A truck driver searches across America for the wife she had long assumed was dead. In the course of her search, she will encounter not-quite-human serial murderers, towns literally lost in time, and a conspiracy that goes way beyond one missing woman.

Interesting premise but just terribly executed. Moments of silence and what it up with the music at the end.

It does a good job of creating suspense but the actually storyline when it's unveiled was really unsatisfying . I feel like I wasted time.

Over and over
I’ve listened to this entire podcast three times now. And about to start the book for the second time. There’s something about the story and Jasika Nicole’s voice that really soothes me. Obviously the story is not soothing exactly, but it’s my go to when I’m stressed and need to relax. I love the music at the end. I love all of it. Please collaborate again, soon!!

Phenomenal
The first 2 seasons are just so good, and I love this series so much. The third season was a let down for me, but I still think this is a fantastically crafted and performed series well worth your time.

Impressed!!
I’ve really been looking for a good mysterious story to listen to during my days at work. This is perfect! It’s gripping, thrilling, exciting! Keeps you on the edge of your feet! The ambience can make it a little creepy, but it’s an excellent podcast! I’m not super generous with my reviews, so there are two small reasons for the four-star. Sometimes, the storyteller/narrator Will go off on tangents. She’ll be telling one full and intriguing story, and then she will completely start talking about something else from her past. While I understand the development of the characters, sometimes this can get confusing and make me want to fast forward through to get back to the exciting story. And I do see what people are talking about when it comes to the whole political thing. Really no reason to add in how she hates the country and how it’s so racist. It literally has nothing to do with the story so totally unnecessary. Outside of those two things, this podcast is excellent and every time I put my AirPods in, I get real excited to listen!!

So Boring
I loved Jasika Nicole on Fringe, but this is just a complete waste of her talent. The writing is bad and there is no point to any of it. I suffered through two episodes before I was forced to abandon it.

Good story tainted by the writer’s political lecturing
The story is engaging, the acting is strong, and the production is excellent…and then the periodic political posturing seeps in here and there. And it’s often very distasteful. I personally found that it significantly detracts from the underlying story and is thus unnecessary.

My all-time favorite podcast
Alice Isn’t Dead is the first podcast I recommend when people ask for something a little dark and creepy. Of course, it completely ruins them for other podcasts, but I can’t help that. Phenomenal writing, excellent acting, and a story that manages to make me tear up even as it creeps me out. It’s a love story and it’s a hero story and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Highly recommend.

Great story, annoying political commentary.
This podcast is very intriguing and interesting, however the main character continues to have this annoyingly anti-American monologue and I find it quite distasteful and unnecessary to the story.

Great First 2 Seasons, 3rd was ok
Really enjoyed the first 2 seasons of the podcast. I really loved the characters, the settings, everything. The third fell flat in a major way. Did not love the resolution and felt some of the acting was a little lacking.

Must listen
Although I am only getting started with Alice Isn’t Dead, three episodes in to be exact, I must confess my unconditional enjoyment revolving around this podcast. I wouldn’t consider myself a podcast enthusiast by any means, in fact—this is probably the first one I have ever invested real time into. Despite this inexperience, Joseph Fink has completely blown me away with this work. Jasika Nicole, too, has successfully tied every episode together fluently with her engaging narration. I stumbled across the podcast from a school assignment. Some internet browsing lead me right into Fink’s renowned work of Welcome to Night Vale. The concepts within this podcast interested me greatly, but unfortunately it was off limits since another student had selected it. Luckily, I was saved through my discovery of a similar series composed by Fink. Thus, Alice Isn’t Dead would be my next endeavor. The first episode, “Omelet”, was surely not a ‘dipping my feet in’ kind of ordeal. I would consider this episode a leap right off the high dive straight into the series, leaving me itching to watch more. Keisha and the mysterious Alice are both introduced in this opener, along with the creepy man from the diner. This man—called the ‘Thistle Man’ I believe, was easily the most memorable part from any of the episodes. This was most likely because of how brutally violent and chilling he was, and because of his presumed ties to Alice brought up in the third episode, “Nothing to See”. With this, if I could ask the host any question it would be something along the lines of—How did Night Vale inspire the ideas of Alice? Would you say there is any interrelationship between the characters and settings of each separate series? I would ask these questions simply because I would love to uncover what allows him to come up with such creative plots. Regardless, I am super excited to continue Alice Isn’t Dead in the future, and most likely Welcome to Night Vale once I am done. I am really hoping that I figure out what Alice’s whole deal was soon—simply because that’s technically what the podcast seems to be about... for now.

Odd but lovely
Came into the series originally day 1 and didn’t know what to think of it but ended up not liking it due to the radio sound check-in before reports. But then when we finally had an episode not about the monster, I actually fell into it and became majorly interested. Then fell down the rabbit hole that was right next to the sea factory. An I really enjoyed this podcast. As I listened to the 1 off you guys did after the finale and I wouldn’t mind a season 2 where it is just about diving into the mysteries of the US. Like maybe add gravity falls wish a nightvale-esk episode or Mexico and theChupacabra, or heck maybe even have them drive through and break down in nightvale for an ep or two. Good recommendation.👍🏻

Starts strong, loses gas in final season
Hi, just wanna say, the show has such a great start, but it really kinda putters out in the final season. You can only wax rhapsodic and philosophic about road culture for so long before it starts getting repetitive. It’s fine for a morning commute but it really gets old after a while if you pay too close of attention.

