Best Investing Podcast out there hosted by one of the best interviewers out there
Patrick filled a niche in the investing podcast world. He is able to talk broadly about investing with his guests through extremely knowledgeable framework of investing. He has had some fantastic guests on. There is much more to take away from this podcast that just investing themes. I am very excited to see who else Patrick is able to bring on and interview. I would vote for longer interviews, but understandable that the guests he brings on are time constrained.

Flirting with Becoming Crypto Scam Shill
I have enjoyed and valued Invest Like the Best for several years. Patrick has great guests and typically produces episodes with interesting conversations. Recently, however, he has begun hosting various players within the NFT space. No objection there, except that his interviews with these individuals are as entirely credulous as to what theyโre pushing. The most recent episode with Eric Golden, owner of the scam known as Bored Ape Yacht Club, was a step too far. Iโve always liked Patrickโs work, but heโs steering too much content in this direction. Discussing crypto and NFTs is fine. Discussing them as though theyโre an unmitigated triumph is not. Starts to feel like an infomercial for junk products.

A lot of what Iโve learned I learned here
Patrick - you said in episode 46 that a lot of what youโve learned [in general, in life] youโve learned here doing this podcast. The same goes for me, right from this podcast. Episode 46 is a great example because Iโm so used to learning here that even though the summary description didnโt sound like a sure fire win, I knew the smart thing to do would be to listen. So I am. And Iโm already learning more than I thought I would. Again! Thank you!

Great podcasts most of the time, with outstanding investment personalities and veterans. Disappointed at the recent disproportional amount of crypto-focused episodes.

Empowering, insightful and actionable! ๐
Truly one of the best podcasts you can listen to. Patrick and the entire Colossus team do an incredible job leading conversations that push you past your preconceived decision making frameworks, values and reference points to arrive at a depth of understanding that separates the average investor from someone who can build a coherent thesis - and stand behind that thesis while integrating the constant stream of new information coming their way! Canโt recommend this show enough!

Probably the best business podcast you can find. There are so many great ideas generated every week, and the way the interviews are conducted is outstanding. Always extremely well prepared and insightful. We actually applied some of the concepts I found on this podcast in our company. With pretty good results. Episode 8 about the restaurant business is extremely helpful thinking about the concepts of business innovation.

Way more than investing
Patrick and this podcast bring such a fascinating collection of people and ideas to investing & business. However, thereโs so much more : these interviews become discussions about life and learning, ideas, mentors, analysis and creativity. Topics can include; very analytical approaches like old school valuation and quantitative analysis, algorithms, machine learning, to general business principles like capital allocation, moats, management etc to more philosophical discussions and topics as well- like learning, gaming, personal growth and exploration of opportunities. The key however is the host. Patrickโs breadth of knowledge, ability to connect and draw out his guests as well as his curiosity and humility all add to the quality of the interviews that make this podcast so great. I enjoy the variety of topics and love to share these podcasts with friends, family and business colleagues alike.

A surprise discovery, not really for investing
This is the best show Iโve discovered recently, thanks to Spotify recommendation. I was suspicious at first since Iโm not in the finance world, nor close to investing, VC, banking or any of that, though being in the Bay Area. Iโm so glad I gave it a try. The title doesnโt do justice for this show. Itโs not the investing 101, how to get a job in finance kind of stuff I was expecting, only much better. The host is such a great listener and questioner - asking all the appropriate questions at the right time, and only that. I could feel that his guest is enjoying the conversation as he is, and as I am. Itโs authentic, informative, and just at the right level of detail and intimacy. I envy that he knows so many smart and interesting people and gets to have such nurturing conversations. Itโs been a feast, thank you all for sharing. I feel inspired and learned after every episode. I so wish to join a live conversation like this someday myself!

