One of my current favs
I very much enjoy and appreciate the time he takes to talk about morale and the time he takes to honor the victims. He makes sure we see them and not just the criminal and i think that’s very important. I also very much enjoy the range of topics he talks about.

Its a good podcast except for when they get into weirdo topics like ufos and cryptids? Like bro come on lol we dont want to listen to big foot theories and also I dont like the new cohost he talks to much about topics that take away from the story. We dont need explanation or questions about everything. Just let him tell the story. and it seems like hes forcing his voice to sound like batman.

One of my favs!
The research done is great for each story. We get the info and get to hear parts of the event that is being talked about. They also ALWAYS focus on the victims. The Columbine and Aurora shooting victims were each spoke about to honor them. It was very well done!

Great way to spend a day!
I have recently started listening a lot more to podcast and came across yours. I love it! Thank you for showing love to the Native America. Community, that’s much appreciated! Might I suggest that you try to have Native American guests who can talk about scary stories or just talk about their heritage and what they believe in their culture. I think that would help a lot more people understand there are different kinds of natives. 👍🏼 Keep up the great work and being open minded.

Love this podcast! I just listened to 102 legend of the jersey devil at the end y’all were talking about conspiracy theories and things that the government does and y’all brought up stranger things, and if that really happened well it did in New York during the Cold War it’s called project Montauk they abducted kids and they did experiments on them and they opened portals to other worlds. Allegedly conducted on the east end of Long Island during the Cold War, Project Montauk was a secret military experiment to develop psychological warfare with abducted children.

This podcast follows a familiar formula of true crime and lore. The audio quality is high, but the content value is extremely low. Nearly all of the episodes cover topics that have already been EXTENSIVELY documented. If you’ve heard a true crime killer covered in 80+ other podcasts, chances are these guys have heard those 80 episodes as well, and now they’ve decided to create their own episode! Unnecessary. Unoriginal, and Unnoying. Lastly, they’ll plug their **HIGHER LOVE** Merch Shop until your ears bleed. Seems like this podcast exists to create a forum for the hosts to sell you CBD oil during the commercial breaks. They just did a Ted Bundy episode. Oof! if I had a nickel for every dime-a-dozen True Crime podcast that covered Ted Bundy… 🤦♂️

Note added to top ; So it turns out Josh doesn’t always do the commercials himself . That’s fine , I can ignore . Also turns out there are tons of paranormal episodes . Fine also, I can skip those . Also turns out he has a cohost on some episodes who’s voice is louder and less pleasant . Fine too, I’ll skip those . But due to all this , I won’t be paying to become a patrion after all . I’ve written many reviews for crime podcasts , but it’s so difficult to find a Good one . Finally found a fantastic one ! GREAT GREAT soothing voice , gets Right to the point . No faux “witty banter” between hosts . No loud jarring sound fx . Just straight up awesome story telling with excellent research done . I’m also Very pleased that the host reads his own sponsored commercials . Since he has such a calming voice , I don’t fast forward through them. That’s a first ! I’ll probably become a patrion member if all the episodes are this good !

The roller coaster disaster episode is my favorite by far. When you are alone you tell the stories great but too much chatter when your brother was around and sorry but kinda uninterested after so much chatter.

Good… but
Though I like podcasts some facts aren’t always right. These guys love to bash cops and other professions and talk like they know what they’d do in certain dangerous situations which is laughable I doubt they have been in war or been in a situation of being shot at I would love these guys to join the military or be a cop and let’s see how they do at the job while we comment on what they did wrong. It shows ignorance and arrogance in their part

Decent ghost stories
If you like ghost stories and true crime it’s a good podcast. Their facts aren’t always right. For instance, in the New Jersey devil episode they say that it hides in a wooded area of New Jersey that covers 1 million square miles. But all of New Jersey is only about 8,000 square miles. But it’s still entertaining