I like it well enough
Its a pretty good podcast, have it at 4 stars because there is like 4 minutes of EXTREMELY IRRITATING synthetic key board music at the end of every episode, between that and the dumb chicken jokes the last 5 Minutes of every episode is absolute ear torture. Which means i have to stop what I’m doing, pull my phone out of my pocket and skip to the next episode. Its completely unnecessary and adds nothing to the show. I really don’t understand why it’s there, I guess they wanted one less star for me?🤷♂️

A slow decline
Season 1: is perhaps the most innovative and addictive podcast I’ve ever heard. I was in absolute amazement. Season 2: wasn’t nearly as good as season 1, but it was still a great podcast and kept me interested from start to end. Stop listening after season 2. Season 3: Trash. Disappointing. Lazy. Awful. I refuse to believe the same person who wrote the first season had anything to do with this god awful waist of time. What a disappointment. I was going to read the book as soon as I finished this podcast, but after this, no way will I waste another moment of my time with this.

Why does Kesha have no weapons?
Seems like a major hole in the story, they make Kesha seem tactful and smart, yet she carries no weapons for protection and hurtles herself into danger. Still, overall a good story.

The producers of Alice isn’t dead have developed a well written podcast and have created a master pieces. Though some may not in joy the show they are missing out on an amazing podcast, not just the twists and turns that are given as the plot thickens but the development of characters, not just the main character but side characters as well. The podcast is a grand roller coaster taking the listener into the podcast to find Alice making the listener feel like they are in the truck and or feeling like they are Alice and though the show may scared those who are younger or do no joy some sort of intense thrill it is a fantastic podcast with not just thrills but calm episodes where listener may relaxes more. Making Alice isn’t dead a master pieces.

Very boring
The whole podcast is just one person telling a story as if they are talking to Alice the whole time it’s extremely boring and nothing too exciting happens there’s not enough audio stimulation it’s really just her voice the whole time. The book is most likely much much better. The podcast seems to be written in a more novel format then podcast story format.

Confusing, random and slow
I love scripted podcasts. The ensemble of voice actors, the worlds they create through sound effects - there’s so much creative opportunity in the space. Alice Isn’t Dead, however, is more akin to an audio book, where one narrator is reading everything... at least I think so. If there are multiple voice actors, I can’t tell them apart. I’m honestly so confused by who the narrator is representing at any given time. And then the writing... dear lord, it’s trying so hard to be taken seriously, it’s like an 8 year old boy puffing up his chest to try and fit in with the big kids. Wanted to like it, but it’s turning out to be a waste of time.

This podcast is so addicting to listen to! It is super suspenseful and gave me chills! The descriptions are so vivid that I can see in my head exactly what the narrator sees. I really wanted to like this and based on the reviews, I thought I would. But it’s just so painful. Nothing good ever comes from using three “big” words when one simple word will do. Overwrought writing doesn’t make it lyrical, it just makes it clumsy and irritating.

What happened?
I was loving this podcast... until season three. What happened?!?! I’m not talking about the story, I’m just talking about the overall quality. The voice of Alice is so bland and hard to listen to- in such stark contrast to Jasika Nicole. She’s brilliant. It killed it for me- how could her vivid character be so in love with the bland, boring Alice? Also- what happened to the recording quality in season 3? Literally had to stop listening at some points. You let a great thing down with those huge missteps.

Stop listening after S1
I heard amazing reviews of this and would’ve given it five stars if it stopped with season 1. That season was a great mix of creepy and engaging stories. Season 2 was pretty boring, but I hoped it would get better in season 3. I only made it through a couple episodes and wish I’d saved my time. The new/ newly introduced characters in seasons two and three are mind numbingly dull, and the storyline goes nowhere.

Terrific
Yes, it seemed to lose steam toward the end (rushed conclusion), but that doesn’t change the fact it’s a well-acted and produced, imaginative and original, creepy tale. Could so easily have fallen into the ‘creepy vignette of the week’ genre, but doesn’t. At the same time, I learned such interesting tidbits about various locales. It’s a feature used by other, equally popular (but far less enjoyable) podcasts, but with Alice it blends better, is more cohesive with the overall narrative. Heard the latest episode and hope there IS a future for more ‘Alice’ tales. You’ve got a dedicated listener, here. And, thank you!

It’s a good story.
So far the story is great. The truck driver’s voice is very sweet and soothing. The “host” or whatever, the guy who talks in the beginning and blabbers about chickens at the end, his voice sounds like he has 17 marshmallows in his mouth. I can’t stand to hear it, y’all. Beyond that, they play literally 3 minutes of music at the end. The episode ends with about 5 minutes left, the marshmallow mouth guy blabbers about a chicken for like 2 minutes, and then we listen to music. Why? Stop doing that, and you will have an absolutely gold story here.

Interesting but wish the editing were better
The story is entertaining. It kind of slows down at points but it still has lots of great ideas and is well written. The announcer/creator Joseph Fink speaks over pauses with this silly endless “why did the chicken cross the road” riddle which really detracts from the story and is just dumb. It’s grating and has a “guy in high school English class who thinks he’s being profound but is just being unintentionally annoying” feel to it. Joseph delete this type of filler (honestly total fail) and you have a really promising future in my opinion.

