Typical liberal hit piece
Interesting story but it’s too bad the host injected her liberal opinions the entire series. Trying to portray a law breaking border jumping criminal as a hero is a bit much. There is a process to enter this country and these ppl are no more special or important than the immigrants who enter the right way.
Yay!!😊😊😊❤️❤️❤️💓

An engaging story
Mr Kid’s poor family is put through the wringer as his self-serving, selective morality drives him to engage in illegal activities. Yes, I was rooting for him, but he is no hero. He is the Walter White of human smuggling.

Sad reality of society as told by a dumb smuggler
Not really rating low the show but rating low the whole situation with elden kidd. Some Orta are hard to listen to with him being so dumb and selfish in so many ways. He ruined his family who are a nice, wholesome, and faithful family who appear to have forgiven elden despite the horrible situation he put his family in. He’s a selfish traitor to our country’s laws and standards. He put his own needs for a thrill seeking job above the laws of the land, his better judgment, and even the best interests of others. He was a “successful” coyote many times except for the times he was caught and imprisoned . The show passes him off as smarter than law enforcement even though he’s a low level idiot thinking that his scammer tactics were ingenious. He was a scammer his whole life. He started scamming tourists and clients who paid him to be a tour guide. He couldn’t cut it on his mission as an LDS missionary either. It’s sad how his “successes” as a coyote and human smuggler are resulting in false hopes for others who also try and cross the border, albeit unsuccessfully. He doesn’t think about how much good he could have done by helping those who had already crossed the border by helping transition them, or helping asylum seekers, or even those going through hardships. Just getting people across the border for a self indulging illegal career is hardly admirable despite the justification for his actions. Crossing illegally and side stepping those waiting in line for legalization into the US should be deported immediately. Furthermore, despite 3 years in jail and his wife and family waiting for him, he turned again to the illegal people smuggling life. This resulted in him ultimately losing his family. Makes me sad hat he hurt so many people Including his family, but his wife should have been arrested as well as an accomplice. There is a propaganda feel to the podcast with the host hinting that our immigration laws are bogus and that anyone should just be able to cross the border whenever they want, unchecked. She herself came over to the us illegally but still has a sense of Mexican pride although not one strong enough to want to live in Mexico. There are many people who make a great life for themselves in Mexico- but many don’t want to put the work in. They would rather leave to come do it in the US leaving Mexico to become what it is. Finally, glad that the podcast provides a great deal of secrets that hopefully border patrol get wind of and not fall for the cheap tricks that elden got away with.

AMERICAN LOSER
The real story: A man cheats on his wife many times while being a coyote. He abandons his wife. Abandons his own young children. Then he remarries a Mexican woman with two infant children and has the balls to say, “I have a very maternal instinct”, which is laughable of course since he abandoned his first family. But you won’t learn this till the last episode when they casually slip it in and give the host Andrea Lopez-Villafaña the embarrassing task of delivering a cringeworthy line of dialogue about his first wife being the “unsung hero” of this entire podcast! Incredible. Completely disingenuous since they just spent 9 episodes glorifying this loser for not growing up and taking care of his family and instead choosing to abandon his family.

Amazing Story Well Told
This was a great podcast that told an amazing story from different views. For those saying this gets political, well yes, it would be almost impossible to tell the story without referencing the politics at play affecting the outcome of this man’s story. However I never felt that the political discussion was biased, but very straightforward in how it relates to the story. Not until the last 20 minutes of the last episode do you get the narrator’s story and why she felt the life of Elden Kidd was so important to tell to others.

Good show til episodes 9 & 10 where a hidden agenda started to show. Politics do not need to be involved in everything. Also, if you’re going to pronounce “coyote” do it the same each time. Sometimes it was perfect English, sometimes perfect Spanish and sometimes English with Spanish flair.