You can really tell that the host reads a script for the majority of the podcast in a softer voice than Ekhart Tolle himself… make it more conversational, memorize the stories, and have more vocal range when you speak? Creepy and Interesting!
I have been listening to the Lights Out podcast for the last few weeks via You Tube and I had to come show my support via streaming services. Not only are the stories incredibly creepy and sometimes horrific, they really are interesting and you can tell how much research goes into each and every podcast. I especially like that Josh reads these stories with the most calming and soothing voice. Some podcasts really go over the top trying to make their voice sound creepy and it really comes off cringy. Josh has an excellent podcast voice; he should do a Lights Out “Bedtime Stories” edition and read not creepy bedtime stories to sooth adults to sleep. Not saying I fall asleep to Lights Out, but getting through some of the more terrifying stories is less scary with such a chill voice telling the story. Thanks also for all the work “Broducer” Joel does putting together the videos you do an excellent job! Keep up the great work, I’m defiantly going to branch out to the other show’s related to these podcasters!

More ambitious in advertising than content
You won’t find much of their subjects not already covered by other podcasts in greater detail. What you will find is obnoxious ads for the host's "companies" which seem to be a new one weekly. The delivery is boring, the sound is okay, and the personality is next to non existent. It’s a shame these guys care more about money than having a podcast that’s entertaining. Boooooo

Gave it a listen and I love it
I’ve been listening to Josh’s other podcast Mile Higher for a while, and I’ve slept on this one up until recently. Listening to this podcast gives me creepy, cozy, sit around the campfire for a scary story vibes. Love the ambiance of the studio, the background music, and Josh’s soothing voice. The topics are a little heavier than what I’m used to, but they’re still interesting and worth a listen. I love that paranormal/spooky episodes are thrown in as well, because sometimes I need a break from listening to stories about gruesome murders. Keep up the great work, and I hope the podcast can continue on.

Been listening a few years, too many ads tho.
First off I love the podcast. But after a few years, the ads are too much. Don’t get me wrong, I know he’s just trying to make a living so I’m not judging. But there are WAY TOO MANY ADS. I believe two minutes worth of it. Probably longer tbh. It would be nice to distinguish when an ad starts and ends with a sound or someone else talking. But he does them all. It’s causing me to leave the podcast all together.

I detail cars and I got tired of listening to music. I’ve been a huge fan of Kendal Rae for years and that’s how I found this podcast! My Favorite
I listen to all three podcasts and don’t get me wrong I love them all. But the atmosphere of Lights out is by far the best! There’s no interrupting of each other, the commentary from both brothers actually sounds thought out and the whole show seems very well put together. I like the content of Mile Higher but I definitely have this set as my Go-To. Thank you for your hard work ! - I love the brother Team and I’m very sad that it’s no longer, but Lights out is always the highlight of my Fridays and that will never change. ❤️

The BEST Podcast
By far my favorite podcast! I mostly watch on YouTube, but stream the podcast on my phone occasionally. The podcast is awesome, but 11/10 recommend watching the YouTube videos too. So fun watching Josh & Joel interact, as well as the pictures & videos within each episode. I love that the episodes are long but they don’t drag on, and they stay entertaining the whole time! Josh & Joel provide lots of info along with their commentary, the guys really do their research and put lots of effort into each episode. Plus every episode is different, they range from paranormal activity to true crime to creepy folklore and beyond. These guys are the best!!

my absolute favorite :)
i work in a money vault where we can’t have our phones for security reasons. i listen to this podcast literally throughout my entire shift EVERY DAY because it keeps me alert & interested. never a dull moment with josh & joel!! i started off listening to mile higher with kendall & josh then found out josh has his own little side podcast. after my first listen i was instantly intrigued. it is a lot more gruesome than mile higher but it’s a weird fascination with gory details most people have. i also like how they implement both true crime and paranormal content. sometimes i even listen to the same episode two or three times just because how well josh tells the story. i’ve only been listening for a couple months but it’s safe to say you have a loyal listener :) thanks guys!!