Senseless barrage of rabbit holes
At first, I was intrigued by this show. But after listening to the first two seasons I’ve learned that Joseph Fink only knows how create the illusion of intrigue without any of it paying off. This is just a bunch of dead end subplots that bury the weak overarching narrative. He even has a confusing segment about why the chicken crossed the road that I’m not even sure he understands. If you want an audio drama that has episodes that are creepy, all serve a purpose to the mystery, and are thoroughly researched, check out The Black Tapes.

Unfulfilling in Many Ways
Abstract prose. No tension because everything is constantly being recapped from a “safe space” just after the event, so you are always aware the narrator is alive/alone/unharmed; therefore, no story has any true danger or stakes. Lots of logistical questions.

The story only gets worse
I guess my issues with Alice Isn’t Dead stem from the story’s resolution with the reintroduction of Alice as a character. I enjoyed the tension between the two leads more than I enjoyed the resolution of their stories. Without spoiling anything, it felt too convenient, unearned, and more fan service than tonally or narratively appropriate.

I am finally getting around to writing a review with being down with all of the seasons for almost a year now. Season 1 was amazing, by far the best season of this show. Season 2 was good, but didn't meet my expectations that I was holding after listening to Season 1. Season 3 was also good, but again these last two seasons didn't blow me away. Overall I still loved the story and the characters, but something was missing from the last two that the first had. I do highly recommend it though!

This honestly creeped me out
I’m not easily scared- at least, horror movies don’t usually scare me. This scared me and I like the narration. Though I am wondering why there was this whole conspiracy with these creatures. Oh well, it’s part of the scare.

Glad that I started it
I am endeared to this podcast and its narrator(s). It’s as though someone really got into the use of language and. I don’t know when it happened - I don’t know when I needed to listen to it -I needed to be back there. I’d jump back in the truck or van with the characters. Great acting. Great use of the English language. This was well meditated over (I’d have to assume).

Poor writing
I just had to stop in the middle of Episode 3. I don’t understand all of the praise for the writing from the other reviews. The writing simply does not represent how anyone in the second half of the 20th or 21st would speak. When is the last time you heard someone in a normal speech pattern say “He indicated the word on his shirt” instead of saying “pointed”? The prose could work even in 1st person narrator if written but presenting it as spontaneous speech is highly disconcerting as it is so unrealistic.

Astounding
“Alice Isn’t Dead” has tight writing and a compelling storyline that will leave you breathless. It’s a tale of love in the face of hate, and hope in a time of fear. With an eerie ambiance that will transport you back to your first nighttime drive, this podcast encapsulates the sheer scope of America’s roads. Also, lesbians.

Super creepy during a road trip
I listened to season 1 as I was driving back from Atlanta during a rainstorm that basically lasted the whole 9 hours. This podcast had me looking over my shoulder at all the big rigs that were passing me. It made that drive so much better and fun. Highly suggest listening while you're driving.

Almost interesting
I listened to 4 episodes - the premise is interesting, and I don’t mind the non-linear narrative. Falls off for the overly dramatic performance, the embarrassing pseudo-philosophical musings of the character and especially the ridiculous chicken crossing riddle at the end of every episode. Y’all that is incredibly corny, not at all clever. I know I can just stop the episode there, but why even add this cheesy element?

An all time favorite I’ll always come back to
I’ve been listening to Alice since it started, and I don’t know why I hadn’t written a review before. It’s a story I keep coming back to, and I find something new to love every time. It’s poetic, meaningful, funny and exciting. I’m not normally big on horror, but they really hit a sweet spot for me. I love everything about how the story unfolds, and no spoilers but the ending is absolutely perfect. It’s a speculative fiction story obviously, but it’s also deeply rooted in the real problems our world is facing. The ultimate message of the story hits home for me in so many ways. Jasika Nikoles performance is phenomenal, you often almost forget she’s pretty much the only voice you hear for much of the show. I could go on for paragraphs here, but suffice it to say this is a strong contender for my top favorite podcast.

Best podcast like, ever
I’ll admit that when I listened to the first episode, I was a bit turned off of the show. It seemed....TOO weird. Out of my league. However I gave it another go and I’m so glad I did. I listened to this show last summer and the feeling of riding my bike with my headphones in being entirely in Keisha’s world was something no other podcast will ever replicate. This show is scary but also incredibly emotional and I’m not afraid to say I cried when it ended. If it’s not summer for you I recommend taking it slow so you can enjoy it the way I did. Also, bless Jasika Nicole for her performance here. I’ll listen to anything with her in it because of this show. Perfect show for the horror fan and for the lover of all things weird✨✨

Really Good
Nicole’s voice is phenomenal! The story telling flips back and forth between past and present; feeling so nonlinear. The story revisits episodes and ideas you may have looked over while listening to; which I think is fun. The plot faces some of the challenges and bigotry of our nation; ideas do manifest themselves in our world. I believe it is important to listen to the whole podcast to understand it; there may be some things you didn’t understand before. The music can be choppy or doesn’t completely fit the scene; the writing can also be a little bit overbearing with the philosophy. Overall, it was really good! And I will definitely listen to it again.