Personal story: After listening to countless episodes, I felt this podcast had earned the right as an โInterestโ on my resume. One of the first things my now manger mentioned was this inclusion. Heโd just had a friend recommend the podcast to him. I got the job, my first in finance. Appreciate it Patrick. Official Review: Patrick is a phenomenal communicator and host. After each episode I feel/am a better man for having listened. Regardless of subject (and the variety is brilliant), Patrick and guests never fail to impart high quality wisdom. Have highly recommended and will continue to do just that. Letโs just say, Iโm โInterested.โ

Broad Discussions About Finance And Tech
By far the most diverse range of interview topics/guests of any investing podcast. Patrick is great at sitting back and letting his guests do the talking. Random tangential interviews along with deep dives into private businesses, blockchain technology, and Fintechโs future; itโs a joy to start each new podcast. The enjoyable meandering path of the podcast seems to mimics Patrickโs own journey of learning and networking in the investing world.

For the wonky at heart
Patrick is a superb host and the content - while often sounding like a data science for dummies class - is fascinating. He invites excellent guests to dive deep into their corners of investing. This is definitely not a "how to" guide to investing; I don't see myself applying much of it to my personal money management. But it does take me to that next level of understanding on how markets operate.

Stunningly good -- more "meta" investing than just investing
Very worthwhile podcast -- every sinegle one I've listened to bears a relisten. This is not your typical investing podcast -- it's very meta. You will get conversations about basketball, Perez' deployment age, and more in a wide-ranging and even-handed series by a really good and insightful host. I came to it because of one specific guest and have stayed for the rest.

Excellent finance podcast which avoids falling into "the formulaic podcast" trap
I started following ILTB after the Hash Power specials (which to this day remain the best episodes given the amount of editing work Patrick put into them). But I stayed for all things not crypto. To be honest, I don't listen to all episodes - there's probably 1/3 I'll discard given either the topic or the guest don't fit my appetite (or time constraints). But the 2/3 I've listened to in almost one year have been very good. Covering a wide range of topics, this podcast stands out from the million investment podcasts out there. And even though Patrick now has resorted to Q+A he still manages to do it in a way which is insightful and incisive. He clearly knows his guests and shows up with prepared interviews. Give it a try!

Informative Guests and Facinating Topics
Not cheesy and gimmicky, just well articulated and informative topics with incredibly insightful guests. Excellent program, I'm addicted now and look further into the guest's works and follow their social media accounts after every episode - they're just that intriguing! I also like that they often don't compromise the program by dumbing things down to an unentertaining-spoon-fed banter about things you hear in 100 level classes.

Best investing and life wisdom podcast EVER!
It was serendipity really how recently I came across Patrickโs podcast, but from the moment I listened to the first episode I chose at random (Khe Hy), I was hooked! Iโve gone through many episodes so far, and the consistency of the super high quality guests to the incisive questions from Patrick to the free flow of ideas is nothing short of amazing and crazy insightful. If you consider yourself a lifelong learner and are intellectually curious about a wide variety of topics (not just investing), youโve come to the right place. As an MBA/CFA charterholder and an M&A practitioner (not to mention former student of Mauboussinโs at CBS), I thought I understood finance and investing, but the insights & wisdom that Patrick and his guests convey through these episodes about those topics (and more) rivals all my formal training and years of experience combined. I frequently go back to listen to a few of these episodes again in order to reflect on the themes, topics and even specific statements made by the guests and/or Patrick. I can say unequivocally that this podcast has sharpened my perspective and appetite for life, investing, knowledge and learning in a fundamentally profound way. My biggest regret is not finding this sooner... Thank you Patrick for all your efforts on this! I know itโs incredibly hard work to make the podcast as super professional as it sounds, but I trust itโs gratifying work for you and I selfishly pray that you continue this good work for decades to come...

A wealth of learning in every podcast
Each one of these go fairly deep into a different area across a breadth of topics in the investment and life areas. The learning in each one is immense and worth listening to several times. Every thought of turning this into a course? It feels like a mini Finance degree...

One of the Best Podcasts Available
First, I am not an investment professional. I started listening to this podcast after I saw a tweet that Brad Stuhlberg would be on and I really liked his book. This was a great listen and some of my favorite episodes are Josh Wolf, Brad Katuysama, Tim Urban, Team Ritzholz and many others would be a great place to start. I had our team (I'm a sales manager) listen to Patrick and Brad and this was a huge hit and more importantly had much practical application. Ironically, my father gave me one of Patrick's father books years ago. Inside comment: kindest thing I do is share this podcast with my team and my friends and everyone really enjoys and learns from these. Keep up the great work!