Coz you asked :) the true crimes are my fav and I’m glad after watching all of Kendall’s videos I can watch these now ! I know you guys spend many hours already but if u can add more of a psychological profile to your cases I guess more detailed and specific, like connect people to the behaviors observed and possible diagnosis to that behavior. Or add a preliminary assessment, how would u assess for disorders or mental instability? I suppose that’s the last part missing lol I study these cases with a psychological and philosophical point of view. I’m on Sons of Sam now, hopefully part 2 is all I need ! Thanks for the hard work and efforts put into the channels, I greatly appreciate it. I finally found a podcast I never get tired of and I feel like I can finally watch “TV” again, like back in the 90’s when watching Tv w/ the fam was a fun experience! Lol Too bad my boyfriend is like Kendall, he may hear me talking about the cases but won’t watch any scary nothing !!! Great Oklahoma History
I am a new listener and love the episode on Oklahoma! I grew up there, and there are so many spooky stories about places around the state. This was a well-informed and interesting episode that had details I didn’t even know. If you ever do a part 2, check out the urban legend of the house on Carey Place in OKC… or is it just an urban legend???

I’m always eager for new episodes! You both do a great job overall. The tone of the show is carried throughout, I even like how you do your “ad breaks” (a shout out to start, the rest throughout). I really like the more “story-telling” format of this podcast, and how at the END you both give your thoughts and have a wrap up convo about whatever story you’ve told, and the questions you guys pose to each other. One piece of feedback I have is, maybe do a read through of the story beforehand, to help with unfamiliar words, and for a better overall pace to the story telling. Love the show, keep up the great work, I’m excited to see how this podcast grows and morphs into something even spookier!

I love all of the content that comes from kendall and josh and lights out is not an exception to that. they are so informative and descriptive in a way that is captivating. to anyone reading the reviews, 99% of the bad ones are from overly sensitive people because nothing about this show is offensive in any way unless you have 3 functioning brain cells. i was looking for some of the bad reviews to laugh at how stupid they were (which I did) but I was also shocked at how truly closed minded and frankly annoying some people are. anyways I think this is one of the best paranormal podcasts out there! i’d definitely recommend it

Fan from the Mile Higher podcast
I’m a huge fan of the Mile Higher podcast but I always wished they covered paranormal topics more often. This is exactly what I was looking for. The hosts have really calming voices so it’s easy to listen to while working. You can tell they put a lot of time and research into each episode. I always listen to the episodes once to actually hear the story, but it’s also great to put on in the background while I study.

i like it…but
as a christian i found some of their remarks with the psychic offensive. i had to turn it off when they said they themselves are god. i enjoy cases involving ghosts. i, unlike the narrator, chose to be a christian as opposed to being indoctrinated in it at birth. i can understand his contempt as many of the decisions some people make in the name of God are questionable……BUT…. i feel like every episode their christian background gets brought up. i’m not sure why. anyways, the comment about being a god in this world was pretty shocking to me and I had to turn it off. pretty shocking take on life.

Is this a audiobook or a podcast?
Feeling like I’m listening to a audiobook. There’s rarely any other series of audio voices I hear but just the host. There’s no (oh wow) parts or any reaction in his voices so he’s just reading off what he typed up like a audiobook. Sounds like a great story and all but the format of telling the story makes it hard for me to keep listening.

I am a fan of paranormal and true crime podcasts, so I was excited to find this podcast. The topics go beyond your standard fare and episodes are generally well researched. Unfortunately, the host’s cadence and weirdly timed pauses (apparent even at 1.5x) take me out of being able to enjoy the show.

Darkness is no light
I picked up on this podcast early on. I remember listening and enjoying the monotone restatement of mostly supernatural tales. Some cruel history. A bit of occultism and sometimes a true crime story. Now. Just seems mostly true crime. I think there is plenty of true crime out there. I guess Lights Out tries to make itself different from the others by telling the cases violent acts in the upmost detail. If you like slasher film. Then this is a real life script read calmly for your listening pleasure. Like most horror this cast lacks depth. But I really don’t know much about violence for entertainment. I still listen though. I will say. Lights Out is sometimes a too intense experience for myself and I find that I must sometimes stop or skip episodes so as to come up for air. That is what makes it good in its own way. I hope one day I will no longer need to listen to these kinds of things. Out of respect of those who really do live in the dark.

I’ve only listened to two of you episodes. Ed Gein first then the Jeffrey Dahmer. I won’t be listening to anymore. Not because I don’t find the content interesting but because of your judgmental and nasty description of Christian’s. That was the most disgusting part of the whole episode for me. Talk about judgmental and hypocritical….you need to take a long look in mirror. I prefer listening to the stories and info not someones crooked opinions and annoyingly dumb comments.