Love it
This is great because the main character acknowledges that her thoughts are unrealistically deep but also something people understand when they’re stuck with themselves and alone a lot and she is just voicing what goes through our heads. As for the plot, I love the action, slight horror, jumble, if you keep listening to each episode these random breaks in story between the past to the present all come together and give you important background and makes it unique and familiar.well researched including real events from the world in her travels. Of course it’s not all realistic, it’s not meant to be, of course it doesn’t make sense the character that we meet is so physically strong and mentally strong and all of that but not everyone is perfect and this acknowledges that. It’s a mix of reality and fantasy and bringing together the darkness of our current world with metaphorical people and events. Love it.

Better than welcome to nightvale
I love this show in every single way. It has all of the unsettling and odd things that nightvale does all put into a solid plot line. It is easy to focus on and understand, and has little Easter eggs of real events. It is very accurate with locations, and no detail is missed. I will be looking forward to future episodes.

Lyrical, Ominous, and a Real Pleasure
Wonderfully acted and masterfully written, fans of dark thrillers (not just Night Vale) should enjoy this thoroughly. Skillfully mixes supernatural evil with rich charachters and a big, resonant American sense of place. After the first few chapters I elected not to stick around for each episode's metaphysical take on "why did the chicken cross the road" following the closing ad reads. They took me out of the story a bit; others may like them plenty. Either way, listen to Alice Isn't Dead!

After four episodes, I decided I’d have much more listening pleasure by ramming a ballpoint pen into my ear drums. Charming & Creepy
I just finished and I have to say - wow. I have a hard time listening to podcasts; NIGHT VALE itself has been the only previous one to keep my attention. I was drawn in by how the stories in each episode jumped around and I had to pay attention. The narrator’s young voice intrigued me; in the end, it really adds to the timeless quality, and Jasika and Joseph together can tell a darn good story. I also really liked the ambient music and the times where it would continue, giving me time to process what I just heard. Can’t wait to read the book!

Creepy, lonely road
Alice Isn't Dead captures the feeling of a creepy, lonely road right at dusk. Our protagonist is a seemingly normal woman whose life is turned on its head when she discovers that her dead wife, Alice, isn't dead. She, as a truck driver, seeks to find Alice and discover answers to her many questions. Along the way she uncovers some unusual things. The atmosphere is eerie and tale is entertaining. Update: The show has ended and never lost it's appeal. Truly something to be proud of.

I only listen to this when my favorite podcasts are on a break or in between episodes of better podcasts that only drop once a week. It’s basically a story comprised of inner thoughts of someone with a life a bit more interesting than any random person you meet but has no one to talk to. As a result, it can occasionally be really interesting. It can also be as annoying as my review. Listen or don’t, the choice is honestly the same.

I listen to a LOT of podcasts, and have done so for a long time. Like a lot of people, I started with Nightvale and then found Alice through that. Alice Isn’t Dead is not just a great podcast, it’s a beautiful, scary, hopeful story. It is incredibly well thought out and executed. The medium of podcasts creates a closeness between the speaker and the listener and the writers and voice actors absolutely use that to their advantage to make all the characters feel so real that you can almost imagine being in the front seat with them. It’s so good.

Used to be great, now just good
First two seasons were amazing. Season 3 is still good, but I’m personally a bit disappointed with the plot. I don’t want to elaborate for spoilers sake, but I like fiction for escapism. Art is often times the best way to protest things, and I respect that. I just wanted some nuanced story telling that didn’t have to be a contemporary allegory. Character progression is great though.

Mostly great, and worth listening to
I'm up to Part 2, Chapter 8. If you like podcasts with a Twin Peaks/Wayward Pines kind of vibe, this is for you. A really great story that draws you in from episode to episode. The voice acting by Jasika Nicole (fans of the TV show Fringe will remember her as Astrid) is top notch, and the first season is excellent. The second season is more of a mixed bag. They bring in another actor, Roberta Colindrez, who is just miscast here. While Jasika sounds like she's part of that world and draws the listener into it with her, Roberta sounds very much like she's a recent theater program grad trying really really hard to sound like a Serious Dramatic Actress. The difference between the two becomes even more glaring during a part when Jasika performs the lines for Roberta's character. There might be the right roll for Roberta out there, but she's out of her depth here. And you'd think this far into the podcast they'd figure out how to balance the audio so the main story isn't so much quieter than the intro and outro. On the whole, though, definitely worth a listen if you're looking for a rich, engaging, creepy story. Great music, too.

Part 3, Chapter 4 - Masterpiece
Being a long time Night Vale fan, I was in on AiD from the moment it was announced. I've loved every episode, but Part 3, Chapter 4 just hit me in a way that I would have never predicted. As the series winds down, you figure you know what the show is and what its capacity is for eliciting emotion. This episode, for whatever reason!, just upended that assumption for me. Every scene was there in my head, every emotion, to the point that I found myself spinning each thing off into another story entirely - I was literally sitting here creating stories inspired by what I was hearing. Really can't remember the last time that happened with a podcast, if its ever happened to me before. Beyond that, just the separate-but-connected experiences of the characters in this episode felt so real and were so present in my head - it's honestly the best ghost story I've ever heard. I'm gonna miss this series when it ends, but man I'll never forget this episode.

