AXIOS Audience bill of rights
Dear AXIOS, I’m a new listener. Thank you for the the good job of reporting. I specially liked hearing about your “”Listener bill of rights / Audience bill of rights””. I think that’s a concept you should repeat on your program now and then. Specially in these times when there seems to be a serious erosion and attacks on the truth and lack of accountability. Everyone is in titled to their own opinions. But not in titled to their own set of facts. Thank you for what you do. TKU for your commitment to the truth and be accountable for your accurate reporting of the facts. We the audience will hold you to your promise. John the scorpion guy

Trump was a provocateur
Trump was a provocateur sent to increase tribalism, demonized dissent and destroy domestic tranquility. His obnoxiousness was by design. The tell was when he was running and people were protesting corporate tycoons running for president- he said “ get him punch him in the face”- text book provocateur. He wasn’t fighting the elites, he was working for them, a reality tv star, a provocateur playing the role of a president.

Hit or Miss
Updating my review to account for all seasons: Season 1 (Jonathan Swan): Fantastic. Riveting and engaging. Couldn’t wait for the next episode. Swan is a great storyteller. Season 2 (Miriam Kramer): Complete bore. I didn’t even listen to the last episode of this season because the others were so terrible. Getting through this season was a chore and definitely not worth my time. Season 3 (Barak Ravid): Great “season” if you can call it that. Only two episodes? Why? Too bad - I enjoyed Barak. Season 4 (Dave Lawler): Had high expectations for this season because the Ukraine/Russia story is one I’ve been following closely. Unfortunately, Dave isn’t all that engaging. Good story, not so good host. Wish it was Swan.

Opinions littered with sparse truths
I’m continually seeking unbiased journalism and it doesn’t exist here. This podcast is an ocean of opinions and “fill in the gap” conclusions surrounding small islands of truth. Unfortunately, they spend most of their time connecting dots with their own, biased notions of “why” as a means to build a bridge between two points of fact. It is an interesting listen. But only for those seeking more confirmation bias.

Hard to believe the hard hitting podcast giving fascinating behind the scenes details by the superb Jonathan Swan was handed over for the puff piece of a PR job. What an embarrassment and has sullied what could have been an awesome brand in podcasts.

5 for Swan but…
Because the 1st season was amazing and he’s one of my favorite reporters, I’m rating this 5 stars. But the 2nd season and contrast between stories is….. subpar at best. Given the current state of the world, you couldn’t find anything besides the how the “we don’t pay taxes” guys are “into” space most civilians will never access in their lifetimes?

I finally have the mental and emotional space to listen to this. When it was all happening, it was so confusingly incredible, it was hard to take in. Listening to this months after the events, it’s providing a highly credible picture of how and why Trump fueled the conspiracies about the election.

Crazy Fly on the Wall
Jonathan Swan risks his sanity by delving behind the scenes swirling around Trump from Election Night through the January 6th insurrection. This is the history that needs to be engraved on the American historical record showing how crazy conspiracists were driving all of us to the brink of destruction...where in fact, the MAGA insurrectionists took over the asylum. This on-going horror story will continue to play out until the GOP is burned at the political stake.
JoUlloa9

Don’t mind the one stars
This is a well sourced, well told, recount of the events that led first to November 3, then to January 6. One stars are people who don’t live in reality and who want to ply pretend as though their ideology is above criticism. They’re not Americans, they’re fascists, this is a spectacularly done investigative podcast about the people at the highest levels of the former presidents inner circle, what they did, and how all their and his actions contributed to the insurrection on January 6. Don’t find solace in the fact that we averted it, find fuel for making sure this NEVER happens again. Fascism arrived, draped in the flag and carrying a Bible, it will come again... next time it may not be as incompetent. We got the fascist out of power and averted descending into fascism, but the elements remain, the actors remain, and the environment remains. It isn’t going anywhere, so we can’t either.

Jonathan Swan is my favorite.
I’ve been following Axios for over a year now. It’s the most neutral news source I’ve ever found and I love that. I don’t care about the right opinion, the left opinion, I simply want the facts and Axios provides that. I do believe that lately it tends to “seem to skew more left” but I do believe that is a direct breakdown in how Trump refused time and time again to respect Swan’s duty as a journalist to get the facts. Trump was rude, Trump avoided questions and Trump flat out lied. Any journalist would find this infuriating as should all Americans. I’m just so thrilled that I came across Axios. It is the ONLY news I read.

