- The Stack Overflow Podcast Mar 22 · 26m Moving up a level of abstraction with serverless on MongoDB Atlas and AWSThe history of computing has been a story of moving up levels of abstraction: from hard-coding algorithms and directly manipulating memory addresses with assembly languages to using more natural language constructs in high-level general purpose languages to abstracting the hardware of the computer in cloud compute. Now serverless functions take that abstraction even further. We’ve made the algorithms that process data simple and natural; MongoDB wants to do the same for how we persist data. On this sponsored episode of the podcast, we chat with Andrew Davidson, SVP Products at MongoDB, about how they’re turning a database into a fully-managed service that developers can use in a more natural way. Along the way, we discuss how the cost bottleneck has moved from the storage media to developers’ minds, how greater abstractions can enable developers, and how to get insights from production data faster. Episode notes Try MongoDB Atlas on AWS for free. You can get started with MongoDB Atlas directly from the AWS Marketplace. If you’re at a startup, you can take advantage of their special offer for startups. The community edition of their classic database is available to download as well. If you’re looking to learn a thing or two before diving in, check out MongoDB University. - Ten Percent Happier with Dan Harris Mar 22 · 1h 5m 574: Do You Feel Like an Imposter? | Dr. Valerie Young (Co-Interviewed by Dan’s Wife, Bianca!)The phrase imposter syndrome has increasingly crept into the culture. If you haven’t heard of it, it basically means that you feel like you’re a fraud, despite evidence to the contrary. As this term has gained more purchase in our culture, it’s also been subjected to an increasing amount of scrutiny and criticism, and also confusion. So, today we’re going to try to cut through some of that with Dr. Valerie Young, who’s been an internationally recognized expert on imposter syndrome since 1982. Young is the co-founder of the Imposter Syndrome Institute. She wrote a book called, The Secret Thoughts of Successful Women: Why Capable People Suffer from the Impostor Syndrome and How to Thrive in Spite of It . As you’ll hear her explain, imposter syndrome is not just for women — men deal with it, too, as do many other people along the gender spectrum. This is the second installment of our ongoing work/life series. In this episode we talk about: The three things that define impostor syndrome Dr. Young’s contention that imposter syndrome impacts both men and women, but tends to hold women back more What it means to shift from impostor thinking to thinking like “a humble realist” Why we need to learn to reframe competence Whether or not impostor syndrome is limited to the professional sphere The impact of identity/social group Three tools for dealing with imposter feelings Whether or not imposter feelings ever go away What to do if you’re in a relationship with someone with imposter syndrome And whether there are any upsides to imposter syndrome Full Shownotes: https://www.tenpercent.com/podcast-episode/valerie-young-5741 comments1

- The Expat Money Show - With Mikkel Thorup Mar 22 · 31m 235: Panama Conference & Birthday Party RecapIn today’s episode of The Expat Money Show, I am going to recap the last incredible week in Panama, beginning with a hugely informative conference for private clients and culminating in my 40th birthday party. Really the last week has been truly unbelievable. We had clients fly in from every corner of the world, literally from everywhere. I am still decompressing from a busy and eventful week, but I wanted to first stop and take the time to record this episode for you and update you all on some other goings on here at Expat Money while everything is fresh on my mind. PANAMA CONFERENCE AND BIRTHDAY PARTY RECAP I recap the start of the week with the investor's conference I put on in Panama with private clients from diverse places like Germany, Thailand and New Zealand attending. I explain the difference between my "private" clients and my "regular" clients and how you can become one! This week highlights why I like to get to know my prospective clients personally before I take them on - because I spend a LOT of time with them! The type of information provided at this conference would literally take months or even years of research to acquire on your own - offshore investing and residency is definitely not a 'DIY' type of thing. Meanwhile, we also formally launched The Expats Guide on Moving to Mexico, which has already launched to #1 in the "libertarianism" category on Amazon! I also provide a preview of the upcoming trips I am planning in the next year for private clients. If these sounds interesting to you, read this important letter and consider if becoming a private is a good fit for you. Finally, I reflect on my 40th birthday party that was made so special by the 150 + attendees who travelled from places like Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, the UK, Brazil, Colombia, Canada, USA, etc. - all culminating in an amazing fireworks display! Ultimately, these events are about building a community and realizing that we aren't the crazy ones out there. We in the Expat Money community are building a better and brighter future for ourselves while much of the world goes mad.