The story is fantastic! But one of the most important thing about a podcast is mixing it properly. I am listening to this with headphones and each time the story starts I have to up the volume. Joseph fink at his finest and most focused
This podcast is one of my favorites and it is easily the best narrative/radio play style programs available. I tried to listen to welcome to Night Vale and found it to just be a complete waste of my time (sorry Joseph) of meandering, ineffective dry humor with subpar jokes and clumsy pace. It was a great surprise then that ALICE ISN'T DEAD is expertly written with intriguing pace. The narration is beautifully performed, rife with wonderful, witty insights, a creepy storyline that isn’t all gimmick but has a ton of heart and Intellect as well as so much vivid americana imagery that feels like Stephen King collaborated with Norman Rockwell. The narrative voice is contemplative, honest, emotional and sardonically hilarious. The storyline is well spun and full of surprises that rewards repeat listens! I recommend this to everyone I talk to about podcasts or storytelling. Thank you for everyone on the AID team!

Gay, spooky roadtrip
With a theme song that starts out sounding like the Left 4 Dead intro music, I’m swept away into a nightmare land of self reflection, horrors beyond understanding, and breathtaking voice acting. I started listening to this podcast because the premise was “lady truck driving around the country looking for her wife.” A woman talking into her radio? How interesting can that be? Ooooooh boy, was I shaken. The audio quality was great, so I started listening to it at work, but the chills it left me when I drove home! The writing is fantastic! It became so much more than a lady looking for her wife! Kesha bravely searched, her words of the world she drove around in, overcoming so much that made me cheer out loud or fight tears. (Which, in afterthought, was probably not a good idea in the work place. Good thing I work in a “box” of a fuel station, huh?) Simply cannot wait for season three. -Shido

Miss You, Chanterelle
Alice Isn’t Dead was the first Night Vale Presents podcast I listened to that wasn’t Welcome to Night Vale. I was intrigued. Having the same person who voices Dana Cardinal in WTNV narrate the podcast was a little difficult at first simply because I imagined Dana driving a semi looking for her wife Alice, but eventually I was able to separate them into distinct characters. Jasika Nicole is a great narrator, and uses what I think is appropriate inflection most of the time. Joseph Fink’s writing is on point as always: he creates characters that come to life, sometimes in the worst ways possible. I often end up immersed in the podcast, imagining myself driving the long roads in the truck, or as Alice listening to my wife’s unfortunate adventures... but sometimes I’m just me, following the story. I have to be in a certain mood to listen to Alice Isn’t Dead—it is definitely horror, and certain descriptions and scenes have a way of getting under my skin and making me feel uncomfortable, watched, or like there’s something in my stomach that is suddenly restless—but when I am in the right mind to listen, AID is everything I want it to be and more.

Love it. Even though I sometimes find myself terrified of it, the humor in this series helps. I also love the riddles at the end, they either make me laugh or feel somewhat empty inside, like I can’t breath or comprehend whatever has just been said. Just a lovely podcast that I would definitely sell my soul to.

The first episode was like some horrible stream of conscious writing experiment from a psych patient. Intentional vaugeries, non sequiters, and playing the pronoun game abounds in this episode. It may be perfect for someone else, but I found it agitated me.

incredible
This is one of the best- if not THE best- podcasts I’ve listened to. I was hooked on the first ep...the overarching plot/mystery is genius and incredibly entertaining. The horror is just enough to feel slightly off put but nothing actually terrifying. The trucker is one of the best characters I’ve experienced- Jasika is a talented voice actor, to put it lightly. Also. It’s very nice and refreshing to have lesbian main character. I cant wait for part 3 ❤️❤️❤️

I love the story and the acting!
I love Jasika Nicole’s soft voice. I think it’s fantastic. SHE’S fantastic! What a great actress. I saw her perform live at the PodCon show and I was moved. Hadn’t heard of this show before but knew I had to check it out. I was a big fan of Welcome to Night Vale a few years ago but stopped listening. Going to PodCon made me want to check out Night Vale Presents and their new shows. (Well, not “new” but new since I last listened to Welcome to Night Vale.) I love Alice Isn’t Dead so far. As a queer woman, it’s great to see a queer relationship portrayed without it enveloping the entire plot. (Queer people are just people! The whole story doesn’t need to be about their romance/relationship.) I love this thrilling mystery. It’s a little spookier than Welcome to Night Vale in my opinion so just FYI. I love listening to this show in the car but sometimes when it’s dark, I get spooked haha. But, I love this show and you should give it a try! I can’t wait to see how the mystery unfolds.

This is awesome
There's something about long road trips that create a certain atmosphere, and Alice Isn't Dead captures that atmosphere perfectly. From quests for lost loves to large-scale conspiracies to zombie-like creatures, Alice Isn't Dead has it all. (And this is coming from someone who specifically avoids anything that remotely involves zombies, so you know that this has to be amazing for me to love it so much). The interactions between the women on the show (because almost all of the important characters are women) are so rich and well-written.

Season 1
Season one of Alice isn't Dead was phenomenal! The second episode had me on the edge of my seat and legitimately frightened. Season 2 is terrible. The podcast began trying way too hard even with the end joke. The "riddles" at the end of each season one episode were witty and intriguing but the knock-knock jokes made me cringe. The adding of these stupid dark characters like the second voice in the "bad water" episode was too much. The podcast couldn't figure out what it wanted to be and for that 2 stars and an unsubscribe.