Masterfully-told narrative
Here’s a podcast I listened to yesterday - series of 5, each about 20 min. It’s about the Fall of Cheeto, a worn-out theme - but this reporter tells a masterful story with lots of internal details. It’s almost a dramatization. Really recommended on the strength of his presentation. Bonus points for the Australian accent, having to spell out P-A-W-N as opposed to P-O-R-N. Four Seasons Total Diction!

A fly on the wall
Jonathan Swan is a great journalist and knows exactly how to convey the truth in a way we as Americans need from all journalists. This series is a perfect way for us to understand what was going on behind the scenes & it all makes so much more sense knowing what Trump’s plan was to lie to all about the election from the beginning. I feel bad for the “fly on the wall” having to hear all of Trump’s crazy ideas.

Why America supports Trump
What Jonathan Swan and his ilk will never understand is how they made Donald Trump. When you have the mainstream media, most of the academic elite, and the leaders of our largest corporations, all teamed up it should frighten any thinking American. Their number one objective for over four years has been to destroy Trump. As the old saying goes the enemy of my enemy is my friend. I don’t like Trump. I didn’t vote for him in 2016. But Trump is leading the resistance to the oligarchic elite that feel they are entitled to rule our country. Anyone who can help restore our country to the people will have large support among the people.

Witnessing the interviews given to Swan in the past few years, I have gained respect for his sharp mind and wit. Jonathan Swan, who is so appealing and smart, clearly must have had great contacts in the former president’s White House, many of whom watched the president careen around and provided amazing insider details about Trump’s self immolation. Swan weaves the narrative in such a compelling manner, a great pleasure to listen to his recounting.

How can we verify any of this story?
I’m sure there is much to be reported about end of this administration. However, this podcast fails to present evidence that any of this actually happened. In today’s world full of conspiracy theories and misinformation the bar should be set higher than this.

Excellent Reporting
Just listened to the first podcast of this series, and Jonathan really takes you to where the action is taking place. Not surprisingly, Trump is shocked at Fox calling Arizona for Biden, nor is his reaction a shock. What is mind-numbing is the reality of how he operates, and all his toadies. A real inside look as only Jonathan can give us. This is providing a historical record of what happened that night, and helps me to understand better. Thank you for such great reporting, and look forward to more!

I was really looking forward to this podcast after reading Jonathan Swan’s Off the Rails pieces. The podcast seems rushed though. There is so much intel here, it feels like you’re drinking from the fire hose. These episodes could have been stretched out to 45-50 minutes, with more background given that allows the listener to digest all the information. His reporting is top notch though.

Not bad but needs sources
The content is interesting, but delivered in more of a sensational way than you would expect. It sounds more like a drama than reporting. Also, the host says a lot about “never before reported” stuff, but never sites where these reports are coming from. It’s entertaining, but not the journalistic podcast I was expecting.

I thought I couldn’t deal with any more of this era’s insanity, But Jonathon Swan is so good with his material. It’s too crazy to be acceptable fiction, but Swan has impeccable sources and is a very measured reporter, so if anything he’s underselling the drama of it.

Swan is great (despite the music)
I trust and appreciate Swan’s reporting and seek out his stories. The little details - of where a meeting was held, who was wearing what, the food served - speak for themselves as evidence of first-hand information. The podcast continues that strong tradition despite the crime drama series music in the background.

How Does Swan Do It?
I’ve read Jonathan Swan’s “Off the Rails” series and listened to the first episode of this series on the Axios site. He’s broken an astounding number of stories based on what can only be his non-threateningly innocent presence and total trustworthiness. His sources are deep and knowledgeable, and nobody tells a story better than Swan does. This one is important. While there are at least 81 million of us who wouldn’t put anything past Trump, here we get to see exactly how his desperation and self-absorption led from his fear of losing to inciting insurrection.

