Used to be great
This used to be my movie review go to podcast. The chemistry used to be great but it seems like ever since they added Marjorie the show is not enjoyable at all. She is only on the show because of her husband and honestly her voice and contribution to the episodes bring nothing to the table. She is super annoying and try to be funny but fails. For the love of god you need to get rid of marjorie. I know I'm not the only one with the annoyance of Marjorie

Covered on all sides
I really appreciate this podcast for how they make sure to have a newbie, a moderate familiar and a fan on every show. Though u may not always agree with all of them I like to listen to how and why their opinions differ and why. This also leads to some good comedic arguments. They also do so many ad on reviews to movie series that aren’t really necessary but amazing. They are also pretty fearless in the face of the fan bases of franchises. Giving “not recommend’s” regardless of the fall out. They express their true opinions. If you really deep dive some of them even change their opinions after a few years to reflect or a reboot is so bad it makes the old ones look better lol. 🎟🎟🎟

Overall: great
This might be my favorite podcast. Incredible backlog, which is made even better by their format. Not much “what you been up to?” talk, just solid reviews. I don’t always agree with the hosts but almost always enjoy hearing the differing opinions. If you like movie podcasts give them a follow and maybe a few bucks.

A room of Tarantinos
I appreciate the points of views and the ground they cover. My only gripe is that it sounds like a bunch of Quentin Tarantinos yelling at each other. Interrupt that as you will.

Slow decline into mediocrity
Once upon a time I enjoyed listening to this podcast. Then came the time when they felt like everything needed to be ridiculed and hated on. If you don’t enjoy watching certain movies then don’t do series on them. It gets old listening to people complain about things.

Awesomeness
I am a musician and comic book enthusiast. I say that to say this/ I actually have to make myself listen to music sometimes, because I listen to Now playing so much. If there is a movie you don't care for, it is exponentially more entertaining to listen to this team of reviewers "rip it a new one". Great podcast. (Btw, I didn’t think this podcast could get any better until I read some of the ridiculous whining in the reviews which were almost as entertaining!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣)

‘Now Playing’ Is one of the Greats!
I just discovered these guys! And what fantastic content they produce— in contrast to some other movie podcasts that tend to just de-evolve in to a lot of circular, mindless chit chat — — the ‘Now Playing’ crew keeps their pod episodes trimmed and focused. These guys are definitely humorous, but they go deep on every movie they cover as well. It’s obvious this team does a lot of research for each episode, so you get great trivia along side winsome delivery and impassioned opinions. Example: I highly recommend their series on David Lynch. I’m a huge Lynch-Head, and I’m still learning a lot (all the while, getting a great mix of informed yet varied opinions on Lynch’s filmography & importance as a auteur). These guys deserve to be at the forefront of the ‘greatest movie podcasts’ conversation Keep it up ‘Now Playing’ Team!

A must podcast for movie lovers
I’ve been listening to Now Playing since 2009. That’s some serious staying power for a podcast when there are so many movie review podcasts out there. I still look forward to new episodes.

Love the show!
These dudes are great, and they’re always my go-to for work and other down time. They always offer great insight into films, have well put together arguments, and offer plenty of behind the scenes facts. All of the hosts are great, and I especially appreciate Stuart’s filmmaking knowledge. I feel like I learn a lot when I listen to these guys and I’m usually always engaged with what they’re talking about, even if I don’t care to see the movie they’re reviewing! Give them a listen!

Millennial grudge
Been listening to these guys for a good while Best movie reviewers around, beside Arnie being annoying most of the time my only gripe is their hate for younger generations. If they don’t get something it’s because the movie is for millennials lol Edit Arnie lost all credibility saying Lego Batman is his favorite Batman movie Get rid of Arnie and this review goes to 4

Not everything is 9/11
Listening to all the podcasts and it’s a joke anymore guarantee you that you can’t make it through one episode without a 9/11 reference even lord of the rings a book that’s been out years before the event As for the hosts: one’s a so called “completest” can’t complete a series to save their life One’s voice really is grating on me they constantly need “donations” to pay for their horrible shows all in all NOT RECOMMENDED

I have listened to this show from the first episode. As of today, I will no longer listen. When one host recommended Underdog and not Goonies…he has lost all credibility! Listen on only if you want elitist opinions from pompous windbags.

Such a fun deep dive for movie lovers
Was looking for a podcast about horror movies, just wanted to hear people who love the movies I love to chat it out and was thrilled to find this podcast because it’s ALL the movies I love and all the things I’ve wanted to hear more about. Even when they don’t love a movie, I learn a ton, have fun and then need to watch the movie anyway. I also love when they commit to a series - it’s like sitting with good friends who are nerding out while also bringing a lot of knowledge and appreciation to the table. Can’t get enough!!!

Amazing Podcast
I LOVE these podcasts. I just randomly stumbled across these and instantly fell in love. Some of the hosts (particularly Stuart) seemed really smug when discussing movies but over the past decade of listening I completely understand where he comes from. You can tell these host have a deep love and passion for film and I appreciate it. The put in a ton of work into this show. I randomly came across this podcast in 2012 while looking for a Nightmare on Elm Street review and their review was the PERFECT format for what I was looking for. So glad to have invested in this podcast.

Used to be great
I’ve been listening for over 10 years, and this used to be one of my favorite podcasts. I participated in most of their donation drives, and I even had one of their mouse pads. Nice discussion about movies and a comprehensive look at a franchise or filmography. HOWEVER. This show has really changed over the years. The hosts seemed to be frequently more and more pessimistic and negative when reviewing films. Not fun to listen to anymore. They’ve also become more political, frequently inserting much of their personal politics and worldview into the discussion. It’s starting to become grating. I’ve always found Jakob a little annoying, but now he is so pretentious and almost unbearable. Go back and listen to old episodes. Stay away from anything they’ve made in the last few years.

Too negative and becoming more concerned with money
I really enjoy listening to these guys in a conversational style. These guys seem to know their stuff, but some of the hosts (depending on the retrospective), especially Stuart, take this way too seriously and are hypocritical at times. Some of the hosts shouldn't even be doing some if the retrospectives when they don't understand some of the material (like Arnie on the Rocky films). Thankfully, at times, they will call each other out on that sometimes. It's entertaining; but movies are made for entertainment and these guys sometimes forget that. Despite the flaws, I would recommend it. EDIT: Nov. 14, 2013 They've become too concerned about making money anymore. It's sad and ridiculous. I even suggested them reviewing the Godzilla series leading up to next year's "Godzilla" since, not only am I a fan of the series, but Stuart is as well. Nope. Arnie hates the series and said "it would be too much of the same." This makes no sense considering the NUMEROUS retrospectives they've had where such movies are repetitious (Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, etc.). But I guess those retrospectives are okay, because Arnie is a horror fan so they got the green light. Lame excuse. They've become increasingly negative as well and I don't sense the passion anymore. They continue to get information wrong about certain movies (their errors with the Rocky series is still irritating me even now and even getting a number of things wrong with the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World series) and are too arrogant. At times I feel like they are taking an indirect jab at people who enjoy some of the movies they review. I've lost my passion for this. They are becoming too concerned about money. This entire year has been filled with some sort of commercial about a donation drive where they're reviewing a particular set of films. It's not worth it. I used to like it, now I abhor it. There are better podcasts out there that review movies. Such podcasts have hosts that understand movies are about ENTERTAINMENT and not the stupid nit-picky stuff these guys talk about most of the time. You're better off checking out a different podcast.

I want to like this so much more.
I really want to like this podcast so much more, but they don’t seem to like most of the movies they review. I love listening to people talk about movies, but it can get really hard to listen to when all they do is nitpick. That’s not to say that there aren’t some really good episodes, there are, but you never know if you’re going to get a good one or one where they bash a film.

Opinions! How wonderful!
Now Playing is one of my favorite podcasts. It’s so refreshing to find movie reviewers who are honest and aren’t afraid to have discussions that are contrary to the popular “critic” opinion. I’m baffled by some of the reviews I’ve seen here that refer to the hosts as “woke” “rude” or any other unflattering term. The hosts of this show not only neither of those things, they are some the most informative, thorough, and entertaining movie reviewers I’ve ever had the pleasure to listen to. Now Playing is a podcast I listen to to learn new things and details I may have missed myself in a film. I guess don’t listen if you’re looking for the same exact regurgitated takes from Twitter or Reddit?

5 stars even though reviewers think Jan 6th was like 9/11
I love listening to the reviews, they are very entertaining. However, comparing murderous terrorists to Jan 6th over and over makes me think the reviewers have lost their minds. Batman was a terrible but beautifully shot movie that I am only glad I saw because then I could enjoy this podcast. Great show, ridiculous political commentary.

The only podcast I donate to
There are some truly terrible reviews that confuse me. Saying the hosts are rude, or “virtue signal” makes my head explode Ala Scanners. Stuart hits nothing but home runs and his mother once frightened him as a child yelling that Michael Myers as in the house. Arnie has held about 1045 jobs in his lifetime by my count because he always says he used to work in (blank) and is the backbone of this series by hosting almost each and every one of them. Jakob is hilarious and throws side comments that make me laugh. Then Justin comes on and called the new Uncharted “the Goonie- Ana Jones Code” which pretty much dropped the mic. I love these guys. I’ve donated every time they offer bonus content because I want them to have my money to buy awful imported blu rays to review. Thank you Stuart, Arnie, Jakob, Justin and Brock… James Brock for all you do.

