The most exciting thing to happen on this show they put behind a paywall.
This is probably the least exciting video game podcast you’ll ever listen to, and the one time they actually have something exciting that they are going to promote. They put it behind paywall. While yes it is something as stupid as the chip challenge to hype up your audience, who is listening and then to put it behind a pay wall is bad.

Great podcast but flawed
Writing this for constructive criticism. TOO MUFH POLITICS. We get it. You’re west coast/Canadian leftists. We don’t listen to video game podcasts for political talk. Stick to games and not alienating chunks of your audience.

Scared of own shadows
15 mis talking about a cold. Move on. They just compared a rapist and a pedo to a self made author who has an opinion they don’t agree with. An author who was in a abusive relationship and overcame so much. I doubt they even know what her opinion actually is as they probably just let the internet tell them it is not allowed. Trust the science except when it doesn’t support the one allowed opinion. So much for free speech I guess. Worse than Gaming Steve in the end….

A good podcast gone tedious and stale
Two of the three hosts are engaging, informative and entertaining. The other is so stuck in repeating over and over and over and over the same tired schtick and annoying interruptions and repetitive attempts at humor that it drags everything down. Come on guys, it’s been years. Let’s get the child to grow up. It’s become a tiresome chore to listen.

Biased
I can’t remember if I’ve done a review or not but I’ve been listening to P1P for over four years. I love listening to these guys recount their lives working in the industry during a time when I was young and impressionable. They stay true to their character about current day events and aren’t impressed by random twitter junk that would spark three videos by any other YouTube channel. If you like reminiscing about the history of games but still catch the big news of the week subscribe and enjoy.

Timeless Video Game Podcast
Player One Podcast was one of the first gaming podcasts I listened too. It must have been 2006/2007. I still listen to this day. I knew Phil first from his reviews on GameFly. The whole crew has a video game journalist pedigree. They met at EGM. Needless to say Phil is hilarious… CJ a great host that keeps things on point with a laugh always incoming.. and stewy calls all the BS with great wit. They have great chemistry. I love listening to latest video news and game impressions from their perspectives.

Old (school) game journos talk games
A fun podcast where former game journalists talk about their favorite new and old games. Always happy to hear about the latest good games from Greg and Phil (CJ’s love of sea of thieves makes his taste questionable) the banter is always a lot of fun but you might need to go back and to pick up some of the longer running jokes. the after show is also a great listen.

Player One Podcast: The GamePro review
Graphics: 🥳 Hosts Chris Johnston, Greg Sewart, and Phil Theobald are all EGM alums and have been in the industry since the 90’s. They’ve aged well and still hold up in 2020. Not your average Doom clone. Sounds: 🤩 This podcast is largely audio-based and delivers weekly news, impressions and loads of laughs every week. Think You don’t know Jack meets Streets of Rage. Control: 🤯 ??? Fun for the whole family! Fun-Factor: 🤗 The crew has great rapport with each other, listeners are rewarded with inside jokes and offer bonus episodes for Patreon subscribers with classic gaming quizzes and other fun games. All-in-all a fun podcast, and must play.

I love these guys!
I grew up reading EGM so I was thrilled when I found a way to keep these guys talking about games in my life, but now as a dad I find CJ, Greg and Phil to be the absolute best way for me to get my gaming “news” as my time and interest has waned. After listening for so long I keep tuning in for the guys themselves and their dynamic, the games are just a nice bonus :)

They’ve been around for years for a reason.
And that reason is to outlast all others! But seriously, one of the best podcasts about gaming out there. Their take on games and gaming news always tends to be less cynical than other outlets. They will make you feel at home every episode and they’re end of the year episodes are always my favorites. I’ve listened for so long I don’t even know how I found them but I am sure glad I did.

