Excellent and Informative
This has been a thoroughly enjoyable podcast. Well-researched, broad ranging topics, stories, and myths that have never failed to get me thinking. It is biased towards the truth, and Mr. Lloyd does an excellent job of presenting multiple perspectives to arrive as close to the truth as is possible with forgotten and misunderstood historical occurrences. Highly recommended.

Great podcast here
It’s right wing ignorami that don’t appreciate this podcast because they choose to substitute facts for the whatever the horse crap they believe in this week. I’m satisfied with studying the world as it actually is so I like this podcast. Never be surprised by a clown’s stupid nose.

Doesn’t tip toe around tough subjects
I really appreciate your approach to history. I had listened to some other episodes but wondered how you would address darker points of American history. I have gotten so used to people addressing slavery like “yeah it happened, but that was the past”. After listening to 85 & 86 I had to leave a review with my thanks for talking about this issue head on. Since the election in 2016 I slowly lost a most of my non-black friends because issues in politics and history. And phrases that equate to “black people need to stop bringing up the past” came up to much. This podcast gave me hope that there still may be hope for America.

Suffering from its own historical blindness
It’s a decent show depending on the topic, but if that topic crosses wires with today, expect Nathan to go insanely hyperbolic and hysteric in demonizing modern Republicans. I’m no conservative but I quite frankly do not care to have modern partisanship so overbearing in a podcast about things in the past. I came here to learn, not be lectured to. His JFK series is quite frankly one of the best, because he largely avoids falling into this pitfall.

Finally someone willing to stand up to misinformation
This podcast is a necessity in the modern era. The host is extraordinarily knowledgeable and delves deep into the reality behind so many conspiracies. Negative reviews for this podcast are clearly contributed by those who are not only uniformed but unwilling to see that their deeply held misconceptions are nothing other than falsities.

Great historical podcast!
This podcast is well is well written researched, and presented. The through line of American history isn’t a straight line in any direction, and the age we live in isn’t a direct plot from the old guys who wrote the constitution. This podcast helps to show us the true messiness of American History.

Biased opinions passed as fact.
Mr. Lloyd makes no attempt to address topics in an unbiased fashion. He tries to pass his opinions as facts by only giving details that support his position. I can’t recommend this podcast to anyone who is looking for a historical podcast free from bias. Mr. Lloyd should preface his episodes by stating that much of what he says is opinion.

Excellent production value.
Shockingly so honestly. Other than that it makes no attempt to be unbiased. If it’s not in the accepted history then it's racist and case closed. Broad brushstrokes while ignoring inconvenient facts that don’t add up. For example buildings with two stories underground with glass windows facing the dirt. Massive brick fortresses (Fort Jefferson) made of millions of bricks miles out at sea. So a cash-strapped fledgling country diverted all it’s wealth into floating countless bricks out on sail boats to build something that isn’t guarding anything for hundreds of miles. We don’t know the answers to all of history.. but this guy does. He probably thinks the pyramids were made by slaves. Let me ask you this: could you pull a 10 ton rock up a stone ramp with hemp rope? Now do that 100k times.

Not Blind
I have listened to many episodes over the past two years. The “Gun Culture in America” episode flushed his credibility right down the pipe. This was a pure leftist opinion slam piece with all the old talking points and no discussion of “culture” whatsoever. If he spent more than an hour researching this, I would be surprised. If he had gone a few minutes longer, he would have discovered at least one point from the other argument. So very disappointing.

Very informative and interesting
This podcast is informative as well as entertaining. I have learned much history, and in an enjoyable manner. Nathaniel Lloyd does a great job, and tells many interesting stories. Further, he finds many surprising tidbits. I am listening to his podcast on gun violence through history, which is historically apt (and very sad that we still do not do a good job of keeping guns out of the hands of crazies). Keep up the good work, Nathaniel!

Unbiased Truth…separates fact from fiction
Like a lot of people I know a little about history, but I’ve never been passionate about it until I started listening to Historical Blindness. Topics are presented in an unbiased factual manner. It’s like listening to an old episode of Paul Harvey and “The rest of the story“, meaning it can be surprisingly insightful. It is so well done I can wait to hear the next episode. This is a must listen to show!

Myth-tory or History?
I have been a happy listener for a couple of years now, I have listened to almost every episode. I have learned about topics that I have never heard of and heard points of view that that I never would have thought of. I like history that is not written from an ideological stance and some may argue that this one is, however unlike many history podcasts this one cites its resources without fail and if a fact has any room for interpretation it calls that out clearly. I also enjoy a good conspiracy theory, not saying that all are wrong or all are right but this series does well in laying them out and giving you factual information to dispel them. This series is well written, well produced and enjoyable even when the topic may not be. I look forward to each new episode and even when the authors views may not align with mine, I respect the work he has put into the research and how he arrived at his conclusion. Those who do not learn from history are only doomed to repeat it, so give this show a listen and you may be surprised what we can learn.