Favorite True Crime Podcast!!
I cannot say enough good things about the Mile Higher team!! I began listening to Mile Higher and more recently dove into Lights Out. The choice of stories they cover is *chefs kiss* and the format of the stories captures you from the beginning. Their podcasts are truly and genuinely unbiased. Josh and Joe (as well as Kendall and Janelle on mile higher) bring so many different thoughts and ideas to the table, opening your own mind to other possibilities and perspectives to cases and events they cover. I enjoyed your Son of Sam episodes since I’m really into that case. You do present topics well. I’d like to also comment on your haunted smoke alarms story. Smoke alarms that are wired together are very sensitive. If one sensor gets dust on it and goes off, they all go off. It’s important to clean smoke alarms with a vacuum at least once a year because of the dirty sensor issue. Same is true with an alarm with a low battery…they will go off. Your smoke alarms aren’t haunted.

A podcast read from a Wiki Script
I was told about this podcast from a co-worker. I was excited about it because all of the topics they cover are interests of mine, but after listening to numerous episodes it just feels like they are reading off Wikipedia. Mono tone(que corny sound effects and music), the hosts often are side tracked by their own conversations and the ads are usually the first 10-15 minutes of an episode. It’s quite unfortunate because it sounded like it would’ve been a great, but ultimately falls extremely short.

Many people who share stories online are very careful to be respectful, which can be hard to do sometimes. While not everyone does this, there is a fine line when people do dare to travel onto lesser known grounds of lore and fandom and backstories. This podcast tells, in my opinion, the real story behind the darkness of life that has ensued. It is refreshing in many ways, but the topics can be heavy so it’s a once a week kind of thing for a reason. Sometimes once a month if I listen to too much other true crime lol

Do your research
I’ve listened to a few episodes now and I had to stop. Josh clearly hasn’t done his research before speaking. One episode he commented on why hadn’t law enforcement collect DNA to catch the killer in the 70s. DNA wasn’t introduced into forensics until the late 80s. Research before you speak. You lost all credibility. You’d learn more from reading books. I’d give zero stars if I could. Don’t wait your time.

I came across Lights Out a few months ago in search of some good true crime (and more) podcasts and I’m hooked. I listen at work, in my car, while I’m cleaning, and basically whenever I have some downtime. I recently got my boyfriend to start listening and he enjoys this podcast almost as much as I do! The only thing we can’t agree on is the order of listening lol, I tend to listen in chronological order and he spices it up by listening to random episodes in no specific order. One good thing about this podcast is that it doesn’t matter whichever order you listen in, each episode is different and interesting. 10/10 would recommend:)

Lack of information and time
This podcast is very good at covering haunting s and paranormal but in true crime thats a whole other thing. He barely gives out any information on the case and even the ad breaks has more information on the product than the actual cases. Points out the obvious and it feels like he only covers them for 25 minutes. This podcast is better at paranormal and should stick to it.

No other criminal podcasts compare to that of Lights Out... I’ve been a supporter of Mile Higher as well as Lights out & I can confidently say that no other podcast is as excellent as this one. (Of course aside from Mile Higher itself) 😭. I love how eloquently you speak about the cases & five deeply into the details of it all. I find it difficult to listen to other podcasters within the same genre because they don’t do things the same way & of course every podcast is unique in their own wa, yet yours is so professional it makes it hard to listen to others without missing Lights Out. My boyfriend & I listen to this podcast consistently because of how great it is. Keep up the good work!

Think of what you are saying! The root of all violence is violence Bro. You just can’t have the state torturing and issuing out retribution to the ones that YOU decide deserve it but not others. Either it does or does not. The role of the state is to protect the rest of us. No “retribution” or punishment is going to undo the horror that those folks did. There is no justice for that. Working a 2-10:30am shift as a maintenance tech, I often get to work alone. Could be on the roof or or other isolated locations and often find myself looking over my should lately, lol. I love how they stay on topic and don’t take us on a detour of how this case, reminds them of the time they went to Walmart for a loaf of bread and it was super crazy, and the bread was really good, and we should go on a Walmart run together sometime and get the same bread. Here’s an ad break before we get back to the rest of the case. Highly recommend them for their professionalism, soothing, clear voices for my fellow APD peeps out there, and super interesting topics.