Over the top excepts for the ads. Long ads during the podcast, not just at the beginning. So I was going to give 4 stars. But then I saw that the only low ratings were front right wing conspiracy theorists, my rating changed to 5. Do not miss out out on the excellent storytelling and production. 5 stars well deserved. Thank you!
Love the complexity built into this flawed-hero narrative and the novel take on an oft-politicized issue. Also as a side note, to everyone who can’t listen to this because of the young female host’s voice... GET OVER IT! She’s young and doing more than you are. Also, literally every young woman who hosts a podcast gets that critique “I didn’t like her voice for some reason...” Perhaps y’all just hate the sound of young women’s voices? That’s quite sad for you! Props also to the show for recognizing and exploring the pain of the family whose lives were upended by the “heroics” of their father/husband. And for the people who believe that all laws are meant to be obeyed...slavery was legal, Jim Crow was legal, laws barring women from voting were legal. So yeah, “it’s illegal” is not always the BEST way to make your argument stick. But real cute for trying! Also FYI google CIA intervention in Latin America to get some history lessons on why there’s such a migrant crisis at our southern border. ❤️🤷♀️

Humanizes The Border
Episodes 9 & 10 are especially powerful. US citizens should really be made aware of what the real effects are of dumping more and more money into building walls, border enforcement agencies and dehumanizing people who cross the border for asylum and an opportunity to support themselves and their families financially.

Love that this pisses off the trumpers
This is a great podcast. Well told and beautifully written. The US border is a mess a trump and his scum republikkkan agenda has made it 1000x worse. Elden is a hero for having compassion and caring about human beings. Love love love this and hope trumpers can learn some compassion while listening to it (but I doubt it)

Marijuana
I thought he was being extremely naive about transporting things across the border in his “friends” motor home. At that point, he had been in the game long enough to know how things worked. Therefore I think he was either naive or knew what was going on. Thank goodness marijuana is being legalized in many places so people don’t have to suffer anymore for using it.

One man’s conscience to do good....
Sometimes in life, you run across the story or someone who was willing to lose it all for the good of others and whose conscience would not give him peace until he helped the last one. I find it challenging to blame the historically insufficient and poorly manages US immigration policies on the immigrants. As a mom, I would do anything to provide for my children, including but not limited to finding a place to be safe and to live and thrive. The eternal optimist 🙂

Making a criminal a hero
Just over the top with political/personal agenda. He is a criminal in 2 countries and the podcast is written and edited to make him a hero and victim. Would have been much better without the personal agenda, and presented as a true account of events.

Good story, but irrelevant political side plots and not the best host voice.
I enjoyed the main story of Elden Kidd, however I’m not impressed with some of the side plots - episode nine features a former border patrol’s experience, while her story is tragic it seemed very irrelevant to the rest of the podcast and seemed it was used to through the border patrol in an unfair light. Perhaps it would be good to turn the side story into a separate podcast?

amazing and beautiful story
first i want to respond to some of the other reviews because i don’t believe they’re fair. this podcast does not push “liberal ideas”. human decency and having compassion for others is called being a good person, stop trying to make it political. also, the background information about the political climate of the country at that time is very pertinent to the story. so yes karen those political facts are important. anyways, this podcast is beautifully written. i was a bit skeptical at first about the narrators voice - i will admit - but after an episode i was hooked! what an amazing opportunity this is to be able to see the world through this point of view. my parents were crossed over when they were young, so getting some insight on what was like for the people who did this regularly and how it worked is so insightful. this podcast made me smile, want to cry, angry and hopeful. i love the story, and i wish Elden all the best in life.

This was so compelling I couldn’t turn it off so I just binged it. I thought the narrator in the beginning I found her voice to be a little distracting but as time went on and the story got more and more compelling her narration just seem to fit it perfectly. I give her five stars as well and then to find out at the end it’s a personal story. This is the teacher that we should be more compassionate and the people that have risked everything including their lives to come here are the ones we should listen to to gain an appreciation for our country. It’s hardly perfect here but you never hear of anybody trying to sneak in to Russia. Thank you for this great listen.

Mixed Feelings but still a 5🌟
Ok, so for all of the reviews bashing the host, if you listen to the credits, I’m pretty sure she’s just the person narrating the story, not necessarily the person who wrote it. Secondly, I believe this story is important for a few reasons. 1. We do need to be aware of the desperation of people trying to flee a horrible life in another country. It’s America, this is what we are all about (supposedly) opportunity! 2. Elden is for sure a hero in his own way, albeit he did illegal stuff but he was a risk taker and he truly wanted to help people. His unorthodox way of making money is no different than the Wall Street wolves who control markets and create glut in the middle class American’s ability to profit on the same market. 3. You can tell Elden is a really, truly, good person. 4. I DO agree that his prison time and criminal activity should not be glorified. Only mentioned as fact. Otherwise this is a great podcast, eye opening, makes me care more about the unfortunate people out there.

