Abortion Pill Episode Missed the Mark
I typically like the show, good quality stories in a well packaged audio format but what was that abortion pill episode?? 40 minutes of suspense for what? A donation that went fine. I get that you wanted to add suspense but I waited for the other shoe to drop the entire time and it was just …….yeah everything went fine. Disappointed 👎🏻

In Awe!
I have been listening to this podcast for sometime now, though the “Stuck@Work” episode really moved me. This subject has been something I’ve been reflecting for quite a bit and the story of the Portuguese journalist and her father just stroke a number of chords. Please continue with that series on work culture and the great content! Thank you.

Earlier ep. are better
The earlier episodes were great! They really sucked you in. These newer episode though, it’s like they’re trying to be real artsy or something. They’re focusing too much on their new “style” and not enough on the actual stories. I had to unfollow because it was too distracting for me. Definitely check out the first couple seasons though if you’re new to the show. They are amazing!

Consistently engaging and surprising!
Rough Translation is the podcast I look forward to listening to the most. It is unique amongst all the podcasts I know for its ability to start with one premise, based in the United States, then highlight a contrasting approach to the same situation situation in another culture, and then turn the resultant expectations inside out. If you don’t know what that means and are interested, I highly recommend you give this marvelous podcast a try. In exposing underlying contradictions and ironies, an unparalleled depth of insight is presented. This progression of accounts showcases the complexity of everything. Everything.

An authentic and engaging listen
This is my favorite podcast. The stories and subjects are authentic and real and emotional without feeling corny or over the top. Each topic is so interesting and you really learn something, but you don’t notice because you are completely engaged the whole episode. Such genuine humanity comes through that I usually tear up one or twice while listening. Can’t recommend enough.

“Om in India” and “Refugee Dating Coach” were very relatable like a book you can’t put down. This is the first time I’ve felt it with this podcast but I had unsubscribed due to “fear of death by sheer boredom” a few years back but I’m definitely on the fence and staring in the window —— and I have to say I like the view.

Terrible Depiction of Vets
NPR really missed the mark with Home/Front. I don’t understand why they chose to highlight this one abusive, miserable vet rather than someone more representative of the majority of veterans. In an attempt to “bridge the Civil-Military divide,” this series portrays veterans as a dangerous burden to society. The vast majority of veterans are hard working, skilled, respectable citizens who volunteered to protect and serve their country. For many listeners, this may be the only deeper look at veterans assimilating back into the civilian world. Unfortunately, it paints a distorted and violent caricature of veterans using one outlying example.

Did not achieve what it set out to do
I feel that the Home/Front series did not achieve what it set out to do. The Civilian Military divide seemed to be ancillary not the main point of the stories. The first episode indicated to me that this was a series about the difficulty integrating military/veterans into civilian areas and to tell stories about what most veterans go through. Then then proceed to spend half their time of the series of a wounded veteran and his struggles with PTSD. His story was tragic but most of it, in my opinion, had nothing to do with the divide. Additionally, I feel the podcast did itself a disservice by focusing on him so much. To me they are perpetuating the stereotype of the wonder and mentally unbalanced combat veterans. His experience is not the more common experience, but by spending 3 out of the 6 episodes not the opener about him, it would indicate to a person who doesn’t know a veteran/military member that this is who we all are (I am an Iraq War veteran). The episode about the development of the refueling program was a bit closer as it talked the difficulty a Silicon Valley startup had in selling to the military. But it was one-sided and only presented the military as a bureaucratic nightmare it is to try to work for the military. It did not offer any reason why it is or has become that way. The last two episodes about Marla were interesting, but again, they left out how she was able to bridge this divide. Merely that she did. It was more conclusory than explanatory.

Home/Front
Overall, this podcast has been hit or miss for me. There are some episodes I have more interest in than others. I’m a civilian with extensive experience with the military. While I can’t question the individual experiences of the people interviewed (obviously!), some of the things they say are just factually incorrect. Alicia in particular. It would be great if someone fact checked her, even after the fact, just like journalists do with other information that is put out there.

