Racist Medical ??
So rather than a given population having to prepare themselves for a medical treatment, lets spend time and resources to find away to accommodate them because they are special somehow? No way should a DR spend 3 hours just to save a weave! I had a heart cat awhile back and wasn’t crazy about having my privates shaved for just in case the Doc needed to go in through the femoral artery instead of the wrist. It was embarrassing, uncomfortable and itchy for a couple of weeks but i never dreamed of complaining and asking the healthcare professionals to treat me differently. There is nothing wrong with someone developing a gadget to help EEG technicians deal with black hair/hairstyles but to call the procedures RACIST is out of line and does nothing to help real racists issues that do exist. SV is detracting from the overall issue and just providing fuel for those that are truly racists.

I enjoy Wendy Zuckerman!
This is in response to another listener’s wish to replace the host! Previous to reading that comment I had just rated the show 5 stars and was thinking about why I like this podcast. I do enjoy that it is informative about topics I am interested in, but it’s Wendy Zuckerman that does it for me! Keep up the good work! Thank you

Happy go lucky science
I like how well researched the show is. The topics usually aren’t that interesting to me, but every once in awhile some good ones. Wendy’s overly bubbly personality kills most of the joy of listening. She would be great at telling military families their loved ones had died, “So, I regret to inform you… (pause) But on the bright side…!”

Great Host
Wendy is fun and keeps the podcast light while engaging with hard topics. The team does a good job at keeping to the purpose of the pod- talking tough questions with Science! While bias is often impossible to avoid, I do feel they do a great job just approaching topics with data. And Wendy Zuckerman is funny and keeps it fun!

Review of Reviews!
Great unbiased science podcast. They do a wonderful job of making interesting science topics accessible to all. If you are looking for something more technical, then go find it, and please stop picking on the host! She does a wonderful job, has a pleasant voice, and her puns are funny. So, please take your mean-spirited reviews elsewhere!

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the topics and insights. It makes me happy to read dumb yokels getting mad about trans folk and never fully understanding the difference between sex and gender. All great topics BUT good lord please replace Wendy Zuckerman. It’s not just the accent, but also the dumb jokes and laughing at her own dumb jokes. It drives me crazy.

Going downhill
Used to love this podcast. Then the whole cancel culture movement came around and this podcast has become political. So I’m out. Science excels with freedom of information which this podcast doesn’t support. Hopefully they see the error in their ways and become neutral and stop pushing their own opinions on their listeners. Stuff you should know is a good alternative for anyone looking for another good informative podcast.

4/5 informative. 1/5 annoying.
The science is great. The host is happy and positive. She’s also a bit annoying. The most recent episode was loaded with ASMR - slurping, gulping, swishing. Her and a guest at one point kept yelling back and forth like middle schools. Again, great, accurate science with a touch of annoyance.

Great podcast that blends science and interesting facts together to deliver information in an effective way. I also appreciate Wendy’s willingness to ask the hard questions (when, looking at you monkey pox interview) and her trying to make the most of each episode. I also love the Australian accent - makes this podcast stand out amongst others I listen to. I can’t wait for the next season!

Nice premise if you can stick to it
When it comes to podcasts, there’s a lot of objective presentations of scientific fact… and then there’s Science Vs Jokes aside, it was a really compelling show when it actually followed its premise of presenting what scientific knowledge we have on topics with a lot of misconceptions. And a lot of times, that results in answers we don’t have all figured out because they are areas that need more study. But this show has taken a turn into making declarative statements and presenting one-sided looks at topics that paint a false reality of the situation.

This show is great. They DO focus on the science, which is so appreciated when tackling heated political issues. Used to be my favorite
When this podcast first started I couldn’t get enough of it. I studied science and really enjoyed this podcast. The episode where Wendy says in the beginning that she knows that not only women can have babies. A lady being interviewed was talking about a woman having a baby. I might be a dumb farmer but I’ve never had a bull have a calf. Went woke and abandoned science. Was my favorite.

Puns and Citations? Yes please!
Wendy and the Science Vs team will have you laughing while learning as they tackle some of the biggest questions in society today. Every episode is chocked full of genuine citations you can verify for yourself if you’re so inclined. The team isn’t afraid to admit a mistake nor to give updates when the science changes (as well as why and how it did.) Don’t like the show because you don’t like what science has to say? That’s the thing about science - it exists whether or not you believe in it.

I used to love this show until the abortion episode
I thought this show was balanced but the abortion episode shows it’s just another liberal, atheist propaganda show. The episode claims to take balanced look at abortion. But it is pro-abortion hidden under the cloak of “science”. If it was balanced she would have explored the question of when life begins. Is it 3 months or 3 cells? Maybe it’s point of conception. No one can know, so this opens the conversation to morales and values. The pro-life side of the argument is completely ignored and should be strongly considered. The baby has a right to life just as much as the mother. I will delete this show because it’s clearly promoting atheism by leaving out these kinds of discussion. 😞

Puberty blockers episode is
Horrified that this show is advocating that there is “nothing controversial” about puberty blockers and hormone treatments for children, and based on faulty studies. There are thousands of detransitioners (and it’s a fast growing number) who have stories about their lives and bodies being ruined by being rushed into transition. This is grossly irresponsible of Science Vs. It’s genuinely sick. They take experimenting on children as an ideological crusade and disregard good science that would inconvenience their cause. Disgusting.

Love your science show and listen with my teenager regularly (less sex stuff please - leads to much blushing). Otherwise great upbeat format on great topics and I hope you keep doing episodes for years to come. I listen mainly on Spotify. Great premise, but I dislike the slanted approach
I love the idea of this podcast and the topics that it covers. That being said, it is very obvious that the MC/presenter is pretty biased towards which side of the spectrum their beliefs Falls on, and presents the information as such. It would be intellectually more rewarding and beneficial to both have a host that doesn’t convey a clear bias towards one side or another, and to hear the other sides defense against the largest criticisms lobbied at them. I.e. A point, counterpoint discussion– allow one side to lay a rational argument and the other side to lay a rational counter argument or defense. This way we’re not telling people what to think but letting them sort out the facts for themselves

Spotify: A Deal with the Devil
4 stars because 80% of Science Vs’ body of work is great. The original concept of this show was pure and applied a basic 3-step formula: take an issue, aggregate the best and latest available science, draw conclusions. It was apolitical, unbiased, and genuinely entertaining thanks to Wendy (e.g., see early episodes on guns and polar bears). However things took a dark turn when the Science Vs team announced their exclusivity deal with Spotify, and then shortly thereafter Spotify came under fire for spreading misinformation by hosting JRE. Uh oh, a podcast that prides itself in following the science has just made a deal with the anti-science devil. So in an effort to save face, Science Vs completely pivots their podcast into an anti-misinformation crusade and an episode by episode takedown of JRE. This is supposedly going to last until Spotify ‘does better’? The lack of foresight in knowing that Spotify’s incentives weren’t going to align with those of Science Vs is troubling, but money is an excellent blinder. The losers in all of this are the listeners (who like myself likely weren’t getting their medical advice from JRE) because the Science Vs of yesterday is no longer.