I love this podcast! I’ve seen some people understandably compare this podcast to WTNV. I do think that the creepiness/weirdness of both shows’ style is similar, but I won’t fault it for that. Alice gives the audience a more in depth mystery to solve on the main character’s journey to find her wife. Whereas WTNV (for the most part) is largely an episodic series, which might not always be for everyone. Alice doesn’t draw things out in a way that makes me lose interest and I’m really looking forward to how the story plays out.

Fun and intriguing
The narrator is brilliant. She is definitely the reason I've kept up with the podcast. Jasika has a magical tone to her voice and her delivery is so enchanting. I've had a hard time getting into the Night Vale podcasts before because I become too focused on the way the story's prose is being read aloud --Jasika makes it all seem so natural, as if it really is an authentic stream of consciousness. I'd like to give it five stars but I can't get past the chicken riddle at the end. The story stands well enough on its own without out it. I'd prefer to reflect on what I've just heard rather and come up with my own interpretation rather than be forced to absorb Fink's conclusion. I found it tiresome and out of place after a couple episodes.

LOVE!
This is an engaging, well-written, and addictive fantastical serialized story that holds a mirror up to the real world. The characters are complex and well-developed. And I SO appreciate the way queer characters in this story are simply people, who happen to be queer. Their queerness is not a tragedy or the source of ongoing tension/conflict. We need more stories like this in the world!

I am in LOVE with this podcast. As a queer listener it is so amazing to finally have representation in genre stories. I love that it's a creepy thriller with a main character that is also queer. This is what we need. We need horror, scifi, etc where we are represented. It provides another layer of connection to the story when I can see myself in the main character. Thank you Joseph Fink! Amazing and Terrifying
Let me start by saying, this is a podcast you want to listen to on a roadtrip. Granted, there are moments when that's the worst possible thing ever (the narrator is typically driving an 18-wheeler, and sometimes there's a horn honking, or squealing tires, that can really freak you out in real life, especially if your attention has wandered), but overall it is the most perfect way to eat up the road. The story is completely intriguing; it starts with shock and horror and monstrosity, and unfolds into mystery and love and longing and beauty and reflection. I was completely unprepared for this - I'd pretty much avoided the trailers and everything, but wanted to give it a shot because I love Welcome to Night Vale. It was so worth the wait. The storytelling is amazing; a recurring motif is that America is a country of distance, and the plot unravels that distance for you, stretching you out across the story and the narrator's life. Some reviewers have complained that the narrator doesn't sound like a 'truck driver;' listen to the story and you realize that's exactly the point. She isn't what you'd expect, because she's embarked on a completely unexpected journey out of necessity and desperation. And along the way toward finding who she's lost, she finds herself, as well as a completely unexpected reality overlaid atop our own. I really dig urban fantasy where there's a hidden-just-to-the-left supernatural world hiding behind our own.

Podcasts aren't dead
Here's something a bit different from NightVale Presents. Alice Isn't Dead is a story that really focuses on the narrator's story and the point of view. It has the same eerie element as its predecessor however it is a stand alone. Alice Isn't Dead has various audio effects really pulls me into the story and the cast is what I'm looking for. If you came here looking for a similar style to NightVale you may be disappointed.

Best Roadtrip Ever
I love this podcast! I've been a big fan of Welcome to Night Vale for a little over five years now, and Alice Isn't Dead shares the same wonderful writing and worldbuilding in its storyline. What I love about this story is that even though there's so much existentialist horror happening within every episode, I feel at it's heart that this is a very human podcast. The narrator's emotions and insights are so genuine, I feel as if I really am going on this roadtrip with her. Can't wait for the next season!

Different than NightVale but Great.
It is a more of a slow burn than NightVale, but the search for Alice and the road trip across an uncanny America unfold into a drama that, because of it's wistful weirdness, I actually enjoy slightly more. It is a more singularly focused narrative, but it gives listeners glimpses of an America viewed through the windows of a vehicle on state highways, a half hour at a rest stop in the middle of nowheresville USA, and a stop across all the places that blur together in your mind during a trip across the country. It hints at the hidden world I always suspected was out there in the road trips of my youth. It doesn't treat everything with the same offhanded whimsical charm as Welcome to Nightvale. It is more intense, more serious. But if you are interested in a well voice-acted, cross-country, drama podcast, with a little weirdness, or if you did or do travel the highways of America and need something to listen to, I would heartily recommend this series.

The storyline is interesting, but the acting could use some work. I'm not a huge fan of the main character so far, but we'll see how she evolves throughout the story.

Exploration of Americas Liminal Spaces
The writing is definitely Fink's and that can be a little distracting, but the voice acting was delightful in my opinion, and though it takes the main character a while to get her personality legs under her, I found her really engaging. It starts off feeling like it's taking place in the same world as NV, but then gets grounded kind of horrifyingly in our own reality and becomes a beast of it's own. Some of these reviews are too harsh and didn't give the show a chance to grow. I love it

Alice Isn't Dead is intoxicating. A lot of unsettling ambience tempered with a dystopian Americana and riveting storyline. I love following along and hope I don't dream about the Thistle Man tonight!