The ultimate movie review podcast
As a movie lover this is my favorite movie podcast. I’ve listened to a lot of podcast but none of them cover more movies than this one. As a horror lover I really appreciate the amount of horror that is reviewed as well as the knowledge the hosts have and the completionist nature of the show. No longer must I watch terrible horror alone. The format of the show makes me feel like I’m watching my favorite movie when listening which makes the episodes really listenable. The ample amount of free content also is awesome. The hosts really make the show though. All are great at expressing their thoughts and the current main three are consistently fun to listen to. This podcast is a strong recommend.

I tried to like this one. Got through Friday The 13th through Halloween. They lost me though. Sometimes a movie should just be fun. They don't seem to like many of the movies they watch. Best Movie podcast
Very entertaining. The show is a mix of geeks(Arnie, who loves superheroes and horror) , and Stuart( who has a sharp sense of humor and dislikes lazy franchise filmmaking. The two are good friends and it shows. They have stories about their own lives and their friendship as well as analyzing every scene. They talk about actors, storytelling structure, all the good stuff. Great show for movie lovers!

One star for Stuart, the other for Jacob
I got turned on to this podcast after listening to their Death Wish retro. It’s exactly what I want out of a movie review podcast. I love those movies but they tore the franchise apart in a way that was legitimate and funny. The weakest link is Arnie. Apart from his grating voice and nonstop giggling, he seems to act daft for no reason whatsoever. It’s like a person asking you a question to an answer they already know just to engage in conversation. The most recent example is in the Halloween Kills review. He literally acted confused as to whether the 1978 flashbacks was new footage or was reused footage from the original 1978 film (Come on, Jim Cummings was there. You’d have to be an incredibly ignorant movie fan to not know who that is, never mind not knowing how the first Halloween ends). Then, literally 2 minutes later someone asks if Dr. Loomis was CGI and Arnie chimes in saying that he previously looked it up and they used prosthetics. So, he pretty much confirmed that he knew all along that the footage was brand new and was just pretending to be confused. Baffling.

Compelling listening
Love these podcasts so much that I am rewatching movies and then listening to the reviews. Revisiting old series and gaining a better understanding of the movie. Love the banter and I’ve caught up on all of 2010 and 2011 already. Best movie review podcast on the net.

Virtue signal much?
Used to be a fun podcast to listen even if i did not agree with their takes….. but somewhere along the way it seems political takes are becoming more and more apart of this show and thats not a good thing. I get that in the past few years the world has become a ruff reality to live in but thats why we watch movies to escape that for 90-120 mins help us out and stop reading into movies what not there.

Listening to this podcast started as me having fun hearing people talk about movies I love (marvel, Star Wars, etc.). Thank you guys so much for this series. I always enjoy the reviews and analysis of each release. Like my former “go-to” for reviews, the late great Mr. Ebert, even if I don’t have an interest in the movie I find myself immersed in the discussion between the different personalities and views on the show. Thank you guys again. Greatly appreciated.

This podcast is awesome overall! These guys talk about movies in the way that I talk about movies. It is very in depth, and they do their research on the directors and the way the films were made! Here’s a tip guys. People are so drowned by politics right now. I would cool it with the political talk if you want to continue growing your listenership. Politics have infiltrated EVERYTHING. Army of the Dead shows
The Army of the Dead show shows me why this used to be my favorite movie pod but different one is now. This one has gotten to be more negative, it’s like they’ve forgotten how to have fun at a movie & they want to be more serious & critical since I started listening, maybe it’s just me & what I want out of movie pod also but what puts it over the top for me is they seem to pre-judge a movie & go in with a negative mindset based on who directed the movie, I want a movie pod that goes in with open mind based on the movie not who directed it or wrote it or is the star of it. I still listen to a lot of episodes but I don’t make it through many of them unfortunately. I listen to many of the earlier shows still because I like them so much.

Petty and pretty misogynistic
I just wanna preface that I NEVER write negative reviews. I only occasionally review podcasts I really like. That said, I’m a 90’s pop culture fanboy and having just watched the new Mortal Kombat, I wanted to hear some fellow nerds discuss the film. What I stumbled upon with this podcast was really disappointing. I get that they didn’t like it, and that is fine. However, the way they spoke about the female actors/characters was in REALLY poor taste. Whether it was picking apart Jessica Mcnamee’s resume and claiming she “wasn’t attractive” enough to play Sonya (she’s actually gorgeous btw), or that the blood on Mileena’s face looked like “she went down on her girlfriend during shark week”. Just gross and frankly unfair compared to the comments made about their male costars. Never subscribed. Definitely won’t. I suggest you look for another pod if sexist locker room talk isn’t your thing.

Genre movie masters
Arnie, Stewart, Jacob, Justin and the whole gang get together to break down movies you love, hate, and maybe have never seen or never want to. Now Playing is an entertaining delve into films from blockbuster epics to the weirdest horror deep cuts. I’ve been a fan for years, listening to hundreds of hours of content at this point. Now Playing is at their best when reviewing big properties like Star Wars, Marvel, and other comic book adjacent properties - where their deep knowledge of the source material and the industry really soars. They’re at their most base and hilarious while delving into horror, or other genres that are fruitful ground for bad movies like their most recent video game movie series. Only negatives I’ve ever felt is the gang rarely delves into art films or Oscar darlings, so if you’re a high-art cinema aficionado it may not be your bag. The guys are mostly self-aware, but expect the occasional bad joke. Overall I’m a huge fan! Highly recommend their Twin Peaks retrospective series!

What Podcasting Should Be...
This is a great, great podcast. Very well done, very well edited and produced. The personalities are very distinct and articulate, they make points more than just shouting or arguing. Although sometimes their takes on movies are so far from what I ever see or think it's that difference and their professionalism that makes this so out-right enjoyable. The editing is top notch, there's no shouting or stammering or talking over each other (unlike so many other Podcasts). The only caveat for this Podcast is that some of their more desirable reviews are locked away from regular listeners (they bundle their popular reviews into "Donation Drives" releases which makes it seemingly impossible to get all their excellent reviews).

Pretty Limited
These guys have a unique schtick in being such completionists in whatever series they are covering. That being said, unless they are covering a standard 80’s action movie, they are really clueless and often times offensive. I chaff at the excesses of PC culture as well but when you listen to these guys cover anything involving women or involving minorities, they are incredibly dismissive and you can hear them rolling their eyes the entire podcast. They should stick with movies from their time, because otherwise they are just crochety old men completely incapable of empathizing with people unlike themselves.

**UPDATE 12/15/2011*** Some time ago I wrote a review for this podcast series and gave it 5 stars and stated that this was great podcast series and that the hosts gave informative, humorous and entertaining takes on the films in a manner that the listener will enjoy even if they disagree with the hosts' opinions. Recently, much of that has changed (For me, at least). For this reason, I'm dropping the review from 5 stars to 3 (and the 3 is based upon accumulated good-will). In recent months, the tone of the show has gotten darker, more political- Less fun. If I wanted to hear social commentary about the problems of racism in America, I would tune in to Rev. Al Sharpton's show on MSNBC. (INSTEAD OF A REVIEW FOR ROCKY 3) If I wanted to hear about women having to deal with sexual harassment in the workplace I would seek out information on that topic ( as opposed to listening to a review of THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS). Had I felt inspired to listen to people afflicted with Bush Derangement Syndrome I would watch MSNBC or read the editorial columns at the New York Times (Or I can listen to the host explain that the entire subtext of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE:THE BEGINNING was a editorial speaking out against GWB, the traditional nuclear family and the Iraq war.). I find this new trend utterly disappointing due to the fact that this used to be my favorite podcast series. In the past I have even donated money to help the hosts out (and to get the bonus retrospectives). It getting to the point that it's getting difficult to listen to an entire episode, let alone fathom clicking on the donate tab again. In conclusion, the earlier shows are great. (As they sometimes say) "Highly Recommended". Now, not so much. If you like a bit of ideology sprinkled in with your movie reviews (or are part of the choir they preach to) then I'd definitely recommend this podcast, because, even though I loathe what they say at times, they are all well-spoken and articulate and take pride in putting out a quality show. If you want a straight up movie review podcast devoid of political/social commentary, you might want to look elsewhere. Furthermore, the affiant sayeth naught. 1/6/13 For the most part, the show has reverted to its initial entertaining ways. There is, it seems, a concerted effort NOT to read political subtext into films where, if it exists, it is subject to interpretation and if it doesn't, nobody strains to create one. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. 10/3/2020 For the most part, I’ve stopped listening. If there is a show or a series where I can be fairly confident that there won’t be virtue-signaling I’ll give it a shot. Those releases have become fewer, and further between. The podcast has become a joyless exercise in “woke-ness”. This will be my final update as, after 12 years…yes 12 years…I’m going to unsubscribe. If anyone reads this review, you will notice an ongoing theme. I’m very political. That said, but I’m not interested in a “Reeses Peanut Butter Cup” movie podcasts. I like my entertainment and politics separated. If I wanted “TDS” or “Social Justice Warrioring” in my entertainment, there is a plethora of places to go. I raised these issue early on in my listenership pertaining to “Bush Derangement Syndrome” finding its way into their reviews. Oddly enough, politics all but disappears during the 8 years we endured the Obama administration. That must be due to the fact that his biggest scandal involved him wearing a tan suit. (Insert emoji of choice related to sarcasm.) I’m all for the 1st Amendment and the hosts are free to opine on whatever they want and to incorporate politics however they choose and I can choose not to listen. What bothers me most is the hypocrisy. Most of the hosts have a long track record of saying very—shall we say un-PC things—about the finer sex. One could say that objectifying said gender was a trademark of the earlier episodes. Hosts that feign outrage about alleged comments of political leaders have espoused, in graphic detail, a description of a young A-lister’s hacked icloud photos. If he was so concerned about the objectification/ mistreatment of women, then he should have realized that it’s imprudent to reference, let alone, delve into the graphic details of said starlet’s leaked photos. In conclusion, this is a sad occasion. I literally began listening before they completed their first retrospective. (Friday the 13th) I’ve donated hundreds-strike that—probably in excess of a thousand dollars to support NPP. I may return when Brock returns to revisit the old series. BTW- Brock seems like a great guy and stays above the fray. As it relates to week to week (and donation series) the show is just not enjoyable—for me—anymore. STRONG NOT RECOMMEND. To be fair, if you are like minded politically and don’t mind them seeking out the “boogeyman” in any movie of any genre, give the podcast a shot. The hosts are very well prepared and the show has top notch production values.