Stop pushing left political ideology
There has been around 15 episodes within the last year and a half that work more as a one sided political opinion column rather than based out of actual science and research. I like to learn and come here for the actual research and interesting facts. I am bombarded with politics already everywhere else. Please stop so I can enjoy the podcast again. This podcast used to be good! If u don’t believe me, look at the other one star reviews. We are noticing Wendy. Just talk about, interesting, fun science things. We don’t need this. More worried about political stance than science
I used to enjoy listening to this podcast until it went from explaining science to being politically biased and following a specific agenda. I am all about hearing multiple point of views but because they think they are right about everything and no one can have differing opinions. They call out Joe Rogan for being biased and manipulating the science but they do the same thing and pick from the data that works to prove the point they want. They don’t give both sides of the story and just pick the controversial things that were discussed on Joe Rohan’s podcast without giving the whole story. They don’t get to call the shots about what is right or wrong or what is misinformation or not. The science changes everyday and unfortunately everyone has manipulated it to their liking so actually take from both sides of the table and not just want you want to hear. That is true science. Remember the definition of science is, “the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.” In other word trying to prove a hypothesis is right or wrong by looking at both sides. So Science VS you are not innocent just because you feel you are doing the world a favor.

More “Demands”
Unsubscribing to this one after God knows how long… Feel free to listen to them make demands of their employers of what you can and cannot hear. It’s shameful that people no longer assume others have the mental capacity to take in more than one viewpoint and then deduce what’s rational or best for them; I guess the science changed. “Take what works and leave the rest” still applies in the real world, and that’s why I’m leaving this one.

What happened to this Podcast?
Science VS. use to be one of my ‘go to’ Podcasts for interesting and entertaining content. Now the podcast has gone down as another agenda driven program….why? I don’t listen to Joe Rogan regularly but I do appreciate his guests and perspective in different topics. All the blasting as misinformation is, well, misinformation. Why are we only suppose to listen to officials who e constantly got many COVID issues wrong? Don’t go outside…wipe everything down as virus is active for 3 days on surfaces (17 days on a cruise ship)… virus didn’t come from a lab….if we all wear masks for 100 days the pandemic will end (Biden)…. If we all get vacillated by July 4th (last year) the virus will be under control (Biden)….I’m not taking that vaccine (Biden Harris, pre election)…Vaccination are effective (maybe with boosters). All non science. So let’s pick on Joe Rogan…. Nothing to see over here! Now on to Trans kids!!! Oh boy!

Clearly some closed minded folks have been posting reviews of late - particularly after your podcast about Trans kids……how anyones take away from that scientifically backed & data driven discussion was “biased and just social agenda of the left”, is insane. I really enjoyed all the scientific data and real conversation with trans kids/families that supports both trans identity, transition, and fair play in sports. As a libertarian, I am pretty disappointed with the show. It’s definitely left leaning and doesn’t ever attempt to show the rights perspective. Excellent Science
It’s difficult to cover why I love this podcast in a short review, but here it goes. Wendy, the host, makes science topics exciting, approachable, yet does not shy away from some of the details that other popular science podcasts gloss over. (This is coming from someone who has a college science background.) Over the past few seasons the episodes have been relevant, self-aware, and informative. From Covid research to the increasingly important investigation into how misinformation affects us, each episode is grounded in well cited, yet exciting explanations and interviews. All I can say is that I’m happy to have the option to to listen without giving my business to Spotify. When they address their misinformation issues I will be happy to go back to their platform. Happy to have Wendy and her brilliant research team back!

Don’t forget what your about
This was honestly my favorite podcast. But the last episode I was extremely disappointed in. You did all the things you said to watch out for in the mis-information episode the episode previous. All the doc you spoke to were treating trans kid with gender affirming treatments they were bias and one sided. The episode was all about anecdotal stories. There was so much cherry picking I couldn’t keep up. You even contradicted you own podcast you did on transgender several years ago. According to your own podcast episode on misinformation I should be extremely cautious about trusting any information from the episode on trans kids. You podcast is literally about telling science from misinformation, and yet there was painfully little science, and a whole lot of misinformation. Please remember what you’re about. Stop convincing me how to think and present the data. Use science. And if the science isn’t there own that. Do better or youve lost a very faithful listener.

Playing to a shrinking audience
One of my top five several years ago. Good production, Wendy is likable, nice length and good topics. Then it dropped science in favor of advocacy for one side. I lean in the hosts direction anyway, but I don't need another NPR. I check a couple times a year to see if it's returned but, my god, now it's unlistenable. My guess is as it became more woke (hate that term), it started losing its' audience. Whoever's calling the shots decided to play to the audience that was left (good pun, don't you think). Now it's like listening to a bizarro world Tucker Carlson. I'll check in again some day. Maybe it's time for a manager who's over 17.

Getting less scientific, more political
It’s quite sad that the recent episodes seem to lean less scientific. It starts to feel that the recent episodes are aimed to attack a well-known podcaster’s episodes instead of focusing on the raw facts and studies (I’m sensing the same kind of cherry picking tactics being used here which they claim that the other podcaster’s guests does as well…). I know I’m not the only person who listens the subtlety when some topics are not thoroughly researched due to lack of study to make an absolute conclusion. Please leave the politics out- just give the straight facts.

