Episode 354: This episode is great! I purchased the audio book NEVER SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE on Wednesday before I had completed the podcast. I finished the podcast on Thursday and only have 45 minutes left in the book before I start it again. I will also be purchasing the paperback to have a hard copy. Thank You Jocko!

Seems to have changed quite a bit but still good.
the first 100 or so episodes were great having guests on about their experience in war and covering atrocities from books. Now it seems more just about “leadership”. Every once in awhile they have a good episode still.

Great Insights
Jocko has great insights on life and displays the self control instilled by his upbringing in all facets of life that he shared on the podcast. #353 was my least fav episode. The guest had a serious case of “I” disease. No wonder he’s looking at a career in politics!

Thank you for your service. First off. I am just a patriot. Not able to join third are beautiful and a great nation. It was due to medical reasons. I do wish it was different, but that is the way the cookie crumbles for me. Been listening to you for quite some time now. This is my first review. All I feel like I can say is thank you and please continue. Also just ordered me a case of the goat energy mango to be exact thank you Echo for hyping it up more and more. Looking forward to continuing to hear the stories of our men and women of service. Us as civilians do own our service men and women everything.

I’m really grateful for you guys!
I’m 27 years old and I have struggled with heroine and meth addiction since I was a teenager. I have some diagnosed mental illness and these two things have made my life very difficult. I’ve been clean for almost 3 years now. I heard Jocko for the first time a few years ago and my first thought was I could never be that disciplined. However over the last few years I have been growing a lot thanks to you and your understanding of self discipline and simple and profound practical wisdom through experience! I’m married now and my wife and I have a beautiful baby boy that’s 1 and half. I’m still a work in progress and I fall short a lot, but I get up and get back on the path! Thank you for your service and for sharing yourself and your hard earned wisdom, it’s definitely helped me become more of the man I want to be and I’m just getting started!

Not A Ranger, Just a Door Kicker
Watching Jaco review Saving Private Ryan is like watching a middle schooler get to the bus stop with his lunch money. Army Rangers and Army Special Operators don’t write books, share classified information with Call to Duty and EA video games or train Chinese Special Forces like Erik Prince currently does. After losing 2 entire Navy Seal teams in Panama - we trained SEALS at Ranger School. They lacked knowledge of security, sectors of fire, indirect fires, digging fighting positions for crew served weapons support by individual weapons and provided coverage of dead space. (Hopping around in black outfits with MP-5s doesn’t make a battlefield warrior) In the Korangal Valley and Operation Red Wing these guys landed helicopters on “the objective” instead of taking the hard right of “humping” to the objective, they took unnecessary risks and took the lives of those trying to rescue them. (In the Korangal they cried like babies over an open net for food- whereas Delta just walked 10 klicks to the 10th Mountain for their food. Learn interlocking fields of fire, preparation of fighting positions, coordination of fires, securing flanks, how to march to the objective and stop writing books. Oh Yea - stop trying to be “The Lone Survivor” - if you can’t live by the Ranger Creed - don’t copy it.

Binge listening
I haven’t stopped listening since I found this podcast. I listen a majority of the day while I’m working. Everything on this show is “actionable intel” and this generation for sure could use the principles taught here and learn to exude the same gratitude and appreciation you two have for our country, it’s founding principles, and the service men and women who sacrificed to make it possible! Thanks for all you do! Keep it up! God bless, Jake Marshall. P.S. I just found the episode about Crazy Horse. The author Joseph Marshall lll is my uncle. I absolutely love that a Lakota is getting perspective gets the publicity it deserves! Thank you!

Finally…
I started downloading this podcast just ahead of Covid, and never got to it until this month. Episodes are too long, I told myself. Excuses are gone now. I’m years behind but I’m starting from the beginning and consuming it all. Consumed in total or in short bits, the uncommon common sense (one of Jocko’s superpowers) and the call to action (not just listen) is what I’ve needed for a long time. Bravo, gents, and thank you for your service to protect freedom.

