Love this podcast, but it is so difficult to play the episodes. Freezing, errors, etc. every week. No other podcasts give me this issue in Apple Podcasts. It’s hard to justify paying for this when I can’t listen. What gives?

Content great, structure & ad timing, bad
The content is presented in a dramatic form that keeps listeners attention, but doesn’t go over the top. The views are from informed experts with different perspectives who help listeners learn the complexities of todays issues and the parts played By these famous dictator BAD —2 problems—[1] the ads are jarringly loud & injected at the worst times in the podcast. Lower the volume PLEASE, and [2]~~ stop claiming there are new episodes when they ONLY apply to subscribers. ——** I pay for NONE of the 15 great podcasts I listen to. ***They make money with ad revenue. They don’t also charge their listeners! The exception I’d make to subscribe would be if I then heard zero ads. You have to choose- build a big enough audience and make money off advertising OR charge subscribers a fee AND DROP ALL ADS. No one wants to sign up to pay fees, only to STILL have ads interrupt them.

Sublime
This is an expertly done, highly informative and interesting podcast series. I’ve learned so much about the likes of Stalin, Mao, and many other sociopaths and psychopaths who embodied pure evil. The narrator and the writing are first rate. Podcast choices just keep getting better!

This is my new favorite podcast. Stories are entertaining, but they don’t hold back on the brutality of their subjects. It’s very informative, but that doesn’t inhibit listeners’ interest in the podcast. My highest commendations for a remarkable podcast.

Could be Great!
I thoroughly enjoy Noiser and the narrator of these podcast. However the editing often has errors or skips ahead leaving out important information. Such as the Apollo 13 episode. It clearly cuts off in mid word and skips the most important part of the story, the safe return of the craft. Although we all know the craft returned safely, it should have been included.

Thank You, Noiser
I can not get enough of this podcast. I found this podcast around the time they began the Idi Amin story, and had listened to every episode by the time they finished that series. I simply love this show. Every time I listen to the latest episode I find myself a little sad and impatient, knowing that I’ll have to wait 6 more days for the next one haha. I’ve learned quell that impatience, however, with other history podcasts, like History Daily and A Short History Of, the other Noiser podcasts. (I’ve also listened to every episode of A Short History Of haha) This show has rekindled my love for history and I simply cannot get enough. Highly recommend.

Excellent podcast, but a few mistakes
This is an excellent history podcast with great production value. However, there are occasional mistakes in editing where the podcast skips forward or backwards as if someone fell asleep in the editing room and their face hit the controls. This is most apparent in episode 55, where it happens multiple times… But it happens in other episodes as well.

Quality production
Top notch production. Non political. I’ve seen one or two saying it’s biased left. I’m a conservative and that’s not at all true. Maybe it is a listening comprehension type thing - who knows? Anyway, well read with great sound effects and moody music. Fantastic addition to your podcast library. I wish Netflix or one of the many production studios of today would make a series about the rise and fall of Hitler. There is so much real information available so the show could be so authentic and the characters are so rich without even adding creative twists. Fantastic.

High Quality Production
I have a love <> hate relationship with this show (and Noiser’s other shows). Love them because they are high quality, entertaining, educational, interesting and can’t wait everyday for the next episode. Hate them because they’ve pretty much ruined the ability to listen to non-Noiser podcasts because of the quality standard they’ve set for their podcasts and they just can’t be matched. The production, sound effects, recording, and story telling is just beyond anything else out there.

Such a shame
This podcast comes off as well researched and very grounded. Till you start doing your own research and realize just how biased the presentation really is. Which is really too bad because a truly unbiased look at dictators would be a great teaching tool. I’m honestly very disappointed, but the hate they seem to bear towards the right is painfully obvious while they gloss over horrific atrocities by leftist or communist dictators.

Fidel Castro… not in the dictator list?
I am surprised not to see Castro in the dictator list. Mr. Francois Duvalier was on your list. He was in power for only 14 years. Fidel Castro was Cuba’s dictator for more than 60 years, however it seems he does not qualify. He took the world to the brink of a nuclear war and was most likely behind JFK murder…. Please, I think Mr. Castro’s 60 years in power makes him a good candidate for a Dictator’s Hall of Fame Award!!

Loved this until the Qaddafi episodes
I loved this podcast until the Qaddafi episodes. The gross anti-Americanism is laughable. To blame Americans, particularly President Reagan for Qaddafi’s lunacy including the Lockerbie bombing is insane. To blame Libyan radicalism on Back to the Future or Top Gun is ridiculous and victim blaming.

Obnoxiously Biased
This podcast has great production values, but it’s relentlessly biased toward the left and anti-American. When a right wing dictator justifies atrocities as retaliation for the left’s atrocities, the writers are dismissive, even when forced to admit under their breath that the accusation against the left is true. See the Franco episodes. When a dictator justifies atrocities as anti-American, the writers are hugely sympathetic and mock the US and its presidents. See the Gaddafi episodes. In this age of polarization and incivility, we should be making an effort to get along, not antagonize each other like this.