“Science”
It is truly disturbing how many times you said there isn’t enough research on this trans issue, but we’re going to keep charging full speed ahead anyways. Is a study of 30 people supposed to convince me that this has been scientifically proven ? Puberty blockers risk bone density and brain development. We don’t have enough research, which means these are EXPERIMENTAL medications. And you claim the authority of science ? Disturbing and dystopian. You never even said what the definition of a woman is. What is the definition of a woman? Gender is a social construction, aka it doesn’t actually exist. Biology matters. In 10 years you will regret telling kids to hate their body. That changing their body will make them happy. Tattoos at 18, infertility at 12. I know you have good intentions and want to help. Which makes this even sadder

Pick you topics carefully
I was a big fan of the show and they tackled some really interesting topics. Now you could guess where their “science” will take them based on the topic before even listening. And I even agree with a lot of their bias, but to say the cherry picking and anecdotal stories are objective science is generous. Would love more debates, competing research, and transparency to the limitations to their own work. That’s a step towards science.

Sadly has become unscientific recently
I used to love this podcast but after 2018 it began to focus on political topics and bias began to creep in. The Covid episodes were the last great work they did, but most everything else in the same time period or since has been progressive echo chambering. Too much cherry picking of sources and experts and very little to no representation of opposing viewpoints. Unfortunately that’s not how real science works, so avoid this if you want a scientific viewpoint. Very disappointing.

Woke Fake Attempt to sound like science
Used to love this show, but the last episode was the least Scientific I have ever heard. Discredits one side of the research by saying it’s biased and then all arguments to the other side say it hasn't been studied that well and gives the antidotes of ONE small child for the SCIENCE. I came to hear equal arguments from both side and the actual research from BOTH sides. Soooooooo biased that you can hear the bias within the first 5 minutes. Should consider renaming podcast to awoke Fake Attempt to sound like Science.

Used to be good, now it’s simply anti-Rogan virtue signaling
I was a fan from the beginning - or at least the beginning with of the show with Gimlet. Even before the current misguided crusade against Joe Rogan, the biases and virtue signaling were becoming increasingly apparent. So, when they threatened to move away from all other platforms and stream exclusively on Spotify (how ironic is that?), I was not very disappointed. Now Wendy and team are back(?) on Apple and concentrating almost exclusively on discrediting Joe Rogan. Dear Wendy, most of us who listened to this show probably were not listening to Rogan anyway. I used to love you, but I’m out.

Lacks intellectual curiosity
Been a fan for a while now and usually appreciate the attempt at quantifying questions or topics that are complex, so I'm rather disappointed with the lazy approach to these past couple episodes around Rogan and misinformation. I'm not a Rogan fan or listener, but it does seem like you found your conclusion and backed your way into your argument. In discussing misinformation there was a great opportunity to explore an interesting question: at what point is the current death rate of covid pose a realistic danger to an unvaccinated and impressionable listener? You settled for the opinion of a student "misinformation researcher" instead of exploring with data science. Lazy and uninformative, does your own show now qualify as disinformation? I don't think the answer matters, because this approach to censorship can lead to overactive censoring, which I find troubling no matter the topic. You explored this idea a little without really diving into the dangers of enabling censorship (creating a precedent that allows your own views to be censored or those who hold heterodox ideas), or who really gets to decide what speech should be abridged, or more importantly why podcasts should be held to some holy standard and yet we have Fox, CNN, MSNBC, NYT, and other mainstream avenues who regularly release misinformation without accountability or transparency. More and more in recent years we have seen a decline in public trust of news sources, I think it's due in no small part to lazy and opaque journalism that simply repeats what those in a position of power (usually gov officials) tell them instead of doing the legwork themselves to verify and simply question the source as a starting point to find the whole truth. This is not journalism, it is propaganda. Stop telling your listeners what they want to hear, tell them the truth which is always more complex and nuanced than we would like it to be. I believe you're better than this. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I have a doctorate in pharmacology and this podcast used to be entertaining prior to the pandemic. They have a very single sided view to vaccines and medicine promoted by the far left. I have changed my opinion ( I love this podcast!)
I have left my previous review below when I had given five stars. Science versus has lost all credibility with me even with all of their fact checking. I listened to the episode about Joe Rogan. You didn’t disprove anything that Robert Malone said. You actually agreed with it, just not to the extent and yousaid that cherry picking is used to support peoples information which, you also said you have done. This last episode about the spreading of misinformation was interesting and that it was only about Joe Rogan’s podcast. It should’ve been called “how to stop miss information on Joe Rogan’s podcast.” Joe Rogan has stated multiple times that he is pro vaccine for those that are compromised. This is my same opinion. I am a healthy woman with a very strong immune system. Since COVID-19 started, I have associated it with influenza. I choose not to get vaccinated against influenza because the only time I got vaccinated for influenza, I got very sick with influenza. I have been exposed multiple times since, and have never gotten it again. My immune system is strong, I choose not to vaccinate for C19 because of my strong immune system. I have had Covid with negligible symptoms (only loss of taste and smell). Everyone deserves a choice to vaccinate. This is also a new virus. We will not know long term affects of the virus or of the vaccine without more time. Maybe you should talk about that… Joe Rogan has also had pro vaccination doctors on his podcast, such as Sanjay Gupta. Maybe you should listen to that… Way to make science entertaining Wendy! I have a big follow up question for the last episode- why did only 700 people on the Diamond Princess Cruise contract Covid-19? How did the other 2300 stay virus free? If only 23% of people contract this on a cruise which is the opposite of social distancing then why is the world’s population locked up at home? Same thing with senior living facilities- what causes some people to get sick but not everyone? Maybe you can address in a future episode

Thanks for the transparency and truth
Love the podcast but particularly your recent work revealing the bunk and dangerous misinformation Spotify and Joe Rogan are promoting about the live saving COVID vaccines. We are all entitled to our own opinions but we are not all entitled to our own facts. Lies about the safety and effectiveness of COVID vaccines and vaccines in general literally kill and anyone who chooses to espouse conspiracy and lies over science and truth is complicit in allowing COVID to persist and to kill. We need to stop pretending that Joe Rogan’s (et al) opinions about COVID vaccines are equal to the facts about COVID vaccines…the facts that COVID vaccines are extremely well studied, as extremely safe and are undeniably effective at preventing severe infection and death. Hard stop. Thanks again…harder and harder to find truth in journalism but I know I can find it on Science vs.