Jocko is Lee Marvin
Take a look at Lee Marvin’s photo as an 18 year-old Marine bound for the Pacific Theatre where he was a scout-sniper on Saipan. Wounded and decorated. Marvin said that his acting career was because “…the Marine Corps taught me how to act.” And the young Marvin looks almost identical to a young Willink.

Life Changing!
I recently discovered podcasts at the tender age of 61. I've always been driven. I started a successful business at 25 years old after working in my industry for 5 years (no college). I’m now a national speaker in my industry. I started weight lifting at the same time after becoming obsessed with fitness and nutrition at age 12 (lost 18 lbs at that time). Taught fitness classes on top of my career. The point being it's hard to put a lid on one's ego when you’ve always been getting after it. Jocko made me realize my ego has prevented both personal and professional progress. My knowledge on fitness and nutrition pretty much stopped when I felt like I knew it all (about when Paleo first came on the scene). I've been complacent in my workouts for years because I don't have weight loss goals. I love working really late and getting up really late with 8-9 hours of sleep. A host of things that have kept me stagnant. Things that are in my control. Then a series of events happened to my health (stemming from mold) that put me down a lifestyle podcast rabbit hole that brought me to Jocko (thanks Mikhaila). Jocko’s the one. The one I need to challenge me to question everything in my life. To remind me soft I’ve gotten. I literally cancelled cable, stop reading romance novels (don’t judge), go to bed earlier/get up earlier with less sleep, hit the gym (or fitness room) on days I would normally skip (sometimes), prioritize and execute tasks after being a master procrastinator and have a ‘get after it’ attitude. This is after 3 weeks of listening., imagine what will happen when I get caught up! I’m sure he is not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you have even a modicum of toughness in your soul, even if it’s laying dormant, Jocko will bring it to life. Now prioritize and listen to this podcast.

Deadlifting
Started listening to JOCKO years ago and immediately grew 6 inches (both down there and up here). I bought the JOCKO WHITE TEA from the JOCKO STORE and got my testosterone tested the next day only to find that my T and DHT levels were literally off the charts. They wanted to test my blood but when inserting the needle into my arm it simply broke in half. I went home and drank another cup of JOCKO WHITE TEA and was feeling wild so I shotgunned a JOCKO GO HEALTHY ENERGY DRINK too. Went to the gym and had to take every plate from every rack in order to max out my deadlift. 9000 pounds can you believe that? As I walked out of the gym 3 girls had to be rushed to the ER after making eye contact with me. GO get some JOCKO WHITE TEA. RESULTS ARE GUARANTEED.

What this country needs to hear
Jocko, aside from being an incredible motivator and source of inspiration, connects me to the things my grandfathers and uncles experienced in war. Descriptions and readings of books from WWII, Vietnam and Korea, give me a sense and an idea of what my family members went through that they couldn’t fully explain. It’s depended my love for them. Thank you.

The Uvalde Tactical Response episode was enlightening
So I’m not a Jocko fanboy. I’m not interested in most of his business and leadership lessons. But I was curious to hear this thoughts on the Uvalde school shooting. I have a lot of respect for his expertise and wisdom when it come to tactical response, training and security. If you think “we must do something” I suggest listening to this episode. One “something” to be done becomes quite obvious, pragmatic and essential. Jocko delivered on this.

DEF changed my life.
Jocko, I want to thank you for all of the insightful words that you have put out into the public. I am the younger sibling of an abusive narcissistic older brother with emotionally unavailable parents. I'm really only coming around to this conclusion at the age of 37. I have faced many of the problems that someone like that would face; depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, substance abuse, and dismissive avoidant attachment style. I found your podcast in 2018 but the truth is that I have been looking for it my whole life. You gave me the frame work and principles to build myself into the person that I am today. I have lost over 85 lbs, I work out and train jiu-jitsu religiously, my diet is a balance of discipline and freedom, that you probably wouldn't approve of, but I'm ok with that. Your podcast, WWK books that I read to my daughters, and DEF field manuals have pulled me out of countless dark holes, and will continue to do so in the future. I'm pulling myself out of one right now. I just wanted to share that with you and thank you for all that you have shared with me.