Darker than nightvale, just as excellent.
Really amazing. It's almost a blend my my two favorite podcasts, which are WTNV and black tapes. I recommend to everyone who wants to be creeped out, likes mysteries, and wants to relate to something so much that it feels almost disturbing. Disturbing because it's about bizarre and weird monsters. Each episode continues with the underlying mystery plot of searching for Alice and then, unraveling a conspiracy, while having a random singular mystery in most episodes on top of it. Like if x files and the twilight zone had a baby. Really, it's that good.

On the Road meets Twin Peaks
"Alice" sounds like what you would get if Kerouac took a wrong turn at the Salton Sea and ended up on the road to Night Vale. Fink is fascinated with the creepy absurdity of roadside Americana, and with chronicling the evidence - decaying strip malls, scowling townies - of a country and culture in decline. The cultural commentary and horror-lite is what gets me on board the Bay & Creek truck; what keeps me there is Jasika Nicole's sublime reading of Keisha.

Amazing
This is such a strange and beautiful story. Nothing like it. Narrator is relatable and makes the more out there aspects of the story become grounded. The narrator has the most soothing voice. I have bad anxiety but listening to Keisha (her character) has kept me from many panic attacks.

Creepy and Compelling
Alice Isn't Dead is in the same vein as the other Night Vale Presents podcasts, but it's slightly darker and more complex. It's like reading a crime thriller, and I listened to each episode wondering where Alice was and just what was going on. It ended on such a cliff-hanger, and I can't wait for Part Two to come out. Recommended for fans of Night Vale and creepy crime thrillers. *Update: Part Two is shaping out to be mysterious and engaging. I find myself enjoying it even more than Welcome to Night Vale each week.

Really annoying voice. Also has dumb leftist commentary all over the place (how can a font be racist????????). Once the annoying voice started randomly talking trash about Texas I tuned out. Next time please include a trigger warning for this.

Delightfully Weird, Creepy, Dreamlike
The narration and mood this podcast story provides are gripping and strange. Which is exactly how you should feel in this world. The narration is very well done and narrator does a great job of punctuating dialog for the scene. I love the imagery in the dialogue too, especially some of the more dreamlike scenes. This all on top of a very intriguing story line. I didn't listen to Welcome to Nightvale but I probably will now if it's anything like this one. Thanks!

Terrifying and Interesting.
Easily Night Vale Present's best work. While it lacks the sense of humor of Welcome to Night Vale, it offers an exploration of the unique, stange, and somewhat unnerving aspects of America.

Ehh.
I've listened to all episodes out so far. (Up until season 2 episode 4) I've given it a chance homing it will escalate and become interesting and it just hasn't. It's incredibly boring. After listening to Limetown and loving it I was recommended Alice isn't Dead, but it has been a let down. I love the narrators voice but it's just too dead for me (no pun intended lol). I wish there was more than one voice. And I've been waiting for (spoiler alert) a lead towards Alice but no. Despite the title and the often occurrence of her name, there is no story about where Alice is and why she left, what she's doing, etc. which is what people want. I want to know where Alice is and what this whole mystery is about but instead I hear Keisha ramble about life and anxiety and jobs...?

Addicting!!!
I am not normally a fan of the horror genre but Nightvale makes amazing shows. Alice Isn't Dead has become my new favorite story and Part 2 is shaping up to be better than ever. Jasika Nicole's voice is addicting and layers innocence with strength in a way that's almost mesmerizing. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing your weird, quirky, beautiful art with the world! Xoxo

Beautiful, Riveting, Insightful
This story gives off that sketchy found tapes feel, as if the listen might have found these recordings from Keisha. Giving the listener a window to this strange love story, as loss and death is pondered. The narrator, Keisha is lovable, insightful, and remarkably brave. Every moment causes the listener to ponder their own place in the world, how loss is more of a new home rather than a feeling. I highly recommend this podcast for those who love a good mystery, and a hint of strange. I definitely will be listening more than once!

It's Night Vale But Scarier
I am a huge fan of Welcome To Night Vale. In fact, my iPad is lagging because I'm downloading over 15 episodes of Night Vale right now! And I didn't really expect Alice Isn't Dead to be different. But it is. I've read some reviews of people saying they were disappointed because it was so similar to Night Vale but that doesn't disappoint me. Yes, it's creepy like Night Vale but I like that. It's a different sort of podcast, though. Night Vale is funny. Alice Isn't Dead is scary. Don't-make-the-mistake-I-did-by-watching-it-at-night-in-the-dark scary. It's samey but differenty. I definitely recommend it. And now I need to stop typing and finish downloading these episodes. Laaaaaag!!

My Favorite of Night Vale Presents podcasts
Unique format, compelling plot, wholesome introspection and that special Night Vale-esque brand of existential weirdness. I don’t know what more to ask for, other than to wish that this sort of thing was a bigger genre. And kudos to the writers for portraying a queer female as an actual person instead of using her as fetish material. What a concept!

Perfection!!
As a huge fan of Welcome to Night Vale (which also stars Jasika Nicole) and listen to all of their podcasts. Alice Isn't Dead is definitely in my top all time favorites. I really like Keisha, and her travels, and I love the different things she's seen and places she's been. I love the people she's met and as I listened to this podcast, I immediately felt like it should be made into a tv show. It's that good and it'd be amazing to see visually! So, I'd definitely recommend this podcast - particularly for anyone who doesn't know night vale - if you like f/f SFF stories that feature supernatural creatures and unusual places and mysteries worth solving!! Alice Isn't Dead is Pure Perfection!