I live in easton ct very close to union cemetary moved here 4 years ago, I loved your episode on it. One of the creepiest parts of the cemetary is the hedges of poison ivy that surround it that alone has kept me from entering the cemetary though I walk/drive by all the time. Its certainly haunted.

Great podcast! Especially the earlier ones. They pick great topics, stories, crazy murderers etc. However, I have found that during some stories, the script is a little too storytelling-like, almost like when telling a child a story. Maybe some like that, but I prefer just describing what happened in their own words and additional comments. Overall, love them though.

Can’t improve upon greatness
You frequently say how you’re always looking for feedback on how to improve the show… you can’t. It’s already so great!! I love listening to you guys!! I love the way Josh tells a story. From each specifically chosen word to the flow and tone- he has a gift for story telling. I also love the way these two interact and converse- stellar duo!! I used to think podcasts were just for like news/talk show type stuff, The Lights Out Podcast was one of the first shows that I listened to and actually enjoyed. Oddly Relaxing and Intriguing

I really tried to push through the first few episodes hoping they got better since the podcast has great reviews, but the narration and the comments from the hosts are unbearable. Listen while charting at work
I’m a medsurg RN and I love patient care, but hate charting for hours. I have over the past few months binged all the episodes of this podcast at work. The narration is perfect. It’s calming, but also entertaining and holds my attention. I work nights and I usually listen to an episode a night while charting on the computer. I have also started everyplate and care/of because of these podcasts and highly recommend. I’ve also been a fan of Highline wellness. The CBD gummies with melatonin help me sleep during the day in between shifts. Dudes seem really down to earth and I really enjoy this podcast. I’m not a huge podcast person, because normally the narration is too try hard and gets annoying, but this podcast is like chatting with friends, just very comfortable. Anyway keep it up, I adore you homies.

The Lights Out Podcast Is Life!
I find all things supernatural and a bit morbid interesting and this podcast has it all! Serial Killers, Cults, UFOs, Parnormal Activity, Demonic Possession, Interesting Dark Characters and etc. As an online college student and the primary caretaker of my mother. My day can be pretty hectic and stressful. This podcast have been my go to when I need to shift my focus and get things done. Now I have a weird little routine where I would listen while I’m doing something and can’t watch tv. Then I’ll watch on YouTube to see the amazing graphics that just amplifys the experience. Some Suggsstions: I would really love some longer podcast. I would also like to see more of the haunting, paranormal, and witchy type stuff. I love the way josh tells stories, he is calm and makes it very easy and interesting to listen to. A lot of people who podcast go from talking quietly to yelling and I find that really difficult to enjoy, unlike this podcast where he keeps control of his voice and tells stories in a way that really makes sense. Definitely one of my favorite!

Phenomenal show
I LOVE Lights Out! Wide variety of interesting topics, very thoughtfully put together and presented. Josh has such a calming voice, and I love the interaction between him and his bro-ducer 😂 I found the show after being a follower of his wife’s show first, then Mile Higher. This and Mile Higher are literally my favorite podcasts. Every episode is intriguing and entertaining! Josh has the most soothing voice which I know everyone loves. Fridays are honestly my favorite day of the week because of a new episode of Lights Out. Perfect for long drives or just doing stuff at work it’s literally the best podcast in my opinion. The range of different types of stories they choose is great. But after listening since the podcast started and especially after listening to episode 24, it’s pretty apparent that the research could be stronger. It’s a relatively known fact that the madame delphine lalaurie portrayal in American horror story was HIGHLY dramatized but it was mentioned in podcast episode 24 as if it was accurate and the horrific scenes shown were factual; they’re not. I don’t know if they used biased or non-credible sources but not everything’s entirely accurate. I would stick to watching documentaries or reading novels from people who are educated on the topics your discussing and not just some random articles that can barely be trusted. Or you need to disclose that the information is alleged. Also: site your sources. Update: Yea the ignorance really got to me and I can’t listen anymore. Saying horror fans have mental problems (ep 49) when you guys talk about and research REAL LIFE graphic shootings and torture? Really?? A bit hypocritical. Maybe rethink some of the things you say before leaving it in the final audio.