Suggestion
I absolutely love the JACKO Podcast. As I’m listening to the excerpt from the underground, as one of the “normal guys”, it would be incredible to get JP Dinnell back on to have him give his recent testimony and dive deep about his refocused walk with Christ. For me personally, it would be remarkable to hear the story and perspective from him to share about how that has impacted his life. I’m sure some of the guys could care less but I think the impact could be more beneficial to guys like me. Just a suggestion for new content.

Book suggestion/fiction
The ignorant will ridicule me for this but hear me out. Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein. The movie made of this Classic was a criminal travesty and those responsible will have to live with that burden. Heinlein himself was a Naval Academy graduate who’s career was cut short by ill health. The water is deeper here than most would suspect. Even if you don’t cover it you should read it, if you haven’t already. Also thank you for covering Iris Chang’s The Rape of Nanking. Book and her life story, I will never forget either.

Early review
I appreciate your service to the country and views on discipline and life, but I don’t like the anti-carbohydrate un-scientific views on diet that Jocko stated on episode 6. I have listened to about 3 episodes so far. A blended fruit shake is by no means bad for you, you need to have balance and nuance. Carbohydrates drive athletic performance, they aren’t “necessary”, but it is wrong to say “they are bad for you”. I love the idea of detachment, especially from “worldly” things and short term pleasures. It is interesting that I have often heard anti-carbohydrate talk from similarly minded platforms. So far seems like a good place for philosophical advice on toughness.

Officer having relations with married private
Jocko, I would like your help and opinion about an officer having relations with a private, and even when it is brought to the command at Ft. Hood. My son is a E-5, his wife joined and is a E-1. She has had this relationship for a while and her command knew it was happening because she was bragging about it. The LT.‘a captain said he was going to investigate and said that they were told to stop. No reproductions to either, and still is going on. My son has to do a year in Korea and now is in the process of divorce. No one from the captain and major down has done absolutely nothing to have and code of justice. What is happening to our military leaders? How can they see this and do nothing? There is a mass exodus going on because of the leadership especially at Ft. Hood. I am so angry that my son and my grandchildren see their mother doing this while their dad is in Korea. I would greatly appreciate your opinion. Thank you, your podcast is amazing and I’ve been listening for years and have the upmost respect for you and your service for this country.

As a Navy Reservist Gunnersmate and a FED, I love listening to this podcast. It gets me in the right mindset every morning going to the gym to “Get After It”. It reaffirms the freedoms we take for granted each day and reminds me why I do my job. It reaffirms my mindset that today could be the day and to stay alert and keep my head in the game. I will continue to get better, faster, stronger so that I can best my enemy when the time comes. Thank you.

Jocko is loosing his edge, not what it used to be
Jock is content used to be amazing, great lessons on leadership and self improvement. Over the past few months (late 2021) the content has devolved to political bashing and conspiracy theories. Of all people, I would have expected Jocko to be the last to start whining about “shadow bans” and how “he could be a better president”. If you want more narrow minded hot air from the the bro-vet thought bubble, the new content is for you. I really hope Jocko gets back to reality and starts covering genuine content like he used to.

Difficult Listening
Just when I thought I had heard most of the worst aspects of the Vietnam war. It’s no wonder our country has fallen to the point where it is now. The criminal politicians and bureaucrats were never held accountable for their actions. Now we are here in what feels like a steep decline with each day that passes.

The subject of this podcast made so disgusted in our elected officials and military leaders. Thank you for bringing to light the sacrifice of these brave Americans who were mistreated this way. Those in charge of this project need to be held accountable for their actions. Those in project 100,000 need to be found and ensured they have received the care and resources they’ve earned.