The three hosts know what they’re talking about! They’ve been in the industry for a long time and I’m constantly learning new things and gaining new perspective from listening to this podcast. They always have something unique to offer compared to other podcasts considering they’re not currently video game journalists professionally, but formerly were. Listen up friends, if your looking for a top notch podcast about video games (sometimes) look no further than the Player One Podcast. The hosts are old timers like myself and have been around the block a few times. They have a wealth of experience and have a great relationship with each other. They worked together at one of the quintessential video game magazines and have remained friends ever since. THE Greatest Podcast on video games. Hands Down! Is guaranteed that even if you are not some avid in video but you are looking to expend a hilarious time play this guys. Former veteran staff of one of the best magazines of video games Electronic Gaming Monthly (before internet stole the print publication terrain) If you are a parent they have plenty of grateful anecdotes that you may sympathize with many laughs. My Favorite Podcast for Almost a Decade
I began listening to the Player One Podcast around the one-hundredth episode. In other words, I've stuck with this trio for over 600 episodes. That's nearly a whole decade, along with two console generations. And I'm still excited when a new P1P enters my feed. The trio of hosts have such natural chemistry, permeating through both serious and lighthearted discussions, making it impossible not to feel seduced into listening to the whole episode. This has been my favorite podcast for years, and I don't forsee that changing, even if CJ will never pronounce my username correctly.

This podcast is a major quality of life upgrade
I am an illustrator who draws using Photoshop, and I listen to podcasts probably 25-30 hours a week. But Tuesday mornings are my favorite time to work, because it means I can draw while listening to the hilarious and insightful banter of CJ, Greg, Phil, (and if you go back a hundred or so episodes) even Ethan. There are a lot of video game podcasts out there, but Player One has been my favorite because of the personalities of the hosts, and the dynamics of their friendship. I've been listening for years, and I hope they continue for years to come. Did somebody say snipper clips?

The family you can’t get rid of!
This is where you want to get your level gaming news coverage from. Like family around a dinner table, these guys have been together so long and are so stuck in their ways they cant do anything but give honest opinions on every topic. Chris tried to hold the conversation together while Phil wanders aimlessly and Greg complains about how much everything costs in the land of maple syrup and plugging his twitch streams for Extra Life charity. Over 10 years of gaming podcasts discussions makes for hilarious and easy listening news coverage, an easy recommendation for anyone wanting to sit and listen to people discussing the news and what they’ve been playing vs. other podcasts that read spec sheets and offer little true opinions on current topics. I find more gems to play listening to this podcast constantly than I do any of the more “modern” podcasts that unfortunately just report the current news but offer little history and reflection; unlike these guys.

Hey gang, first time long time! I maybe a tad to young to remember EGM. But, the crew holds a firm grasp on how the industry ticks while remaining fun and down to earth. I’ve been able to stop by the live shows every now and again and the gang really gives off a chill and laid back aura that gives a sense that you’re apart of the conversation. Side note: Chris Johnson is one of the most laid back individuals around and a great Pirate to boot! FIVE STARS!!!

You are going to listen to this podcast because of CJ, Phil and Greg, or you will not like this Podcast because of CJ Phil or Greg. This is not some over produced generic podcast just talking about the same video game news you have already heard about. Instead its just three friends hanging out talking games (occasionally). Midlife Toy Collecting Nintendo Fanboys
A Nintendo fanboy podcast where at least two of these midlife podcasters have amassed more toys than a classroom full of preschoolers. One even has a side podcast specifically dedicated to toys. And if his insights into action figures, Pokémon cards and other “collectibles” aren’t enough, he will at least throw in a few political jokes in every episode. I’ve found this political commentary is best delivered while he’s playing with an Amiibo or building a Lego set. When they do wonder into a “discussion” about a game on the PlayStation or Xbox, they’ll often conclude that the game in question would be “perfect for the Switch.” For example, you might hear commentary like “God of War is a great game, but wouldn’t it be perfect for the Switch.”

Longest running podcast I've listened to
...yikes I cannot believe it's been eleven years! This is easily my favorite gaming podcast, it's endured quite a lot. A few character changes over the years but the core has been steady. If you are in your 40s, grew up with Nintendo/Sega and still get a kick out of the hobby then this will be very easy to relate to. The show can ebb and flow like anything else, but the chemistry of the group is palpable and when they are funny it can be difficult to stop listening! Recommended.

