps to generate interest and potentially new leads to explore, to ensure that justice is truly served for all involved. Thanks, audiochuck!

Great content, good narration!
I really enjoyed this podcast. The case chosen was interesting and I appreciate the way the explored both the layers of evidence and the cultural aspects of the case. The combo of perspectives created a better picture for me to personally understand it, and - regardless of guilt or innocence - is a more complete version of this story in general. A lot of reviewers have commented on the narration. It took me an episode or two to to feel the flow (I was still interested in the case), or maybe they were getting their flow too in the first couple episodes. I’m not sure. Either way, I still really enjoyed it!! It’s scripted well and I like how they break down the episodes. Once I got used to their style it felt more natural. The female narrator speaks more slowly which just feels like her. If you are having trouble with the narration, give it some time. It’s worth the listen!

The story is interesting and even the script is fine. The delivery is SO BAD. Both the host have terrible delivery and it’s really obvious they are reading. I just couldn’t get past that.

Fell a little short
I’ve yet to review a podcast but I am an avid listener of many different ones. This one started interesting but lost steam half way through. The hosts need to drop The Daily like cadence, it isn’t a good sound. It comes off fake, surface, unoriginal. There definitely didn’t seem to be as much research done on this story as in other crime podcasts. I did enjoy that they shed light on a crime that didn’t seem to get much attention but also think if a podcast is doing crime reporting, they should stick to facts and less opinion & speculation because that is unfair to both sides of the people involved.

Couldn’t stop listening
This podcast transformed my commute to and from work. I truly couldn’t stop listening. So well done with in-depth, nuanced reporting and narrating. Combing a True Crime podcast with the nuanced lens of an immigrant experience in the criminal justice system was so powerful. I can’t wait for season 2.

I really liked this story, however, I felt it was very biased. I want clear objectivity and I didn’t hear that at all, which was disappointing. I like the hosts, and I am still going to follow for next season, but lose the one sided mindset.

The reading was just so off-putting.
It was nice to see a true crime series dedicated to sharing about a historically excluded group. I’d never heard of these murders or the trial. However, the hosts s to work on not reading their script. Sharon is flat and lacking the necessary emotion to tell the story. Ben sounds like he’s trying to ask questions and have a conversation but is still severely lacking. Relax y’all. This is a long-form, verbal storytelling medium which means you have to bring the listeners along for the journey differently than simply reporting. Even the ad reads were rough. I hope that if there’s a second season, they’re able to make some of these necessary improvements.

I really enjoyed this season! It is such an interesting case. It makes me wonder if Robin didn’t do could someone already be wearing a pair of gloves and find his gloves and put them over them. With them being outside they would tear easier but their hands would still be covered because they had the other pair still on.

Good Story - poor writing/ delivery
I really enjoyed the story and found it very interesting. But often times I felt like I was listening to educational television for first graders. Ben is not made for podcast hosting. He struggles with his script, his voice is nasally and his comments felt very dumbed down when listening to Sharon explain. Sharon carried this podcast and I would love to hear her on more. Future direction
I think the killer is someone who knows both cho and the husband. Killer is a mutual acquaintance who though it would confuse the police by leaving a large piece of cho’s glove on purpose. The show should also investigate the husband’s mistresses further as there is very little mention of them other than police did not investigate them. I think the person who typed the letter pretending the give the tip is trying to misdirect the police by purposefully leaving very vague names without giving enough concrete detail to be helpful. Nevertheless the person who typed the letter has some inside knowledge of the home situation of the family prior to the murder and is either the killer or somewhat affiliated /incentivized to muddy the investigation

Interesting podcast
Story is magnetic; couldn’t stop listening. Narrators did a decent job, but can get better after seeing all the comments. Keep it up; don’t be demotivated. I wish podcasters don’t twist stories to make someone look better. The guy seems to be guilty as the jury felt although the interrogation and prosecution did a terrible job. It is possible he got played by someone who paid him to kill the wife and walked away because there was no clues/evidence in that conversation. Also possible that nanny stopped paying him stolen money after his bankruptcy and he got mad.