Used to be great
This used to be a really good podcast but Spotify is by far the worst app for listening to podcasts. I am a paid subscriber on Spotify and love it for music , but podcasts – no way. So now that “Science vs” is moving to Spotify-only they’re also losing a listener. They’ve also lost a lot of their unbiased approach that made the show so good for so long. It is pretty obvious now that for many topics they have made up their mind what outcome to report before they even start the research. And now they’ve devoted a whole episode bashing the 1st Amendment - just opinion, no science. Someone said something they don’t agree with on a podcast so they blame Spotify for not censoring the voice. There are thousands of podcasts spewing ideas I don’t agree with - but it is their right to do so. Science Vs just lost a ton of respect from me. 5 stars at one point but now just 1.

Rabbit holes - Won’t be missed
Many points were misconstrued in the episode about Rogan and after finding evidence of most of what Malone said, the host and editor continued to talk about what they “felt” or how it “seemed.” Really? Honestly the show has always been a little weak but I’m glad they’ve ditched the annoying noises they had a year or two ago. I stopped listening for a while. Most discussions go down frivolous rabbit holes that really don’t answer any questions. Tuned in for this episode and going to unsubscribe now. I don’t think they proved anything and it’s wild that they think their show will be missed if they stop making episodes.

Commenting on Rogan be Malone episode
As I don’t disbelieve what you are saying, I will say, like rogan mentioned in his comment, things and information are ever changing amongst this “pandemic”. Maybe results show this now, but it’s only on the cases that may have actually been noticed and it’s only the short term effects. I would like to see tests done in ten years time to prove that this vaccine isn’t harmful. Until then, no one should just be putting “medicine” in their bodies without long term effects and I think people have a right to be worried and concerned and your show laughing it off and dismissing it just isn’t the way.

Most recent 1 stars are from the Rogan episode. I think they did quite well addressing misleading information. Disinformation
So you know what you’re dealing with, this was one of the first shows to slander the lab leak hypothesis as a conspiracy theory. Due to the recent email dump, we know she did this when asked by Fauci and Collins to discredit leading scientists and hide facts from the public. The show is a mix of mistakes and misrepresentations delivered in the voice of a buzzsaw. At least she’s honest in the description if you read it. We tell you what to think so you don’t have to.

Misleading
They start off the episode by saying that they don’t feel like addressing all of Malones comments. This topic is too important to be lazy. Throughout the episode they pretend that the only two options are to either get vaccinated or catch covid. Do we know if omicron causes myocarditis? Omicron is more mild than the post-vax symptoms, btw. Malone was saying that since there are risk, it should not be mandated to everyone. Period.

Maybe it had great intentions, but...
I have tried to listen to this show and the one for the Cuba Virus and CIA was just too much. Spoiler alert: there is no proof that CIA spread any virus in Cuba, but this was just a setup to dismiss the involvement of China in the COVID-19 pandemia. Not the same, but somehow the host of the show feel the need to establish parallels between those cases. The other aspect, they say CIA didn’t needed to spread the virus because the US did damaged the Cuba economy so badly with the embargo that it ends up killing many Cubans. Wendy Zuckerman is basically taking away all responsibility from the corrupted government of Cuba that failed to their own people, while pretending with selective facts to solely make the US responsible for the failure of the Comunism experiment in America. She is also “forgeting” the fact that Cuba was in the center of a crisis during the peak of Cold War in he 60s that almost triggered World War 3. So of course the US didn’t found convenient to have a communist state in their backyard, and they where going to try to do anything to make it fail without getting involved into another war. Now, we can discuss if the embargo is needed today, when there is no Cold War and Cuba is no longer a threat. I think there is no need to keep an embargo now, but these are different times. This podcast, and others like this one, hide behind selective facts to build half truths about their own personal beliefs, while leaving other important facts, like the historical context, conveniently omitted from the discussion. One star.

Disappointed in Joe Rogan episode
I’m a long time listener and fan of Science Vs and Wendy. That was until she moved to Spotify. And although Wendy does seem to imply that Joe Rogans episode with Malone was misleading, considering her audience, I feel that the tone and points she tries to make here are more intended to soften the blowback Joe Rogan has been receiving regarding misinformation and racists language on his podcast. I imagine Spotify pressuring her to do this episode as part of a PR campaign for their most valuable asset, Joe. My primary reason for this image is that it was released on apple podcasts for everyone, not just Spotify listeners to hear. I’m not a fan of sellouts and Wendy, your looking more and more like a sellout :(

I’ve loved this show for a long time, but there is one big piece of information you did not mention in the Joe Rogan podcast and that is discussing whether or not children really “need” to be vaccinated. Are they at high enough risk? Also when discussing it you make taking the vaccine sound like a choice, you just have to weigh the pros and cons, but for so many it isn’t a choice, it has been mandated.

Ladies, well done on your critique of the Joe Rogan interview with Dr. Malone and your contribution to the fight against misinformation. Could you please do the same for the Rogan interview with Dr. Peter A. McCullough from Dec. 13, 2021? Thank You
Writing my first ever Spotify podcast review (Hi, Spotify! Hope you’re reading!) now and not at any time in the last 6 years of listening to the platform, because for the first time I felt a popular and powerful voice that I could hear take a swing against this infuriating disease— misinformation faster than a virus. Dr. Malone’s fear tactics and Cons-without-the-pros-lists are compelling. Science is moreso. Thank you for being bold and firm in data-driven, open-minded, careful-footed exploration and explanation. Still, I wish that the next step was taken in your effort to arm us against misinformation. “Science” as an umbrella term isn’t specific or careful enough, even when broken down into useful terms for calling out misinformation tactics (like “cherrypicking”) because “Science” is the same term, and these the same terms, that the spreaders of misinformation use. In my opinion, the matter comes down to critical thinking, specifically. That is, to take apart the pieces of every argument and examine them individually, together, sideways, and ask every question you can think of— then look for the answers! Tldr; This podcast is worth the time to write my first review in 6 years, of any podcast. Good science. Definite room for improvement. Thank you all!!