I would listen if they were my children
I wanted to take a chance on another Gaming podcast, and after a few minutes of the latest episode I was struck with a realization. A great deal of the available gaming podcasts share the exact same format: Goof around for ten to twenty minutes, talk about the most recently played game, disseminate the weekly events, and share some opinions that may upset a portion of their listeners. To that end, these guys do a good job. It just leaves me wondering why I need a fourth group of gamers doing the same thing. IT's all about connection right? I could see enjoying this greatly if I was familiar with their other works, sadly I am not and thus didn't end up liking the podcast as much.

Faithfully Trudging Along But Without Much Energy
I used to really love this podcast, but ever since Mike left it has really gone downhill in quality. Outside of Ethan, the other hosts seem largely disconnected much of the time and rarely have much to bring to the table. As for Ethan himself, he is energetic but often without anything really though provoking to say and he can't carry the show on its own while the other hosts just sit around and say "hm yeah" all the time. I usually only listen now when I run out of other podcasts and even then I often don't have enough interest to see it through.

Was great. Theres a problem.
This was one of my core podcasts once. Balanced banter from all the hosts, an even mix of humor, retro and modern gaming news and opinions. However now that Ethan has joined the team, he flat out hogs air time, actually audibly boring the other hosts because he simply doesn't take a break speaking to let anyone talk. During his "what ive been playing" segments, he goes on and on while the other hosts say "yeah" and "uh huh" until he has nothing left to say and then when hes finished, simply move on because they know if they ask him a follow up question he'll start all over again. I dont mind Ethan as a personality, but guys, seriously, the way he hogs the show and doesnt pass the ball is choking a great show.

Need to change its name to Nintendocast and stop talking politics.
I used to enjoy this show but in the last year they have just become the Nintendo chat. The last 5-10 episodes have been nothing but Switch junk. Yes I realize it's a new console but there has been other news in the gaming industry. Plus I'm tired of the commentators sliding in their own personal political remarks into the show. In this era where EVERYTHING is politicized I turn to shows about video games to get away from all of that. If the talk was about politics affecting the gaming world I could understand but these are just them slipping their own personal politics into a show that's not about politics.

Good show ruined by off topic comments and inconsiderate trolling
Simply put I loved this show, until about spring 2016 when a few of the hosts Greg in particular decided they'd use a video game podcast to make political points. In an era where people are at each others throats figuratively and more increasingly literally Greg thinks it's good to start 9/10 shows off with a cheap political remark reminding all of us how dire the political seen of our day is. I listen to gaming podcasts to avoid politics and social commentary. Thanks For giving me anxiety when I turn on a gaming podcast to de compresss and instead have to hear your cheap parroted political memes. Ruined the show for me.

I discovered this podcast just before episode 500 and I've been hooked ever since. Humorous, knowledgeable and unbiased commentary on the games industry and video games. This is an excellent podcast that is essentially 3-4 mortal enemies coming together to make fun of one another and talk games. It is also one of the few to almost discuss games entirely for better or worse. Granted I like side stuff and I am always interested in the host non-gaming lives(note to hosts it helps the audience relate), but I think this podcast deserves a spot in everyone's, who enjoys the hobby, because of the more focused and on point discussions. Also, Make Ethan a permanent host if possible. He adds a lot to the conversation, rolls with the jokes, has an amicable personality, and overall brings points of views not already covered by Chris, Greg and Phil. Also, they can always hold an open spot for Mike. Good job guys keep it up.

Knowledgable with horrible social skills
Listen to the first ten minutes of 486, it speaks for itself. The rate in which ideas and news are conveyed is a crawls at best. None of the hosts have a very engaging personality and their monotonous talking is the final nail in the coffin. It is the decaf instant coffee of video game podcasts. None of the hosts are interesting in any way. You would be better off asking the fat 12 year old in the Best Buy video game section about games than listening to the bickering that is this cast. Know it alls who know not much. Just save yourself the frustration and wasted time and head over to IGN and gamespot.

Long Time Listener
I enjoy listening to this show. Here is a quick summary of the hosts. CJ: Nintendo and Apple fanboy Phil: Perfect combination of amusing and annoying Sewart: Level headed Canadian Mike: Absent most of the time but insightful. (Please come back) Guest hosts: Kevin and Rich bring additional perspectives to the show. Kevin definitely brings the energy levels up. Keep it up.