Home/Front’s Perspective: Abuse is Maybe Justified
As someone who’s done work with sexual and intimate partner violence and the spouse of a military member, I found the Matt and Alicia storyline to be told in a very concerning way. It doesn’t seem they consulted a domestic violence expert during the project and didn’t contextualize Matt and Alicia’s relationship in a domestic violence sense (violence is frequently related to control, it frequently escalates, it can be deadly to civilian women, choking someone to death is particularly correlated with future violence). Staying in an abusive relationship with a veteran was portrayed as a harrowing sacrifice for one’s country, rather than also the result of a culture that excuses violence as well as specific aspects of intimate parter violence. Additionally, the way the military apparatus and individual military members both minimize and excuse sexual violence wasn’t explored. Domestic violence in the military is a known issue, the minimization of which has taken people’s lives. This arc in general treated the problem of domestic violence among military spouses as a problem of inadequate support and a society that doesn’t understand the sacrifices related to being a military spouse. While this may be the case, the separation of military vs non-military spouses experiencing abuse is a false dichotomy that further isolates military spouses experiencing abuse. This is especially concerning as isolation is a key factor in intimate parter violence. Tl;dr : Home/Front (1) has the bias of taking at face value military member’s portrayals fo the civilian military divide and (2) perpetuates (and doesn’t challenge) myths that encourage military spouses experiencing abuse to stay in relationships

Home/Front: Battle Borne an absolute balm
I am a civilian who hasn’t known anyone in the military very closely but this episode was so healing for me. I was raised by a parent suffering with mental health, including Bipolar Disorder, and there are very few stories out there that speak directly to the pain and trials of the caretaking family. It’s amazing how many parallels there are, and I really needed this. I hope to see more stories like this because feeling abandoned by any official/government/professional help—and therefore the crushing responsibility of feeling like the only person in the world who can and will help—is a key component in what makes this so hard, especially when it is an abusive relationship. I want any veterans and families of veterans to know that this isolated forced martyrdom isn’t endemic to military families, but a common theme in the experiences of disabled abusers and abused caretakers all around the US. I’m angry that the VA and American culture at large talk big talk about taking care of veterans and still don’t help, but with my experiences, I’m not surprised at all. I hope to see a shift in our society’s care for veterans struggling with mental health and their families. Maybe it will usher in help for civilians too. But I won’t be holding my breath. Thank you for telling this story. It made me feel less alone and it brings attention to a kind of pain that rarely feels understood. Sometimes hearing that another person has survived that same tragic catch 22 is all the help you can get.

Immersive storytelling
Deep dive storytelling, thoroughly engaging. RT writers draw upon personal histories of those whose lives and lived experiences are at the heart of the stories. These are intimate conversations about complex experiences. It is often messy, of course, and there are rarely perfect endings. Lucky for me I’ve learned by listening to more than a few episodes of “Rough Translations” that sharing deeply in the stories of others can help me come to terms with the imperfect endings in my life.