Not a huge fan of war history but this show is the bees knees
I feel like most historical documentaries about dictators either glorifies the brutalities in some way (“He was so terrible he killed 15 kittens”) or is just a study of their strategy. Never before have I learned about their families, hobbies, mothers, real life fears or anything that even remotely humanizes them in some way. Because they’re discussed in such an abstract way, the topic never interested me much. Learning the intimate and normalcy of their everyday lives, before they were dictators has been wildly fascinating. I’ve never even thought about Hitler having a mom before. Kim Jong-Il loved watching movies!?!? As a bonus, I’ve also been learning a lot about culture, war and world politics that I’ve never picked up anywhere else.

Love the show. Logar123, clearly you have learned nothing from listening to the show. Stop lying to yourself. The Nazis and Hitler were on the ideological “Far-Right”. If that truth makes you feel uncomfortable because you consider yourself pretty far to the right, perhaps you should take a moment and seriously consider your beliefs. Let’s face the facts, dictators can emerge in emerge and rule from all ends of the ideological spectrum.

More propaganda
You will hear words like "Anti-semitism" "bigot" and "racist" over and over again using the same language as the radical left. Its interesting in its presentation but I am 100% certain that this is misleading and just un true and mostly opinion or influenced by caananite Jews to paint a specific picture.

Anti-American POV ruins good info
At first subtle, the anti-Americanism became undeniable when they equated the admitted accidental shooting down of a passenger plane believed to be an enemy attack plane with the purposeful targeting of a passenger plane. The show admits one was an accident and other was intentional and rightfully says both were tragedies but the condemns media for not treating them the same. This is the equivalent of saying someone who accidentally causes a fatal wreck should be treated the same as Ted Bundy. This is not the only instance of bias, it just madr the more subtler aspects undeniable.

This fascinating podcast delves into the real stories of history’s dictators and helps you fully understand how they rose to power and how they corrupted their countries. It is extremely well produced, has a great musical intro and Paul McGann, a very talented actor, is also a fantastic narrator. I could listen to him read for hours on end but this podcast includes many segments by historians and scholars that explain particular points all contributing to telling the full story of these thugs. I am normally not very excited about having to make a 90 minute commute regularly but once I discovered this podcast, I now look forward to it and it has been a real joy listening to it.

A must listen!
If you’re a history junkie, or a political junkie, you’ll love the 7 part podcast about Hitler. It’s unbelievable. Hitler capitalized on his countrymen’s feelings of oppression and economic depression to galvanize people to hate entire groups. How he did it is mesmerizing, but also thought-provoking. This is a must listen!

Paul does an amazing job of giving the historical facts and that’s it. No opinion objected into it. He just gives us information on what the historical figure life was like and what atrocities they have done. Easy listening and has helps me understand more about the figure head to the biggest atrocious life events in history

Fascinating
These stories are so well presented. Whether it’s a dictator I’d studied previously or one I don’t know, I find the episode incredibly interesting. This is the perfect bedtime podcast which may sound like an insult but is really a high compliment (I feel the same way about David Attenborough documentaries), the info is engaging enough to distract me from the worries that keep me from sleep and the voice is so soothing that I just drift off after 20-30 mins. I hope this speaker comes out with more podcasts!

In Depth with Brilliant Writing
As a self-professed history buff I am harder to impress. But Paul and the team go to a depth that other podcasts and media outlets don’t. Instead of abridged versions that try to cover an entire story in one hour, the team intricately outlines the subject as well as important events. I’m a huge fan.

Best dictator podcast out there.
I’ve listened to other podcasts about dictators and this is the best by far. They feature actual people or relatives of people from that time in history. They also access original documents and interviews which means they have tons more details and first hand accounts of events. This makes it a very rich and addictive podcast for anyone interested in history. Compelling, immersive listening experience.

While what they say about Hitler in this podcast may be truthful. The reason they are presenting it at this point in time is for a very specific reason. They are trying to draw links between Hitler and Trump without mentioning the latter directly. The same things they are saying Hitler said and did in this podcast, or what they accuse trump of doing now.

I like it mostly but biased
Y’all had me until the third episode of the Hitler saga. Is the irony lost on the creators when they proclaim National Socialists as “Far Right”? No person on that side of the spectrum would appreciate Hitler’s domestic policies. The only thing they have in common is the obsession over a white identity. The not-so-subtle attempt to link modern nationalist movements with Nazis is disingenuous at best, but probably intentional which is pretty gross.