Amazing once you get to know the fellas
This is one of those podcasts where you actually have to listen to like 5 or 6 shows to really get a feel for how the hosts interact with each other. When you first listen to the shows, there are some inside jokes that you're not getting, and it makes the podcast seem kinda lame at first. But then you get to know the guys a bit, and it's like 3 or 4 good friends talking about games. Great show.

After 424 Episodes, I Can Say I Approve of This Programming
I've listened to every single episode of the Player One Podcast since it began in 2006. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 500-600 listening hours later, I can confirm that it is often as hilarious as it is insightful when it comes to gaming, both new and old. Indeed, Player One is a fine podcast put on by fine gentlemen. But that doesn't mean I can't plot to thwart it.

Gone down hill with the addition of "Mike".
Since mike has joined the show as a permanent co-host, the show has suffered considerably. He adds a negative, haughty tone that just doesn't fit with the rest of the crew. He curses frequently, dropping f-bombs every show he's on. I used to be able to play this podcast at work without worrying but can't anymore. Unfortunately I'm unsubscribing. It's getting harder and harder to find a decent video game podcast these days. It's his type of personality and language that's the reason why I found all the "other video game podcasts" unlistenable. And now his addition to the show has added the player one podcast to that list as well. I've tried to listen and "get used to it", but his cursing and negativity has gotten to be too much.

The perfect podcast for people who grew up playing videogames and now have the challenge of balancing kids, work, marriage and their favorite hobby. Their diverse tastes and mature take on the games of old and new is a refreshing viewpoint that you won't get anywhere else.

This is the greatest podcast in the history of podcasts! I started around episode 100, and the hosts have such good chemistry and banter that I actually ended up going back and listening to all the original episodes. Despite some of the changes in the hosts, the quality is still there. After so many years of listening to them, I tune in not so that I can get my video game news but just to see what's new in their lives, almost as if the hosts are my friends. I enjoy the fact that they don't take themselves seriously and do go off-topic. There is also a nice balance of opinion on the show. CJ is the Leonardo, the optimistic leader. Phil is Michealangojello, the comedian/party dude who does not take things seriously. Mike is obviously Raphael, always so grumpy. Sewart is obviously Donatello... just cuz I dunno who else Sewart would be. And friend of the show Rich Grisham is Master Splinter, the guy who gets the group under control every now and then and teaches them kung-fu and the true meaning of family. Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind.

Hey guys! I feel like I hear everyone ask to "Rate us on itunes" when listening to my weekly podcasts but I wanted to personally drop in and say that I love what you guys are doing and look forward to the new episode dropping each week. Entertaining camaraderie of the show’s cast.
The thing that initially drew me to this show when I first listened was the camaraderie of the show’s cast. They are evidently long time friends and create humorous situations naturally. They also have their own distinct personalities and are not afraid to state their differentiating opinion on a game even when it results in the rest of them questioning their sanity. Look forward to each new episode every week.

Great show
I like this show alot it's funny. The impressionist is horrible, the Mormon's negativity is energetic, the Canadian's need to surround himself with Americans and the host's complete lack of leadership and ability to control the others. Add all that into a bowel with a dash of game talk and a sprinkle of baby's howling in the background you get one entertaining show. All kidding aside love the show.

I can't get enough of Phil and CJ's humorous banter, Greg's stories about playing video games with his kids, and Mike's sarcastic comments (which adds another level of depth to the show). Note: as I also have older children who have spent hundreds of hours playing and designing levels for it, so I can totally relate to Mike's love for LBP. This and the CAGCast are the only video game podcasts I currently listen to. Keep it going!

A weapon of choice
The hype machine behind gaming podcasts often mirrors the precarious Icarus myth - fly too close to the sun, promise too much, and you're just as likely to tumble out of the sky as deliver on your potential. CJ, Phil, Greg and Mike have promised so much with the Player One Podcast that it's hard to see how they could succeed, how they couldn't burn up in the harsh heat of audience expectation - of the pressure to deliver an entertaining yet informative show each week for the last eight years. That heat already turned on Greg Ford, scourging him beyond all rhyme or reason. Playing the part of a better Daedalus, the remaining crew has given the Player One Podcast the wings to fly true - with just a few scorch marks to show for it.