EMBODIMENT of TBI
Episode 2 is Powerful! The mental effect we suffer is difficult to imagine let alone create. As loaded as it is a TBI can be embodied through Matt’s Combat amputations...I have immense internal damage from my TBI. That has a negative effect on me. War Pigs
So we’re supposed to feel sorry for this guy who chose to join a genocide? What is the average payout per capita for our service members? How much does that less than one percent of our society cost the rest of us? How much have we wasted as a country on unlimited and un-winnable wars? Seriously looking forward to hearing from the 99% of citizens who actually WORK here in THIS country to ensure a more productive (as opposed to the DESTRUCTIVE strategies of all military) future. Though my dad served and urged me to join, I have forever held the notion that the privilege to which our military pretends and is given license is completely unwarranted. Military discounts should be outlawed! Our collective obsession with viewing violence from a distance must stop. The dehumanization and train wreck voyeurism of others needs to be called out. Our military and the media’s depiction of our unique villainous prowess is the point of the spear. No more lionizing the murderers. There was probably a point in time when we sent our young men off partially to purge our societies of the most reckless. The returning veterans had credibility once upon a time. Our dominance and national media driven regret at the death of even one of our own has now negated that potential benefit. Now the sacrificial lambs, the cannon fodder, those our leaders deemed expendable come back irreparably damaged as a burden on our progress as a society - programmed to kill and incapable of integration in the non-violent society we profess to desire. This podcast does have the potential to allow that one percent to hear why their particular social station does not make them special nor better than those of us who choose to serve our country productively. Seeing all the veterans return and buy new mustangs and camaros is sickening to those of us who work. It’s just another glaring example of the waste our armed forces exemplify. Want to narrow the “civ/mil gap?” Stop giving special perks to idiots. There are “civilian” jobs more dangerous than military - choosing to put your life in danger doesn’t obligate anyone to privilege. We have been involved in unnecessary war for more than two decades now. Anyone who chose to join with that knowledge deserves no special consideration. Their “service” of our oligarchy should, in fact, be questioned at the highest levels. See: Black Sabbath War Pigs

Homefront series feels out of place
I was a fan of earlier seasons with a more international bent. This new season about the military feels out of place and I have to admit that the initial episode really put me off the podcast. The civ/military divide may be a real thing but that episode presented it as a problem with the civilian population as the one at fault. No matter the hardships our active military personnel and veterans may face they are hardly a marginalized group in this country and I was a little disgusted to hear it being framed in this way. I’m going to listen to a few more of these episodes with an open mind but I’ll have to unsubscribe if the others continue in the same vein.

Vets and their benefits ie home/front
I served during Desert Storm, Bush Sr let us take early outs afterwards cause he cut the military. I never knew that I was still eligible for benefits until a vet friend urged me to go during Covid to ensure a vaccination space. When I talked with a counselor, I learned that MANY vets from my generation struggle with knowing what they are still guaranteed. Especially women and especially homeless vets have been left behind. A lot of us won’t even talk about having served cause our stint in the war was short. I continued to serve another 7 yrs in reserves after Desert Shield.

US military washing
Is this a joke? A problem is that people outside the military don’t understand it? NPR is addicted to both sides bologna. Episode 6 has the audio of a man who is preparing to attempt suicide, with people screaming for him to stop in the background. It’s shocking and shows no regard for the safety of its listeners. Your show did a show about White Supremacy, I would like your unbiased point of view about these 2 groups, one considered a Terrorist group (Antifa) and what Americans can expect from these 2 groups in the next 4 years. ————————————————————————— I remember the first time I heard Gregory Warner in a report for Radiolab. It was the episode for the Afghan Elvis. When I heard him talking and telling the story I New right away that he was a great story teller and that I would like to hear more from him. Well Done, Interesting & Informative
This podcast is one of the best that I have listened to. It is well done, the topics/stories are truly interesting, professionally presented, but not at all stodgy or dry. Unlike some podcasts that have hosts that banter & laugh so much that can make a listener feel as though they are eavesdropping on a conversation between friends instead of listening to a “podcast”. The topics & guests remain the focus. Excellent job, all. Thank you so much.

Outstanding Analysis
When it comes to information about life outside the US, this is the kind of journalism I’ve been searching for over the years. I respect the fact that their coverage is, in some respects, limited to the perspectives of the people who are willing to offer their perspectives to the corespondents involved. However, on the one hand, the team on any given story does their best to research and include perspectives which are not the focus of the story. On the other hand, I really appreciate the creators’ choice to focus on the specific perspectives they explore.

"Radical Rudeness" tells of Stella Nyanzi, a feminist activist, poet and academic, as she fights corruption in the Ugandan government. She cunningly lobs personal attacks at the president, Yoweri Museveni, with elaborate curses, mockingly erotic poetry on Facebook, and public nakedness in an effort to get under his skin. Worth a listen.