How can you call Hitler”far right”, he was a socialist!
Hitler was all about government control of every aspect of life, business, and more importantly politics, people on the right want less government and those on the far right want no government control of private life. You’re doing everything to project leftist behaviors on the right. Historically, I like your podcast but your ignorance or strategic use of words is to redefine Hitlers political platform is disgusting.

In a world where we’ve all forgotten what real authoritarian dictators do, hopefully this informative and entertaining podcast can teach a few people about how bad it can really get. You wanna starve to death in the frozen Siberian tundra? Be mowed down by machine guns or gassed with your family and friends? Bombed in an experimental weapon test? Good podcast
It’s a good podcast, although the ads man, ur killing me smalls. Also, to all the people saying trump, or any American president, should be on here clearly haven’t listened to this pod and don’t know what a dictator is. 1) dictators always silence free speech, usually by killing or, if ur lucky, imprisoning those offending 2) they kill lots of people, so even if you are a conspiracy theorist who thinks that trump has people killed, he doesn’t kill in the numbers that a dictator would 3) dictators have absolute power. That’s ones self explanatory idiots, US presidents don’t have unregulated power. That’s America 101. How do u not know that? I could keep going, but I’ve ranted long enough If u read this far, congrats and thank you, although u probably agree with me, so I achieved nothing. But thanks anyway.

I like to listen to history and I think they did a great job. I think this could have been a tv show. There can't be too many dictators out there so I hope they cover more people. Maybe a WW2 series about Churchill or great persons of history.

Hard to write a good review looking at these Creeeps
I would have given these podcast a 5 star review in it had Comrade Cuomo, Comrade Deblaisio from NY, Comrade Murphy from Nj and Supreme Leader Biden flanked by Premier Harris if you reall wanted to strike some real fear into the searchers. I remember when podcasting from a new and untapped media resource. A Platform that you knew in your heart with enough determination you just might have a successful show then the comedians took over the platform like we didnt have enough of them for free on Youtube and now they all have special on Netflix , 35 of them i have never heard of and I'm the guru. We thank shows like this that have commericalized even Podcasts. did you go take a real photo of these 3 , who's making your thumbnails Davinci. nothing like opening the podcast page that takes 3 years on a hp laptop to finally realize the history channel even has a podcast , is it even worth having one now that everyone thinks they should do it. I can tell you this the narrator wasn't sleeping with any of these 3 so I can promise you have heard these warstories and atrocities before. Trust me your not going to play the first episode and to your suprise it says Adoplh Hitler was avid synchronized swimmer and loved training exotic birds. 1,564 ppl reviewed this. If I make a Podcast as just rival the good people to their bad will it be as succeessful , granted the history channel does their audio engineering so i'll just steal all the sound clips, look for Real Leaders coming this summer , I'm thinking Churchhill, Ike , and whos equl to that fat loder in North Korea present time? If a wait a year aI could use Comrade Harris. first women black vp only a splinter away from president. Great music in this sucker that will be hard to do, where are they getting all this info on Kimjong ill , come on when he was young if he didnt have cool-aid with dinner he would purposely make a scene then wet himself , you gotta love it, its put together like a masterpiece I just like having fun. If you were born 4 years ago its a great learning experience

Political Ads
I was loving this series until the fear mongering, garbage political ads played. Unfortunately I’ll be unsubscribing since this type of politics is supported by the network. Shame.

You Love Educational History?
This podcast is amazing and very well done and researched. Great flow, good narration... that’s important for me, that the wisdom is effortless and makes it easy for the listener to understand. I personally love learning about both the bad and the good throughout history, and this podcast makes it fun and leaves you wanting more. Good thing there’s a bunch of them already... and more coming I’m guessing. It’s too good not to continue. Thank you fur such a great educational tool that is fun, I learn for fun and history is my favorite subject... that and physics! Everyone should leave this man a review, if you enjoy it... it will ensure we can keep it going and give our friend some kudos. P.S. Author : Have you ever thought about doing not just dictators, but capitalist supposedly governing another country that act like dictators. I think there are plenty of free country’s today with bad leaders .

Great pacing, voice and factual details
We were struggling to find a good podcast for our road trip but then randomly had this pop up. We had just spent a few minutes listening to a horrible one — and immediately this podcast set itself apart with its wonderful music, voice and anticipatory narration. The factual details of these tyrants are remarkable — they were seriously crazy and evil — so time just flew by!! Highly recommend!

Just Perfect
What a perfectly weighted, intelligent and well delievered podcast. Paul McGann is a superb choice as narrator. I'm looking forward to a "Real Serial Killers" rather than the trash "experts" we usually get on such sensationalist fodder. Best podcast of 2020 by far!! (p.s. the DJ Khalid ads ... that dude is seriously grating. Time to get rid).

I really enjoy these bite-sized snapshots into the background of these dictators. Often we only hear about what they did after they rose to power so to get how their background influenced their rise was also illuminating.