This is great history, whatever your politics
I normally don’t write reviews for anything, but during the last episode I listened to, Nathaniel said that he’s been getting crap reviews on Apple Podcasts. I’m here to help counter those reviews. Understand, I don’t agree with most of Nathaniel’s political views. He and I would have long arguments over policy. That’s not the point. This is a history podcast and Nathaniel’s history is excellent. He’s well researched and uses excellent, easy to verify sources. You can disagree with his political conclusions, but as far as the history goes, he’s one of the best in this business. If you not only love history, but challenging thought, this is a must listen.

tried to give it another chance, but listening to the episode about the Ark and hearing the word “fundamentalist christian” said 50x within 5 minutes in a condescending tone really drives the point home that this is a liberal atheist podcast who just wants to mock the topics it covers. shame, because the subject matter could be interesting if just discussed normally.

Ok so far but
I’m a late arrival. Currently listening to Firebrand in the Reichstag. He gets a little to political, obviously a liberal which is ok, but going to alienate me if it continues the bias. Hope not. Update: he’s lost me. He can’t keep his liberal bias out of history (I have two history degrees and pride myself on trying to stick to facts)The episode where he said Southern Soldiers fought to maintain slavery because they hoped to have a plantation themselves someday is ludicrous. I’m a career Soldier, I fought for my country regardless of wether or not I agreed with the reasons. Northern Soldiers by in large didn’t fight to free slaves either. Most (including the officers) fought for their State because they were called to do so, just like the Southerners.

I’m surprised this guy asks for donations since he’s probably getting Pentagon funding- maybe his money requests are “cover” or a round about way to get dark money- Hint- If you are going to try to debunk a conspiracy claim- learn and deeply understand the conspiracy- This show seems more of a way to brainwash people who haven’t researched a topic- You probably think MK Ultra is a conspiracy too even though it was exposed in Congress.

I want so badly to like this show
This show should be fun. It’s got neat little bits and pieces from history, it’s got conspiracy, occult stuff… really everything you’d be looking at for a fun podcast to listen to while commuting or out for a jog. But I just can’t. Somehow Nathaniel takes every single topic and makes it so dull you want to fall asleep. Whether it’s the monotone voice or just how he portrays everything in the dullest manner imaginable I couldn’t quite tell you, but it shows. I feel he’s be an excellent research assistant for another show. His data is always great. The incidents he digs up are fun! But I don’t know that he’s really suited for hosting.

The use of blindness is derogatory.
For a podcast that is supposedly historically aware and thinking outside the box I must decry the blatant ignorance. The use of the word blindness as a metaphor for stupidity and ignorance is categorically unhelpful to the blind community. Not to mention the numerous references to the word blind as stupid and ignorant. Makes me sit on the edge of my seat waiting for the episode that tells me how brilliant the parable of the blind men and the elephant is. You may think it is nothing but that is so untrue. As a blind person I know firsthand how much it does matter as I find myself dismissed and kicked to the curb for no other reason than being blind. I get talked past as if I have no ability to reason with my mind. I experience the deterioration of the usefulness of technology as companies focus more and more on making things easier for sighted people and run down the tools that were set aside for blind individuals. The way that Blind is used in our language affects the way our society treats blind people. With your greater awareness, prove me wrong. But, I wish I had a nickel for each time I corrected someone who finally understood and told me I meant no harm. Historical blindness for a podcast name question let’s say it as it is. You are simply ignorant.

Too woke
Started well but went down into a character assassination of C. Columbus. The fact the both you and your guest Moxie kept on calling others “apologists” is embarrassing. Next time invite traditionalist historian to bring some balance to the podcast. I listened cause I wanted to know more about Columbus but ended up listening to your opinions, which are IMHO partially out of context and unfair to the Conquistador and Navigator. Of course most of them were looking for glory and Money but you really made him look worse than Mao or Stalin. Good effort nonetheless.