Does not get better....
What makes this podcast one of the best is who he interviews and how he does it. Unlike a LOT of other podcasters, Patrick knows how to keep his mouth shut and just listen. He directs the flow, but letโs his interviewer open up, which is great, because of the talent he seems to get access to. Great job, keep it up!

Content worth consuming
This podcast spurs my creativity and is thought provoking. Worth keeping up with each episode. Patrick - my only criticism is the call to action at the end of each episode. Not sure if this is intentional, but relative to the show it is low energy. I'd be curious what change in interaction you'd get if you adjusted this.

A thinking mans podcast
I find the Investing Like the Best Podcast to be one of the most intelligent podcasts out there today. As someone who listens to multiple finance/ investing podcast on a regular basis, it is refreshing to hear someone who is actually interested in what theyโre talking about without the ridiculous overhyping nonsense that you get in most financial investment podcast and who also allows his guest to expand on that idea and complete thoughts. I somehow always feel smarter when I hear intelligent people talk and this podcast definitely hits that mark.

Bailed on the Bail Bondsman
First and foremost I'm a huge fan of your podcasts. Not just the content and guests but your questions and prep work are second to none. It's always a wonderful 2 way conversation and you follow-up and anticipate so well, there's rarely if ever a missed opportunity to drill into a topic until it been completely and expertly exhausted. However, I couldn't reach for the stop button fast enough on your latest podcast with Ira Judelson (and Danny Moses)! What a self-centered, insecure and egotistical jerk. Who cares about his exploits at Rao's?! I applaud you for seeking new ideas, angles, businesses and voices but this particular voice was unlistenable and borderline offensive. Admittedly I gave up early but I generally know what I like pretty quickly. And this one didn't measure up.

Great content and guests from thought provoking host!!!
Patrick and I share many similarities, we both started in the financial industry straight out of college in 2007, have two little kids, and enjoy reading and learning. I thoroughly enjoyed his book millennial money and his father's book as well what works on Wall Street. The podcast talks about many interesting topics and I have found the content to be top notch. It is clear that Patrick is a die hard quant investor. I think the merits of quant investing are many. I always wonder what the future of quant investing will be. It seems everyone has access to the same info these days and the us stock market is sliced and diced in every kind of way 10 times over. I look forward to learning more from Patrick and his guests as time goes on.

Worth the Time!
I recommend listening to this podcast if you enjoy the topic of investing, like to read and seek to be exposed to areas and concepts you may be missing. I started listening to ILTB with some reservation. I thought it would be just another outlet to hear the same guests from other more established podcasts. I was wrong. Patrick is an excellent interviewer and his conversations with guests almost always end up unlocking some kind of thought train that takes me to unintended, unexplored areas ripe with potential. I use the podcast as a reference guide to books and subjects worth exploring. I use it as a Cliff's Notes version for areas I am not able to get into immediately. As an investment professional, I use it to expand my reach into non-finance subjects in a non-intimidating context. Lastly but importantly, the shows are packaged superbly. Their duration is respectful of the listener's time. Patrick also seems to have mastered verbal ticks that plague far more established podcasters. This adds profoundly to the perceived quality of conversations. If you can listen to only one investing podcast, make Invest Like the Best it! You will not be disappointed. Ilir Shkurti, CFA