Some of the funniest and best personalities on any podcast I listen to. I can tell why these guys have been doing this podcast for so long. My favorite game podcast
A great podcast by guys who have been in the industry for a while and are veteran gamers. My favorite podcast about games. I really like that they don't have any biases or shill their own product for company's they work for like some podcasts. And also that they are not 20 something year old idiots. They are strictly 30-40 year old assho**s here. I can relate to that. They drop a lot of old scroll references that I appreciate. And the humor is great as well as the repertoire they have working together for so long. I would give 5 stars if they didn't always get me excited about a game with early praise, like Mario Sticker Star, and I buy it, and then they proceed to to say how much of a disappointment it was in later episodes.

P1P in brief.
I have come to believe that P1P stands for not The Player One Podcast; but The Phil is #1 Podcast! Just listen and see (hear?) for yourself! Phil is outrageously hilarious! He has the the broadest taste in games too, everything from cult favorites like Mole Mania and Tokimeki Memorial: Taisen Puzzle-Dama to mainstream hits like The Great Giana Sisters and OROCHI Z Musō Orochi Zetto! I could go on about his wit and awe inspiring stature for nearly as long as Exalt Theobald could make puns about and relating to the titles of various Garfield graphic novels, so I will leave you with this kernel of wisdom: The Phil is #1 Podcast is easily the sixth or seventh best podcast about baby noises and comic book impressions this side of gaming age. Eh, what else are you gonna do anyway? It's not like there are any video game magazines left to read...

I just wanna say, you guys are awesome. I listen to your podcast while walking from place to place, and sometimes when you guys make jokes, I try so hard not to laugh in public because I look crazy. So my face looks like I ate a sour lemon tryin to hold it back. I gotta admit, half the games you guys talk about I have no idea what they are, but that's the awesome part is you teach me about them. I do get jealous how you guys have the money to buy all these games. Anyways, keep up the good work! And I donated a few times in the past, and definitely will again soon.

Simply the best but can be improved somehow.
This podcast is really great. I like the hosts: Phil and the other guys. I really like the baby sounds as well because it makes me feel like I'm forgetting something in my life. If I'm exercising or on the toilet and hear a baby I get really worried and wonder if a baby is on a curb or in the bathtub playing with a tugboat. I think it would be better if they talked more about Minecraft.

In Case You Forgot....You're Listening a Great Podcast
I look forward to the PoP every week. One of the best parts about the show is that it's consistent. While other podcasts might take the occasional unexplained hiatus, the hosts of the PoP begrudgingly sit down in front of their computers each week to put out a show, even if it has to be about Skyward Sword. But seriously, after listening to a few episodes I was hooked and each host has such a unique personality and perspective on the gaming industry that it's like listening to four podcasts in one! Also Phil's Bane voice is spectacular.

Player One Podcast is one of the best video game podcasts out there. CJ, Phil, Greg, & Mike know how to make me laugh and know their games. They keep up with today's hits, and yet still have an incredible respect for the past. I would've given them 5 stars, but they get docked a half a star for Mike dissing Barenaked Ladies and another half a star for Greg calling Doctor Who "bad sci-fi".

I'm subscribed to about 20 podcasts and this is the one I listen to as soon as it updates, even when they make questionable decisions to the storyline like killing off beloved character Greg Ford. My second favorite video game podcast
A fun and funny podcast that offers a unique perspective on the video game industry, thanks to being made of of somewhat insiders without being part of the usual group of journalists centered around 1up, Kotaku, Joystiq and the like. Each member has his own distinct view, and indeed the podcast is often at its best when they disagree. I hate to play favorites*, but I especially appreciate Phil's brand of goofy humor and bad impressions, and besides I have to give credit to a fellow They Might Be Giants fan. That said, I have one caveat - I hate hate hate the outro. It's incredibly awkward and a waste of time. If you really feel it's necessary, just pre-record one and place it at the very end of each podcast - the biggest problem is that I can't skip the outro because I'll miss actual content that goes on in and after it. I have a feeling Mike is with me on this, so use this review as ammunition if you must. The outro is terrible. *this is a lie but a good lead-in