Like movies for your ears!
Been listening for years. As someone who did a lot of driving, it was nice to hear this group discuss my favorite films! They go through the whole plot, discuss their takes, and even provide some insight into the themes! This podcast will have you watching films you never have, just so you can listen to the Now Playing Crew review them!

Best review option since At The Movies! I love how they thoroughly discuss the movie BEFORE giving their rating. Always a great listen. I even listen to reviews of movies I don’t care about just to hear their discussion.

I enjoy some of your reviews but...
Normally I wouldn’t nitpick something like this but since you guys make such a big deal out of it... Millennials were born between 1981 and 1996, meaning that right now people between the ages of 24 and 39 are millennials. The characters in The New Mutants (and in the MCU Spider-Man movies) are NOT millennials. They would be classified as “Gen Z” if you feel the need to use these types of terms. Millennial is not a blanket term for “teenager” or “young person.” Again, people in their 30s are millennials! If detail matters, let detail matter!

Runny Brown Arrow
I’ve been listening to these guys since the beginning. Ten years. I’ve donated to several of their “donation drives”. I’ve even donated to their kickstarter for their “book”, which apparently cost them thousands to hire a 2nd grader to do the art. It’s embarrassingly bad. So what happened? Well, the 2016 Election happened, and these Gen Xers caught a bad case of TDS, rendering them hilariously out of touch with the normie crowd. Suddenly, after a DECADE, they can only see films through their newfound puritan identity politics. Every discussion is now racist, sexist, homophobic, white privilege, etc. These three middle aged white men have devolved into cringey college student social activists. Like a boomer buying a corvette during a midlife crisis, these Gen Xers are desperately trying to keep up with the “hip” twitter kids. The best and funniest example, is when Arnie and Jakob have to explain to Stuart what “Incel” means during their review of Joker. The show had already been going downhill by that point, but I continued to listen purely out of habit (like I said, 10 years i’ve been a fan). But that was the moment I realized I could no longer take them seriously. It was almost poetic, because I wasn’t angry or sad...I was LAUGHING! In their desperation to say the “right” things, it’s only a matter of time before they’re inevitably “canceled” by those more “woke” then them. Good luck guys! STRONG NOT RECOMMEND.

These guys are great
I’m not going to pretend like I know whose voice is whose, and I’m not going to pretend like I’ve been listening since the beginning. But I have been listening for about 2 years, and listened to about a years worth of back episodes. I can honestly say this is my favorite movie podcast. I listen to a few dozen movie podcasts, but I find myself listening to these guys first. They don’t like everything, which is fine. They aren’t here to tell you every movie is perfect. They also don’t nitpick tiny unimportant details. They offer fair criticism. And the podcast is produced very well and the audio is always perfect. I hope they do this podcast for another 1,000 episodes. I’ll listen to every single one.

Intelligent Criticism
I have great respect for this podcast. The trio complement each other and each cast flows with energy and intelligence. Their reviews of David Lynch’s films and tv Twin Peaks are really sharp. I went to their Now Peaking and admired the effort they put into explicating each episode of the three seasons of Twin Peaks. I smiled at their frustrations and flashes of anger as their patience was tested by Lynch’ loopy “art” I personally think that Lynch lost it after Lost Highway and became a poseur and charlatan- the guys were a bit nicer. And they had problems with the plot and pacing of Blade Runner!??! Go figure.

Of all the movie review podcasts, this one, in my opinion, is the best and most entertaining. I especially love the blooper reel at the end of each podcast. I’m always amazed and impressed how these people maintain day jobs and still manage the time to produce these. There are so many episodes and even if I’m not particularly interested in the movie that they are reviewing, I’m still interested in the conversation surrounding it. Keep up the great work!

i’ve been listening to now playing since i was in 5th grade!! i’m now in my second year of college and i still listen/relisten to so many of these podcasts. i love the background knowledge everyone is able to provide based on their own experiences and it helps that they’re all very like-able and funny people. i’ve accidentally busted out laughing multiple times in public while listening haha! what’s so strange is i almost feel the same way about this podcast as many of the hosts feel about star wars/a nightmare on elm street/alien; it has become a defining trait of my childhood and has always been an almost light that i utilized even in the darkest moments of childhood. sorry to get dramatic, i’m just such a fan of the podcast and will continue to listen as long as you guys are producing more episodes!!

The best to ever do it!
Arnie and the crew bring simply the widest and most diverse body of knowledge on pop culture. The hosts are in-depth, well-spoken and funny. Arnie and Stuart in particular are a good yin-yang to each other. They clearly prefer different films (Stuart seems to prefer dramas and artsier stuff while Arnie likes action and comic book movies, although interestingly they both love horror) but respect the other’s views. My only complaint is I wish we saw Brock and Marjorie on the show more often! But anyways these guys are the only movie podcast you need. They cover many genres and if they start a series they will cover everything in that series. Great work ethic and a polished production honed from experience.

Best movie podcast
I have been listening for a long time. I relisten to podcasts on road trips and find them enlightening. But most important, in today’s pandemic, it is like watching a movie with a few good friends and discussing what you got out of it. They are great bringing different perspectives. Very entertaining. Not enough stars I don’t always agree with them, but I am always entertained.

Awful
Two of these guys have the whiniest voices I have ever heard. Listening to them forced me to write a review. Guys collect yourselves and speak a little more calmly. However if their voices weren’t so bad the content of their speech is still brutally annoying. I’ve heard their reviews of Philip k dick movies and of doctor sleep. They focus on inane details for the entire podcast. Could you guys spend any more time on the problem with Henry Thomas as jack Nicholson. I actually agreed with them but they beat the point to death and it’s a short scene. Please stop podcasting.

Best Movie Review Podcast Available
I have been a Now Playing listener for 7 or 8 years and this continuously tops my playlist. I was originally searching for in-depth reviews, good critical analysis, commentary, and some fun. If that’s the type of review you want - this is it. The research, facts and detail are second to none. Arne and team are true professionals and prepare themselves as such for every podcast. Over the years, I have tried quite a few other review podcasts and they seem like jr high school attempts compared to Now Playing. Do they have quirks, biases, opinions that I don’t share? Of course they do and that is the whole point of reviewing and discussing art...I appreciate the broad spectrum they provide...even if Stuart does look a little too deep sometimes :) I’ve done the donation drives for years also and when you look at all the hours of content plus the weekly release, it is really inexpensive but high quality entertainment Worth every dollar.... I just listened to the 1000th episode and loved that the whole crew of 7 was in for the review. I’m looking forward to the next 1000! Thank You Now Playing! -Chris

The Original and the Best
I’ve been listening to Now Playing since 2009, and I’ve yet to find a movie podcast that I like as much. The concept of reviewing entire series is simply irresistible, and they never disappoint. The unique combination of film school cred, fan enthusiasm, and the occasional ability to love something for being “so bad it’s good” is an unmatched delight that I hope never goes away.

Reviews are great, but can sometime be hard to listen to.
Overall I find the show to be pretty entertaining, especially with Stuart and Brock, but WOW does Arnie bring it all down if he isn’t in love with whatever movie they’re discussing. Many of the episodes just end up being taken over by Arnie’s nitpicking and whining. It gets to the point at times where he’s just too bitter to listen to and I have to turn the episode off. Why make a podcast about movies when you don’t seem to enjoy them? Bummer, man.

The 1-star reviews are idiotic. This show is superb.
Those who are rating the show with one star because you have to “jump through hoops” to acquire the donation series, are clearly either new to podcasts or hopelessly ignorant. The quality material that is put out on a weekly basis (FOR FREE) has served as a massive influence to my growing career as a screenwriter. And as a show of gratitude, the donation series are available for a reasonable price, particularly considering the amount of info and critique that is brought to the table.