My favorite podcast
I listen to a lottttt of podcasts, but Rough Translation is my absolute favorite. Its mix of journalism and human interest story telling that connects global characters to universal topics is what makes this podcast special. I’ve listened to “War Poems” from several seasons ago at least 5+ times. Subscribe, you won’t regret it.

Great storytelling
Gregory Warner and his cast do a fantastic job of researching and telling stories through the voices of many around the world. As they say, love is in the details, and their stitching togteher of all the details of a story with dedicated production creates a fantastic and engaging podcast. Thank you!

You can pick any two episodes and they are very different but both super interesting. I love the tone and how things are told! I never miss an ep...and I’m picky.

Dalit’s
The problem is you have to live in India to understand the situation, in your story you covered one overly eager Dalit guy. Being a Brahmin in India is almost a crime. I am from south and although not a Brahmin from the so called upper class. The Dalit is used In North Indian and is Hindi word I heard it only after coming to USA. Dalits are classified and belong to schedule caste(sc) and/or schedule tribe(st). Combined together sc/st have over 50-55% reservation in everything from universities to government jobs plus all the other minorities like Christians, Muslims and refugees etc etc add upto almost 90% of quota for the college seats and govt jobs. The Brahmin’s and other upper castes have to fight for the available 10% plus if a person who is in the reservation category is extremely smart then he gets the seat out of the regular quota. This is like a reserved handicap spot if you have a handicap tag you can park in regular spot still keeping all the reserved parking for other handicap persons. The reason me and some of my current friends (so called upper class) came to USA because we are not able to get into higher education or get decent jobs even after maintaining equivalent of 3.5-4 gpa. A Dalit can get a very good job even if he has a gpa of 2.0 and takes 5-6 years to complete a 4 year degree. Plus the education is completely free even if a Dalit is from a wealthy family. The reservations don’t stop there it even applies for public sector franchise’s like gas stations etc.. Even if the Dalit is from a well to do family his/her education is completely free. Regarding one more point the guy made about menustrating women not allowed into kitchens it is not the Dalit or other lower caste women working at the Brahmin’s house. Just want to clarify a Brahmin menustrating women wouldn’t enter her own kitchen the men of the house would cook or eat out. The problem is this is all old era like 70’s -80’s when sanitary napkins was not used or not what it is today. The Indian women used old rags during menustration which was not very hygienic. in the modern days of mid 80’s- 90’s when better quality sanitary napkins were available the practice ended now women(girls) use tampons and even swim during periods. The idea of not entering kitchen or temple or pooja room in a house is thing of the past, some very conservative women still don’t go to temples or do pooja during there periods. This is a typical off all women’s not just Brahmin women. Regarding making a dog vegetarian is totally absurd people in India fed what was left over food. In most homes the dog stayed outside the house and again this is all in early days. In our house in Texas we have a dog we feed him the dry dog food which supposedly has meat. we are vegetarian’s by choice so what ever small craps of food our dog gets ends up being vegetarian. For Mindy or Senator Harris it is difficult to comprehend or know all the affects of the caste system staying and growing up in USA. I can assure that because I have a teenager and my friends who have grown up kids who have no clue about the caste system. Just one more point I have never asked anyone there caste yes some last names are obvious you can make out but none of my friends who are Brahmin or other upper castes wear a thread around there neck. It almost feels like some people pull the race card when they are not able to perform.