Finally, A Podcast For Me!
Being a Jeff Goldblum aficionado, SEGA Saturn apologist, former teenage games journo (as well as an ex-Mormon), I never thought I would find a podcast that speaks to my particular blend of personal interests and life experience. And then, I discovered the Player One Podcast. Now I gain comfort and reassurance week after week that I am not alone in this crazy madcap world. Thanks, guys, for reminding me that I am not the only one who finds imitations of Bane imitating Milo discussing the finer points of Pokemon (in song) to be an endlessly amusing endeavor. At last, the tiny part of the universe occupied by myself and a host of other aging video game fans has been filled.

Phil is awesome
I discovered this podcast recently and i love it! I went back and listened to all the eps. Here are the reasons why its awesome: 1. Phil has an awesome voice 2. Phil jokes a lot and makes me laugh 3. Phil does impressions of Bane and Milo and many more 4. Phil has good tastes in games and beverages 5. Phil talks more then the others 6. Phil is a great father 7. Phil is an awesome storyteller 8. Phil is thankful 9. Phil is the definition of "I digress," deviate, stray, and meander. Which is awesome. 10. Phil is fearless and calls comic writer's moms 11. Greg is Canadian (Mike is awesome too and CJ was roommate with Phil so he's cool too) 10 more years of Player One podcast! (90% Phil)

If I listen to only one podcast a week, I listen to This American Life. If I listen to only two podcasts a week, I listen to This American Life and Weekend Confirmed. On the extremely rare occassion I listen to THREE podcasts a week, though, I'll put Player One Podcast in the rotating third slot along with some others that I can't remember the name of. The hosts are fantastic: Cheerleader (Phil), So and So (Greg), What's Her Face (CJ), and The Ugly One (Mike) have great chemistry on the air. In case you forgot, you're reading my review of the Player One Podcast. In all seriousness, Player One Podcast is the only podcast I make sure I listen to each week. It's just some friends sitting around talking about video games and life in general, which is exactly what happens when I get together with my friends. There's no forced agenda, no script, just honest BSing about stuff for an hour or so. Love it!

...and I don't know why. The guys can be funny but not that funny. They can be informative but thats pretty rare. The Daddy Cast
The Player One podcast is great. I look forward to listening every Monday. I enjoy listening to the views of Chris, Greg, Phil, and Mike as their views typically align with my own. I like the personal chat about their kids and jobs and such. My wife refers to the show as "The Daddy Cast" from me telling her about them all having kids. In closing, it's a great video game podcast if you don't mind a conversation being derailed by a Jeff Goldblum impression. - @JerkFace_Killah

Awesome hosts
It's nice to hear from former industry guys who are now more in touch with the common gamer. And all of the hosts are great. Phil is a loveable goofball. CJ is an unapologetic fanboy and when he's confronted with this fact, he does little to deny it, making him strangely loveable. Greg is a Canadian everyman whose wife--I think--hates him. He loves Sega, so he's amazing. Mike is the secret star of the show.

Guys, the show has been getting progressively worse over the years. As others have said, the "Dad-Cast" stuff is kind of irritating. We're all glad that you guys have happy families, but hearing kids scream into microphones isn't exactly a great podcast experience for someone who just wanted to unplug from life and listen to some dudes talk about games. Maybe try to record when the kids are out playing, or at the very least, pause the discussion and edit out the kid-screams? Please? I've listened to every episode you've made for the past four years, and I still don't know who this mormon guy is (Mike?). He is about as exciting to listen to as Arthur Gies (not at all exciting to listen to), and adds nothing to the podcast.