This team has the best knowledge of movies and film analysis. My only issue is that I have paid for several donation podcasts that I can I longer access. I did have some on Podbean that are no longer there and I had a special website that I could access all my old donation podcasts . Something for Everyone
I found you all when you did Back to the Future Trilogy series in 2010. I love that there are many different types of movies that you cover. You don't cover movies for everybody. There are many reviews, like your video game retrospective, that I'll listen to and have never seen the movie. I have even downloaded and listened to a review a couple of years after a new movie comes out because I don't want to be spoiled. It's hard sometimes because I love hearing Stewart (sp) poopoo superhero movies. These guys, and gals, love movies and they love talking about movies. The super fan, casual fan, and newb roundtble they do is great. It gets the movies from different perspectives and not just from 3 people that have nothing bad to say about movies.

I dig the show. I like to listen to you guys perspectives lol I disagree with a lot of them but I still like to hear it and try to see it from your angles. But I would say I would like to hear you guys give some of these movies at least a little credit. Me personally I thought the movie had its good moments but overall it was super corny and repetitive. We’d seen a lot of those moments in several other movies. However, I think it sounds a little out of touch to nitpick at things that are added just for younger people to be engaged. This movie was also made for the Bad Boys fans, so everything won’t be to cater to the average casual watcher.

This show is a must if you love genre movies. I came across the show many years ago now while looking for Nightmare in Elm Street content. That series introduced me to the show and I’ve been a fan ever since. The show is funny and relatable. Sometimes good, unless it’s anything Star Wars related.
I’m hit and miss with their reviews usually, but, their Rise of Skywalker review was so bad,I unsubscribed and now question every other review of theirs I’ve listened to. Pretending to be Star Wars experts and clearly having no knowledge of what’s actually going on in the movie is pretty inexcusable.

Used to Love
Was such a huge fan of this podcast. Constant donor and financial supporter. I loved this podcast because they seemed to have passion for movies and the films they reviewed. A unique format with one fan, one novice and someone in the middle. That has changed. Each review has gotten more cynical, nit-picky and angry. I used to love checking my feed now I am deleting this from my feed. Their Stephen King IT reviews is what broke me. Hate that this podcast has become so negative.

Review a movie for what it is!!!
Ughhh. Some movies are meant to entertain, turn your brain off, and just have fun. But these guys are like “I dOnT UnDeRsTaNd tHe PloT”. Just review it for what it is. If it’s a comic book movie review it as such. If it’s an Interstellar film review as such. I like you guys but sometimes you spend as much time being annoying on a plot you don’t understand for reasons that are just meant to make the movie flow along. And why is Stuart always grumpy. He hates every movie unless it’s Alien. Gosh. Jakob never understands what’s going on. Arnie is okay!

Bafflingly Uninsighful & Boring
I've listened to almost all of these guys' coverage of big summer blockbuster movies as well as a few cult and indie movie reviews. I honestly can't continue listening because of how vapid and empty their opinions about films and film-making are. Their reviews of disasterous movie flops can be mildly entertaining until you realise that's their one trick and they apply it to every movie they talk about. It's about an hour and half of nitpicks, bad faith critiques, and being confused about plotlines that are generally not difficult to understand for the average moviegoer. Jakob is probably the most unbearable of the trio; most of his contributions to any review boils down to minute nitpicks, stating he doesn't care about the movie/story, and being annoyed by what the movie is not, rather than reviewing it for what it is trying to be. For a group thats been in the movie podcasting game for this long (perhaps the issue), they're bafflingly uninsightful and boring.

Once great - now average
Not at all awful or terrible, and I want it known that I still think you should subscribe. However, as a listener for too many years to remember, and a supporter to their donation series up until a little over a year ago, I want to say that it has gone downhill. Let me just thank Arnie for giving us this podcast and some others, but I (and many others) truly want to hear what others have to say over him by this point. Also, to assist them in their donation series, it's getting more and more difficult and annoying, and that is why I have not donated in over a year and a half. Not a bad podcast, but it's not the best anymore, either. Average movie reviews that will at times have you laughing at loud, other times shaking your head in confusing, and still others wishing for a trio of different hosts. It was great, and it's now average.

First off I can’t get enough of this podcast. I’ll d/l specific groupings (Bond Movies, Rocky movies...) and listen to them in a row. Which leads me to my suggestion....how about doing a disaster movie retrospective like The Core, 2012, Deep Impact, Day After Tomorrow, etc. Seems to be a wealth of movies to pick from. Thanks for great listening!!!!

Favorite podcast since 2010!
Without a doubt the best podcast I am subscribed to, Now Playing is for the average person who just digs pop culture films - bonus if you’re a Gen-Xer (like me) because you’ll feel right at home here. Spotted a couple of less-than-stellar reviews (one on June 4th of this year siting ‘toxic masculinity’ finally made me have to speak up and offer comments of my own) — don’t believe any of that noise! These guys (and gal) are funny, knowledgeable, good-natured and dedicated - having NOT MISSED A SINGLE WEEK since they started over a decade ago. Best of all their format is easy to follow and the shows are well-edited and produced (most podcasts aren’t - let’s face it). If you are a Criterion film snob than this probably isn’t your speed but for the rest of us - see you for the 15th anniversary!

Low level criticism
A friend recommended this podcast to me. I tried to give it a fair shot, but I am truly baffled by the love this podcast gets. It’s a group of boys playing at being intellectual film critics. They get confused by simple plot points and character arcs. They have poor understanding of the language of film and of language in general. They also react with the most passive-aggressive toxic-masculinity whenever there is a story that centers around female protagonists or features female characters in positions of power. This is not to say I think they are inherently misogynistic or bad people, but their reactions to the growing trend of female lead movies is troubling. Also I’m sorry claiming you have wives and daughters that agree with you does not shield you from this analysis. Strong not recommend guys.

These guys are glass half empty kind of people. They haven’t liked any movies in the podcasts I’ve listen to. They haven’t liked guardians of the galaxy, infinity war, ready player one or Deadpool. They did love the last Jedi. That should tell you everything you need to know.

Great Informative Movie Discussion Podcast
I stated listening to Now Playing Podcast about 7 years ago. It is my number one movie debate podcast. The hosts have good film knowledge and give a good discussion. The reviewers come from different areas in every retrospective they record. Usually they have a fan of the series, a casual viewer and one viewer who has seen little to none of the series. It makes it unique to have different points of view. The discussions are fun and help point out interpretations of films you might have missed or overlooked. I don’t always agree with the recommendations at the end of their discussions but that’s okay.

They don't deliver what you pay for
The guys do a superb job in reviewing movies. But, they are woefully inadequate in getting special donation series podcasts to you . This is where they do special podcasts on Clint East Eastwood westerns or the Planet of the Apes original movie series. I would love to hear these, and I have paid for them. But their delivery mechanisms don't work and they don't care that they don't work. They can't blame it on Itunes either. If you're going to be in business, it's up to you to figure out how to deliver your product to the customer. And I should not feel like I have to split the atom to get their special podcasts. I feel that I have paid for things that I have not received, even though it was promised that these things would be delivered, if I donated, which I did. Bottom line, listen to their free content, but don't send them any money--you won't get what has been promised.

Amazing Show
This podcast is incredible. One of the best movie review podcasts I listen to right up there with How Did This Get Made. Stellar analysis, detailed insight and plenty of humor. My only negative is that they will pick some random series at times that I care nothing about so I will go like a month without listening to them. Right now they are doing a bunch of Pokémon movies and I could care less. Looking forward to them getting back to relevant movies. Keep up the great work gentleman. I’ve donated a couple times now and I suspect I will continue to. I’d love a way to access archive shows without having to pay for them on podbean as well.

Best movie reviewing podcast
I discovered this podcast from their Marvel retrospective series, and got hooked by their huge library of movies they’ve reviewed. The podcasts are lengthy, detailed, and show the opinions of the reviewers in a clear light. It’s overall extremely fun listening to Arnie, Stuart, Jacob, Brock or others joking around and sharing their thoughts (I adore Stuart’s giggling). In terms of analyzing film, whether its structure, tone, theme, or its score, dialogue and script, the reviewers are well knowledge and provide good analysis in my opinion, separating Now Playing from more casual movie reviewing podcast. All in all, the best podcast regarding movies that I’ve ever listened to, keep up the good work!

Looking for Something New
I had grown tired of listening to the same old podcasts and I knew that I like movies but the key thing for me is being able to like the people who are talking about the movies too. I dig these guys and they really do their homework. Listening to them discuss these movies inspires me to watch them, even the bad ones, but it’s always entertaining. Totally my new favorite podcast. I’ve listened to so many in the past several months that I even donated fifty bucks to show my support. “Green arrow” strong recommend.

Good stuff
I've been listening to this podcast for years. In the vast sea of movie podcasts out there, this one rises above all the garbage. (And oh boy, are there a lot of baaaaad movie podcasts out there.) No matter which combination of Now Playing hosts you get, you're sure to have a good discussion to listen to. Whether by design or by chance, they usually have a mixed bag of opinions on every movie, which is nice because who wants a podcast without any discussion? That said, there are some episodes where they seem to just want to hate on a movie instead of trying to find and discuss any actual merits of the film. And sometimes, some of the hosts let their personal tastes color their opinion of a new release too much. I mean, if you have no interest in a particular genre, chances are you won't like it or even try to like it or show interest, right? Maybe get another host that will actually show interest? They don't HAVE to like the movie, but they should at least show some interest. They are hosting a podcast about movies after all.