Really?
For a podcast that discusses the many times science got it wrong (in hindsight)...to encourage a vaccine that took less than a year to produce? How irresponsible and ignorant. One can support the science of immune therapy and vaccinations while advocating for the safety of said vaccines and the ability to sue said companies without being “anti-vax”. Injecting anything into my body that was rushed is a big no thanks...especially if you’re a student of science history. It’s not even a vaccine, technically. It was only the early 2000’s they began to discover issues with some of the early polio vaccines given in the 50’s-60’s. Seriously, HOW do you dispel “myths” for a vaccine that is so new and pushed through so quickly? The truth is you couldn’t possibly know. Unsubscribed.

This started out really interesting! I have enjoyed older episodes but something has changed... I can’t put a finger on it. I just don’t enjoy listening to these anymore. Would’ve donated until I heard the pure propaganda and misinformation in the “Israel” episode. One need simply look at today and the last few centuries to see that a certain group has and at this point, has all but won their “war on Christendom”. I’m not religious, but their “war” stretches beyond just attacking Christianity or religion in general... it attacks countries and entire nations of people, all who aren’t them in fact. Reality and present day life is the best catalyst for revealing the truth, which is the opposite of your stance.

Thanks for injecting your political slant into you podcast and ruining it. I’m just glad it happened on my third episode and I didn’t invest hours of listening before having to sit through political indoctrination and revisionist history. Pure garbage. Also the endless looping background music is quite annoying and the rhythm and cadence of your speech is very distracting. It’s too bad
I have been listening for a long time. It’s too bad that some people leaving one star reviews can’t read the title. The word “blindness” is in there for a reason. This is more than just a “here are some facts for you to draw your own opinions” podcast. The podcast does what it sets out to do. And it does it well. Odd that people rate a show based on what they want it to do. I give this podcast one star because it doesn’t help me learn French. 😀

More questions than answers in the best way possible
While each episode is packed with information, the best part is the way he doesn’t give answers where there are none. As the title suggests, this is a show about what we can’t know and yet what we do know is often incredible and still gives a lot of insight into the way we have thought about the world in the past, what we thought was worth recording and how we chose to record it. Lloyd does a great job of picking and telling stories and each episode has a through blog entry on his sight with more info, sources and pictures. If you like history, pick at least one episode to try.

Self care is very important and I do hope that you bounce back. We are all experiencing major life changes. It’s brave of you to share your struggles but also comforting to know that we aren’t the alone in this crazy time in history. Your show is very informative and thought provoking. Makes me wonder how this decade will be remembered.

A real gem
This could not be a more timely podcast. For those that think of history as some dry, irrelevant subject to be mastered in school and then forgotten, Nathaniel shows us how incredibly relevant the lessons of the past remain. I’ve been around long enough to see the same mistakes repeated within my own lifetime with apparent obliviousness to what has gone before. Incredibly well researched, fascinating topics, balanced presentation and well produced. My favorite episodes are those that shed light on how we got to where we are now even though I know Nathaniel has gotten some grief for it. Please keep up the good work. Highly recommended!

Narcissistic Blindness
While trying to find unbiased historical information that unveiled the nuances of the past, this pod cast was initially appreciated, until the author’s true narcissism and blindness comes into light by injecting comparisons of current political climate and using knowledge of some history as a bully pulpit to degrade the actors of the current age whom do not subscribe to his political leanings. Loosing my faith in professional educators staying out of politics and offering objective views on history and other information🤮

Punk
As you have said on your podcast, history can be subjective. Especially if you don’t have the facts or that history is written by the victors. Your sin is you reject the facts to promote a failed ideology that promotes the highest levels of human suffering in history! The flaw is in the content of your character! You have become a punk.

Eh...
I didn’t care much for the approach. Sort of a “Hey, come listen to this interesting podcast about an absurd alternative theory” approach, rather than an objective dive into an “interesting alternative view” approach. The obvious bias with which they presented the topic I listened to turned me off immediately. It’s one thing to make it plain that a particular point of view is controversial or even widely disputed. But to disregard the validity of a matter altogether as an introduction is wholly unprofessional. I like to decide for myself whether the information I’m presented with is useful or not.

Great Topics, Poor Delivery
I really wanted to like this podcast, but the way it’s produced just wasn’t enjoyable. The background music is often too loud and distracting; if music is used in a podcast, it needs to be subtle and ambient. In addition, the narration is over-enunciated, stiff, and unnatural. At least throw in a contraction every once in a while!