This is propaganda masquerading as Science
Why does this show quickly produce a show to fact check Joe Rogan, but doesn’t give Dr. Fauci the same level of scrutiny? Why are there no episodes about the negative effects of Lockdown policies? Why are there no episodes about Ivermectin? Simple: this show only presents the data that supports the narrative that they are trying to push. They want you to believe that Dr. Fauci is infallible and his “science” is absolute. They want you to believe that a comedian having unmoderated conversations is a threat. They want you to believe that vaccines are 100% safe and that no other treatment or prevention options exist. Fauci is science. Men are women. Freedom is submission. Their truth is The Truth. Long time listener, but this show isn’t about science. Science isn’t always convenient to the mainstream narrative. Propaganda is. Goodbye.

Who decides?
Science is nuanced. Your Rogan podcast served to prove that Malone DID have data to back up his claims regardless of his conclusions. Differing viewpoints backed by data is what I want, so I can decide. All day we are bombarded with how the vaccines are the absolute only way out and you are an idiot to think otherwise. Rogan’s interview served to give me the other side. Malone doesn’t get to decide if I take the vaccine, nor does Rogan and neither do YOU Wendy. Give YOUR conclusions, Malone gives HIS and then I get to decide. Please don’t try to stop me from hearing them both because that is NOT science.

Its funny they can’t really dispute the points that Malone brought up they just make a point that all the side effects aren’t a big deal. Bottom Line is This “vaccine” doesn’t stop you from getting covid and comes with risks that we are still just discovering. But how dare anyone bring up the risks?!? Its SAFE 😝 and the side effects aren’t a big deal- just shut up and take your shot so we can all pretend this is going away oh and you will still get covid but you were more protected… we promise. I am disappointed on your stance with Joe Rogan. While I agree, he has had guests who have cherry picked data and uses other tactics to provide false information about COVID and vaccines, this is for the listener to deduce. No one should take podcasts as absolute truth. It’s insulting that you think his listeners, like myself, cannot decide what may me true or false themselves. This podcast makes science entertaining. UPDATED AGAIN 2/5/22 THANK YOU WENDY AND SCIENCE VERSUS CREW FOR STANDING UP TO THE SPREAD OF MISINFORMATION. You didn't let me down. I can't tell you how much I miss your show on Apple Podcasts. Whether you return or not, I applaud what you are doing. I get the feeling that part of Dr. Malone's reason for spreading this misinformation is jealousy over the success of Dr. Kati Kariko, who, unlike Dr. Malone, who stopped his work with mRNA after just a few years, continued with her PASSION, mRNA research, and the development of the current COVID vaccine and is now a billionaire and world renowned. She is currently VP of BioNTech, the co developer, of the Pfizer Vaccine. I also think that Dr. Malone is jealous of Dr. Drew Weissman, who along with Dr. Kariko, continued with mRNA research and also worked in the development of another mRNA vaccine, the Moderna Vaccine. He has also become a billionaire. In any case, Dr. Malone is using his credentials to mislead the public and his behavior poses a danger to others.

I have been following this show since it started in Australia. Zukerman is a real journalistic gem. She and her team allow science to speak directly to those of us who don’t have the time to look at the data ourselves. Science can be slow, messy and confusing but ultimately leads us to learning invaluable information about ourselves and the world we live in. Keep up the good work, we need more podcasters like these today. (Oh, and the show is fun and funny. Amen!)

Nothing of value
A waste of 15 minutes, each time I listened. It’s great if it’s a kids podcast or if you as a listener know nothing about science (and I’m not a scientist, but I - y’know - read things sometimes), but I found myself listening to one after another obvious conclusion that was surrounded by music and sound effects made to make it sound glorious and revealing. Save your time.

Not switching to Spotify
I like science, and this podcast definitely scratches that itch. Interesting topics, excellent delivery (Wendy is definitely one of the better podcast hosts out there), and good research really made me like this podcast… … But not enough for me to switch to Spotify. It really bugs me that podcasts do this. Best of luck to you guys on the move, and it was good while it lasted.

Used to be great, but going to Spotify stinks!
When this show first started, it was very good — entertaining but still science and research focused. But gradually it drifted away from the fact-checking theme implied by the title and started to be just another podcast about general science topics. And now they’ve apparently decided they’re no longer even a podcast, given that they expect their audience to download the Spotify app just to listen to them. Definitely will NOT be following them in the future.

Not unbiased
This is not an unbiased science podcast, they certainly have an agenda. I have no particular political affiliation, yet I feel this podcast leans way left politically. They do not do a good job of representing the whole picture, leaving out, purposefully it seems, critical information at times that does not fit their agenda. Two stars because it is entertaining and somewhat informative. I would compare it to a left leaning newspaper.

Great little Podcast, but won’t be following it over
I’ve really enjoyed listening to this fun little Podcast, but alas they must pay their bills so will be exclusively on Spotify in the future. Rather than download yet another app (which was sorely lacking when I tried it in the past) instead of using my favorite podcast player, I’ve decided to bid Wendy and the gang farewell. Along with this decision I’ll be getting rid of iHeart-only and other exclusive Podcasts (I guess they aren’t really Podcasts anymore if you can’t get them on a Podcast player, hmm?), and cleaning up my devices a bit. I hope I’m not alone in bucking the trend of forcing us to download more apps.

I first heard about this show a couple of years ago when Wendy interviewed one of my relatives for it, and I’ve loved it and told everyone I know about it since then. But Sp***fy is a bridge I cannot cross - they are a bad company doing bad things, and making this podcast exclusive to their platform definitely falls into that category. I've listened to this smart, witty, quality content podcast since when it was still with the Australian Broadcast Company. I am so sorry to see it sucked up by myopic corporate profits-before-podcast-listeners empty ethos. Biased Science
Wendy does a great job picking interesting topics and using humor to make them more interesting, but drops the ball on maintaining the objectivity that should be synonymous with science. More often than should be acceptable, episodes conclude with “Well the verdict is still out, but based on what we’ve seen, we think this…” It’s the last bit, the “This is the conclusion I’m drawing from what I’ve just shared” leading statement that is so disappointing. An example, I just listened to an episode on “Blue Balls” (like I said, great topics), in which Wendy and another female host pontificated on what they think blue balls are, acknowledge that there’s only one published study available, then somehow navigate to the idea that the Patriarchy has bolstered the concept of blue balls at the expense of female health issues. What?? It was like listening to Siri and Alexa agree that consciousness is nothing more than the folly of a organo-centric world. All that said, I only took the time to criticize because I like the show at its core, I just wish they did a better job separating the facts from the feelings.