Long time listener, first time reviewer
I love this podcast because I love movie. The cast on this show is diverse, and they all do a great job respectively reviewing the different genres. I do really appreciate that the reviews are scaled from film to film and the reviewers comment based on what kind of film they are watching (critically acclaimed cinema should be judged differently from campy classics). Great content from people who understand pop culture cinema.

Has gotten BAD
Here's the thing, this used to be my favorite podcast, but over the past 2 years, this has changed. All their free podcasts have become much lower in quality. The hosts seem bored. Their paid donation series are better, but the key word is "paid". It went from a podcast, where they seemed to have passion, to it being a business. I'm tired of the constant begging as well for the listeners to donate. The constant excuses, such as server costs and such come off so pathetic. I get it, guys like Arnie, want this to be a full time job. Just admit it, or get sponsors. But enough of the begging. Also, speaking of Arnie, the show would be much better off without him. the stories he tells. His "segways", are annoying and just a poor excuse for him to talk about himself. I guess he's his own biggest fan... LOL. But ya, he's the reason why I don't listen to the cast much anymore. Even their show on The Last Air Bender. He goes on about not liking movies have a data dump in the beginning, or fantasy style films.... yet he love Star Wars that is a fantasy film, and starts every movie with a data dump scroll. It's moments like this, that makes me feel like he just loves to adjust his narrative to sound more ineteresting. Guess what, you're not interesting. Let Jacob, Brock and Stu host.

Decent Reviews, but not for Comicbook movies
A very well produced pod cast with decent humor and good audio quality. When the reviewers are reviewing the genre they enjoy it shines through and the reviews be entertaining. HOWEVER, if you're remotely a comic book fan or a fan of the comic book movie genre approach those particular podcast with caution. Superheroes are not their favorite genre and if you are knowledgeable even remotely about the subject matter you may have to take what they say with a grain of salt and fight back the urge to correct their 'expert' on the subject matter. They will nitpick a movie do death and clearly do not know how to just have fun with the fantastical. A do not recommend for comic fans.

One of the Best!
This is one of the most extensive and long-lasting movie podcasts on the internet. Normally, podcast hosts will stick to one genre, but here, you get to hear varied reviews on action, animated, horror, sci-fi, and more genres. All have their trenchant viewpoints, but they usually give perceptive reasoning why they like or dislike a film besides just saying something is just dumb or the greatest thing ever. Plus they are humorous and have good chemistry.

Movie Reviews Down to a Science
I’ve been listening to Now Playing Podcast for half a decade now and sometimes I’m still astonished at how much workmanship is on display. The editing is tight, so you don’t have to suffer through long pauses and vocal tics. The opening and end credits are perfect bookends for every episode. But what really makes this podcast special is that it makes you feel like you’re in a room with voices you know talking movies. Almost every discussion has contrasting viewpoints and opinions that make 1-2 hours of discussion feel like 20 minutes. I’ve donated plenty of times in the past and I do monthly as well because I believe this is one of the highest quality movie podcasts out there. They’ve covered just about every series so if you’re interested at all please give it a listen!

Pretty good expect...
The big problem is Arnie. He's very arrogant and clearly doesn't fact check before opening his mouth, which drives me crazy. There's been several episodes where he spews out his falsehoods like he's all knowing and what's crazy is he helped write a book (Yikes). Besides him the show is good. I like Stuart and Brock, it's just to bad their not the main guys on the show.

Two stars deducted because Stuart is immensely annoying.
This would be a five star podcast if not for Stuart. It is as though he purposefully takes a contrarian view on just about everything. Additionally, his self-assured know-it-all attitude compounds the problem. You can listen to him on some of the Marvel movies talk about “this is going to happen“ or “that is going to happen“ or “this is the last time will see that actor“... and almost 100% of the time, he is 100% in the wrong. What makes his pontificating even more infuriating as the fact that so many times they seemingly hasn’t even paid attention to the movie that he is supposedly reviewing. I swear, if there was one quote that is most attributable to this guy, it is “I don’t get it“ or “I didn’t get it“. And that tagline is usually associated with “after multiple viewings“. Pay attention! I can’t imagine having to endure someone like him in real life. Everyone else is outstanding! I can’t say enough good things. Even when there are dissenting opinions or things with which I might not agree, everyone else manages to present their opinion and a way that does not sound as though it has been slathered with disdain.

The best movie podcast in a while. They won’t take the easy route of praising or trashing a movie. I enjoy this podcast… When they actually put one out on this feed that is! most this feeds content is now infomercials for their patriae on account! With a brief preview of what you find there… now… I understand the need to try and monetize the network. Server space and production equipment ain’t cheap! and I listen to a lot of podcasts that offer bonus content if you donate or join their patriotic count… But none of the other ones I listen to have these extended add episodes clogging up the feed continuously! I will allow that apples new podcast app refusing to let you easily delete unwanted episodes is aggravating this issue, but if this is your game plan, Arnie and the gang should just go to a complete pay Wall app and be done with it! finally, I want to point out that my distaste for this podcast lies completely with the marketing. The cast and production quality are very good and highly entertaining, when you can find a full episode amidst all the junk mail

Unfortunately there are a lot of other good movie review podcast that don’t make you pay to listen to certain episodes. Was disappointed when I downloaded a episode and it was only a preview. These guys rock 👊
Not gonna lie, I felt like I had to write this review so I won’t feel guilty when the guys bring it up each episode. I’m a pretty seasoned podcast listener and this is hands down my favorite. The way they dissect each film they discuss is incredible. It is a rare occasion that a point I want to make about a movie isn’t brought up by someone. All of the guys bring such interesting perspectives to each movie. The respect that they show to each other’s ideas creates a great environment. It feels like you are listening in on a conversation between a couple of friends talking about their passion. Top Notch Movie Reviews
I thoroughly enjoy this podcast and its characters with different opinions. The notes about casting and production are a unique touch not many others are doing. As a fan of film I do enjoy that touch and I feel like I'm learning something. My only hang up is a small one. When cast names and character names are mispronounced, it bothers me. My own pet peeve. But other than that I enjoy listening to these while at work and it helps my night go by faster. Thank you guys for what you do and keep it up.

Best Podcast
This is my favorite podcast. I love the concept of reviewing movie franchises. They have the best way of reviewing movies by giving some history of the making of the movie, giving a detailed plot summary, and then going through the movie chronologically scene by scene analyses. I wish more movie critics would copy this format. They do their homework and are very fun to listen too.

Absolutely. If you’re like me and you enjoy many different genres, you’ll love this podcast. Loved this podcast, and have for awhile but after so many episodes were put behind 3.99 paywalls I have to walk away from it. I tolerated it for awhile but I can no longer subscribe and listen. Maybe I’d return if there weren’t so many paywalls, or some kind of patreon subscription service but for now, as someone who is a creator, and produces albums, podcasts, and the occasional TV pilot, 3.99 is not fair to your audience, It’s practically highway robbery. The group is always great to listen to and the conversations are fun, this is nothing against them, it’s against their “business model”.

Well thought-out, albeit often critical reviews
I enjoy listening to Now Playing movie reviews. The hosts are articulate and do a decent job of researching each movie they review. The have a good rapport and you can tell they are good friends IRL. Yes, they are often critical of many of my favorite movies. But to be honest, for the most part, I actually agree with their criticsms. That doesn't detract from my love of said movie, however. I can still find faults in movies that I love and still enjoy them. And usually their is at least one dissenting opinion for any given movie so I don't feel like it is all negative. That said, they also praise many movies that I love, and some movie that I hated, so they are pretty balanced in that regard. I would definitely recommend checking out "Now Playing," just don't get all butt-hurt if they diss one of your favorite childhood movies, lol.

Jacob's hatred of Cavill's portrayal is pretty annoying. In the Justice League review he stated that Cavill doesn't even care about the character and that he never seems very enthusiastic about playing superman in interviews. He's flat out wrong about this. There are many interviews where Cavill speaks of what an honor it is to play him and the responsiblity that comes with the character. I love Chris Evan's portrayal of Capt america for example but never hear him or any other actor in the avengers movies speak about their characters the way Cavill speaks about Superman. Jacob and the rest of the guys should get over the 1978 version of Superman (as classic as it is) and accept that there needed to be an updated contemporary version of the character. The last time we got a direct copy of Reeve was in Superman Returns and guess what??.......It was boring !!!!!