Suggestions for my favorite show
Absolutely adore this show. I’m writing this review because in an episode I recently listened to they said they were looking to hear from the audience about what they want more of. What I love about the show and what I’m looking for more of are stories that give me (an American) insight into the mindset and mentality of nations not my own, the more different from my own culture the better. A great example is the episode with the mother from the American military family living in Japan. That episode was genius and truly enlightening. What I really enjoyed was the descriptions of how the Japanese school system basically singled them out and tested them in ways that an American school system never would. Like how they were told in five different ways not to pack soda. I laughed but it also made me think. A school doing that in America would be considered wildly out of line and prying into things that are none of its business, but yet by the end of the show I actually thought the Japanese way of doing things might be better. Like the way the family leaves Japan and their child is bombarded by letters from his former classmates saying they miss him and asking when he’s coming back and it doesn’t seem like they’re just being polite. It seemed like they genuinely miss him. And how the child missed Japan. That truly blew my mind. That would never, ever in a million years happen in the US. I live in a land where I rarely even know the name of most of the people living next door or across the hallway from me. Most Americans think of that level of community they have in Japan completely impossible as a law of human nature. That’s why it blew my mind. I can’t believe there’s a place on Earth like that and I really think I’d be a lot happier in a society with that kind of harmony. There’s no amount of GDP growth or shareholder value that can replace fraternity and love. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from the whole corona thing it’s that there are serious drawbacks to maximum individualism.

Storytelling magic
Rough Translation is why I love radio journalism. It has given me an ear into distant corners of the world, everywhere from a Jane Austen Society in Pakistan to prison in Somalia. All of the stories, even those that depict situations I could never relate to, have a strong empathetic power that inspires the listener. Rough translation has honestly changed the way I interact with the world around me. I am constantly on the lookout for cultural parallelisms and stories from far away places that hit close to home.

The kind of podcast everyone should listen to
Hi! I’m a huge fan of journalism in general, especially when it comes to examining cultures throughout the world in order to discuss important issues back in America—which is exactly what this podcast does. I got into it by listening to episodes about French culture, something that’s more familiar to me due to having studied it myself, and ended up really enjoying the show overall, to the point where I’ve listened to and learned from episodes featuring cultures I’d never even thought to look twice at before.

But what’s the point of claiming that China is only selling PPE to other countries instead of donating? You don’t think China donated anything to other countries? Do you know in addition to donating, China also sent teams of experienced doctors to assist many countries? This type of false reporting is pathetic trying to fit into the mainstream US view of China. Have to say though this podcast overall has less bias than most other US media 👍

Nothing New, Still Old Viewpoints
Even if NPR is not Trump’s friend, it’s still an American media. Just don’t expect anything good or even neutral for China. Every country or society has its own strengths and problems, unique or not. However, most American news just focused on the bad side of the supposedly rival countries, especially China. It’s just a way to influence its people. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad podcast, but apparently not that impressive.

So biased interpretation of China
In the latest episode, Dr. Zhang Wenhong’s comments were interpreted as being “feared”. This is so biased interpretation. Dr. Zhang is regarded by many Chinese people as a professional doctor who has the courage to lead in this crisis. All of his public sayings are coming from his real thoughts. Himself a communist party member, his earlier proposal for communist party members to act first is not coming from grumbling or complaints, but from his courage to sacrifice. His later comments on the positive situation is also based on the real outcome here. He has more than once made it very clear that he can tell nothing but truth. Whoever interpreted any fear from such a hero must be having tremendous fear in themselves. If your episode wants to cover so-called culture in other countries, at least do your homework and study what are common Chinese peoples’ thoughts. Expand your interview coverage. Check more netizens’ comments on Weibo. Don’t just cherry pick those minority voices which can only enhance your prejudice. As a common Shanghainese, I have been listening to different NPR podcasts for many years. This is the first time I feel one of NPR episodes can be so ignorant and arrogant.

Incredible
This is an incredible show, in an ever globalized world it’s so important to learn and compare the inner workings of culture through skilled story-telling. War Poems is my favorite episode. As soon as it finished I replayed it right away, and then played it again for my husband. These are the stories that need to be told on NPR, that day something about the human soul, and about the structures of government and their affect on the human soul- cultural miscommunications and how far wrong they can go costing people their lives- cultural cross communication and how powerful it can be when done right. I would love to hear more perhaps about the scene in SE Asia, the effects of the Vietnam war on the region and culture.