Something about skitchin, racing, Mormons, and Apple?
This podcast is great. I can't get enough of it. These guy's personality hell together great. Unlike the trend of a lot of video game podcasts this one tends to actually talk about video games. They do go off tangent from time to time, but it's usually worth the ride. One seems to be gay. Phil? He says he just had a kid, but I'm still pretty sure he's gay. He mentions skitching alot, which i pretty sure is some kind of sexual act. That said he's probably clean cut cause of this. And clean = worth your time. There's a Canadian fellow on there. I bet he has a super high credit rating because of this. Also he gets tons on tax breaks so that helps too. Anyone with a high credit rating you can trust if school has taught me anything. There's another guy, Mike. He's Mormon. I think. He's a real forth wheel. Just kind of getting in the way. That said he shows real persistence I'm staying on the podcast despite this. That is a great personality trait and a great guy. And last there's CJ. The sexual tension between him and Phil is very noticeable. He's a real Apple fanboy, but so am I. So I like him. I'd cuddle Steve Jobs. What a genius. He buys all the new Apple products so he must be rich. Rich people are automatically smrt, which makes him great to listen to. So there it is. Great guys. Great podcast. Be sure to listen!!!

Mike was a great addition to an already terrific ensemble. Genuinely funny without the sophomoric humor of other gaming shows out there, and I can't get enough of Phil doing goofy voices. Cheap!
Podcasts come and go in my digital audio device but not the player one podcast. It is a staple i listen to every week. The views expressed are intelligent and witty. Phil with his sarcasm and horribly hilarious impressions. CJ, the apple fanboy punching bag who plays a couple of games a year yet his opinion somehow hits home. Lastly greg, playing the role of Canadian family man trying to sqeeze in a few hours of game time whenever he can. All three compliment each other with riveting tales of EGM days long since past. Each episode is a gem, whether it is dormerbot, babycast, or live audio of 3 middle aged men loudly chewing on Giordano's pizza. I am proud to call this my podcast of choice. Gotta say, I love this podcast. No other podcast, gaming or otherwise, has the same chemistry of its hosts, as the fabulous Player One Podcast does. Always interesting and funny topic discussions. They know the video game industry well, and it shows. It's saddens me greatly to know that I will not be getting anymore new episodes. But the run they had was excellent! Good luck, CJ, Stewart, Phil, and oh yeah, I guess Ford too!

Normal dudes
Yeah Phil can be annoying sometimes, but this the only podcast with normal people talking about video games. Most other podcasts have 28 year old dudes who seriously think video games are the most important thing in the world. This one has some perspective.

Tired of Phil
I've been listening for about a year but I've given up. Phil seems infatuated with the sound of his own voice. Between the constant "amirite?" and "Goooooooo!" interruptions, more time is spent recovering from his nonsensical digressions and terrible wordplay than actually discussing the subject at hand. It's unfortunate because everyone has interesting industry experiences to share and draw upon. I know every podcast has their catchphrases, in-jokes, and singular brand of silliness; you'd read the plain old news sites if you wanted otherwise. However, Phil's incessant interruptions almost destroy every decent conversation the hosts try to have. Player One seems to be successful, but in my opinion, it's in spite of, not because of Phil.

Way better than Gaming Steve
I mean seriously. These guys did 200 episodes without missing a beat. If you can look past the hosts' annoying voices, occasional racist tirades, and questionable taste in games (I've heard enough NASCAR and Dynasty Warriors talk to last me a lifetime, Phil and Greg) you're in for a mostly okay show! Greg Food is a great addition to the show, but only because he rarely speaks. Fans of the genre are sure to enjoy this product.

Fun conversational game discussion
I like the P1P, it's light and breezy, and the 4-person format means there's always some lively discussion and diversity of opinion. The current group is in their mid-30s and has nostalgia for NES and 16-bit systems, and enough perspective to have interesting stories about their experiences working for video game magazines (remember those?). They also have an app which streams their stuff and has easy access to the hosts' Twitter and voicemail. Give them a try and I'll bet they'll grow on you.

If you're into games and you like to listen to long-ish podcasts Player One is one of the best. It sure gets me through boring workdays. The hosts are amazing and not nearly as dumb as the ones on Gamers With jobs. They are all former gaming journalists and have a lot of intelligent things to say about the newest games. Stop clearing your throat!
This podcast is one of the better video game podcast on the internet. Seriously though, Chris Johnston needs to stop clearing his throat. If you listen closely, he clears his throat about 1,000 times per episode. I would have given this podcast 5 stars if Chris Johnston could use the mute button on his headset. Phil and the Gregs are awesome, keep up the good work!