Wants to be great, actually mediocre
First of all, the heavily scripted writing and banter between the two hosts is incredibly cringe-worthy. For being hosted by a journalist, the writing is incredibly subpar. Not to mention, he has one of the most unpleasant voices and truly has no business podcasting. The other host is some filmmaker and translator with no expertise in the field. It was especially facepalm worthy when they interviewed a former bank robber who “almost became a killer” (read: almost killed someone in self defense) to act as an expert on criminal intent for a wildly different crime. Some of the worst journalism in a true crime podcast in a long while. Also, the whole podcast drags along on a case that’s not that interesting and becomes bloated with useless interviews that go nowhere. If you want tabloid journalism podcast, you’re better off listening to “To Live and Die in LA”

Pretty good
Interesting review of the case, however, it fails to take into account the numerous studies that have exposed flaws in DNA evidence. They buy into the theory that DNA is infallible and relay exclusively on the expertise of the lab where the tests were conducted to explain the results. By failing to interview experts with knowledge regarding the problems the DNA evidence they have missed an excellent opportunity to booster the case for the defendant’s innocent and to further educate the public.

This podcast was awesome. Both hosts were measured in their research presentation and my husband and I found their voices soothing in what is a very frightening true crime story. I agree with others… not a big fan of Ben. His voice is not as pleasant to listen to. Sharon was better, but also definitely sounds like she’s reading from a script quite often. I think the same info could’ve been delivered in less episodes. The background music was also odd at times. It didn’t match the conversation. Lastly, I am not a fan of podcasts where they constantly say “coming up after the break.” I don’t mind the ads, but announcing breaks ruins the flow of the story telling for me.

Struck me as highly balanced, thoughtful analysis of an extraordinarily ambiguous set of facts. The comment on “bias” is especially hard to understand, so much so that I cannot even tell which side the bias supposedly favors. The big disappointment is the absence of a Hollywood ending that wraps up with a satisfying explanation (hardly the fault of the writers though), which I suppose makes the story told by the podcast that much more true to life.

Quite forced
Mildly interesting. Very one-sided to the point of silliness. Treats the defendant as if he’s a misunderstood waif, when he’s actually a convicted felon who conned people to try to get rich. Would have been a better story if one of these dreary script readings had a harder edge and stuck to reality.

Good show, terrible hosts interaction.
It was an interesting show to follow. But the way the hosts “interact” with each other is clearly recorded separately, making it entirely phony-sounding. I would actually argue that the female narrator could do this thing on her own. She did all the work after all, and his interruptions are mostly irrelevant or do not add anything to the story. Shame, it’d otherwise be an awesome show.

The hosting sounds so familiar…
About halfway through the first episode it hit me - Ben is the Brit to Sharon’s Ashley. (Crime Junkies will get it.) The only thing that Ben brings to this podcast is stating obvious facts and observations and taking something that Sharon LITERALLY JUST SAID and making it into a question. It feels so scripted and the constant surprised tone when Ben is asking questions gets annoying fast. I’m going to try and continue with the rest of the episodes because this case is very interesting but I’m doubtful that the hosting will get much better.

Missing the obvious
Interesting podcast and I agree that the despite the DNA, there are questions about this case. While motive doesn’t have to be proved, it does matter in the sense it can help explain the evidence or lack there of. However, I do think the hosts miss an obvious explanation as to why a criminal would miss that his gloves are being torn and possibly leaving DNA. Cho’s an idiot. His financial scam shows that. He promised 4 percent return per month (per month!) which is impossible. If he didn’t start as a Ponzi scheme, it would have to morph into that as he could never pay that. He just didn’t understand basic math and investing. It’s not much of reach to believe this moron wouldn’t understand that his DNA could be transferred from skin cells.