I just can’t stop listening
I was first very skeptical about this podcast however as I listen moreI couldn’t stop listening. It really gives you an inside look on immigration. I’m a Trump supporter and was big on build that wall until I listened to this but it really gives you the insight of the struggling families that risk it all for a better life. Most of those immigrants they have lived a productive life in this country. I’m kind of torn between the main character is he a hero or a bad father. He did help a lot of people but neglected his children his wife and the people who helped him the first time. This is one of the best podcasts I have ever listen to. It’s so well put together and she does a great job narrating.

I binged this entire series. The story was very compelling and intriguing. Personally, I think Elden was a hero. There is nothing wrong with people wanting to go somewhere where they can actually live a better life. Whether it’s fleeing violence or poverty, or just wanting a change of scenery. It should not be so hard. Let’s not make it hard to live the way we want. Life’s too short.

Trash. This podcast would’ve been better as a fiction.
Completely bias & inaccurately one-sided (leftist). This is written & narrated by someone who was in the U.S. unlawfully. She tries to make the coyote, who abandoned his wife and children to instead spent his life as a career criminal unlawfully smuggling undocumented aliens into the United States, a victim of the system in this podcast. And not once does she use the term “human trafficking”. As a professional minion that works in crime in a border state maybe I can educate this girl: Many who are voluntarily smuggled into the U.S. are forced into sex trafficking or wage slavery. Those are the victims. Not you. Not your coyote.

Great podcast
This is a great story of Elden Kidd and his experience of being a coyote. He did something that he felt it was his calling to help people looking for better way of life. He even mentions it in the end when he’s talking to Andrea. Yeah he’s helping them come over to what they believe will be a better life but sometimes it’s not always a better life. Before people start writing him off. He knows what he was doing was “criminal.” No one is out here is saying, “yay coyotes! Woo hop!” For people reviewing saying this is lefty propaganda obviously did not listen to the entire podcast which is typical of them because they are the type to read a headline and go off their keyboard rants of conspiracies... But to the people out there wondering if they should give this podcast a listen, please do. I found it quite interesting and riveting. It’s a story of Elden Kidd and his experience of being a coyote. Sure I wish we heard more about the families lives he brought over, the border patrol’s corruptions, the immigration laws of the United States...etc. This podcast could be a perfect Segway for the different avenues it touched on. However it’s a story of an American Coyote and what a great story it was! I loved the last episode and learning about the host and her story. I thought this podcast was just absolutely wonderful. Thank you elden Kidd for taking us on your journey. And thank you Andrea for being a great host!

Amazing Story!
Growing up on the border, this podcast took me back in time to when San Diego and Tijuana was almost one huge city. People would cross back and forth from both sides of the border like two families living next to each other. It also brought me back to today’s reality of how the crack down on immigration has damage families caught in the middle of the battle for generations to come. Andrea said it best… Even though laws and walls have been are made to controls who makes up America, it is rebels like Elden who break the rules to preserve the original American Ideal. Which is that this country be the land of opportunity for anyone willing to risk it all. I hope they make a movie, series or documentary of this amazing story.

Yes But
Great material and potential, but overproduced and overly reliant on larger-than-life subject for content. He’s mostly telling his own story, the narrator has a worshipful tone, and it doesn’t feel fact-checked much at all (granted, the nature of the story makes it very hard to fact-check). No discussion of moral questions of breaking the law, deception, or endangering his own family. No depth or complexity on immigration issues (and I’m a lefty). A compelling listen, but could have been great.

Struggling
The podcast itself is fine but I’m having trouble with calling crimes against your country or community “okay”...trustworthy reputation for others or not. Why is this fine? Fitting for the year we just came through. What does this say about the folks from other countries who come to the States lawfully?

Coyote is selling wolf tickets
This podcast is entertaining, but the interviewee “coyote” is clearly selling wolf tickets. He is a story teller, and he is relying on pretty dangerous stereotypes of Mexico and Mexicans to entertain. Listen for fiction not for facts. Disappointing!

