How To Grow Your Podcast (+ Tips For Success)

To help you get started, at Podvine, we’ve put together this list of podcast tips and tricks for growing your podcast using Podvine's platform. Don't worry if you're new to podcasting—all the tips we're covering today are extremely simple. Plus, they're all completely free!

So, without further ado, let's get started!

Get Featured

Many podcast hosting platforms and directories publish weekly (or monthly) lists of featured shows and editors picks. If you haven't seen an example before, they're a bit like those curated Spotify or Apple Music playlists that show up on your homepage.

The editorial team at Podvine is always looking for new and exciting podcasts to feature on our homepage. Each week, we choose podcasts to feature on the homepages of our app and website. Podcasts that get selected are given a place of honor—they're the first thing users see when they open Podvine!

To be in with the chance of getting featured, all you need to do is:

  1. Claim Your Show: To claim a show that's already hosted on Podvine, simply search for it via the search bar and click the “Request Claim Code” button. You’ll receive the code via the email associated with your RSS feed. Click on the “Enter Claim Code” button. Alternatively, to claim an unhosted show, you can add by following this link.

  2. Backlink To Podvine: Next, you'll need to add a “Listen on Podvine” button to your website. You can do this by following this guide.

  3. Get Followers: Once the button is added, you'll need to start spreading the word about your podcast. To be featured on Podvine, you only need 10 subscribers!

  4. Contact Customer Service: Once you've met all the requirements above, all you need to do is reach out to Podvine's customer support team. We'll take care of the rest!

Share your personal link

If you have a Podvine profile, then you’ll also have a personal link unique to your podcast. You can find yours on the app by tapping the settings button in the top right corner of your page and choosing “Share Profile Link”.

By sharing this link, you can let your friends, family, and followers know where they can find you. This helps to build your personal follower base within the app and creates that initial buzz around your content.

While there isn't a hard-and-fast rule about which (and how many) social media platforms you need to use, common sense dictates that more is better. The more channels you have available for interacting with your audience, the more growth potential your show has.

At the bare minimum, we recommend creating podcast accounts with:

  • Facebook

  • Twitter

  • Instagram

These are definitely the “big three” when it comes to podcast engagement.

Get chatting

Commenting is a great way to generate genuine engagement and to grow your listeners organically. Unfortunately, there aren't many podcast platforms that allow listeners and creators to have conversations… except for Podvine!

Starting a conversation in your comments section allows you to build an active community around your content. You can ask your listeners a question, tag your subscribers, and even ask for feedback. Once you’ve got replies, you can continue the dialogue and start to build deeper connections with your audience.

It’s also a great idea to share the love and comment on others’ podcasts, perhaps highlighting a favorite moment or offering advice.

Get Karma

Podvine is a community, and we love to reward users who interact with each other! When you connect with others on the platform (through subscribing, commenting, tagging, etc.), you will earn Karma which will be visible for you at the top of your profile.

The more karma you have, the more influence your upvotes have!

Create Cover Art

Cover art is a big deal in the podcasting medium. That's why we wrote a whole blog post on the subject!

Strong cover art helps your podcast to stand out to potential listeners and makes you instantly recognizable to dedicated followers. In addition, it helps give your show a little more credibility and look more professional—great for turning potential listeners into subscribers. Here’s an example from the Jordan Harbinger Show, featured on our platform:

Post To Other Directories

In addition to Podvine's directory, you also have the option to post your podcast to nine other directories, including:

  • Google Podcasts

  • Spotify

  • Apple Podcasts

  • Audible

  • Deezer

  • Castbox

  • Player FM

  • Radio Public

  • Pocket Casts

Each of these services represents an additional opportunity to be discovered, grow your audience, and expand the scope of your show. In our opinion, the more, the merrier!

Cross Promote With Other Podcasters

One of the great things about podcasting is that it's a very collaborative medium. There's no need to be competitive or secretive; instead, try reaching out to other podcasters and see if they're interested in cross-promoting.

There are a few different ways you can go about this:

Guest Spots

Have another podcaster come on your show as a guest, or vice versa. This is a great way to introduce new listeners to each other's content and to generate some buzz.

Now, how to find podcast guests? To easily find guests, have a look through Podvine's podcast guest list. You can either post your show and wait for potential guests to reach out, or look through listings for the perfect fit!

Shared Episodes

Collaborate on an episode together, then post it on both of your channels. This is a great way to get extra exposure and to show off your skills.

To find shows that might be a perfect match, search through Podvine's directory using a category filter. You'll be able to find tons of shows within your niche along with contact info so you can reach out!

Use Social Media Ads

Podcasts are still a relatively new medium, so there currently isn't much competition for ad space. This means that you can often get great deals on social media advertising and that your ad will be seen by a large number of people.

Try targeting users who have recently listened to or downloaded similar content to what you produce. This ensures that you're reaching interested listeners who are likely to enjoy your show.

Check Your Analytics

Capping things off, it's important to keep an eye on your podcast analytics. This will give you insights into who is listening to your show, who is downloading your show, where they're located, and what content they're most interested in.

This data can help you to tweak your content strategy, make better decisions about guest appearances, and even track the success of marketing campaigns.

Podvine offers comprehensive podcast analytics that are easy to understand and infinitely customizable. Make sure to check them out!

Wrapping Up

Podcasting is a new medium, and as such there are many opportunities for success. When you're starting out in the world of podcasting, it can be difficult to know how to start a podcast and how to grow your podcast audience.

If any of these ideas sound helpful, take some time now to apply them on your own platform before they become too popular—then just sit back while listeners flock towards you! And if you need any extra advice along with all of this information, don't forget that Podvine is always here to help!