I discovered Historical Blindness when I came over to Apple Podcasts from YouTube. I was following another channel over to their podcast format (The BrainFood Show) and Historical Blindness was a suggested podcast. I have really enjoyed Historical Blindness. I really appreciated Historical Blindness bringing other podcast creators over for guest spots. Because of that I have been able to find other very enjoyable podcasts like Your Brain on Facts. Ideology not history
The creator admits no historical training which is painfully obvious from many episodes. Unfortunately this podcast, while having much potential, is more about his liberal agenda then reasoned fact. See, e.g., the initial episode’s diatribe against Trump, the poorly reasoned revisionist account of Columbus and the latest episode yet again presenting unsubstantiated liberal claims. For those who want to hear the typical party line liberal ideology, this is for you. If you’re looking for interesting historical insights, look elsewhere.

Right off the bat, the first episode is politically charged
Not three minutes in and we get our first veiled Trump reference. I’m sorry, but I don’t want to hear about how a podcast was created in haste because the creator disliked the rhetoric of an unnamed but obvious presidential candidate. I want to feel like I’m listening to a well planned show, not something that was started in a rush because of prisoner-of-the-moment, reactionary politics. I understand that we can learn lessons from history, and that there are parallels in history everywhere, but I get enough exposure to politics on my phone, computer, tv, and from my coworkers. We are literally saturated in it. Your listeners should be able to escape into a historical time and place and then draw their own conclusions about their own lives. The heavy-handedness is tiring. Also, I understand that history departments are very much skewed to the left, but the best history podcasts out there—Hardcore History, History on Fire, and to a lesser extent, Our Fake History—are good because they feel so authentically personalized and unbiased. I know we all bring our own views and beliefs to the table in every aspect of our lives, but when starting a business venture, you need to keep in mind that others will have different viewpoints than you, and you are turning off a decent percentage of your listeners by starting so opinionated from the very first minutes of the very first episode.

Pretty good so far- sometimes too short
Seems like right when it gets interesting, it’s over. To all of the partisan reviewers who keep saying things like: “keep politics out of it” “Typical Libtard” “Leftish propaganda” You should take your own advice! Leave politics out of your review. Try using examples, facts, or sources. You’re just coming off as a child who disagrees because they feel like they should defend their “team” no matter what. If you’re that scared to challenge your own ideas and feelings, that means you know your opinions won’t hold up to scrutiny. An open mind doesn’t mean “lefty progressive”, it mean someone who is open to new ideas and one who is willing to learn or change if new information is given. If you’ve held the same ideas, feelings and opinions on politics since you were a teenager, chances are you still are one...mentally. Both sides.

Superficial, callow propaganda that adds nothing to “the conversation”
Breathlessly earnest as he may be, the host and producer adds little of value to the discussion of the topics he broaches.. tired, politically correct, juvenile... a lot self-congratulatory high-fiving about “myth-busting”...lame... indeed, worse than lame because it’s part of that anti-democratic echo chamber where people seek only to justify their pre-conceptions, much better podcasts out there

Great listen
High production value, interesting topics, and solid research come together to make this a great listen. Even when covering subjects I know well, I always come away knowing more or with a slightly different perspective. My only mild critique would be that at times the background music becomes foreground music and it’s hard to hear the host. I generally like the music- it goes a long way to set the mood - but just in a few places it gets a bit loud.

I wanted to like this
I found this podcast because I’m a fan of the conspirators podcast. The stories here sounded fascinating. The author has a real talent, and the production is great. Which makes me sad that after listening to about half the episodes, I realized I couldn’t take any more. The podcast has a reoccurring problem of going off into weird lefty fantasyland or throwing out odd insults at unnecessary times in stories that have nothing to do with politics. I get that some people have strong feelings on politics, but not everything has to be about hating Trump or leftist virtue signaling. The first episode was literally a warning not to vote for Trump because we’d have a nuclear war. I listened because there were some interesting stories and I wanted to learn something. I don’t need sermons or one off insults, particularly given that since the start of the podcast, the opposite of all the gloom and doom predictions has happened. If the author absolutely has to focus on politics, maybe he should just do a political podcast. Just don’t do the bait and switch.

Endlessly fascinating
I'm forever searching for podcasts that cover subjects that aren't constantly recycled by every other show or author out there, and this is exactly what I want. The stories cover things that I only have some vague awareness of, and never shy away from those tales that don't yeild snappy cognitive closure. Be warned: if you don't like to hear what really happened in the past and instead prefer to cling to nebulous 'beliefs' about how people and events went down, you won't like this. Personally, I think that makes it even better. History isn't about what you wish.

- Historical Blindness Sep 1 · 6m AMERICAN SCANDAL: SnowdenThe terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, took a large toll on America’s sense of security. In the dawn of this new era, Congress moved to take swift action by creating the Patriot Act. This four-part series from American Scandal follows Edward Snowden’s transformation, from a respected intelligence officer, to the most wanted whistleblower in the world.