Your hard work will be in the vain on Spotify. Don’t move to a Spotify lockdown!
I will never listen to anything that you spend months and months putting together on Spotify. I did enjoy this podcast but I refuse to listen to anything that is exclusive to Spotify, even on Spotify. It is a matter of principle. If you move to Spotify exclusivity I will ignore you. You no longer exist as a podcast if you abandon free and open distribution. It doesn’t matter if Spotify makes accounts free now. 1. They could change that at any point. 2. They force you to consume their ads. I am all for supporting science versus but not as a part of a Spotify podcast lock down.

This was a great podcast and if you don’t mind listening on Spotify go for it…but I’ve tried listening to podcast on Spotify many times and the platform is horrible. And now that the staff are looking for their paycheck from Spotify (only) and you can only access it there in the soon future I can’t support them. I fully support you all getting paid but you have to see the possible negative side to this, off the top, you’ll be beholden to ONE company now so the level of trust you project takes a major hit and TWO your limiting the freedom of choice for how users engage. Next you’ll be an exclusively on Facebook…right?! ;) good luck!

I love how you people think we will follow you to another streaming platform. There is a reason why half a BILLION podcasts come to Apple. It’s because Spotify streaming is garbage, the app is GAWD AWFUL, and they will never have enough money to buy enough podcasts to challenge Apple. IMAGINE THE KIND OF IGNORANCE ONE NEEDS TO THINK THAT MAKING YOUR PODCAST EXCLUSIVE TO ONE PLATFORM AND AVAILABLE TO ONLY A SMALL FRACTION OF LISTENERS IS A GOOD IDEA. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 We don’t need you. You need us. And your goal should be to make your product available to as many of US as possible. Incredible. Good riddance. I’ll pick from one of the other 500,000,000 podcasts that are out there.

No longer about science when Wendy plays the “people with vaginas” card instead of saying women when discussing, of all things most defining of womanhood, childbirth. And of course that particular episode would not have been complete without some righteous condemnation of all white people to boot. Wendy, your show was fantastic when it started and stuck to scientific facts. Something seriously changed in the tone of this show when it went to Spotify. At least you got paid though.

Can’t put up with the “PC inclusion “ terms. This is supposed to be a podcast on science. I find it interesting and educational but not if they are going to include political bias. Not a lot of science actually
Meh, there isn’t that much science, careful consideration of all facts and rigor. It is more like “an anecdote versus”, when a story told by a guest is somewhat in conflict with a commonly accepted view. But there is often no broader perspective present. An anecdotal story is not scientific evidence. A single expert opinion is also not scientific evidence, in science experts are usually peer-reviewed as a check on their views. Not in this podcast though - a single experts narrative is usually presented as an accepted fact. The topics are interesting, and the host is engaging and has a good personality. But after listening to a few dozen episodes, this podcast feels more like an opinion piece rather than fact-checking and scientific. Overall grade is thus “Meh”.

Science Loses
I used to love this show. However, in the episode on childbirth, they chose to use “people” giving birth rather than “women”. Wendy said she did this for social inclusion. Sorry to report that only female parts can give birth. That’s the science. So in the case of “Science vs” versus inclusion, science lost. Sad ending for my subscription.

Let’s call it “biased science vs”
I have been listening the show since 2016. I loved it for the fact that was pointing out. In the last year or more, the trend is downward. Almost the shadow of it selves. Biased info, superficial stats that capture only shallow elements, and real info are simply skipped. Last podcast about birth in hospital vs home birth was just impossible to listen to. Their theory goes that, in Us hospitals C-sections are almost 30%, and a C-section brings a 0.4% more likelihood to develop asthma. It is compared with (drumroll) home birth, letting understand that the overall risk is practically the same. Beside the fact that in other first world countries, C sections are only a fraction, one would question why in us there’s this habit, instead of comparing to 20000 years old habit (“since females had vaginas”). With this way of reasoning, we should close all hospitals. After all humankind is tens or Thai sands of year old, and hospitals cover only the last 300 years… I think this is Un respectful for the risk that mothers and babies incurr during labor and birth. Counties like those me and my wife had our son had birth have a 0.2% case of mortality. I have lost enough time listening to useless and biased info. Also too much writing this comment. Fortunately I have cancelled my subscription to the show.

Disappointed
This is a science show but the host said they couldn’t get scientists to say males could give birth so they on their side will use inclusive language. You’re supposed to be about science not worried about pseudo theory. If it’s not science you should avoid it especially when I it brings you to a political statement. Basically just not say anything about it. Stay on science if you wanted to cover pseudo theory then make a specific episode presenting each side, using valid studies and research and have scientists that are experts in biology and genetics. And don’t present and conclusions about it just let the listener decide. But by trying to be inclusive on highly controversial topic does nothing but erode trust that the show is being intellectually honest with their presentation. I like the show but can’t ignore when shows I enjoy and trust to provide good information presents an controversial pseudo theory. I want science to cover science have your opinions but don’t mix personal or management opinions with professional responsibilities. If you want to cover controversial topic then do an episode about it but don’t mix it with other episodes.

Biased
Two episodes in a row now they’ve been biased towards 50–100 year old, out of date science that’s not proven by actual evidence. In the latest episode, she said “significantly more likely“… But then gave the numbers of only 16%. She tried playing it off as though that 16% is likely to be fatal, when in reality it’s not at all. I just can’t trust anything this podcast says anymore, given that they’re not following real science, but instead what some old white dudes said decades ago.

