This was always one of my most favorite podcasts over the last few years, but in mid August, NPR stopped posting new shows, and hasn't put up any new material in nearly two months. The problem is that despite the ability to let faithful listeners know the status of a broadcast - lord knows, with hundreds of NPR stations and at least 30 other podcasts still running, it's not like they don't have the ability to do so - they steadfastly refuse to let fans know what the hell is going on with the show. So allow me to use this post as an outlet for frustrated fans worldwide: HEY NPR - YOUR REFUSAL TO UPDATE THIS PODCAST AND/OR LET LISTENERS KNOW WHY YOU NO LONGER DO SO IS AMATEURISH AND BUSH LEAGUE. WHY DON'T YOU POST A SHORT, ONE MINUTE PODCAST TO LET FANS KNOW WHAT YOUR STATUS IS AND QUIT BEING A BUNCH OF STUPID ARROGANT D**KS.

It's great, but don't subscribe.

It's a spectacular podcast. A must listen! That said, this is the only podcast I have ever subscribed to that I unsubscribed from because of feed issues. Every 2 months, one episode is uploaded a couple of dozen times. There have been several occurrences of this. I don't have the storage on my laptop for this nonsense.

Great Podcast, but...

This is undoubtedly a massive podcast with some fabulous live music. But it would be nice if more than two of the of the "Featured Concerts" linked on the left were actually still available. Fortunately, the entire Tom Waits stream is available at the NPR website (and I suspect the others still are too), but 'featuring' something you don't have anymore? Did they need to make THAT much room for The Beatles on their servers?

A Ridiculous Amount of Really Good Live Music

This is just an awesome podcast series. There is just a ridiculous amount of good live music here. Granted, there is quite a bit here that just isn't "my cup of tea", but more often than not I've discovered musicians that I've never heard of...but will be sure to check out further. If you like singer-songwriters, bluegrass / "old" country, indy, blues, or anything outside of the usual Top 40 music then there has to be something here that you'll like. My biggest complaint? It's taking forever to go through it all. And, it won't all fit on my iPod. Other than that, it's been a blast going through everything.

Love the audio, u can keep the video.

I love the content and the full-lenth audio concerts, but I really, realy wish NPR would learn to separate audio-only podcast from video podcasts. I listen to podcasts while I'm driving in my car - can't really watch the video there. So for me, the video podcasts are massive, take forever to DL and take up a lot of space on my iPhone, short, and not something I'm particularly interested in. I realize other people may be interested in the video - but why not put them in 2 separate streams so someone can subscribe to one or the other or both?

Love the music selection

Bob Boylan is my hero. His musical choices are incredible. He clearly perscribes to no particular genre of music other than good. the live recordings themselves are also fairly impressive. The only bad thing i have to say is that there is clearly a reason NPR only does radio. The camera work for the videos is atrocious. Other than that Boylan has provided me with sweet recordings of some of my favorite bands and introduced me to many of my new favorites.

Brilliant

This podcast is worth the subscription if for NOTHING ELSE but the Tiny Desk Concerts. The Tiny Desk Concerts bring in fantastic artists to perform IN THE OFFICE of the All Songs team. The cramped space brings an insane level of intimacy to the artists performance and many times brings some interesting insight into their songs. The performances are short but always unique and many artists thrive in the odd setting of the nearly cubicle office space.

A mixed bag

If you are getting a show from a band you like, it is AWESOME! If it is a band you know you don't like, eh, not so much. If it is a band you have never heard of before, it may be a revelation. Or it may be, eh, not so much. My biggest complaint is that this is the only podcast to which I subscibe that posts videos in a format my iPod can't play. It takes longer to download the video than to watch it, and it takes longer to convert to a format my iPod can play than it does to download. So unless I am already familiar with the artist, I just skip the videos.

The best deal in not just iTunes, but the whole music world...

Just for a sample, get the free Radiohead concert. I believe it to be one of the best deals in the iTunes store so much, I could swear by it, not to mention the other concerts. Just get it for the exceptional live version of "Optimistic". Have listened to the Metric, Black Keys and Raconteurs concerts, and want more. If you're listening iTunes, Silversun Pickups and Muse would be nice additions.