Patrick O'Shaughnessy has created a thoughtful and worthwhile investing podcast that will introduce you to some of the thought leaders in the finance, business, investor activism and investment management. The conversations are respectful and edifying. Who wouldn't want to hear from people such as Credit Suisse's Michael Mauboussin, the WSJ's Jason Zweig, Morgan Housel, Betterment's Jon Stein, Ted Seides or Vanguard heavyweights Gerry O'Reilly and Jim Rowley- amongst a cadre of other great guests? - Invest Like the Best with Patrick O'Shaughnessy Mar 7 ยท 1h 6m Trae Stephens - Find Good Quests - [Invest Like the Best, EP.319]My guest this week is Trae Stephens. Trae is a partner at Founders Fund and co-founder and Executive Chairman of Anduril. Traeโs philosophy can be boiled down to finding good quests, which has led him to investing in businesses that work closely with the government on societally important issues. Clearly, that extends to co-founding Anduril and I would highly recommend listening to my Business Breakdowns episode on Anduril if you havenโt already. In this conversation, we discuss the importance of lobbyists, why the high-tech defense firms of the past became stale, and how he hunts for disagreeableness in founders. - Doug Leone - Lessons from a Titan - [Invest Like the Best, EP.318]My guest this week is Doug Leone. Doug led one of the worldโs most successful venture firms, Sequoia, for over 25 years after he was given responsibility for the firm by its founder, Don Valentine, in 1996. Alongside Mike Moritz, the pair managed its expansion from a single $150m early-stage fund into an $85 billion global powerhouse. It was a privilege to sit down with Doug and learn from him. We talk about his tough start at Sequoia, get into the technicalities of great go-to-market motions, and survey his advice for other investors in the industry. A key theme that will stick with me from this conversation is Dougโs insistence on keeping things simple and clear. Please enjoy my great conversation with Doug Leone. - Tim Urban - Idea Labs and High-Rung Thinking - [Invest Like the Best, EP.317]Iโm excited to share this conversation with Tim Urban. Tim is, in my opinion, one of the best and most engaging writers of our era. Heโs tackled many of the most interesting topics in the world from AI to procrastination. I interviewed him in 2017 in an episode we called โGrand Theft Lifeโ, and it remains one of my favorite episodes ever. In the 6 years since that episode, he hasnโt published almost anything. Thatโs because heโs been writing the book we discuss in this episode. The book is called โWhatโs Our Problemโ, in which Tim investigates the big issues facing society. The reason I love Timโs writing so much is its density of ideas and ridiculously clear explanations: a rare combo that makes reading a joy. I hope you enjoy this great round two with Tim Urban, and go buy and enjoy his great new book. For the full show notes, transcript, and links to mentioned content, check out the episode page here. - Shane Battier - The No-Stats All-Star - [Invest Like the Best, EP.304]Todayโs episode is a special one, in a format that may turn into a series. It is a conversation between Ravi Gupta and Shane Battier . Ravi is a partner at Sequoia, one of our most popular past guests, and a good friend. Shane is Raviโs friend, and one of the most successful basketball players ever, having won championships and awards at the high school, college, and NBA levels. I spent 10 years as a purely quantitative investor, so naturally I was obsessed with data in sports. When I was meeting with prospective investors, Michael Lewisโs book Moneyballโwhich chronicled the data analytics revolution in baseballโwas my go-to analogy to explain what I didโฆ โMoneyball, but for investing.โ I used that line for years. Iโve learned firsthand that itโs wise to follow your curiosity, no matter how strange or different it may be. The podcast is my curiosity tour, and years ago it led me to Sam Hinkieโwho is himself on the Mt. Rushmore of analytics in sports. Sam introduced me to Ravi. Then Ravi sent me Michael Lewisโ article written about Shane called โThe No Stats All-Star.โ I highly recommend you read it. All this serendipity around friends, data, investing, and sports gave me an idea: why not ask Ravi to interview Shane? There were so many valuable ideas in the Michael Lewis article, I thought weโd get even more in a real taped interview with someone that knew Shane well, and thatโs exactly what happened. Ravi likes the idea of playing for the front of the jersey, not the back. It is hard to imagine someone that lived that more than Shane. Shane shares his story, lessons learned from various coaches, and using data as an advantage. He also explains the four kinds of teams heโs encountered, which I found simple, and memorable.ย I hope you enjoy this great conversation, and if you have ideas for other iconic duos we could bring on in a similar format, DM me on Twitter. Thanks to Ravi and Shane for kicking off Thanksgiving week for us all.