More poetical, creepy narrative.
For Night Vale fans and people who will become fans. After one season, it's clear that Alice Isn't Dead is giving Fink more room lyrically and narratively than Night Vale. Nikole's voice work is outstanding.

Takes lessons from WTNV and expands upon them.
This show has a lot of the charm and terror that the creators main show, Welcome to Night Vale, are famous for. But it's more compact arcs and (in my opinion, anyway.) more grounded setting and plot make it a thrilling listen. It puts almost all other story podcasts to shame.

How does this have such high ratings?
The thing to keep in mind about negative reviews is that people don't normally write them because they WANT to hate whatever it is they're reviewing so poorly. I really wanted to like this podcast, I really did. I tried very hard, but it's just so bad. I started off deciding to listen to 3 episodes before I stopped so I could draw a rounded conclusion about it, but by the time I finished episode 3 I was just furious and needed to make sure I really understood why I didn't like it so much. I listened to all 10 episodes of Part 1 because I wanted to figure out what I hated about it. What I've figured out is a few things: The actress who stars in it is really not for me. I don't believe I enjoyed anything she did the whole way through. She just isn't very good for my taste, and I'm shocked they picked her to lead this thing because she really doesn't have chops. The thing is though, it really isn't 100% her fault because the writing is just dreadful. It's so pretentious. The guy who wrote it really comes off as desperate to sound poetic that it just destroys anything positive in the plot. You can really see this in his truly terrible "Why did the chicken cross the road" gag he does in every episode. (Spoiler, the reason is always a long unrelated poem about nothing even remotely interesting.) Every situation has to be very poorly described as inefficently as possible using the worst metaphors you can think of. It takes forever for anything to happen. There are some good concepts in here. I think the idea of the story being told over a radio while this woman spins around the country looking for her supposedly dead wife is a pretty great premise. (Although the idea of her knowing that her wife is still alive because she saw her on the news all over the place is pretty weak) I think the mystery of who the Thistle man is could be pretty cool for the most part, and there's a fantastic concept that feels very "Black Mirror" in the middle of the season about a factory she arrives to while making a delivery. The problem is that the only good thing in this show, which is the factory epsiode, makes ZERO sense in the context of the world they've built. It's like they had a good idea, didn't know what to do with it and just crammed it into the middle of this weird story to never be mentioned again. Why do that? The whole show is like this though. Just weird concepts and phrases apropos of nothing except to try and sound "deep," all squished together with awful sound design. It seems like the writer really should have just made a Tumblr page for his poetry or something instead of trying to make it into a 10 episode story, (although clearly this worked out for him because at least a third of every episode is just advertising.) Speaking of the sound design: it's painful. The music is good, but it destracted from everything because A) The songs were better than anything the actress was saying,B) it was mixed like garbage so it was louder than it ever should have been and B) it was obviously there because they weren't willing to work in any actual sound design. They started the beginning of the show with some sound effects and stuff to emphasize what was going on, but more or less abandoned it later except for some truck sounds. Also, this whole story is being told in the PAST tense. That completely ruins the tension at the end of the show. She talks about this big crazy event in the last episode which may be interesting, but because she's saying it like it already happened, you just get don't care because you know she survives. I mean how else would she be melodramatically rattling into a microphone? In the end, I didn't like it at all. I really wish it could have been better, but it was too pretentious and half assed to be any good. Go check out Homecoming, it's a million times better.

- From the creator of Alice Isn't Dead: UnlicensedFrom Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, creators of the genre defining fiction podcasts Welcome to Night Vale and Alice Isn’t Dead, comes the new LA noire Unlicensed, starring Molly Quinn, Lusia Strus, and T.L Thompson. Coming November 10, only to Audible. Subscribe now here: https://www.audible.com/Unlicensed Unlicensed follows Molly Hatch (Quinn), recently divorced, two years sober, and completely lost on where to go next in her life. On a whim she answers an ad for an assistant to a PI, traveling to an unpromising strip mall on Citrus Avenue in Azusa, CA, where she meets Lou Rosen (Strus). Lou is a brilliant detective, but she’s also a completely disorganized mess, both in her physical space and within her own mind. She loses evidence, forgets what she’s already figured out, and she hasn’t even gotten it together to get her PI license. Working illegally in the outskirts of Los Angeles, where the cul-de-sacs and strip malls sprawl into the desert, the only clients she can get are those who either can't afford anyone else or have cases that are too marginal for licensed PIs or the police to bother with. When a teenage girl pleads for Lou and Molly to take the strangest case of their career, they find themselves involved in something much bigger than they were prepared for. This unlikely pair, with no resources and no back-up, follow a trail of seemingly unconnected cases, which leads them to a ransom, a murder, a mysterious wellness center, and a conspiracy that might go all the way to the governor. Featuring guest appearances by Jason Segel, Janet Varney, James Urbaniak, Cecil Baldwin, Jasika Nicole, Mara Wilson, and more, Unlicensed is a deeply-human, captivating thriller set in the most uncool neighborhoods of America’s coolest city.0 comments0