Sharon steals the show!
Sharon gets 5 stars on her tone, delivery, clarity. She’s engaging and makes the show shine… Ben, unfortunately, brings the show down several levels in terms of polish. As one reviewer said, it is kind of like listening to a 10 year old boy contribute and ask questions that sort of insult listener intelligence when a really amazing narrator is trying to tell a story. Sharon is the ONLY reason I’m continuing to listen (waited to review until ep. 6 because I wanted to give Ben a chance to redeem himself or improve, and it just hasn’t happened). Maybe he’s better at the behind the scenes stuff? He definitely needs to scooch over and let Sharon do the talking.

I see that a lot of people really didn’t like Ben. I just feel like the writing was bad and his questions just became irritating. But also Robin sounds like a kindergarten teacher. She’s obviously reading and reading in the way that you would read to a child while pointing at each word individually. There is no way that she talks like this in real life. Why can’t everyone just use their regular voice? Trying to have a “podcaster” voice makes this unbearable.

Did I miss something?
Good investigating and telling the story. The interaction between the two hosts was too stiff and not how people talk. So either make it a conversational or strictly news room. I needed to know where those hair were found at the crime scene? Why were they collected? A bathroom would hold so many more than four random hairs. And secondly, I need to know did Cho start talking about wearing gloves in the interview unprompted? Or did we miss a question from the detectives? If not prompted, and Cho brought it up was it to cover his tracks, was it because the glove evidence mentioned in the heavy media coverage?

I enjoy listening to murder cases, and it doesn’t matter whether a case is especially unusual. But this case was purported to be extremely strange, and it frankly wasn’t. It’s almost like the hosts overpromised and underdelivered. Ben playing the “straight man” role was a bit disingenuous; he obviously knew the answers to some of his criminal investigation questions. I agree with many reviewers that both hosts sounded very scripted, which is a shame after they put all that work into investigating. The episodes get more dragged out toward the end. All in all, I made it through, but wasn’t blown away.

Not up to audiochuck standards
I’ve been a loyal audiochuck listener for years, enjoying almost every single podcast they produce. This one is downright boring to the point where I found myself distracted and having to rewind within episode one just to replay the same thing over so I’d pay attention. The male host is probably a reputable investigative journalist but his podcasting skills fall flat. He is monotone, unenthusiastic, and his commentary where he pretends like he doesn’t know the evidence/story when the female host presents it to us is just laughable. I made it to the end of episode 2. Do not recommend. Stick with crime junkie, solvable, or park predators if you’re after true crime.

This story is EXTREMELY interesting but also EXTREMELY anticlimactic. I don’t mind podcasts about unsolved crimes or verdicts that are questionable, but I didn’t feel like this podcast added any new information. I don’t understand why so many people are upset about the narration - it is scripted exactly how Crime Junkie is scripted. Ben is the Brit. Also, I understand that ads make podcasts available to listeners free of charge, and I want people to make money, but there are so many ads in this podcast that it disrupts the story.

Not recommended
I am a huge true crime podcast fan, and I have listened to many of them. There are good true crime podcasts, and there are wannabe true crime podcasts. This is an example of the latter. There are podcasters who seem to think that the popularity of this genre somehow compensates for a lack of quality, and as a true crime podcast fan I am disappointed by this. I also do not understand why Ashley Flowers fans were given such an enthusiastic recommendation for a podcast which answers none of the questions it asks. The narration is lackluster and unnecessarily repetitive, and the podcast ends with the same results it started with. Disappointing and feels like a waste of time by the end. Good thing it’s free (because of the huge number of ads). However I don’t think that makes up for the overall product presented here.

Ben!! Work on your voice presentation. This would be a phenomenal podcast and I would give it a five star rating, but the forced questions and speech patterns reminds me of the co-host on Crime Junkies, Britt. Not a compliment and brings a lot of bad reviews to their podcast as well. If you put together a podcast (which in essence IS story telling and ALL voice) then you should take the time to really cultivate the art of smooth conversation, question presentation, and voice tone.