Highly engaging stories that cover a wide range of topics and locations around the globe. Thought-provoking but not at all preachy, each episode paints a detailed portrait of one or two individuals involved in some kind of international encounter — whether it be with people, places, or literature of another country. By the end, you feel like you’ve been introduced to a new friend. Nothing predictable or formulaic about any of the episodes I’ve listened to so far, except that they’ve all made for good listening. I love the international perspective of Rough Translation! I always learn something new about what life is like in other countries and this is some top-notch storytelling. The focus of the episodes tends to be pretty diverse, which I really appreciate. Keep up the awesome work!

One of my favorites, BUT...
Sometimes it can feel like just another episode of This American Life. I’ve been listening since the beginning, and what really got me excited for the stories about language. Stories where language shape the new wants and the meeting and the plot. We don’t want just another socioeconomic focused podcast about wars and politics… Let’s make it about language, translation, culture, verbiage, flavor, place. Languages that are almost extinct and the people who speak them and where. Languages that are the only ones that use that alphabet, and how it affects citizens of that native tongue when they travel. I’d love to see an episode set in the Republic of Georgia, or Vietnam.

A way out of my echo chamber.
Rough translation, is by far, my favorite podcast. The stories, ideas and perspectives presented are illuminating and deeply allegorical. The stories inspire a combination of empathy, insight and, at least for me, a humble reminder that the world is vast and that the best way to learn about oneself is to listen to others. The podcast is incredibly good at uplifting stories and experiences in very complex and nuanced ways without offering apologies or forced bridges. I am particularly grateful for this in a time where thought and discourse is often trapped in echo chambers. Thank you so much for such wonderful stories!

Rough Translation - Understood!
These stories are those of places and experiences I’ve never had, and probably never will. While I can’t understand the full context of each of these stories from a podcast shorter than an hour, each turn and twist, each heartfelt moment or moment of loss, each insight touches me. I feel enlightened about the global community I live in. My favorite podcast - thank you RT!

I love this podcast, it always challenges my patterns of thoughts and teaches me as much about myself as it does about other people. That being said, I don’t subscribe to ted radio hour because I don’t like it, I don’t understand why ted radio hour episodes are regularly being uploaded on this channel. Evocative Evolutions
This podcast is all about the evolution of an individual and how their journey changes as they change. It highlights inspiring and aspirational individuals who stopped and made a change. The thing about these stories that it focuses on the actions of the individual and tells the stories through the words those closest to them. Definitely a must listen for anyone taking the road less traveled.

This podcast looks at analogues to a trend or current events topic that is present in the U.S., but from the perspective of people in a different country. Some are amazing
...some aren’t. I listened to an interesting examination of the man who sedated Eichmann and then how Tolstoy helped a man survive isolation in Ethiopia. I followed it up with the most self indulgent confrontation of a daughter/guest journalist cry at her mother’s alcoholism. Compared with the previous stories this was so narcissistic a platform. Did something happen?
I’ve been an avid fan of Rough Translation since the first season with the journalistic and compelling story telling of the podcast. There’s nothing quite like this podcast out there. I would listen to the episodes in the day and just be transported to another place in time. However, I find the new season slightly odd. A lot of the new episodes I believe are Tedx made? And the speakers seem to be talking to an audience and the NPR host of the show? Of course the content is still amazing, but the new style of story telling just lacked luster to me. I’ll still listen to Rough Translation because it truly is one of my favorite podcasts. But if I wanted to half listen to a Ted Talk I would just go there.

Sincere Storytelling with Objective Truths
This is a great podcast that gives more context to news that we may hear. In my life I hear news of bombings or human right violations in other countries that they seem so distant and foreign. All of which leads to impersonal and indifference of these happenings. Yet these podcast allow me to see that very real lives that are being impacted and allowing me to become more receptive to global perspectives. It’s amazing how this podcast truly connects others by finding commonality even in different countries and cultures. Great job to everyone working on this podcast. Truly great work!!