Why are people hating?
I love this show, and everything about it. There are a select few things I dislike, but that’s not what I’m talking about right now, I’m just breaking down what i see in the reviews because I genuinely don’t know why people are hating. #1 Wendy’s Voice This one feels like the dumbest to me because.. it a voice. It’s literally just a voice, and if you dislike that, that’s fine! Nobody is forcing you to listen to the podcast. #2 “Biased” Yes, the show is biased. It’s a show made be real people, with real biases!! But.. the show is based on SCIENCE, and science isn’t a completely unbiased thing, watch the news for 5 seconds and you will figure that out. The whole point of conducting an experiment is to prove your bias. #3 Not Kid Frendly Believe it or not, people will actually complain about this. There are definitely some episodes that aren’t suitable for young kids, though MOST (not all) of the time, you can tell if an episode is kid friendly or not based on the title. That’s all I have to say for know, but I have a quick suggestion!! It would be super cool if SV did an episode of DID or OSSD!! Love your show!! <3

“Cute Fat” was not funny
Normally, this podcast is very entertaining and informative, but I’m very disappointed with the lack of thought put into the language in the latest episode about fat. Calling subcutaneous fat “cute fat” is not a funny abbreviation, it perpetuates fat stigma by attributing aesthetic value to “healthy” fat. I would not be surprised to hear that not a single fat person was part of the editing process for this episode. I’m not saying the information presented isn’t valuable, I just feel like the writers/editors failed to take into account the way this kind of information is often used to bully and dehumanize fat people under the guise of concern about health. The section on anti-fat bias at the end felt like an afterthought, when it’s the thing that affects fat people’s lives the most. Go listen to Maintenance Phase if you want to hear a good, in depth dive into the history of the BMI and the obesity epidemic.

More Pop Science than Science Vs
The show covers many interesting and relevant topics. I appreciate that. However, the show also tries to please too many people by reducing rich data sets to simplistic narratives. The show formula is basically this: 1. Enter contemporary or controversial topic 2. Present data that shows its a little more complicated than appears, and that there are exceptions to what is popularly believed 3. Present anecdotes illuminating a new perspective on the issue that is outside the common narrative and data from a study we all know could never be reproduced in a rigorous peer reviewed study 4. Profit For example, humans have known for thousands of years that you can lose fat through diet and exercise, and that less fat people generally are healthier and live longer. Of course there are exceptions. The show should have sliced the data up and presented BMI standard deviations and correlation to outcomes. But instead stopped at how 30% of overweight people are perfectly healthy end of story. Then presented that it’s actually our biases that cause overweight people to die because anecdotes.

Fatphobic
The conclusions of the episode about fat don’t reflect the research. Efforts to control weight aren’t just “super hard,” they are often lethal, which is why fat stigma that this show is now perpetuating is so dangerous, more dangerous than carrying extra weight. But I guess if everyone had a “normal” BMI, we would “probably” be healthier overall. Super scientific and not problematic at all.

Science versus Delta variant was a complete joke. Terrible.
I typically enjoy this podcast but this was the worst show I’ve ever listened to concerning this topic. They presented virtually no data with the exception of the delta between vaccinated people and unvaccinated people’s viral loads, which, frankly, I couldn’t care less about. Why? Read on. The real statistics they abjectly failed to present concerned the number of vaccinated people who have either died or were hospitalized because of Covid-19. The “break through” cases if you will. According to the CDC website, between January 1st, 2021, and August 2nd, 2021, over 164 million Americans have been vaccinated. Citing the same source, only 7525 vaccinated Americans have either died or required hospitalization due to COVID-19. This is less than 1%. How could you possibly not report this? Remember, the vaccines were shown to be about 95% effective in reducing deaths and eliminating hospitalizations. Seems to me like they’re working even better than expected. Additionally, how could they possibly not report that of those 7525 people, 74% were age 64 or older? Do they have an agenda or has their show deteriorated to the point where it’s just really, really, bad entertainment? They had a real opportunity to report the science and they failed miserably. Stick to G-spots and other fluffy topics and let the real scientists speak to this topic.

Promoting highly processed dog food
I’ve been listening to this show but this past episode quite frankly is disappointing. Not sure what companies sponsor this show but how can they imply that highly processed kibble can be as good as fresh organic raw foods for dogs. For a science show that makes absolutely no sense. We all know that processed foods are bad for humans so it’s safe to assume it’s the same for other mammals. Also, the science is very superficial. I wish there was more meat to it and it goes deeper into the scientific explanations as well the soundness of the analysis.

Great Style, Poor Content
Delightful to listen to. And an excellent and much needed core idea. However the technical competence of the team make it problematic. After listening to many episodes, sensationalist titles are followed by rants from legitimate scientists and doctors, who however hold views far from those generally accepted in their fields. As an example, in my field of energy, MZ Jacobson and collaborators are highlighted as experts. Yet among their peers, they are widely viewed as cranks. This type of mistake demonstrates a lack of sophistication, and of journalistic rigor, among the podcast’s staff.

Diminishing scientific content
I’ve loved this show from the beginning, but recently they’ve been skimming the surface of their topics and not sharing any of the real data and details like they used to. The titles have also gotten really click-baity and hyperbolic, to the point where I almost don’t want to listen to the episode…and then I give it a shot and realize it’s still a legitimate science show. Hoping they come back around and become a five star show again!

Horrible grating, screeching voice
Love the show but the grating voice of the host makes my blood pressure go through the roof. I do LOVE Australian accents but I can’t understand why she exaggerates so much. She should listen to her podcasts and tone it down. She does not sound as bad when she interviews someone on the phone though… sorry, so sad.

Dog Food Segment
Thank you for Wendy and Rose for doing this research on dog food ingredients and DCM and explaining it well. Both of my Golden Retrievers died from diet-related dilated cardiomyopathy after eating grain-free food . I never knew to report their deaths to the FDA until I joined the DCM groups on Facebook which have been wonderful support for the thousands upon thousands of pet owners who have lost their dogs (and cats) to this disease. The statistics are low due to underreporting and all these deaths could have been prevented especially after that cat study you reported on was done! Dedicating this review to my golden girls Ella Bean and Maisy Grace.

I love this podcast and have a total nerd crush on Wendy. The best science backed info and a healthy dose of puns, nerd humor, and an absence of agenda. Science Vs Hit or Miss: Screen Use
Part II of review for this episode (adult portion): Again, if you know much about the topics being discussed, you’ll find episodes of Science VS potentially infuriating because there is often little actual data given or interpreted or contextualized. For the effects of adult screen use, we might want to know about the algorithms determining what we see on FB, IG, Google, etc. Check out the podcast Brave New Planet, episode on algorithms and developing AI. Also worth watching The Social Dilemma (streaming on Netflix). I’m not advocating any of the conclusions here, but fill your mind with various datasets and assessments and consider for yourself. Psychology isn’t the only field studying the effects of screens on adults, teens, and kids, though it is presented here as if that interpretation is enough.