Interesting story annoying format
I’ve listened to almost every true crime podcast since Serial. This case is compelling especially because I was born and raised within a few miles of Koreatown. The best true crime podcasts, in my opinion, include interviews and other audio to support the narrator’s story which this podcast has. What I find completely unnecessary is Ben as his role is only to ask stupid questions and make even stupider comments. This would have been a 5 star review if the podcast only had one narrator who it seems did all the investigative work anyway. She’s the one who’s bilingual and seems to conduct all the interviews. I really hope if there’s a season 2, they change the format and get rid of Ben.

I still don’t see how this guy didn’t do it
The evidence suggests that he was a less than competent criminal. Well presented, though.

Great and addictive!!
But where can we find the interrogation videos that they constantly talk about!? It would be great if they released these videos or told the listeners where to find them! I can’t find the interrogation videos anywhere!

Terrible narration
Sounds like they’re reading directly off of a paper. I like the storyline but I feel like I’m listening to Ben Stein (the clear eye commercial guy) On to the next

Totally Bingeable
Excellent podcast with so many layers - culture, the justice system, dna and how investigations are run. Lots of twists and turns in this one. I’m okay with how “bland” the hosts voices are - they aren’t there to entertain just dig into the facts. An enthralling story that needed to be told. I hope we get justice for Mr. Cho if he is indeed innocent, if not he can stay right where he’s at :)

Extremely selfishly biased
It’s an interesting case. Only interesting in “why”, not “who”. However, audio chuck tried to make a wrongfully accused “story” out of it. They didn’t search for any truth, they sought out the best script for their podcast. At least the victims got a 30 second blurb at the very end, while the whole podcast was a sympathy to Cho, a child killer.

Hosts become unbearable
I made it to episode 4 and just couldn’t hang in any longer. The hosts are completely stilted (the guy is laughable) and scripted. Unfortunately, the scripts they are obviously reading are terrible. If you’re 7 years old and never heard of true crime, then this is about your speed. Otherwise, you’re going to spend half of the episode rolling your eyes at why the hosts are asking such basic questions. I’d recommend skipping this one. If it’s ranking well, it’s just because Audiochuck is advertising it on their successful shows - not because it’s good.

Meh. Spoilers in review…
It was okay, it really seemed a bit repetitive going over the same info but never delving into new info/possibilities. The hosts seemed to put on a front about fairly looking at both sides but it seemed pretty clear to me they thought he was innocent. A few of the things left unanswered: Why the heck was he throwing away bullets?! Driving around to so many locations to throw things away was super sketchy. Did they ever check if the murdered child was biologically the dad’s child? Robin’s voicemail to his son from the interrogation room was so strange and then the son didn’t support him in court… what happened?! Doesn’t it seem strange Robin would leave a message in English for his son? Was there any truth to Robin saying records were destroyed on 9/11 or was that just a lie too?

Hosting
Sharon is great. Ben’s voice is not made for podcasting to the point that it is distracting and takes away from the story. Also the story would be more effective if the episodes were condensed.

Top Tier
This podcast is so well thought out and put together, both host are so well spoken they are so unique and balance each other out, I will give 5 stars even with the ads (as another reviewer left a rude comment about the amount of ads) you all need to pay for the time you spend making this incredible podcast . A fan.

Good show
I personally enjoyed the show and the only issue I have is a ton of audio errors where certain things repeat themselves and then I bet these weird skips in some episodes. Made me almost feel like I missed some things that I would’ve liked to finish hearing.

Good story, poor story telling
Like another reviewer said, it sounds so scripted! The story tellers sound so bored, unanimated, and literally like they are reading word-for-word. The actual story is good, however.

Editing Issues in a Q&A Format Podcast
Skips and editing issues rock this ad-heavy podcast, slowly paced and overly “informational,” like they’re teaching a general audience. Not for me

A little iffy but overall good
I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of Ben’s narration. His voice is a bit hard to listen to and I wasn’t able to focus that much when he was talking. This is such an interesting case so the case itself is what kept me listening. Overall, this is an ok podcast. Thanks for all your guys hard work!