Smart, In-depth, and Very Entertaining
Now Playing is the essential critical review podcast for every movie series and one off you can think of, and many more you didn’t know that you wanted to see. The template of newbie reviewer, expert, and one more in the middle, gives every series and one off film a balance of knowledge with a first time perspective as well. The mix of Arnie, Stewart, Marjorie, Jacob, Brock, and the rest is also fun. You may not agree with some, but you will always be please by the debate. Professional, but without ads. Great Podcast, but...
I’ve enjoyed Now Playing for years. It’s always been one of my favorite podcasts- the hosts bring a lot of knowledge about movies to each show, and the differing opinions of the hosts make for some great discussions. As far as the actual content of the show, I have very little to complain about. But the distribution of the show is another matter. For many years, Now Playing has operated on a donation model. They release free shows every tuesday, and throughout the year run various donation drives in which people can pay to receive bonus episodes, often covering very popular/highly requested movies that aren’t on the main feed. (The hosts insist that this isn’t the same as “selling” episodes, but I fail to see the distinction.) These donation drives are limited time, often rather expensive, and when they’re over, these shows are no longer available to anyone. I would argue that, in the modern era of digital distribution and crowdfunding, that this model is outdated, unnecessary, and a frustrating barrier to entry for newcomers. Some of the show’s best episodes are locked behind this paywall. In 2017, they’ve re-opened the vault (presumably until the end of the year), but these shows are still the same price that they were when originally released, some of them years ago. To purchase all of them would cost somewhere in the ballpark of $500, or even just a few select series that are particularly noteworthy (Alien, Edgar Wright, Matrix, Lord of the Rings, just to give an idea of the caliber of movies covered in these shows) costs upwards of $100. I understand that creators of online content deserve to make money from their creations. But it’s been demonstrated that this is possible without locking significant portions of your content behind a paywall, or worse, keeping this content inaccessible to the public entirely. Creators are flourishing on Patreon without having to hide away any of their core content. Other podcasts get by with in-show advertisements (which often take less time out of a given show than Now Playing’s ads for their own donation drives take from theirs). But the way that Now Playing uses their donation drives is, in my view, manipulative. Artificially restricting supply of a digital product to drive higher and more frequent donations (get it now or it’s gone forever!) is not how digital media distribution should be handled. And countless other content creators in the digital age have proven that it’s unnecessary. I love the podcast, but I really think it’s time to rethink the show’s business model.

I've listened to lots of movie review podcasts and this one is hands-down my favorite. Everyone on the show is very knowledgable about the movies they discuss, as well as technical details about how movies are made, etc. These guys (and girls) know their stuff, are passionate, and have brought new perspectives to some of my favorite movies.

Great but so incredibly white
I enjoy this podcast and is a great listen on long drives but it is astonishing how white the commentary feels, particularly when it's a movie with a black cast. The Creed review and Bad Boys II reviews stick out especially.

Best movie podcast out there!
I've checked out quite a few different podcasts that review movie and by far, theses guys are the best. They are well educated in film, and they are very entertaining. They do their research, and have great chemistry between them. If the movie is bad, good, great, mediocre, or flat out terrible, you'll enjoy the way they break it down. Keep it up guys!

My favorite podcast ever
I just love listening to these guys... happened upon the cast in 2009 when I was driving down to Arizona... their series on Friday the 13th hooked me and I've been a fan ever since! I've donated to nearly all their drives over the last 2-3 years. Well edited and laboriously researched, Arnie and Co. have really become a well oiled machine. Listening to their earliest shows vs. now shows a real dedication to improving their craft and maturing their approach. Well done, a definite recommend to anyone who enjoys comics, action, horror, and beyond!

Most comprehensive Movie Review podcast! The Best!
Now Playing was one of the first movie podcasts I ever listened to. I found them after googling a movie I had just seen and looking for podcast reviews. Thank god I stumbled upon them. You can tell right away from the work put into the intro that you are listening to a quality podcast. With extensive background and related material information, you feel like a regular to the series they are reviewing, even if you have never heard of it. 4 years later, this is still my favorite podcast. Thank you so much Venganza Media!

It's OK if you don't need a challenge
I am a white dude who grew up on white dude movies, which is a shame. (My young brain could have used some culture outside of my own) ...I like this podcast and they do their homework (and strike a good balance between too much and too little info) but I really don't want to hear thoughts on so many of these bad movies. It's fun in some way to hear people talk about movies you have already seen, but some of the cast members have never even watched some of these bad movies until now -- and this is what I thought was a podcast by movie nuts. I would just say that they try hard and do good work, but there are not many fresh perspectives here. There are almost no discussions of cutting-edge, artier films or films with black or brown people in them (yes, people other than white people make really good movies) and the cast's apparent lack of knowlegde of these other-than-white movies means I am just listening to more guys like me, but minus the curiousity for movies that are not just the same dude-guy stuff. Listen to it while you work, and you will be entertained, but don't be surprised to hear the occasional crewd or sexist (and sometimes slightly homophobic) remarks. They DO warn you, after all. I'll unsub now and will move on to another one.

Recommend
Thorough discussion, and a solid rating system. However, often times, there is difficulty with sustaining objectivity. Arnie, one of the hosts, just managed to criticize fans of the Underworld franchise and recommend Resident Evil: Apocalypse in the same podcast. It's quite strange, and although disagreements and biased conclusions are to be expected from any reviewer, it weighs heavy here. It's accentuated during the occasional involvement of Marjorie, or superhero films. Still, definitely worth a weekly listen, especially for sheer volume of content. Additionally, the majority of the humor works, and the hosts are all appropriately knowledgeable. Thanks for all the free content.

servo0's review...
gave me a laugh because as he can't tell Arnie and Stuart apart he mistakingly attributed the sometimes butchering of the English language to the wrong guy. They both do have somewhat grating voices but Stuart's is deeper and fairly easy to distinguish. His choice as the best, Jakob, is my least favorite due to his using the word "like" as filler constantly, which takes me out of the subject matter at times. Arnie's wife, Marjorie, is the most polished speaker and her conversation flow is usually bereft of the annoying filler words the others use, subconsciously. Brock is okay, but he can come across with a bit of a caveman mentality, openly sneering at things which may not mesh with his particular views on feminism, politics, etc.. His contributions to the James Bond series were stellar for the most, though. As a platinum level donor to the last drive I obviously really enjoy the podcasts on the whole, and have also pre-ordered their book bundle. I'm looking forward to hearing Jakob's oral reviews because presumably if he's reading straight from text the aforementioned issue won't come into play. I sincerely wish they would allow donors to choose which podcasts in "the vault" they could receive since while I gave money to support their cause the ones they offered were not as interesting to me as, say, the Tarantino reviews, which were offered before I became a dedicated listener. I reckon they could raise far more if they employed this method and it can't be difficult since they are just sitting in their database gathering virtual dust. Even with these caveats I still highly recommend their podcasts to all film buffs, and even movies I have little to no interest in are given a good and entertaining once over, as they are very thorough and clearly do the research entailed to deliver a well informed product.

Many Better Movie Review Options via Podcast and YouTube and Less Whining
Really respect the opinions of Stuart and Brock as they seem to be much more open minded and their opinions have real substance... Arnie always seems to be whining and finding fault at the littlest details that his counterparts don't find as impactful. Don't like how they always seem to be asking for donations, when other Podcasts never do so. Perhaps they should look for sponsors/advertisers if they really need financial help. If you want more realistic reviews, look elsewhere... plenty of other better options out there without the whining and asking for a handout.

Thank the maker!
I used to get this urge to rewatch every two bit franchise, series, or darling auteur's oeuvre at each new installment. Boy did that ever waste time and leave sour residue. Then I found Now Playing and now these folks shoulder that awful burden for me. Now Playing takes obsessively deep dives, with full plot summaries and scene by scene analysis with 3 or more hosts coming from different perspectives. A really accessible and honest show, I love it!

Hands down the best
I’ve listened to about a dozen film review podcasts and let me say that Now Playing is the best podcast show by far. They take great care in giving the plot outline, character motivations, themes, behind the scenes trivia, artistic and practical approaches to the film’s production. These are intelligent reviews by people who take pride in what they do. Stewart, Arnie, and Jacob don’t just discuss what happens in a scene only to say if they liked it or didn’t, but really dig into the subtext and meaning (if there is one) and debate with each other why a scene works or doesn’t work. And having a BFA in film I really appreciate their input. I also appreciate that they will take just as much care in analyzing a low budget B-grade genre film in the same way they would analyze a big budget studio A-picture. My only complaint is that, having been only introduced to them roughly a little over a year ago, I’ve missed out on a lot of their reviews I would love to listen to that they have locked away in the vault with no access to. I hope one day they will reopen some of these from time to time.

For the lonely movie goer
I love listening to this podcast because movies are one of my favorite things. However, I don't have any friends that love plot twist or character development like I do. Instead they go for the funny lines and action pack scenes. So being able to listen to ppl that share those things with me is something I really wanted. The fact the show is also funny and not extremely serious is a huge plus.

Great Podcast with one major flaw...
I love love love this podcast. Its one of my top 5 for sure. The hosts put int the time, do their homework, and are really entertaining. I love the way they do series of movies at a time. The Children of the Corn might be my favorite I have listened to (even though they are crappy movies.) Best compliment I can give them is that you don't even have to watch the film to enjoy their podcast on the film. I'll even go back sometimes and listen to podcasts more than once they're so good. So what's the flaw? Why only 4 stars? The problem with the show is that the best retrospectives are only for paid memebers. Not an issue because I support many podcasts that I enjoy even when not required. However their system is really not well thought out (or just old fashioned.) Most podcasts are around a buck a month. Pretty standard. These guys do "donation drives" for the best movies for $30 every six months!!! Plus, the worst part, you can never get the old episodes once the drive is over. There is no way I can hear their Alien retrospective. Or Matrix. Or Indiana Jones. They proudly say theyre locked up forever. WHY??? They complain that less than 1% of the listeners so this. Yeah, I'll bet. Get with the times. Get with Patreon (which I use to support most podcasts) or get a Club going where if you join for a buck or so a month and unlock those past restrospectives. I'd love to support the guys and bet they'd make a lot more money and have a lot more memebers that way. So, give them a try. Its a great podcast. Just be prepared to miss out on the best stuff.