One of the best history pods
This podcast has the best production value of any history podcast out there. It reminds me of the history channel circa 90s or early 2000s before they ditched the history for aliens, pawn shops and truckers. Great intercuts with actual experts and fantastic narration. Highly recommend.

great but...
Truly an interesting podcast, I love listening... but the DJ Khaled podcasts ads are unbearably cringey and I cannot skip through them fast enough. It is a mystery to me why Khaled chose this podcast to pay for promotion, but God do I wish you (producers) would’ve declined. Would be 5 stars if I didn’t hear DJ Khaled on every episode.

Engaging, but...
Well produced, very engaging and informative. I’ll continue to subscribe. However, what comments there are on ideology are decidedly one-sided and are without any nuance, nearly to the point of propaganda. Further, there are important facts regarding causation of conflicts or the endings of them that leave out some incredibly important context. The US involve the in the Korean War and the events leading up to the American Nuclear bombs leave much to be discussed.

Well Delivered - Annoying Ads
The podcast is great! I cannot stop listening! Informative entertaining and well made. The ads, super annoying. DJ Khalid and Country ads? What kind of demographic do you think listens to your podcast? I understand ads are necessary to keep podcasts going. At least make the ads relevant to your listeners. Other than that, amazing podcast!

I enjoyed this podcast more than originally anticipated. I checked out the Stalin episodes on a whim and am quite glad that I did. I’ve since binged all episodes and eagerly await the next release. Some technical issues...
It’s engaging and informative... However, I strongly dislike the intro music — it is far too loud in comparison to the rest of the audio. It is comes across as comic. The ads are horribly placed — I am jolted out of the experience and then forced to skip right through them. From a content perspective - very informative but I do wish there were four rather than three episodes per dictator since things are quickly glossed over. I don’t think Mao’s early personality and rise were given the proper attention. In the 3rd episode of Mao, the recording skips over key information at two different points and there is a glaring lack as a result... I’ve started the Papa Doc episodes. I’m on episode 1 and I’m very upset. I’m 12 minutes in and hearing about an attempted kidnapping on his children — I know nothing off his background...

Well told, engaging
I really enjoy this show. It feels like an actual show. A lot of the other history type podcast to which I’ve listened are very monotone or it’s two people just chatting to one another. I have subscribed and unsubscribed to so many history podcasts because of that. This feels more like an audio documentary and I really enjoy it. All of the stories, so far, flow together really well. The stories don’t feel disjointed from one part to the next even though they are spit into different episodes. The music is never overwhelmingly loud or placed in weird spots. The narrator’s voice is level without being annoyingly monotone. I honestly can’t say enough about this show. It’s one of my favorites.

Outstanding
As a kid, my history education would begin every year with the founding of my state, and we’d make it as far as the Civil War or Reconstruction by the end of the school year. Next year, we’d start all over again. I got absolutely no education in late 19th century or 20th century history, nothing about either WW, Vietnam etc. I am trying to fill in the gaps to have a better understanding of what makes “now”. This is a brilliant podcast, easily digestible, insightful, yet fascinating and horrifying at the same time. I do agree with another reviewer. I would appreciate an episode or time given to historians from within the countries, particularly Russia. I now have an in-law who, though his family fled to Europe when he was a toddler, will hear nothing bad said about Russia. I’d like some insight into why his family remains so loyal, even though they felt they had to leave. Having been given such a brilliant open door to propaganda and how it affects the masses, I hope I have an open enough mind to be curious how it’s been practiced on my generation of Americans that we all have an automatic, knee jerk reaction about big bad mean threatening Russia. On a one on one basis, people are people and are generally good, regardless of how subtly we’ve been manipulated. Or not manipulated. Does that make sense? That’s what I’d like to know.

Too Far!
We all know what happened in Germany when the Right went too far but most Americans have no idea what happened in the 20th century with the Far Left went too far. Collectivism in the name of equality and equity and a hatred of Capitalism that led to death on a scale that would make Hitler blush. But the Leftist media and scholars still sympathize with socialist and communist. Maybe one day we can treat Americans that promote communism with the same derision we treat neo Nazis.

Stalin Episodes are AMAZING!
I wasn’t super sold on this but as I listened it became very good! To hear the Stalin history and how he wanted commune style communities and if you didn’t fall into place you were put to death is crazy. He had lists of people who were to be put to death because they didn’t agree with his party. The executions and iron fist of rule is so scary. Freedoms under the men were nonexistent. Great series!

Biographies on Fire
I listen to many podcasts but this one stands way above anything else. Excellent pace, tension and insight. Production is superb, on a par with if not better than the BBC who are very hard to match. Hope they continue with the series as there are so many despots out there right now yet we never really get this kind of insight. A study of African despots would be great. Remember the line that Stalin is dead but Stalinism is very much alive and thriving. Brilliant. Must listen.