Science with a side of wit!
I subscribe to 17 science podcasts and this is one of my favorites. In a podcast universe of science shows that try to cover many things in a single episode, I especially appreciate the more in-depth focus of Science VS. Wendy is a fantastic host and I enjoy her humor. I also find her voice and accent quite pleasant. She deserves more accolades for her contributions as a science communicator.

Educational but still very enjoyable!
This podcast gives a lot of information well not being too nerdy and just listing facts. Science VS feels like a TV episode rather then a book listing facts. The Science VS team and Wendy needs more praise. A lot of people are hating on Wendy but her voice is great and she is funny. It is entertaining but still educational and that is why Science VS is so great.

Science Vs Biased reporting
This podcast is just cherrypicking papers and studies that support what the reporters want to argue. No actual scientific reporting is done. Oh this one paper said this, but actually we found this paper and researcher that say the opposite so obviously the first paper is wrong. That’s NOT how science works Also the host’s voice is quite possibly the most annoying thing you could possibly listen to. I’d rather plunge knives into my ears than listen to this woman on my drive to work in the morning. Avoid this podcast. NPR has much better podcasts with actually good reporting.

Annoying Host Okay Topics
The host doesn’t have a good voice in my opinion. She tends to be overly happy and laughing and it’s distracting and annoying. Like I know she needs to make the topics interesting but she laughs at things that aren’t funny and it’s stupid. I don’t know I just don’t get it. Anyways I give it two starts instead of one because I do like the topics generally.i think my breaking point with this host was on the latest episode “Screens:” she was just doing too much. 🙄🥴🤮

How science created Morons
I have to say that was the most interesting pod cast I have listened to. How an American psychologist from the 1890s did a flawed study on a family in created the word moron.. this became the basis of a family that the German Nazis used to justify their extermination of the Jewish people because they were all seen as morons. Well done very eye opening

That’s not science
More like “ Cherrypicking vs”. I didn’t mind initially (I’ve listened to most of the episodes) but over time the formula became increasingly off putting. The show seems to start with a premise and then proceeds to work backwards looking for support. I guess telling people what they already believe is a path to popularity, but science it is not.

Love this show so much I re- listen to episodes, but PLEASE quit it with the covid episodes. We don’t need any more updates on covid, we get them from literally every news program, STEM related podcast and blog, general conversations, and all media I can think of. Sick to DEATH of covid, I listen to podcasts to get away from having to hear about it on infinite loop. You advertised months ago that we would get non- covid content, yet when I checked my episodes this week there was YET ANOTHER covid episode. Please stop you have more to offer than the same covid news everyone else is spewing. Other than the covid crap very fun and informative podcast.

Annoying Host
While the information was nice to hear, the host on the 2 episodes I listened to, Wendy I found to be extremely annoying. The poor production and additional similes and add in clips made this more annoying than the fun and quirky play she was attempting to make. It seemed faked and childish.

Love
I love the host and this show. Super entertaining. However...the Reparations episode has me screaming inside over the concept of “baby bonds”. Do any of the people who are excited about this idea know anything about child development and the effect of poverty on the developing brain and the future of children? Can you imagine worrying about housing, feeding, clothing, and keeping your toddler safe - let alone not being able to raise them yourself because you have to work 60-80 hours per week just to hang on the slightest bit - all while knowing that there’s money in a bond for that child that can’t be touched until poverty has already set them far behind their peers? For most people, no amount of money given in young adulthood could erase the disastrous effects that poverty has on a child. This seems beyond cruel. Why handicap an entire extra generation or two instead of giving reparations now?

Awful
I only listened to Guns, but it’s a textbook example of cherry-picked straw man arguments. One example: to debunk the claim that guns are useful defensively, the host cites one person’s erroneous claim that this happens 2 million times per year. If you believe that she “proves” the real number is 100,000, that does not subvert the original point. 100,000 is a much bigger number than I ever imagined, and I think makes the opposite case. The whole show is like that. I would recommend listening to this for the sole purpose of testing you’re ability to spot fallacious arguments. She does not demonstrate a single thing she claims to, and the only science here is the science of cognitive bias.

Grating voice
It’s an ok podcast. I find some topics interesting, though nothing revolutionary. What keeps me from subscribing or listening more frequently is the host’s voice. It’s not her accent; I’ve lived in Australia and normally find the accent pleasant. Rather, it’s the tone and pitch. It’s very grating and tough to have pulsing in your ears.

Mixed review
I used to get frustrated when I thought they got the Science wrong, but at least they seem to be trying to be fair. Lately this program isn’t even about Science VS. It is clear that they start with an opinion and set out to prove themselves right. If you know some of the data is wrong how can you trust any of it? And a lot of their data is wrong. Bought and Sold
I used to trust this show but it seems like they are more focused on the predetermined narrative than finding out what the actual truth is.They leave out information that would make the story less sensational. This made me realize I can’t necessarily trust the “science” they expose. To top it off they let J&J sponsor the show- a company who invests heavily in promoting false research so they can hurt people and take their money.

Very little science here.
I really wanted to like and be exposed to some new ways of thinking. However, all of the episodes I listened to cover lots of theoretical ideas that aren’t based on any science, much less reality. Lots of “expert” interviews telling very convenient, circumstantial evidence. I’ll keep listening for awhile to see if things get better but please listen with a critical ear and think for yourself... something lots of people these days aren’t taught to do.

Effective is not efficacy
I love this podcast but was very disappointed that the last episode kept saying the recent results of vaccine studies were 95% effective. Not true. I’m not going into details but for a science podcast they should know efficacy is not a synonym for effective which is always lower than efficacy. I think a clarification on the next episode is warranted.

Hard to Listen To
As an avid listener of informational podcasts, this was so hard to listen to. The only reason I made it to 7 min into the Cuba/CIA episode was because I was cleaning. Bad structure, bad editing, doesn’t seem well informed or prepared to present the topic at all. I felt like I was listening to a pre-edited version or a run through of what the podcast should have been. Frustrating because the topic seemed it would have been interesting had it been presented properly and effectively.

Feeling surprised
Listening to an old COVID episode and hearing Wendy call Dr. Fauci by his first name, Anthony, repeatedly during the episode really surprised me. Especially that this was published at a time when anti-science rhetoric was so strong.