Jocko does an amazing job of telling compelling stories of leadership, decision making, and mentoring of others through readings and discussion of military origins. But he is great at talking in a way that is about leadership we all deal with in our normal walks of life. Insightful as one that follows and serves as much as one responsible for the team.

Have to believe it’s never too late. I found this podcast through listening to Mike Drop Podcast. I hard core committed to listening to Jocko Podcast by starting at episode One!! I’m still catching up, currently on episode 278! Having a new clean addiction has been great!! Its starting a new way of life from the lessons taught here! Its listening to history and never forgetting those who went before me!! I’m a veteran that didn’t start a new mission and practically lost it all. Drug Addiction and Suicide being my favorite. It’s been a long road and I’m fortunate I found this podcast because I really wanted to retreat to the grave I dug myself prior. I’m on the side of the grave, but I’m not in it thanks to this podcast.

A No Nonsense podcast
Serious discussions on topics of significance (for the most part). Jocko’s voice is compelling and Echo Charles editing and style is stunning. I particularly like the black/white/noir look which makes it unique to watch. The conversations which elicit the background of the guest or the book, and the steps, failures as well as successes and strategies reveal the connections we all have who have been in similar situations. He asks provocative questions and follows with his own experiences. I wait for these to “drop” every week. Finding useful TTPs and advice in almost every episode. Jocko does his homework before a guest is interviewed or a book is read. Time well spent. Highly recommend this podcast.

Be prepared
I have listened to many podcasts while doing my daily walks. They are very informative and compelling. I only wish our language would complement the veracity of our many heroes. I have also increased my library of books to help me understand the veterans and current military persons. My draft number during Vietnam was 280. I was lazy and useless. I would have had a lot of trouble in the military. Nevertheless, many men and women have benefits from military service and I see a great swing to the usefulness of a well trained force. Keep up the good work JOCKO!

Nipple twist for your ear hole
If you feel like you are living a sad and pathetic life, you are probably correct. Jocko brings on guest after guest to confirm your analysis, and inspires you to get out of your rut hole life and get it together. Brutally honest, like that one uncle who airs the dirty laundry at thanksgiving dinner. However, the goal of the breakdown is not to destroy, but to find a way to build you back better than before. This podcast seems like it should scare away anyone who ever admired a manbun as a thing to be desired, but is surprisingly approachable to the wider, less machismo audience. The podcast isn’t talking a big game for those who are already strong and boasting about it, but identifying where we each are weak in order to address it. 15-20 minutes at the end to shill the goods, but hey, jocko has bills to pay y’all, so no factor. I like this man, his message, and the army of good people he seems to be surrounding and building around him to accomplish the mission. Wish I had found this podcast sooner. 5 stars, and that’s not stolen valor.

Outrageous Oratory and Life Changing Lessons
Recently a guy has shown interest in my sister, so during my talk with him getting to know the caliber of man he was I asked the question I ask many people, “Do you listen to Jocko?” He was taken aback by this question and plainly answered “No”. Wrong Answer. Immediately my mind tells me all sorts of terrible things this man must be doing in his life like: not taking ownership, having a centralized command, and believing freedom can be achieved through things other than discipline. I feel my blood start to boil as this man is interested in my sister yet he is not on The Path but before I gave my temper a vote, I calmly stated “You need to start listening”. I gave him a few choice episodes that would be beneficial to his growth and would get him to start his journey on The Path. Two days and two early wake ups for me pass as I think about this guy and his plain answer “No” to such an important question when I get a message from him stating “Jocko is lowkey amazing”. Slightly more impressed at his listening to an episode but still appalled at his lack of respect for Jocko’s decisive dialogue, I swiftly corrected his grave error. “Highkey” I said ensuring he never mistakes Jocko’s key level of amazingness again. He is slowly learning the way of The Path but is far from understanding the life changing wisdom in leadership, relationships, and overall in life, that can be found in this podcast.