I love lights out so much
I love this podcast and josh / Joel are a killer duo :) I am constantly amazed at how they are able to tackle the most horrifying cases and handle it with such grace and compassion, it is so relieving to know what true, genuine men think of these cases and not hear them victim shaming or anything like that. They are stand up guys and it’s nice to see them educate without being shock jock podcasters about it or seem like their are entertained by the horror, but instead affected by it on such a deep level, not just desensitized like a lot of other true crime people are about things. Love them to bits and love like higher as well! Have listened to every episode of both and cannot wait to see what they bring next week!! Great topics, presentation is terrible. These guys are obviously satanists, they bash Christianity constantly. They make excuses for devil worshippers who commit crimes, but not Christians. They can’t pronounce names correctly, they read in monotone, and I can’t even tell when they’re reading an ad. It sounds exactly the same as the show. Well, I guess everyone’s entitled to an opinion, even if it’s wrong. Terrible show. Also, do some research on pronunciation, it’s Al-Gone-quin, not Al-gun-quin. My god. Al-a-gain-EE not A-lay-guh-knee. Also, it’s A-ileen not I-ileen. Do some research before you record

Great, but not perfect
I love the podcast, but I have a few complaints, all things that others have already pointed out. 1: Monotone voice Josh tends to give the facts in a monotone, almost ASMR voice. Kinda makes it boring. 2: Pronunciations Josh should also look into pronunciations, especially when it comes to places. How hard is it to look up an online dictionary (or even Google Translate) and listen to the pronunciation?

The plague episode
How can you compare the plague with the mortality rate of 80 to 90% with the Covid pandemic that has a survival rate of 99%? If this was anything like the plague people would be lining up for a vaccine and wearing masks.How can you tell us to listen to the professionals when they change everything every five minutes and they don’t even take them self seriously. This episode that WAS interesting ended as a complete joke.

I have been following this podcast since they first started with only MHP. And although I don’t agree with their views on satanism and such religions, I do appreciate how in depth they go with their research. Even though I have heard the case 50+ times before, I am always excited to hear it from them, because most always they end up surprising me with small details or facts that I didn’t know about the case! Not to mention they are super down to earth and just an all around awesome bunch!💕 And Josh and Kendall’s voices are like buttah 🧈 lol

Great mix in style of shows
Love the podcast. They sure keep it interesting and live how it is mixed up between crime and paranormal. The host are complete idiots though. Especially when they talk about prisoners. They want prisoners to be outside in a tent because that will rehabilitate those prisoner. The point of closed prison and high walls and no windows is so prison is uncomfortable. You make an environment so no one wants to go back to prison and commit more crimes. If you make prison comfortable and very nice. People will commit the same crime they enjoy to commit because they will say “ prison is great, they put us outside and I get to enjoy the weather.”…..seriously! How do people think like that. Crime is bad so people who do it should feel the repercussions and not enjoy it so they don’t commit the crimes again.

Josh's voice is so soothing that when he is delivering the most heinous details, crimes or creepiest paranormal account that although it's creepy or scary as heck, he makes you feel safe and then there is Joel who does such a great job. The only critique I would have is that you could have Joel speak more I would like to hear more of his insight as well, Like we do on the mile higher podcast. You guys are the greatest!

The Best Podcast Ever
Podcasts have never really been my thing. I usually like videos instead so I can get a more visual picture. This podcast however… it blows all of them out of the water! I have been watching his wife Kendall Rae for years and figured I’d give both Mile Higher and Lights Out podcasts a try a couple weeks ago, and I have found my absolute new favorites. I love to listen to them at work while I’m doing paperwork or when I’m driving. Not to mention I love how much information that is provided and packed into each video. I would love to see you all cover the infamous haunting of Bobby Mackey’s Music World in Wilder, KY and the strange and bizarre disappearance of Brookelyn Farthing from Berea, KY in the near future.