Not a hero but a criminal.
Coyotes are not hero’s they are criminals that are responsible for drug smuggling, human trafficking, sexual assault etc.... definitely not a hero.

Waaaay too much extraneous detail
Coyote has what is a common podcast problem: the story is stretched beyond this listener’s capacity to wait for it to get to some kind of point. How does all of this background contribute to the story? It’s what we call “a notebook dump.” Also, as other listeners have pointed out, the narrator’s voice is so tiny and childlike, it’s difficult to listen to for long.

Entertaining podcast but
The host does a good job with the podcast the she pronounces every other word except for pretentiousness of how she says coyotes. kai·ow·tee

Excellent
Wonderful and compelling true story. Waiting for a new episode every week is hard. I think about Eldon and this story all week and launch the new episodes the moment they are available. This is the way podcasting should be.

Captivating
This is such a powerful story. I wouldn’t be surprised if it got brought to the silver screen someday. But I loved this podcast, it’s extremely well done and it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I highly recommend!

So many reviews from ignorant racists lol. Hope you clowns realize you’re a dying breed. Great podcast! F what these klan members say, Eldon was a good dude and did his work for the right reasons. No different than the bank robbing cowboys everyone else seems to love.

This podcast is not about Coyotes!
This podcast (episode 1) only focuses on redeeming the guy’s image to the broader public. The quintessential white people excuse - he had a rough upbringing, therefore he did what he did. What about the kids he recklessly divide to smuggle across the bother? No sympathy about their lives and their families?

This story doesn’t pass the sniff test
Mr. Kidd’s claim to have saved an IRA leader from death when he was a Mormon missionary in Northern Ireland, getting a newspaper headline for doing so, and having to flee the country is beyond credulity. No evidence that the producers of this podcast did one iota of fact checking. If you are looking for thrilling, fantastic fiction, this podcast may be your thing. But Mr. Kidd is clearly a story teller.

Cheesy
I find the music and language choices completely cheesy and stereotypical. This podcast reinforces a lot of negative stereotypes about Mexico. The use of voice actors with forced accents is offensive as well. The story is interesting and I find it really strange that the creators felt a need to “dress” up the podcast so much with music and ideas that just reenforce this idea of backwardness and cultural misrepresentation.

Great storytelling, great listen!
It has been a good while since I found a storytelling podcast that I couldn’t put down, and I am so glad I found this one! This is why I listen to podcasts. It has highs, lows, humor, sadness. You root for the hero at times, and wonder if he’s lost at others. It’s well put together and really sets the stage with the music, narration, and interviews all woven together perfectly. This is just what I’ve been looking for lately and boy did it hit the spot!

More Eileen!
Eldon’s daughter is a friend so I had heard her stories of her felon father. Despite my anti-illegal immigration views, I found this podcast fascinating. Only recommendations- more stories from Eileen! She’s hilarious and can have whole rooms rolling so wouldn’t hurt to put more to balance the heavy serious portions. What a juxtaposition it was for her growing up Mormon while dad is openly breaking the law! My jaw was on the floor the first time she told me. More of her John Jacob Jingle Heiner Schmidt stories please! Also, Mormons don’t go to church 3 times a day. The buildings aren’t even open during the weekdays except for special activities (nor were they back then). Might want to correct that and the name of the church in the first episode in case the podcast reaches a broader LDS audience because of the main players being Mormon.

Seriously?
Trying to evoke compassion for human traffickers is despicable and irresponsible. There may be some good coyotes, but the vast majority of them abuse and endanger those they are smuggling into America.

A Hero We Need Right Now
Regardless of your views on immigration, this story about a man who broke the law to help both his family and those who were in search of a better life is as noble and purely American as it gets. Breaking the rules for the chance at a better life is the story of our times right now isn’t it? Can’t wait to see what else happens in this wild tale, Elden Kidds wit and humor is endlessly entertaining!

Great voice actors
I honestly can’t figure out if this is a real person or a scripted faux documentary? It’s not really made clear - Eldon and the characters really sound like they are being interviewed in a documentary film. The writing is believable and the actors’ Southern California accents and style of speaking are so natural sounding. So far a good start

Not a hero
The law was broken. If anyone thinks this person is a hero then you better be ok with Trump and his illegal activities. If someone robs you, you better not be mad, they were just being a "hero".