Well produced with good technical quality, but not much takeaway or discovery
The podcast sounds so great in theory, but it seems that when the producers picked this specific case they did very little to investigate or further our understanding of what happened to three murdered victims and why. More or less this is a redundant and long recap of a tragedy and the potential tragedy of a man being wrongly convicted. At no point does the team ever suggest and follow any other potential suspect or go that deep with the community members of koreatown. I think they had hoped this case would unfold to end up being a slippery slope of new details and revelations, and I don’t think I learned anything new from episodes 2-10 that I didn’t know in episode 1. It sounds good, has a good concept, but I think there has to be far more interesting and outright egregious tragedies like this that happen to minorities in America.

Good story, horrible narration
It’s honestly like bad acting. It’s awkward and forced. The content is good which is why I am still listening, but it is tough to get through.

Boring
Most of this podcast is recordings of police interviews and trial tapes. The back-and-forth banter style of the podcast ala Crime Junkie doesn’t work at all here.

So good
I love anything true crime but what I love about this podcast is the behind the scenes information they share. They break down DNA evidence and interrogation techniques. I also love how they try to remain unbiased and look at the case from all angles.

Confused
I really like the story line, but I would enjoy it more if the hosts sounded less scripted. Ben sounds confused and emotionless. Sharon, sounds like a audio book I fell asleep to in high school. Be yourself, guys! Stop trying so hard with the theatrics and bad acting. The murder squad explains everything in depth like this podcast, but they also talk like they would in real life which makes it more enjoyable to listen to because it’s the REAL them speaking. When it comes to the case… we’re stressing the dNA and making this a big deal on how he was possibly wrongly convicted, but ignoring the fact that he threw away matching bullets found at the crime scene right after his interrogation? That’s the ONE thing that I can’t get over.

Want to love
I want to love this so bad, because I love everything from Audiochuck, but I just can NOT get over the terrible voice acting. Sharon actually gets more comfortable in the second episode, and she would’ve been just fine without Ben. I’ll try to push through because I want to hear the story so badly. I’ve never been this disappointed in an audiochuck show.

Innocent?
Very captivating story. Based on the evidence provided in this podcast, I believe the person convicted is innocent. Episode 7 really throws shade at the prosecutors use of the financial crimes conviction.

Lackluster storytelling
Thought I was into it, turns out, NOPE. It’s a shame because the key narrative re: cultural miscommunications and the devastating effects they can have on people’s lives is important and compelling. It gets buried or lost through poor storytelling here though. The male host delivers his lines in comically bad, stilted fashion and as if he’s talking to kindergartners. Susan Choi’s perspective is a highlight and wish it would have been just her. Episode 8, they bring in a random former bank robber as an expert analyst on the motivations of killers and what he thinks of this particular case, and it was simply embarrassing “journalism” or whatever they are calling this. Should have been half the number of episodes to tell this story.

The story is interesting but Ben should not even be apart of it. Very monotone and adds nothing. Can certainly tell they are reading from a script but I just wish they would talk quicker.

Very Poor Script Reading
Ben’s “chime in” questions sound very obviously scripted and I almost laugh each time because it sounds so unnatural. The story is good but both of them could work on their script reading because it sounds like really bad acting rather than a conversation. Very awkward and kinda laughable. Even the ads are bad… one says something like “we think you’ll like this podcast because you like interesting podcasts”😂 that’s so vague.

It’s ok
It’s an ok podcast. The last few episodes definitely contain the best content. I feel like the first 5 or 6 episodes could have been condensed into 3 episodes or maybe less. Not really sure why Ben is apart of this. He randomly contributes overly obvious useless banter in a wormy voice.

Not good…
It sounds like they’re reading a script at a 4th grade reading level and trying to make it sound like banter and conversation. It’s really bad. There are a lot of long ads. I’d guess 10 minutes for each episode. The story is far too strung out over 10 podcasts. It could have easily been compacted into 5/6 podcasts. I really wanted to like this.