Helping to understand that our conversations are not unique
I think one of the best things information/story sharing can do is humble oneself, expand and contextualize the world, and in the humanities, create a sense of community. This podcast is a head trip in the absolute best way possible. Thought provoking and well done
I really enjoy this podcast. I listen to a lot of podcasts and NPR programming. In a lot of ways, this is similar to This American Life, but in a lot of ways it is not similar. One thing I really appreciate about how they do the show is, they don’t try to over dramatize the episodes. They talk about these topics very matter of fact. At the end of the episode, they don’t try to come up with some grand epiphany and try to tell you “this is how it is or should be”. It just tells a story and ends. It leaves me always wanting to know more, in a good way. I was worried it would come from a place of, “this is how other parts of the world are doing it better than America” or the opposite, “this is how messed up the rest of the world is.” Instead, the stories just seem down to earth. Worth a listen to, especially if you are interesting in learning about what is happening around the world.

Awesome podcast
One of my favorites to listen to on my commute. It’s a fascinating way to learn about how other cultures address similar issues. Please bring it back!

So interesting!
I just discovered this pod cast and I love it. I Enjoyed hearing about other cultures and perspectives and how there is more than one way to look at an issue. My only regret is that I listen to all the episodes - I have to wait for more!

I thought this was about Pakistan, but it has so many similarities to living in rural, religious USA
After listening to this and crying at times it finally dawned on me that so much of what they were saying applied to me as well living in rural Minnesota. They want you to be quiet, they want you to be compliant, they want you to not make waves, they want you to just be what THEY want you to be. It’s frightening to think that I’ve been living in a place that has tried to control me my whole life. Only rarely do I let my true self come out. And then I feel the whack of isolation and loneliness because I dared to question the status quo. There was a quote in the podcast about not caring anymore about what people think of you. I’ve been trying to achieve that for 25 years. It took a lot of courage for her to speak out and and set herself free. If she can do it in a repressive society in Pakistan I can surely find the courage to do it here in a free society in the United States. You never know when something you listen to might change your life. I’m hoping this helps to change mine. Thanks for bringing the story to me and all the other people who feel the same.

Thoughtful. Important. Meaningful.
So much more than information sharing going on here. There is a passion for storytelling that really comes through in this podcast which allows the listener to feel connected and changed, like they have been brought into the lives and experiences of the people being interviewed.

Surprising gems
I love this podcast. The first story I heard was about the quest for the last living POW to receive an apology from the Japanese car company that used he and other American POWs as cheap/slave labor. The whole story was fascinating and left me tearful. I am now a huge fan and have devoured all episodes. You will not be disappointed.

Unforgettable and HUMAN
This is the podcast that got me hooked on podcasts, and so changed my life. Not many things can make me cry on a bright day while walking my dog, or make me look forward to doing a sink full of chunky dishes, just because I know I'm going to be utterly moved and my perspective of the world altered by this wonderful podcast that has obviously had so much effort poured into it, just to bring stories and knowledge free of charge to anyone lucky enough to find it. If you're going to try out a new podcast, it HAS to be this one.

What Unites Us All
This collection of narratives from across the world is a beautifully moving display of the humanity that unites us all. I have listened to every single episode, and have been so captivated by the stories, each one thoughtful and provocative, that I have found myself in tears listening or rewinding to ensure I have heard each and every word, more than once. "War Poems," "American Surrogate," "Intruders" and "Anna in Somalia" are personal favorites. Hands down my most favorite podcast out there. Can't wait to see what the next installation brings.

- White Lies: The Men on the RoofIt all started with a photograph. A photograph from 1991 of a prison takeover in rural Alabama. A photograph of a group of men on the roof of that prison holding a bedsheet scrawled with a message: "Pray for us." In the first episode of the new season of White Lies, hosts Chip Brantley and Andrew Beck Grace go searching for answers to the questions raised by this photograph. Who were these men? What on earth had made them want to take over that prison? And what became of them after? As they search, they uncover a sprawling story: a mass exodus across the sea, a secret list, and the betrayal at the heart of this country's ideals.