My favorite video game podcast - always funny, never snobbish
During my long work day, I listen to a good number of podcasts when I'm sick of listening to music. Most of them are video game-related, and out of the five or so that I listen to regularly, the POP is definitely my favorite. The hosts have great chemistry with one another, and have been friends for a long time, so even during an uneventful week, they always at least have an entertaining story about their past employment at EGM magazine. Most video game podcasts hit the same notes as each other, week after week, so the POP's more laid-back, slightly self-depricating style of podcasting is very refreshing. These guys know how to provide entertainment, and I couldn't recommend the podcast highly enough.

why would they break format???
These guys were on thin ice to begin with. Why would they break format to talk about the death of someone no one's ever heard of. The show has basically turned into two crotchety old men who are miserable with their lives. Phil and Greg Sewart. Firstly,Phil, is a dead ringer for the pedo in little children. He is trying to be a teacher in San Francisco. Hate to break it to ya buddy, no one wants to hire people that look like pedos to be teachers. And Greg Sewart is another miserable creep. Most of the shows lately have turned into Phil and Sewart cutting off the other host, who is extremely likeable, Chris Johnston, and can actually keep a job. They use this as a forum to berate CJ and feel better about their own pathetic existences. The recent episode ended it for me though. I am going to write a few more reviews under my friends accounts and give them 1 star also so they can stay at the bottom of the podcast list so no one has to listen to this stupidity anymore. Thanks.

Welcome to the mainstream...
It's a sad day that one of my favorite podcasts is going into the can. This show used to be unique in style w/ CJ and Phil weaving methodologically through gaming topics with a touch of whimsical flair. Now it's merely a shadow of that. Now that we have the mouth that never stops from Greg Ford, it feels like a spin off of EGM/ListenUp(1UP). Forget thoughtful introspect into the gaming culture, let's focus on over talking the next guy. Sorry guys, if I wanted an ADHD addled podcast with people talking over each other, I wouldn't have given up the aforementioned. Now that others like Shane Bettenhausen (Sony's mouthpiece) has shown up, I'll definitely be tuning out. Good luck with the homogenizing.

I was really late to this party, but I've had a great time catching up. I started with the very first episode back in May or June, and just finished episode 102, so I'm almost current! This is definitely one of my two favorite podcasts (1UP Yours is the other). I'm writing this review because Phil Theobald told me I had to. I typically don't like podcasts that don't come from gaming outlets. This is not because of anything against the community, but I prefer to hear from outlets with early access to games. Great video game podcast
Player One Podcast has great interaction between the hosts who use humor to talk about current games they are playing and tell stories of their days working for EGM. They interact with their fans by posting on message boards, playing games online over PSN/XBLA, and by offering a Game Club every other week. Sometimes guests working in the video game industry drop in and share their stories about the industry and talk about what games they are playing.

Greg, Chris and Phil - three of the longtime veterans the the videogame magazine industry bring their views and opinions to their show and that's what makes it so enjoyable to listen to each week. I love how their discussions start and go into different topics, just as we do in real life. It's a must listen to - especially for Greg's Canadian NASCAR stories. Consistently good
The Player One Podcast is like the U.S. Post Office of podcasts; rain or shine, it updates at the same time every week. Reliability aside, POP is your standard gaming podcast, run by EGM vets with a good historical knowledge of the industry. At times they get a little too caught up in the "Whatcha Been Playing" segment, but they've recently brought back some interesting topics as the focus of their episodes, so I'm hopeful for some better content in the future. It'd also be nice to see the constantly-vacant fourth chair filled in by some guest hosts now and then.

Good Show, Needs Editing and Audio Work
These guys talk about what I want to hear about and they're generally interesting, but it's difficult for me to listen to at the office, because the audio levels are all over the place. One guy is really quiet and you have to turn the volume up and then another guy will come on with a ridiculous laugh that nearly blows out your speakers. The pacing is a bit all over the place, as there some times with unnecessary uncomfortable silences. Edit this show down a bit, try to keep it within an hour and fix the audio levels and this'd be a great podcast, rather than a good one.