!!!!!!!!

This is great! A hundred excellent live shows that I can listen to whenever I want! The range of these shows is amazing, and the sound quality is awesome. Problem is, anytime you fast-forward or listen to a different song on an ipod, it brings you back to the start. You can press pause and play, but anything else will restart the podcast! What the heck? Fix this and this will be a six star review, but right now it's just really frustrating!

Fantastic

All songs considered is THE place to find new music. Bob Boilen and co. do such an incredible job of bringing new music to a society where corporate noise pollution is force fed down our throats. More importantly, ASC give music the perspective necessary to be truly appreciated. Whether it's from an artists interview or Bob's own interpretation, ASC will change the way you find, listen to and appreciate music. Live concerts is incredible. Take the best bands around today, record a smaller, intimate concert and podcast it for free. I can only imagine how gratifying these podcasts are to the artists themselves. I have spent hundreds of dollars on concert tickets as a direct result of hearing these. In short, Live Concerts and All Songs Considered have made me a NPR fan for life and are the primary medium for finding great new music. Thanks.

What a vault!

NPR really gets it don't they. I constantly find myself tuning in, be it radio or these podcasts, to bring some prospective to this world. Bob Boilen really seems to approach these particular podcasts with reverance and exuberance. Great Job all! Great concept, HORRIBLE sound quality

I LOVE NRP!!! I'm just wondering how the sound techs were able to bring an olympic sized swimming pool to each of these concerts.. and why in the world they would choose to record all of this great content under 12 feet of water? The idea is so unique, I jumped at the chance to get this for my ipod. I got in my car, plugged in the pod and was all set for an amazing sound experience.. WOW was I wrong! PLEASE fix this! Plug into the board, use better microphones, whatever.. I downloaded 4 concerts and the sound is terrible on each of them. My car stereo couldn't make these concerts pop, I also tried my home stereo (Onkyo603) and the sound is really sub-par. The concept is great, the sound quality... well, I already wrote about that in the title

Well worth subscribing to. The quality and diversity of concerts will make this podcast a regular treat and worth saving on that hard drive.

NPR is awesome for having these live concerts for download!

Check out the Neko Case concert if you are going to listen to any of these, it is a gem. She is a wonderful musician and is a lot of fun to listen to. There is not a bad song in the whole hour and a half long concert. If you are a Neko fan, you'll love this, and if you've never heard of her, you need to give this a listen!

National Public Radio

This is just another reason why we should all support NPR. I love NPR. Every time I sit down to eat I listen along with "All Things Considered" and "Talk of the Nation". Of course "All Songs Considered" is a different kind of treat. Bob Boilen rocks!

Amazing Awesomeness

I was amazed when I saw that they were offering some of these great concerts for FREE!!!! FREE. Might I reiterate FREEEEE!!!! Yes, this has to be one of the best podcasts out there. I highly recommend subscribing. And if you are thinking twice about downloading a concert or two, FREE. The Josh Ritter concert is particularly good.

Who Knew?!?!

WOW!!! What an amazing lineup of talented indie artists!!! Be sure to give a listen to the Andrew Bird and Josh Ritter concerts. Also, I am not particularly fond of bluegrass music but Nickle Creek blew me away!!! I mean I could not believe my ears when listening to the guy on the mandolin tear up a solo at around the 30 minute mark, not to mention the guitar, the fiddle, and the harmony between the female and male vocals.... I think I like bluegrass now!!!

Cool but...

The First Real Podcast.

stupendous podcast orgy of excess

Another stupendous podcast orgy of excess! At first I downloaded the ones I didn't already have from the All Songs Considered podcasts, but it seemed maybe these now are offered in better fidelity than before. Getting them all--greedily--now I will have them all in one place, even if thirteen (by my count) are redundant from what I already had. When I will ever be able to listen to nearly three days' worth of music who knows, but it is nice to have a chance to try to find out. Nor would it be so great if the artists represented weren't all ones someone might care to listen to. Hearing music in a live setting that one has heard on CD is a nice bonus for having bought the CD in the first place. And the unfamiliar artists might be worth a listen to as well for this price of admission. Hugely recommended!