Great listening for a variety of reasons. If you want to know the gist of a movie you aren't going to see, this is the most fun way to do it. If you want to know some trivia about movies you don't know much about, this is the best way to do it. If you want to relive a movie you love, or refresh your memory, this is the best way to do it short of rewatching. I also think the main hosts (arnie, stuart, jakob) have a great variety of good opinions about movies and the world movies reflect. PS one of them has a meltdown during Star Wars episode III that was hilarious

Best Movie Podcast
Looking for good podcasts about movies, I found Now Playing about a year and a half ago. Within that time I’ve listened to their whole catalogue of over 400 podcasts, and now eagerly await every Wednesday, and sometimes also Friday, for their next release. Every episode is a fun mix of analysis and humor. It’s always a trio, often Arnie, Jakob/Brock, and Stuart. They each have unique likes, which can be quite hilarious as they discuss a movie outside of their normal viewing. (I felt Stuart’s pain through the beginning of the Marvel retrospective.) I also really like that every episode starts with a plot summary and that they their discussion follows the timeline of the movie. It’s done so well that for the obscure or older movies that are harder to get a copy of, you can still enjoy the podcast without having seen the movie. My one criticism is that they mainly focus on action and horror films, which I enjoy, but I love it whenever they changed things up like with the Phillip K Dick and Christopher Nolan retrospectives, and Richard Linklater’s “Before” trilogy. This is one of my all time favorite podcasts, and I can only hope that they’re able to keep going for many years to come.

Loved this podcast until...
I have listened to “Now Playing” almost since the beginning and over the years had ranked it among my favorite podcasts. The show itself is extremely well edited & researched and always fun to listen to, no matter if I care about (or have even seen) the films they’re discussing. Listening to Arnie, Stuart, Jacob/and or Brock each week is akin to hanging out at a café with a group of friends talking movies. My only complaint is the constant plugging for their latest “donation series”, where if you donate X number of dollars you’ll get to listen to some exclusive episodes – kind of like the televangelist who promises you a copy of his latest book for a monetary donation to his ministry. They say it’s to “help support the show” and I will take them for their word about that, but these donation drives have increased in number over the years to the point of nausea. It’s as if these friends I enjoyed hanging out with at the café are now hitting me up for money all the time.

It's...alright.
Hold on to your butts, because I think I'm going to offer a more in-depth review of their podcast than they do a lot of the movies they claim they are forced to endure. For the most part they have valid points. I can hear their knowledge of the subject matter they're familiar with and sometimes come out with new insight. I say sometimes to be generous. The one guy constantly sounds like he is tired and disinterested, as if he's doing the review and also playing on his phone. As a listener you hear that, and can also lose interest in his opinion. I believe it is also this same guy (I don't bother recalling his name) who in the Force Awakens review used his 'analysis' of Rey to bash Millenials. As a Millenial, I almost stopped listening altogether because I get enough of that from other venues. I don't know if he's a Gen X guy with genuine feelings on Millenials, or just a sheep on the bandwagon of bashing the newest generation. Either way what little weight I gave his opinion vanished, and now I tune him out on every episode. Screw you too, buddy. The other two are fine. They know franchises and bring their knowledge to bear as needed, which is helpful. My only gripe really is they flip-flop between showing and telling in movie narratives. Which gets aggravating because I have found little conistency in what they think is good narrative style.

An idea for a fun drinking game
So, here's a drinking game you can play with the Now Playing podcast: Every time someone mispronounces someone's name (Olivia Moon, Elizabeth Munn (it's Olivia Munn), Paul Veerhoven, Paul Vorhooven (it's Paul Verhoeven), take a drink. Every time Stuart says "supposably", take a drink. Every time Stuart says "drownding", take a drink. Every time Stuart says "By and large", take a drink. Every time anyone gets a plot point about a movie they just watched wrong, take a drink. Every time you get Arnie and Stuart's voices confused, take a drink. Every time, you wish Jacob was the only host, take a drink. You'll be in the hospital by the time the podcast is over.

If you love movies, this is the podcast for you. Each episode takes a different film and breaks down the plot from beginning to end. The three reviewers, Arnie, Stuart, and Jacob(sometimes Marjorie and Brock), give their thoughts and opinions on the films with hilarious and genuinely thoughtful commentary. For the most part, it's good
I'll start this review off by saying that I *do* like this podcast, and that I do listen to it pretty frequently. They give pretty fair and usually thoughtful analyses to a wide variety of movies. That said, when they come across stuff that they don't *get*, it can be really frustrating listening to them fumble through an analysis; "I just don't get this, there was a wizard and he made a ring or something, I had a hard time following it" etc etc.

An excellent podcast for those of us who like genre films you can nerd out on in some capacity (horror, sci-fi, action, cult classics, comic-based, etc.). The mix of hosts and their different opinions are always entertaining and informative - and I like that the reviews come from actual fans of popular culture, not pretentious critics. I found it through the other literary podcast they do, “Books & Nachos,” which I like just as much (if not more). Highly recommended!

The ultimate movie review podcast
Bottom line: these guys are good. This is an addictive podcast, particularly for those who enjoy the nerdy type movies: superhero, science fiction, horror. Nearly all the comic book based movies are reviewed here, and the review team really goes the extra mile in many cases with expansive reviews, and they also will commonly review the obscure B-movie stuff along with the blockbusters if it fits the theme. The main review trio is comprised of Arnie, Jakob and Stuart, and these guys mesh very well stylistically with their reviews. Brock is also a notable reviewer on some of the prominent franchises like Star Trek and James Bond. Listen long enough and you'll start catching the rhythym of the casual conversational tone mixed with unflinching critiques. This is my go-to podcast when I've had enough of news and current events and am just looking for some plain fun. Excellent.

When I kick back to relax, 7 times out of 10 a movie gets put on the laptop. When you can’t watch a movie and get that fix, this podcast is a great way to experience films a second time through the headphones when on the go or mellowing out. What WHORES they are
While I sometimes enjoy the podcast the CONSTANT begging for money and the carrot treatment. "This is what we have done, give us money and you can hear it" the podcast is interesting and well informed but the hosts are such WHORES it gets unlistenable at the end. I almost wrecked my car trying to beat Stewarts high pitch wining voice beging again and again. Plz get a sponsor

fun (mostly)
I enjoy the insights and analysis. I sometimes wonder if the contrarian reviews are the result of overthinking, but then I'll hear Brock swoosh in there with a layman point of view. Thanks for taking time to make movies fun.

Do not Recommend..
So, before I start I would like to say that i gave this show a fair chance. I listened to almost every episode available on iTunes ( with the exception of the star trek ones) and i cannot recommend this podcast. These guys are so pretentious! They rip movies apart by criticizing the smallest detail in a movie. If its a movie they enjoy they will refer to a similarity to another movie as a nod or an homage, but if its a movie they don’t like it suddenly becomes a ripoff of a film. GOD FORBID a movie doesn’t live up to poltergeist, buffy the vampire slayer or star wars because those seem to be the only movies ( and shows) they hold dear. Then, there is ARNIE and his wife Marjorie who claim to LOVE horror movies but criticize the hell out of every single movie they review. Give it a listen if you must, but there are much more enjoyable movie podcasts out there than this. I tried but I can’t get past the constant negative remarks.

One of my favorite podcasts!
I appreciate the fact that they are true film buffs (often acknowledging their wide range of film styles they prefer) but stick primarily to the popcorn blockbuster flicks to appeal to a wider audience, so you get the best of both worlds in their analyses. Each episode is a extreme dissection of plot, style, themes, behind-the-scenes storytelling, and a lot of personal opinion on scenes. What I personally love is that Stuart seems to upfront dislike 90% of what they watch - often admitting that he's not as "genre" as the others and preferred (at least at one point) more art house type films. So he brings more of the opposing views, or the confused, or first-timer perspectives to them. It makes things more interesting than having another show with all fans just blindly agreeing to everything that comes out. I like how he's got apprehension, but often still comes out enjoying them in the end of it.

Once A Fan
The novelty of this podcast wears off very quickly when you realize you're just going to get the exact same angle each week from the main hosts. The one higher pitched host who always plays contrarian is almost unbearable in how whiney and predictable his reaction will be and annoying with his *ugh* and *blech* sound effects whenever he finds something disagreeable. Furthermore, if you do decide that you enjoy these podcasts, you'll be happy to know majority of the big film series are locked behind a donation paywall, and unplayable through your podcast app even if you buy them. What makes this worse is they go on long diatribes about how they need your money because of how much it costs and how much effort goes into producing the show, then in the same podcast Arnie will mention buying hundreds of dollars of collectible toys over the weekend. Its petty to play the beggar than turn around and drop hundreds on toys. Wring out what enjoyment you can from Now Playing for free, then find a podcast with more real discussions and less formulaic talking points, that isn't concerned with squeezing you with exorbitantly priced 'donation packages' for content unplayable on your phone.