OMG the inside scoop on the traitor
Tell it like it is. Trump alone planted the seeds for insurrection at 2am election night. The mismanagement and devastation to his already tarnished brand and reputation post election night is all the proof one needs as to how stupid he really is. I’m shocked that any person on moral conscience would now stay at his hotels, rent in his building or play golf at any of his clubs. He may be able to sell pillows and linens on late night infomercials

Entertaining reporting and great storytelling. Swans narration tends to be a bit overdramatic at times, and the background track really cranks that dynamic up to 11. I’ll change my review if you prove me wrong but I’m getting tired of Hollywood writing masquerading as news. It sounds like a reality television edit at this point but I’ll hear you out. Jonathan Swan’s coverage of Trump before and during the night of the 2020 election
Swan’s keen observations will present the “whole” picture. Outstanding, straight forward reporting about a president who executed a strategic plan to claim victory, even in the face of defeat, long before election night 2020. This is not an “opinion” piece. If Jonathan Swan has an agenda, it’s to report “How It Happened” fairly. His podcast is very compelling and verifiable although others in attendance - who mainstream media called “enablers” (but not Swan) - might remain silent or evasive if questioned.

Prescience
I’ve read the Axios Episode 3. That is enough for me to give it a 5 rating. Now for Episodes 1 and 2 as a podcast. If Jonathon Swan is the lead inquisitor they will be as good as Episode 3. Hence . . . As Dr. Fraser Crain used to say, go ahead I’m listening.

- Putin’s Invasion Part V: The Fight for the DonbasHow It Happened: Putin’s Invasion Part V: The Fight for the Donbas goes straight to the frontlines of the war, seen through the eyes of a journalist who has been covering the war there and a soldier who has been fighting there, both since 2014. After the failed effort to take Kyiv, Russian President Vladimir Putin turned his focus to the Donbas, vowing to "liberate" the entire region, which was partially controlled by pro-Russian separatists before he launched his full-scale invasion on Feb. 24. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described soldiers in the Donbas as some of the best Ukraine has. Their battle to defend this region will decide the fate of the war. Axios World editor Dave Lawler spent weeks interviewing Ukrainian Cpl. Andrii Shadrin and news producer Kateryna Malofieieva to understand the region’s history and significance, the realities of daily life on the ground, and why the stakes of this fight are so high. - Putin's Invasion Part IV: The View from RussiaIn part four of How It Happened: Putin’s Invasion, Axios World editor Dave Lawler digs into polling indications that Russians are rallying around their president even as Western sanctions and global condemnations escalate. This episode features interviews with a top political opposition leader, the director of the leading independent polling firm in Russia, a prominent sociologist from the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences and a journalist on the ground in Moscow. Across these interviews, Lawler sets out to learn why the more horrific the allegations against Russia — such as the apparent massacre of civilians in Bucha— the stronger the impulse seems to be to reject them as lies. - How It Happened Mar 28 · 25m Putin's Invasion Part III: How It Could EndIn part three of How It Happened: Putin’s Invasion, Axios World editor Dave Lawler examines a difficult reality — that the only clear path to peace in Ukraine is a deal between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but the red lines drawn by the Russian and Ukrainian leaders do not intersect. This episode features interviews with Zelensky’s chief of staff, a member of Parliament in his party, two close observers of Putin and the Kremlin, and a former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine with decades of diplomatic experience in the region. Across these interviews, Lawler tries to determine the end games for Putin and Zelensky and the likeliest scenarios for how this conflict could end. Kramer speaks with the crew, the parent of a crew member, and a former NASA safety expert about how memories of the Challenger explosion have shaped the way the space industry prepares astronauts for risk. In conversations with crew members Jared Isaacman and Chris Sembroski and with their spouses, Kramer explores how uniquely challenging it is for the parents of young children to prepare their families for a mission to space. Kramer travels to Bozeman, Montana to watch the Inspiration4 crew fly in fighter jets over the course of a festive weekend, intended to bring the crew's families together, where they all celebrated the upcoming launch and confronted the reality of its approach. - The Next Astronauts Part II: The New Right StuffAxios space reporter Miriam Kramer unpacks who historically has been able to go to space and why the selection of Inspiration4 crew members Sian Proctor and Hayley Arceneaux is a break from the status quo. Kramer shares what she asked Elon Musk in 2020 as the Dragon capsule flew humans for the first time on the same day of nationwide Black Lives Matter protests — and how he answered. She learns Proctor's story, from her birth in Guam where her father was a contractor for the Apollo 11 mission to becoming a NASA astronaut finalist and to her chance to make history as the first Black female pilot of a spacecraft. Kramer also explores Arceneaux's story, told by Hayley and her mother, of Hayley overcoming childhood cancer, becoming a physician assistant for the hospital that treated her and getting the opportunity to be the first person in space with a prosthesis.