They Make Me Laugh!
I will be honest. I pick and choose the shows that I listen too. I'm not into all of the horrow franchises that they seem to focus on. I do listen to the current release movies and determine if I'm going to waste a few bucks and 2 hours at the theater on a film. The shows are very well done and these guys can be way to harsh at times. I find that Stuart is my favorite and his sensilities seem to match my own tastes. I so love his imaginary children bit. lol Arnie seems to be the researcher in the group and comes up with very interesting trivia. Jakob tastes seem to be humourous, dark and twisted at times. It would be great if these guys reviewed classic comedies. I would love to see their take on Animal House, Christmas Vacation, and The Blues Brothers. Hey guys you wasted time on Human Centipede. It would be more fun to listen to you guys talk about National Lampoons Vacation instead.

The addicting drug of podcasts
Go ahead and start listening to one of the lengthy retrospective series that Now Playing does on some of the most beloved film series of all time. I dare you. By the end you'll find yourself unaware that hours upon hours of podcasts have gone by and you'll by dying for more. The hosts do their homework on each and every movie they review, and you'll be left with a much fuller understanding and appreciation for every movie they talk about. They do a great job breaking down what works and what doesn't in each movie, which ultimately leads to each host giving their final verdict of the movie in the form of a "Reccommend" or "Not Reccommend" (very similar to the Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down that Siskel and Ebert made famous). A great podcast for both diehard movie buffs and casual movie goers.

Unique movie review show
This podcast fills a void I've had with various other movie shows. It's not just a show where professional critics discuss new movies or prestigious independent films. This show features a bunch of regular "nerds" talking about the movies that I want to hear about. Whether it's the latest comic book blockbuster or 80s horror franchise, it's good to hear people I can relate to talk about movies that I care about.

All killer, no filler
Now Playing does something that most other podcasts do not...they get right to the point. Many podcasts feel the need to start off talking about their day or ten minutes of inside jokes that we, the listeners, either don't understand, don't care about or both. Now Playing does not take this route, instead choosing to talk about the movie and provide a humorous and smart approach. I applaud you and will continue to listen. Keep up the good work.

These guys do such a great job in every respect. The summaries of the movies are well done, the insights and film knowledge are great. A Well Balanced Movie Podcast for the Movie Buff
I stumbled onto this podcast about a month ago and have been a fan since. The hosts come off as being knowlegable about movies and how they are made, without being snobby to the average audience. Each podcast generally features a reviewer who is a fanboy of the movie as well as a relative newcomer to the movie. Also, there is generally a reviewer who has either read the source material for the movie, book or comic, and researched trivia and behind the scenes facts about the movie. They also have a good sense of humor. Think of a refined moviegoers version of MST 3000

Dark Knight Bias
I like listening to these podcasts, but recently I went back to listen to the Dark Knight Rises and in it the hosts make some pretty unsavory statements about activism and in general try to compare BANE the villain to the occupy movement! They claim that “We get to see what would happen if the occupy movement people got what they wanted. Crazy Judging courts, mass murder, rape” For real that’s it for me. I am done listening to this, would really love an un-biased approach to a film reviews that doesn’t have the hosts pushing their limited voices of knowledge over a subject that they obviously are just angry about. Cya later Movie Review podcast.

Good job guys, just one thing.....
Ok, don't get me wrong, your podcasts are awesome. I mostly listen to the superhero/marval movie podcasts, and they are great. The only complaint I have is, please guys, tone it down on the language. I got five minutes into the reveiw for Avengers: age of Ultron, and I already heard sh**. In your earlier podcasts, you say sh** at least five times. Other than that, your podcasts are great. Just please take into consideration that you have alot of kids (I'm thirteen) listining to these podcasts. But overall, you guys are really funny and you bring up alot of good points that I would totally overlook. Again, great job guys.

Podcasting Rockstars!
I recommend you not listen to this podcast first because once you do all other podcasts will live in it's shadow. I have listened to some of these podcasts ten times they are so good. I rank podcasts off of three criteria 1. Interesting Material 2. Do I like the hosts 3. Production Value (Editing, Sound Quality, etc.) The first criteria is self explanatory ie. you either find the material interesting or you don't (which I love films so this is self evident here). A+ The second is also somewhat subjective because of things like the hosts voice, their type of humor, etc. I personally find Arnie, Stuart, and Jacob to be hilarious and laugh out loud often at their references and the way they no holds barred go after eachother. But you can objectively judge a hosts subject knowledge, ability to critically make judgements, and verbal gymnastics. They are a 10 in all three of these areas. A+ The production value is where this podcast really shines above the rest and will make listening to other podcasts difficult after listening to this one. Although in the beginning (Friday the 13th episodes) the production value sucked. They continue to improve and invest in their show to the point where now it's the best made show I've heard. The editing makes the pacing fantastic, the sound quality is second to none, and they don't just put it out if it's not done right. A+ Thanks guys, keep it up!

Fun Show, Engaging Hosts
The multiple hosts lead to shows that are consistent with engaging conversations on movies, that while all the hosts may not be fans of the genre, they each give a fair opinion of the movies they are reviewing. I’m a movie fan and agree with most of what they recommend but still love some of the movies they don’t.

These guys are not entertainers nor are they industry professionals. This is something a bunch of friends got together and starting doing years ago and honestly it's that closeness that makes the show so wonderful. There's an honesty to this show that I truly admire. Their dedication to creating high quality work EVERY week is truly astounding, seeing how they have no sponsors, and I honestly wish more podcasts took a hint from these guys. Haters, Too good for the Roomt already.
I tried listening to this podcast again for another shot. All it did was remind me of why I left. First off lets talk about spending the first 10 minutes begging for money. Give it a rest already. This is 3 guys that found a niche and are trying tocash in on it by suckering movie fans. Now lets talk about rating movies. Trust me. If you like it, they know a reason to hate it. None of them have the talent to direct or make a movie, yet talk like they have won oscar's. I cant believe there are actually suckers out there purchasing their "Memberships" Great pyramid scheme guys. That much you do know.

Not the best movie choices
When these guys review movies that are actually RELEVANT the show is pretty great! HOWEVER.... I take issue with their choices of movies. For the past couple months I've been disappointed that I have no good Now Playing episodes to enjoy. Why? Because they waste so much time (in my opinion) doing movies so irrelevant!! Fast and furious? No thank you. Children of the Corn, all ten million of them?? No way I'm listening to that. Who even watches last the first 2, much less listens to hours of rhetoric based on them?! Eight Robocop reviews?? Nope. Anyway, I really do like the show when it's a good movie pick. I like how they criticize lol. But come on, enough!!

This is an awesome podcast! So much fun! It's like going out for pizza with a bunch of friends and talking about the movie you just saw. They are funny and insightful, and you can sense the love of movies. The only down side is if they're doing a retrospective series you're not really interested in then it can be a while before they choose something more your speed. However, listen to it anyway. You might learn something new, and I guarantee you'll still have a fun trip. Great job!

One of my highlights of podcasts to listen to
I am not much of a horror fan as some of the hosts on the show are but I would say I like the reviews that you guys have given about these films I can understand the story without having the intense gore-factor upclose and on screen. I like the synopsis at the begining and the disscussion you guys have. I don't mind the donation drives for franchises that I love ( ie. POTA was nice I'll pay another few bucks for the next installment after Dawn). Your critics on this iTunes review are kinda harsh but everybody's entitled I guess and the bad reviews don't seem to hurt the podcast rating. I am a big Sci-Fi fan as well as a middle-aged follower of the recent Superheroes in film Renaissance. (I was barely 9 when I first saw Superman II and almost 16 when Burton's Batman came out. I loved those films as only a bright eyed boy with a boundless future could. Nowww I see the folly of some of my youth and look back at these films with your podcast with the eyes of one sobered and embittered man. (yet even then with fondness) I enjoy this podcast and hope it continues. Just discovered Books & Nachos and you'll be getting a great review there form me soon as well. One bit of advice and take it for what its worth. Imaginery children seems to border on something weird and a bit creepy. If you have a nephew or a younger sibling's kid to take on a viewing that would lend itself more credibility. Why not maybe getting a mini-review from kids with their parents just after watching the movie while fresh in their minds. There may be more than a few fans of the podcast with kids in your area that might be willing to help you out when you guys do a supposedly "Fun For All Ages" pic like Frozen. (please forget I mentioned Frozen. I have too many unresolved issues with that piece of animated subversive pablum for the pre-scholastic masses) In closing, I thank all of you at Venganza Media who make this show happen. A Strog Recommend!!!!

In depth through reviews
I think reviews are at their best when they inform you about certain aspects of a film that might have been overlooked or when a viewpoint is in stark contrast with your own. These reviews do that and more. The discussions are lengthy and cover each movie with a wide range thought provoking ideas. Having several reviewers per episode provides plenty of opinion that will challenge your original thoughts sometimes and support your ideas other times. There is plenty here to enjoy and recommend! Other quick reviews are often just looking for a sound bite that will pop up on a box cover but these guys really pick each film apart.
